APTS DVD Studio Pro 4 questions

I running into problems and I do get not a answer yet from peachpit or Martin Sitter (he only says that it is peachpit where i should send my qeustion to), perhaps someone in this forum does have a answer.
In Lesson 15 Creating Menu Elements page 441 there is speak about the BBButtonStyle to put it in the Project tab, I don't get it in there (only in the Custom)
(no big deal but...) When I choose 'Project' it isn't their (tab) when I choose Custom it is there.
Also in this Lesson on page 446 about the place holder text in the dropzone. They are both (Place.. .ipr and the dropzone ) 400 x 60 pixels but still I get the 'Place holder Text (or next Chapter menu)
The text is wel out of the dropzone (text is shown half and jagged).
I have 3 Mac's and tested on 2 of them (MBP and dual 2.5 PM) and they both have the same 'error'.
I did not find any addendum on Peachpit website about this.
Here is a picture.

(I don't know if this work?)
I have several students which I give some kind of training in this, and I know then and they will ask about this and I do not have a good answer for this.
I hope you can help me out for a correct answer.
Bye,

I'm not sure if it was with the release of 4.0 (or some patch afterwards), but DVDSP no longer sees video files (QuickTime movies, LiveType or Motion projects) for there true size -- everything is interpreted as 720x480 (for NTSC) or 720x576 (for PAL) when placed in a menu.
Can't speak on the Button style thing, haven't tested that myself...

  • DVD Studio Pro Asset Question

I have been rendering out to .mov files using QuickTime conversion out of Final Cut Pro. However, each time I try to import this .mov file as an asset in DVD Studio Pro it gives me an error stating incompatible format. How do I need to be rendering out of Final Cut so that it is an acceptable file format for DVD Studio Pro?

Why are you doing a QT conversion?
    And what you converting to?
    h.264? Won't work.
Export QT/Current Settings/Audio and Video/Self contained and use compressor to go to m2v and dolby 2

  • DVD Studio Pro - Menu question

I am using a template for my menu, where the curtains part and a photo, which I have imported, is revealed. Somehow I must have deleted the photo; but when I try to apply it again, it takes up the whole screen, replacing the curtain. None of the other choices for applying it work either. Anyone know what I can do?
Also, my graphical view is blank, altho the DVD has multiple buttons, and they do function properly. How do I get the graphical view back?
Thanks - you've all be helpful with FCP issues in the past.
    Marcia

You didn't delete the photo, you deleted the drop zone.
The shape you deleted was the "theatercontent.pox"
Try this and if it does work, then just hit undo.
Select the menu, navigate the menu template under templates/apple, and double click on the theater menu template. This should reapply it.
As to the graphic view, simply click on the tab for graphic view rather than outline view.

  • Emergency questions exporting for dvd studio pro (ntsc and pal)

    Hi,
I'm under a tight timeline and would appreciate any help possible. I'm experimenting with outputs/burning today so the real thing can happen tomorrow.
I have an hour long project that was shot on two different kinds of cams -- a sony hdv V1U and pan dvx100b. The first shot mostly in 16:9, the second squeeze 24p. We imported all footage as non-hd though, because the V1u has had problems syncing properly with hd settings with final cut. The issue/question now is this-
I don't know what file format (I'm assuming mpeg-4 for DVD studio pro, but using compressor or no?) or settings to use -- I'm used to mpeg-4, but for some reason it is coming out all grainy/pixelated and I'm not sure if I need to adjust the settings. Also, once exported into a usable/high quality format, I need to burn a ntsc dvd but also a pal dvd -- I've burned pal dvds on dvd studio pro before and know adjusting the settings is just in preferences, but I'm assuming the video will need to be converted into a different kind of file. Or no?
My sequence settings are 1440x1080 (16:9), quicktime video settings compressor hdv 1080i60. When I export as a quicktime file the conversion is great and no problems, but that isn't workable in dvd studio pro.
I would appreciate any advice you could offer,
    Thank you,
    Tenzin

Thank you, I'm trying that -- someone else just mentioned it needing to be an mpeg 2 file as well. The trouble I'm having now in compressor is it isn't converting when I press submit -- nothing is showing up in the batch monitor. I've tried this directly exporting from fcp using compressor, as well exporting quicktime from fcp and then using the quicktime file in compressor.
I'm not used to using compressor so I'm thinking I am not doing something properly in this process? Thank you for the suggestions, they are reassuring. Do you know if the same file produced by compressor can be used for the pal dvd?

  • Is this now where to ask DVD Studio Pro questions?  If not, please let me know where.  Here's my question:  Using DVD Studio Pro 3, when trying to burn a disc which is 4.5GB, I get error message "Not eough disk space in target folder".  What to do?

Is this now where to ask DVD Studio Pro questions?  If not, please let me know where.  Here's my question:  Using DVD Studio Pro 3, when trying to burn a disc which is 4.5GB, I get error message "Not eough disk space in target folder".  What to do?

