Apt-x support

Does xperia Z1 Compact support apt-x codec for bluetooth?
I can't find anything on this subjet. Sony does not mention it in Z1 Compact specs sheet (unlike for the Z1 ultra), but a page dedicated to Z1 compact exist on the official apt-x website.
I would appreciate if someone could enlighten me on this subject.

  • Apt-x Support for Bluetooth A2DP?

    Hi,
are there any plans to support the apt-X codec for the Bluetooth A2DP Profile? Maybe that could solve some of the bad A2DP audio qualitiy issues, that are still expierienced by some users (including me) on all the available phones (tested Pre- with 1.4.5, Pre+ with 1.4.5 and 2.1, Pixi Plus with 1.4.5, Pre2 with 2.0 and 2.1, all gave the same issues with different headsets and receivers!).
apt-X seems to be coming quite fast, not only because apple has built in support for it in it's latest products, but also because it offers CD level quality on low encoding cost, which is MUCH more than the poor SBC codec can deliver.
I hope HP with it's Beat audio line of products will consider adding such enhanced A2DP codecs to the mobile devices... wireless headsets are so much more convinient than anything wired can be. But at the momen A2DP sound quality is unbearable with my Palm handsets and I still have no clue where that issue arises from (my last guess is, that it's connected to me being an european costumer and we are few compared to the majority of the us costumers. As far as I understood there are differences in the radio part of the handsets between EU and US devices, so maybe those differences break A2DP Bluetooth quality).

Thanks for all of the replies. I also saw in the Z white paper that the apt-X codec is not listed, so the question becomes "can apt-X be pushed via a software update?"
For those interested in streaming to your home stereo or powered speaker, here's what I ended up doing.
Purchased a Rocketfish Bluetooth Music Receiver from Best Buy (in the US). It is a pretty slick lttle device, about the same size as the power plug adaptor and it supports A2DP and apt-X. There are two audio outputs: analog via a headphone jack and optical. And it ships with a 6' 3.5mm stereo audio cable and a  RCA adaptor.
Setup was easy. Connect the audio to the stereo's AUX inputs, set the stereo's source to AUX, plug in the BT receiver power, turn on the tablet Bluetooth on the tablet and play music.
At first the sound was pretty compressed from MP3's, Pandora and the Google Play service. The fix was to go into the Google Play app > settings > equalizer. Click on "surround sound" and change the setting from "headphone" to "studio".Then play with the equalizer settings to tweak. Results in much improved audio.
Happy camper now... music streaming through the house and no wires!

  • Does SRS-X77 support apt-X bluetooth codec?

Hi, i am looking to buy a wireless speaker and the Sony line of speakers looks awesome. I am however confused by different specification listings for SRS-X77, i am unsure if it supports the apt-X codec.
This site says it does: https://blog.sony.com/press/29677/
This site says it doesn't: http://store.sony.com/powerful-portable-wi-fi-bluetooth-speaker-zid27-SRSX77/cat-27-catid-All-Player...
Can i get a definitive response on apt-X support? And LDAC for that matter as both sites also differ on LDAC support.

    it doesn't seems it does

    but do contact Sony directly.

  • Does the latest Macbook Pro support Apt-X bluetooth for hi-fi audio?

    Hi
I have read that the latest Mac Mini supports Apt-X Bluetooth for high quality audio transfer, and that Apple is introducing this technology as standard in its products, but am wondering if the mid 2010 Macbook Pro also supports this?
If not does anyone have experience using either the Creative or Sennheiser USB dongles with the Macbook Pro? I am hoping to use the QED LIVE uPLAY receiver which supports Apt-X with the Macbook Pro, and would be interested to hear about other people's experience of this device or similar devices.
    Thanks
    Nick

If you check out the teardowns on ifixit.com, it would seem that the Macbook, Macbook Pro and Mac Mini all use the same Bluetooth + 802.11n part from Broadcom: BCM943224PCIEBT.
I'd imagine that if the hardware and software are the same that bluetooth support of these 3 machines should also be the same. However, I can't find any evidence for or against this. Perhaps people with these machines could test it out. Better yet, perhaps makers of apt-x supporting headphones could test this out as it may help sales. Best yet, perhaps Apple could state this on their tech spec pages if indeed these machines support apt-x...

  • What the 411 on the Apt-x?  I have 2nd gen. MB Air

I have these nice headphones--but the codec says "SBC"
    Any advice?

