AR 8.2.x Native Gnome Print on Solaris

Hi,
I understand that Firefox 3 will be using the native gnome print dialogs. I'm wondering if there are any plans for acroread to integrate gnome print.
Thanks
Karl

Hi Karl,
Adobe Reader needs to present a consistent user interface across platforms (Windows, Mac, Unix) so this may not be possible. However, we appreciate your feedback and will consider the possibility of this in the next release.
Thanks,
Gaurav

Just updated the latest Epson software printer update from Apple. Now all my prints look solarized. How do I get rid of the new update and go back to the perfect prints I had before? Help please. Wasting ink and paper at the moment!!!!!!
I have tried the printer with my laptop (not updated) and everything is fine. It's just the beautiful 27" Imac that can no longer print.

Might be a corrupted printer preference file ...
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
    ~/Library/Preferences
    Click Go
Move the com.apple.PrinterPrefs.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
Restart your Mac, restart the printer...

  • How to configure network printer on solaris 10 intel based

how to configure the network printer in solaris 10
    like hp laserjet printer/printers,

    Very very easy.
Go to the print manager . (printmgr I believe or in the launch menu under preferences)
    select add a network printer
Fill out the info. I find that the hpijs printer driver works better then the suggested foomatic on my hp 4000s. I could not print pdfs otherwise.
Other things to know is the protocol should be BSD (at least it works for me). And add the port to the destination so 192.168.0.1:9600 for example (for hp).
thats about it. To have it show up correctly in JDS you should probably add it to the printer list under the launch->preferences->printer preferences.

  • Is there a native virtual machine 0n Solaris 10 x86?

Is there a native virtual machine 0n Solaris 10 x86? What is it called, if so?

Whats do you mean by a native virtual machine?
Java is implemented by a virtual machine. The command to invoke it is called "java".
A virtual machine is by definition a system to implement a virtual copy of one architecture on another. Which virtual architecture are you interested in finding an implementation of?

Lost my gnome panel on solaris 10 x86 box and can't understand why.
Can anyone help me out to restore my panel ?

The quick way would be to just rm all of the files in your home directory and then log out and back in again. A more convenient method would be to move the contents of your home directory somewhere else and then log out and back in again and then copy the files back so you don't have to re-customize it.

  • Implementing secure print in solaris 10

    Hi Team,
We have planned to implement secure print in solaris 10 for xerox printer 5230 which will support to secure print
And i have checked cups server there's no option like printing secure print, same we implemented secure print in windows side and its working fine.
Refer URL for secure print in windows side : http://www.ubc.ca/okanagan/itservices/service-catalogue/computers-printers/printcopy/secureprinting.html
Objective : Printer needs to ask password if any thing print given from solaris server or workstation.?
is ther any way to implement secure print in solaris 10?
Please suggest me solution with your valuable post?
    Regards
    Sreekanth

    Thanks for your suggestion.
I dont have clear picture about centerware and surely i will start study on this,
    Clarify me some doubts:
is centreware having option to implement secure print now the users are giving print on normal basis & its production system?
if i install centreware on this production any effect on the print services?

  • Remote Printing in Solaris 8 across the network

    Hi
I am trying to setup a printer on Solaris 8 server. The printer is located on the Client side outside our network and using the Axis Print Server.
The way it is setup is... print request goes through our server to a virtual IP which forward the request to firewall via port 515, which further forwards the request to client's firewall and then inturn to printer.
We have been able to setup the printer using the command:
lpadmin -p "printername" -s "VirtualIP"!"print Queue on the client side"
This works fine with the /usr/ucb/lpr command as the printer on the client side accepts only lpr command.
However, the problem is, when we print manually, it prints fine. However when we run a script which as an output fires multiple prints to the printer, the Printer prints coule of files which are smaller in size but does not print the bigger file and nothing after that. it just keep on sitting on the queue.
We have tried increasing the timeout to 120 secs but that didnt help either.
Please suggest if you have any idea about this or if you have done the similar kind of setup in the past.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Cheers.