Thanks.  Unfortunately, I need to make a master DVD that can then be duplicated in bulk as a single layer disc.  This surprises me because I tried burning a different DVD project that has worked in the past which is also 4.5 GB and now I could not burn that either.  I also reencoded some material to get the new project down to 4.4 GB but it still would not burn.  Any ideas are appreciated.

  • A Compressor/DVD studio pro question

    Hi all.
    I have a Compressor/DVD studio pro question.
I have a compressor setting that is just the standard DVD MPEG 2 best quality 120 minutes. I have only changed the video setting to Pal as I am in Australia.
When I go to import the rendered product into DVD Studio Pro I get an error message saying "incorrect format". I even tried importing the rendered file into Toast Titanium and I get the same message from that program.
Can anyone help with this problem?

In DVD SP you have to set the format, NTSC or PAL first. Then import the clip. If there is already footage from one format already in the project you cannot flip it to the other. You have to remove the footage first. Then try flipping to PAL. Sometimes it doesn't work. Generally only video footage is ID'ed as PAL or NTSC. Audio just has frequency.

  • Install Order Question - Compressor 4 first or DVD Studio Pro 4 first...

Hi all, I have asked this on another forum but realized I probably should have tried here first.
I'm on a fresh install of Lion and am planning to use this to do authoring on.  I want to use compressor 4 which I will get from the app store and plan to use DVD Studio Pro 4 from my FCS3 set.
I'm not sure on the install order tho.
If I put my FCS3 disc in, it requires to install compressor to install DVD Studio pro.  Should I install from FCS3 first then buy Compressor 4 from the app store, or can I install compressor 4 first and some how bypass FCS3 attempting to install its copy of compressor?  I don't really need/want 2 copies of compressor on my system...  Any tips on what I can do to install just Compressor 4 and DVD Studio 4 without the Compressor and Qmaster from FCS3 I'd be most appreciative!!

My 2 cents…don't be in a hurry to get rid of Compressor 3.5 – particularly if you're planning to continue working with FCP 7. You can keep both on your system, no problem.  (This raises the question of why you need v4, but I asssume you have good reasons.)
I would begin by doing the FCS installation, then doing all the required updates; then I'd download the Compressor app and install. I'm pretty sure that this will automatically create a FCS folder and move all your legacy apps to that folder. The APple best practices doc for a single partition install says next step is to open the legacy version of Motion and then close before doimg anything with the new app (in your case, Compressor4).
Pretty confident that all your FCS apps – including DVSP – should work fine after this.
BUT. Always clone your systems drive so you can revert in case you don't like the results. (Time Machine is not an adequent substitute. I use Carbon Copy Cloner but there are alternatives.)

  • Using DVD Studio Pro theater template in Motion: Masking question

I'm wanting to use the video of the theater interior used in the DVD Studio Pro theater menu template in a Motion project. I'm wondering if there is a 'quick and dirty' way to mask out the black portion that appears when the curtains open, which is used as a 'drop zone' in the DVDSP menu (basically, wanting to get the same 'reveal' effect as I would get in DVDSP) or if I have to mask it frame by frame.
    Thanks!

Yes...except that's what I tried with the curtain earlier today, and what I got was....very strange. Instead of the the transition of shape that I had keyed, I got what was essentially the final set of points moving and warping in a very strange pattern.
I'll try it again (and not be as anal and do every frame...try skipping to every second...or half second, so I don't go completely cold turkey).
Thanks...wanted to make sure I was correct in how I thought it should work. (the art of masking is the one thing that just does not want to sink into this pooh brain of mine...)

  • DVD Studio Pro - Button Combo question

For DVD Studio Pro, can someone give me a walkthrough on how to make a directional button combination unveil an Easter Egg?  I'd like to use the combination UP UP DOWN DOWN

    Make four buttons any size
Name them so you can keep track of what is what in authoring
Set movement options by clicking on the the button/advanced tab/navigation
If a direction(left, right, up, down) is set to not set nothing will happen when the user pushes it.
When the user pushes up for the first time you set the navigation to the second up button.
When the user pushes up for the 2nd time you set the navigation to the first down button.
This is why it is useful to have them named something besides button 1.
Make sure you check all of the navigation for each button to ensure the user can't go somewhere you don't want them to. DSP will auto set directions when you create the buttons.
As far as the unveiling part this depends on what it is unveiling. The second down button will go somewhere when the down arrow is pushed. Whether that is a menu, a track, or a chapter marker is up to you.
Also be aware that you can set a button to have an auto action so that it activates immediately when it is navigated to. You may or may not want this on the 2nd down button.

  • DVD Studio Pro 4 Dual Layer Disc Question - Can Files Be Moved from Top to Bottom Layer?