    I have the same issue.
I have the 2011 MacBook Air 11", which came with OS X Lion. Latest updates installed.
I have Sennheiser MM 550-x headphones, Creative D100 speakers and a QED uPlay bluetooth receiver. All of these devices support Apt-X.
When I connect any of these to my MacBook Air, alt-clicking on the Bluetooth icon and going to the connected device, it always shows "Active Codec: SBC". So it's not using the Apt-X codec.
@SJT81: could you please share details of your setup which works?
I did some digging of my own.
I enabled bluetooth logging as follows (in Terminal):
    sudo touch /var/log/bluetoothAudio.log
    sudo chmod 777 /var/log/bluetoothAudio.log
    tail -f /var/log/bluetoothAudio.log
Whenever I connect any of these devices, I see the following in the log:
    [BluetoothAudioAgent:336] BluetoothAudioAgent.m:373 [prepareA2DPAudioServices] Disabling AptX codec
So my MacBook Air is disabling the Apt-X codec. The question is why.
Another thing. Alt-click on the bluetooth icon. Select "Open Bluetooth Explorer". Go to the Utilities menu. Select "Special Options". There is a checkbox "Disable AptX Codec". This is NOT ticked on my macbook. But the Bluetooth driver seems to be disabling Apt-X anyway.
The product info page on the Sennheiser site for my MM 550-x headphones (here click Description) says:
    "The following 3rd party devices/configurations have built-in Apt-X support (updated 02/23/12):
Apple Mac OS X Snow Leopard and Lion Operating Systems
Apple Mac Mini (latest generation with latest OS update)
Apple Macbook Air (latest generation with latest OS update)
Apple Macbook (latest generation with latest OS update)
Sennheiser say clearly that my Macbook Air has built-in Apt-X support. It's the latest generation with the latest OS updates as of writing. I emailed Sennheiser asking them which "latest OS update" in particular is required. Got an automated reply saying they would respond soon generally within 24 hours. No reply since, and that was 2 weeks ago.
I'll be annoyed if it was false or misleading advertising. Not sure who I should contact next. I'm out of my "free phone support" period with Apple. Possibly CSR, the company who develops the Apt-X codec.
Any suggestions from anyone else would be appreciated. Particularly if anyone has been able to get Apt-X to work on a MacBook Air.

  • SRS-X77 APT-X?

So I just picked up the new SRS-X77 which is great by the way but it appears they got rid of the Apt-X support? Last year the SRS-X7 has it as well as all the other new ones, SRS-X33, X55, etc. But not the X77? What the heck? Can anyone from Sony confrm this and is there a way to enable it on this device becasue if not then basically the only way to bluetooth stream in HQ is from the Sony Walkman. I'm not gonna pay $1100 just to play BT music! Every Samsung, HTC and LG phones (literally hundreds of millions worldwide) use APT-x and to not support it...that's crazy?

    Hi bmcelvan,
Have you tried pressing the RESET button on the device?
Push the RESET button on the rear of the unit with a pointed object, such as a pin. Then turn on the unit.
Let us know if you're getting the same result.
    Thanks,

  • Problem getting bluetooth apt-x codec to work

    Hi fellow mac users,
I recently bought a creative wp-300 bluetooth headphones (comes with Apt-X support) and tried pairing with my macbook pro retina. The process of pairing the device was quite straight-forward and it was completed without much hassle.
However everytime I performed an option-click on the bluetooth icon, it shows that my active codec for bluetooth audio is SCO instead of Apt-X. There was only one instance after I messed about with connecting and disconnecting the device, I managed to get it worked with Apt-X codec. Sadly, I could not reproduce the same results after trying for the past few days.
I have done some research in the forums and I am sure it is not a bluetooth bandwidth conservation issue as I do not use any other bluetooth device except for this headset. Also, in most of the other cases, people seems to be getting their bluetooth headsets to work with SBC codec rather than SCO. May I ask in terms of sound quality and signal consistency (i.e. frequency of losing beats), how does the SCO codec fare against SBC and Apt-X?
More importantly, is there any way that I can always get my creative headset to pair and work with Apt-X codec? It is just kind of disappointing that I cannot make use of this technology when it is clearly supported by both devices (mac and headset).
    Regards,
    D

  • No Aptx on iPhone,iPod, iPad?

Today I received my new bluetooth headphones. I was so happy at the idea to listen to music with best quality possible thanks to Aptx..
For who doesn't know Aptx is a technology that allows to provide best quakity of sound over bluetooth. I was very disappointed to find out that Apple still today doesn't offer in any of the devices like iPhone, iPad and even iPod that is meant to be to listen to music! (especially when other vendors as samsung, htc, google do have this technology in their media players and smartphones).
Anyone knows if Apple devices will support Aptx soon? If yes when?
All iPod , iPad, macs , iPod should support Aptx!

