Arabic font become smaller in Pages' PDF in Yosemite

It seems that Pages (5.5.1) in Yosemite has a bug that makes some fonts become small when exporting or making PDF.
I have this problem, both in Adobe Arabic OTF font and a font that an OTF font that I've made myself.
Does anybody has any solution or experience about this issue?

First, Thank you Tom. Yes, it is a bug. Actually the only problem is that the glyphs are smaller, otherwise the correct instant of the characters are used.
And then, thank you Jeff. At least now I know what causes it. The UPM of my font as well as Adobe Arabic fonts are set to 2048 due to complexity of the shapes. But there I have other TTF with the same UPM that works fine. So I guess this is something that happens to only OTF fonts in Pages.
At least now I know what is the cause. I hope Apple would solve this. Thank you!

  • Can I use InDesign to format several small multiple-page PDFs into one large multiple-page PDF?  I want to stack 6 identical 3"x4" PDFs (50 pages long) onto one 8.5"x11" PDF (50 pages long) without having to align each image on each page individually.

    This seems like a standard thing that professional printers would have to do to efficiently maximize paper usage.  Can it be done with InDesign?

    Okay, thanks!  However, just to make sure, can I place a multi-page PDF (or InDesign document) onto a larger InDesign document that will automatically align each page in the same place all the way down the InDesign document? I am not looking to place single PDF pages one at a time because that will be highly inefficient for my purposes (I am going to have over 400 different 50-page 3"x4" PDFs that I wish to stack up 6 times on to a 50-page 8.5"x11" InDesign document).  How do I acquire/use the scripts that automate placing multi-page PDFs? Thanks!

    I am trying to use special Arabic fonts in my html page that I run locally. So I created an html page that contains an Arabic font. The font was displayed as it should be in IE and Chrome, but the same font wasn't displayed in Firefox.

    The new update has screwed up my browser settings, I cannot get them fixed and Im pissed because my computer is an eye-sore to read until this is fixed! EVERYTHING in the browser is smaller, fonts, menus, icons, web page content, pictures, tables, etc. I have set the minimum font in the settings and the text is just to a point where it is easily readable at the maximum size setting, but all the menus and icons are still tiny and hard to read. The last version I had installed worked fine with no add-ons needed. Everything fit the screen fine and was easily readable without modification. I want this version off my PC and I want the last version I had back on but I dont know what version it was!!!!!!! ARARGGGG
    In fact, this stupid troubleshooting window that I am in filling out this form doesnt fit the page right at all, and edges of the text are cut off, so Im not even sure what some of these boxes are asking for!!

  • Why does pdf become smaller file after opening in illustrator?

    A client sent me a 12-page pdf with type changes that had to be done in Illustrator to almost half the pages. I openeded them in Illustrator, fixed the type, resaved as pdfs and replaced those pages in the pdf with the revised ones. After the first round of corrections the file went from 58 MB to 24 MB. After the second round of corrections the file has gone down to 6.3 MB! Some of the corrected pages in the pdf contain high resolution photos. Onscreen the images look just as sharp as in the original pdf. How could the file have gotten so small, and how will it affect the quality if it's printed on an offset press?

    MMM, good ideas thank you!
    When I open in Acrobat its fine. When I open as PDF in Illustrator its
    corrupt.
    When I place in a new ai file, as a link, its fine. When I place in new
    file, embedded, its corrupt.
    However, when I open as a PDF in Illustrator or place it as an embedded PDF
    into Illustrator, it includes all the layers, I can select the separate
    corrupt layers and delete them. So it turns out I can get rid of them with
    this process.
    It seems perhaps its an indesign thing, and a Indesign Tables thing. When I
    outline the Table and its contents, it creates another layer of outlined
    text on top of the live text. If I try and delete the non-outlined text, it
    deletes the Table lines?? So if I leave it as is, I believe its the live
    text underneath that is substituting for some reason?

  • PDFs with Arabic fonts

    I got problems with PDFs with Arabic fonts?
    Is it  a frequent??

    What specific problems are you having? In the general case, we know that Hebrew, Arabic, and other non-Latin fonts do properly display with the Adobe Reader assuming of course that the fonts are properly embedded in the PDF files.

  • How do I globally change the font across all pages in a multi-page PDF document

    I have a 500 page document. I suceeded in changing only the font on the first page using Acrobat Pro and selecting "Edit Text and Images", selecting "All" on the first page and changing the font.  It worked perfectly.  Now I want to apply that font change to the remaining 499 pages. Any ideas?