    HI Everyone -
I have authored a dual layer DVD for a feature film with lots of bonus material.  I put the layer break in the least intrusive spot where the frame is already still and there is little sound.  Layer switch is fine.  DVD plays as it should with no problems other than the expected pause during the layer break.
I'd like to have the layer break at a point much earlier in the movie, where it actually goes to black and silence for a moment - a spot DVDSP4 won't let me assign a layer break marker to.  I do understand why.
DVD Studio Pro has the movie on the bottom layer of the DVD, I assume because that is the first track I created.
At this point, is it at all possible to move the tracks around where the bonus features take up most of the bottom layer so the less of the movie is on the bottom layer and I can move that layer break up (without completely re-authoring)?
    Thank you for your time.

    The fun continues...
The DVD Drive on my 10.6 machine seems to no longer be working...
Maybe this caused/contributed to/resulted in the earlier problem?
Anyone else experiencing similar issues? All hard drives and firewire drives seem to be functioning normally at this time.
My 10.5 machine appears to be eating through the DVD writing process successfully... slowly, but successfully

  • Medium Scale Production Question? (DVD studio Pro, FCP and Compressor)

    Please Help Me,
Ive made it to the last faze of 50 dvd production project with UNDERWATER video. Im trying to find the most efficient way to begin the DVD formatting process and Id like to think compressor could speed this up.
The underwater video is DV source captured in Final Cut 5, edited and marked with chapter markers for use with the custom DVD Studio Pro Menus.
Each DVD Menu is unique and each chapter marker corresponds with a button already prepared in a DVD studio pro menu.
    Im trying to determine:
    1. Whats the best setting to use for DVD quality (the tapes are no longer than 30 minutes)? My thought was a one pass CBR at 9mpbs.
    2. Can I create a batch process for the video and audio that WILL include the preset chapter markers and be useful in DVD studio pr? Ive attempted this process with the export to compressor setting in FCP 5 and then my custom 9mbs CBR setting in Compressor, but the "chapter" markers do not show up in DVD Studio Pro.
    3. What if any filters should i run over the video in Compressor to improve the quality of the underwater video? de-Interlacing? Color correction?
    4. Does it save me anytime to create this independent .m2v files for use in DVD studio pro or should I just create a export to quicktime file and let DVD studio Pro do the encoding? Does DVD studio pro re-encode the video when i burn my DVD with it?
Please help, ive got to get 29 done by monday and it took me months to get this far. Custom menus, editing, capturing, menu flaws, etc...
    Ryan

    Hi,
9mbs is too high if the discs will be duplicated (as opposed to replicated). 7 would be better. Be sure to compress the audio as Dolby Digital.
Do your color correction in FCP before compression.
    Best Wishes,
    Mitch

  • DVD Studio Pro - Universal Binary upgrade question.

I sent in my DVD Studio Pro 4 Upgrade disk along with the Form to upgrade to Final Cut Studio universal version.
I wanted to know how long it takes to get the new software. Also, what do you get? Do you get the box or just the disks?
    TIA...

Sadly, no, you do not get the 21 lb retail box. What you'll be getting is simply 9 discs and two small pamphlets: the license agreement, and 'Installing Final Cut Studio' (which really only outlines the minimum system specs). All this comes in an envelope, no box.
    As for the 9 discs:
    Final Cut Studio 5.1
    DVD Studio Pro 4.1
    Motion 2.1
    Soundtrack Pro 1.1
    LiveType Media 1
    LiveType Media 2
    Soundtrack Pro Loops
    Tutorial Disc 1
    Tutorial Disc 2
Though it's now (finally!) stated in the fine print, I suppose it's worth reiterating since it wasn't stated at all when the crossgrade program was announced: no printed manuals are provided.
As for turnaround time, it's basically 1st Class Mail to Indiana, 24-48 hour turnaround, then UPS Ground back to you. I bold UPS because I totally wasn't expecting it to come that way - this was a policy change made in April, apparently - and I was lucky to be at home when the dude came!

  • Dvd studio pro aspect ratio, any help would be awesome!!!

Hey mate, I have a quick question with finishing off my DVD.
What are the best settings for creating a normal dvd.
I have created a long film using my Canon DSLR, I have exported my film through compressor in 16:9 and imported it in DVD studio pro. I have used the 16:9 letterbox settings in DVD studio pro and burnt a disk, and when I play it back some DVD players make it look like it is squished horizontally so that everything looks fat, some dvd players automatically adjust and some you have to change some settings to make it look normal. What is the best way to make it look standard widescreen and not require any adjustments on the DVD players.
Am I correct in saying that by exporting it as 16:9 in compressor it makes it widescreen and then by selecting 16:9 in DVD studio pro it doubles the letterbox format and then looks squished, hence I should select 4:3 in DVD studio pro? Not sure here.
I would really appreciate any help anyone can give me, my film is stuck as a result of this problem. PLEASE help me.
    Cheers mate,
    jez

    Hi Jez,
You should post this to the Final Cut Studio board since it doesn't involve Final Cut Server.