    Hi,
today I got my Philips AEA2500 Bluetooth Hifi Adapter (with NFC and apt-X) and I tested it with my iPhone 5, Nokia Lumia 800 und MacBook Pro Retina (Mid 2012). I works and sounds good, but in comparison to Airplay something is missing. All devices sound the same via BT. I´m shure the Lumia 800 does not support apt-x, because its to old. I also found a list of apt-x supported devices:
    http://www.jessebandersen.com/2012/05/list-of-apt-x-compatible-devices.html
The Mac Books are listed as supported and iPhones, iPads, iPods and the Lumia 800 as not supported.
This Page shows how APT-X works:
    http://www.aptx.com/howitworks2
It seems that in my testcases not the full bandwith is transfered to the BT Receiver, beause "something was missing" in the music, the spectrum was not filled out, no volume and a little bit flat sound against the Airplay solution. In the next Days I will get an iPhone 5S and a Lumia 920 and retest it, but I assume I will not get a better result.
If you dont know the difference, the BT sound sounds well enough. I hope I will get an officially supported APT-X devices and can here the better quality.
    So my open questions are:
Does the Mac Book Pro Retina (Mid 2012) really support APT-X?
Why I didn´t hear a difference between MacBook and iPhone, if the Mac Book really supports aptX?
Does it really sound better than without aptX or same like Airplay?
    My Test Equipment:
Denon x2000 AV Receiver (Airplay support, PURE Sound Mode, without enabled Equalizer Opt.)
    Canton Chrono SL Speakers
Philips AEA2500 BT Hifi Adapter (aptX certified)
    Apple iPhone 5
Apple Macbook Pro Retina (Mid 2012, OSX 10.9.3)
    Nokia Lumia 800
Spotify Music Player with extreme quality streaming (320kbits/s vbr)

  • Support for apt-X codec while Bluetooth streaming?

I am wanting to stream music from my tablet to my home stereo via a bluetooth receiver connected to my home stereo AUX analog input. My question is whether the Z tablet supports the "apt-X" high fidelity codec format that is promoted with the higher quality bluetooth receivers?
If not, is there a way to update the Z with apt-X so that I can get a higher quality stream? Or does Sony (or the Bluetooth 4.0 standard) already have technology onboard the tablet that matches the apt-X sound quality?
    thanks

Thanks for all of the replies. I also saw in the Z white paper that the apt-X codec is not listed, so the question becomes "can apt-X be pushed via a software update?"

  • Do the latest iPad or iPhone4s support Bluetooth APT-X?

Does anyone know if iPad or iPhone4S support Bluetooth APT-X as I am considering getting a BT APT-X stereo headset?
    Thanks,
    Wen

I only see the following in the latest release for A2DP, it does not sepcify which encoding/decoding technology is supported such as SBC, AAC, APT-X, etc under A2DP
    Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP)
Advanced Audio Distribution Profile allows high quality audio (stereo or mono) to be streamed from one device to another over a Bluetooth connection. This is commonly used to play music wirelessly from iOS to a wireless headset or a compatible car audio system.

  • MW1 does not support Apt-X technology

Currently, MW1 does not support Apt-X technology.
Compare with Samsung HS3000,  MW1 do not support Apt-X technology for better sound quality. (lossless)
I'm looking forward MW1 to support this technology by firmware upgrade.
    Thanks.

  • Does iPad2 support apt-X for Bluetooth?

I would like to buy some Sennheiser headphones that support apt-X, but nowhere can I find whether the iPad2 supports it without the need for a dongle, despite hours of searching on forums and on Apple's sites.  Less important, but does a 3-year-old iMac support apt-X simply by virtue of running OS X 10.6.5 upwards, as has been vaguely suggested elsewhere?  All help would be much appreciated.

First of all, apologies for typing ACR instead of CSR, and secondly, thank you for lifting the fog over this issue.  So, does this mean that anything sent to Bluetooth headphones with apt-X from my Mac running 10.6.5+ will have apt-X capabilities, without any need for a dongle?  If so, well done Apple and CSR - but why does neither of them publicise it?  Finally, since this capability is built into the OS, any ideas on when I might see this in iOS, which is my main interest for all those long journeys watching movies and listening to music on my iPad?  Suddenly, the apt-X headphones are back on the shopping list....