    Hello jnapier99
The Officejet 6500 E709n does have a Windows 8 driver, however, it does not have a Windows 8 RT driver which is what the MS Surface tablet uses. This would explain the message you are receiving.

  • How to install a network print on solaris 10

How to install a network print on solaris 10?
    Thank You!

    Thank you Zettabyte!!
Folks, network printers should NOT BE configured like this:
    lpadmin -p somequeue -s someprinter
that creates a remote style queue and puts all the I/O and processing capability on the basic LPD listener present on network printer interfaces. This will cause problems down the road, not to mention that you cannot control access, get any logging, filter content, or control banner pages.
Network printers should use any software (or PPD file) supplied by the vendor over the basic lpadmin/netstandard config.
You can install CUPS, but Oracle won't support it until it's part of the OS (S11, apparently).
The "System Administration Guide: Solaris Printing" is highly recommended for those administering printers on Solaris.

  • Is there native file system for solaris cluster?

As GFS for RedHat Linux and GPFS for AIX, is there any native file system for solaris cluster? Thanks for any infomation!

What do you mean by 'native'?
Oracle Solaris Cluster has a feature called the Global File System (or sometimes the Proxy File System). It allows UFS or Symantec VxFS to be mounted globally (on all cluster nodes simultaneously) in read/write mode. There is also a shared QFS option. All these are described in the documentation and in the book "Oracle Solaris Cluster Essentials".

  • Sharing windows hp printer with solaris

    hi
I have hp laser jet P1102 printer which i want to share with solaris. I have added the printer in solaris using lpadmin but i am not able to print to this printer.
I have another printer which is laserjet 1320 which is added to solaris box in the same way and i am able to print without any issues.
i would like to know if there is any step to know if a printer would print successfully from unix.
    looking forward to your support.

thank you very much for your reply
so when i buy a new printer i how do i know it will be able to print from solaris. By comparing the above two printers i can see that one printer is Postscript enabled which is actually printing from solaris. So if i buy a printer that supports posscript will it print properly?
please correct me if my understanding is wrong becuase we need to buy a printer which will print from solaris.

  • [SOLVED] Gnome Printing

    Hi folks,
For as long as I've been using Arch, I don't remember having this issue and I can't find something directly relating to it.
When I or other users on my system attempt to add a printer, it requires root ("Administrator" on the pop-up, actually) access, which is an annoyance to say the least. I double-checked my work on the CUPS Arch Wiki page and journalctl doesn't spit out anything obvious and accessing the web interface is fine but the GNOME front-end seems to be a PITA right now. Is there something I am missing that I need to do?
That or I'm missing something painfully obvious, which will be made very clear to me soon. If it is that obvious, feel free to launch a public shaming campaign.
    Thanks!
    Czar.
EDIT: Realized I never asked a question - so I added one.

I managed to fix my problem with the cunning (sarcasm, sarcasm) use of a polkit rule in /etc/polkit-1/rules.d/.
    polkit.addRule(function(action, subject) {
    if (action.id == "org.opensuse.cupspkhelper.mechanism.all-edit" &&
    subject.isInGroup("lp")) {
    return polkit.Result.YES;

  • Print to windows remote printer from solaris Please help

    Hi,
I basically have 2 machines that are networked ( a solaris 9 sparc machine & a windows machine) The epson C42UX is on the Windows XP machine. I have samba set up on the Unix machine and can succesfully access solaris folders from the my network places folder in windows. My problem is that I want to print documents from my unix machine through the windows printer?
How would I go about doing this, I have searched the documentation for months and all I have come up with is lots of different ways of doing this none of which seem to work? Most of the methods refer to ancient equipment :-)
Also my Epson C42UX is connected to a USB port on windows USB0001 I think. Even if anyone could give me any links to a complete tutorial! I even have 2 samba books which mention about printer setup then conviently assume you no the most difficult parts.
Any Help would be greatly appreciated
iVE been at this for months ........I am starting to see why windows does so well
    Regards
    David