    Sorry Bill, not how it works. You can select text across a page boundary using the normal multi-select tool for copying, but you cannot edit across a page boundary. If you try to activate the ETI tool from the Content Editing panel or use the context menu "Edit Text" item, Acrobat will trim the selection to the current page only.
    The previous two responses are correct - you must either repeat the edit by hand on every page, or go back to the original document and make the changes there (which is the expected workflow for such a drastic alteration).

  • Exported pdf Barcode font goes small

    Hi I've a known issue with my bar code font, it's smaller Hi i've looked at the issue with the barcode font being small on the BO website, set the registry to ForceLargerFont = 1 for crystal decisions 10.2 but have the same issue. If it helps the only font that seems to work is the XXS one, which is too small for my needs. The rest are even smaller, when i code to set the barcode to be e.g. 30 it disappears entirely. Not sure if this helps but the server also has BO XI on it. Can anyone help on this issue as it's the last thing on my project to resolve? I'm using the IDAUTOMATION EAN package. thanks

  • AS) export single page PDFs from multi-artboards

    I'm not exactly sure where my new problem lies. I'm trying to save out single page PDFs from an Illustrator CS4 document with multiple artboards. Each artboard should become a PDF. I can get a multi page PDF, but when it saves single page files, I get white PDFs with error messages on them (I think it is saving .ai files with a .pdf extension).
    this is where I am now (simplified, of course):
    tell application "Adobe Illustrator"
    set docName to name of current document
    set itemNumber to 1
    tell application "Finder" to set fileLoc to path to desktop as string
    set pageCount to (count artboards in document docName)
    tell current document
    set allPlacedItems to placed items
    repeat with h from 1 to (count of allPlacedItems)
    set thisPlacedItem to item h of allPlacedItems
    tell thisPlacedItem to embed
    end repeat
    set allTextItems to text frames
    repeat with j from 1 to (count of allTextItems)
    set thisTextItem to item j of allTextItems
    tell thisTextItem to convert to paths

    repeat with i from 1 to pageCount

    end repeat
    close current document without saving
    end tell

    // Save the artboards to PDF.
    var myDoc = app.activeDocument;
    var original_filename = myDoc.name.toString();
    // alert (myDoc.name.toString() )
    // Get the folder location
    var destFolder = Folder.selectDialog('Select the folder to save the PDF files to:');
    // Get the number of artboards to export from a dialogue
    var total =  myDoc.artboards.length
    //     Number.selectDialogue('Total Number of Files to be made')
    if (destFolder) {
         for (i=0; i<total; i++)
              var destFile = new File(destFolder+original_filename+"_"+i);          //     Assign incrementing filenames
              var pdfSaveOptions = new PDFSaveOptions();
              pdfSaveOptions.viewAfterSaving = false;          //     Don't want to see these fles in Reader
              pdfSaveOptions.SaveMultipleArtboards = true;
              var range = new String();
              range = (i+1).toString();
              pdfSaveOptions.artboardRange= range;     //     not Assign incrementing page range
              myDoc.saveAs (destFile,  pdfSaveOptions);
    I've run this script on the 3 art board document the Adobe sample scripts create. It's a just different coloured star on each artboard.
    This script appears to work in as far as I get 3 files with just one artboard showing when I open the files in Adobe Reader. Problem is when I open them in AI, I can see all the artwork is still there and even more stranger is the fact that the numbers are still 1,2,3 whereas in Reader it's just page i showing as page 1 each time.
    This could be a problem when the application I'm writing generates an image structure from the files if it sticks the excess data onto the GPU (not sure if it will or not). If it includes all the data, also it just makes the Application footprint bigger by a 8 MB or so of unnecessary baggage. An issue for a 'light weight' app.
    I noticed the export ExportArtboardsPhotoshop.jsx script has this line:
    psdExportOptions.saveMultipleArtboards = true;
    It works in that context but in PDF context it only works in terms of what Reader shows not what exists in the files. Good one Adobe… Makes me wonder what the Multiple art boards method did before AI had multiple art boards. How was AI dividing the objects?!
    Also I really need a SaveAsCopy (non-existent I think) method or I'll have to keep reopening the original file and then doing SaveAs.
    Back to manual duplicating files in finder, batch renaming, opening them all and deleting excess. Or export to PSD and get my dimensions right or just oversized (I can always down sample in the app)…
    This is truly a painful exercise!

  • Mail Composed, and incoming messages displayed Font too small.

    Most emails I receive and my outgoing composed messages use a font size around 12 point. People who receive my emails see a normal size, but while I am composing or reading incoming messages the font displayed is too small and difficult to read.
    When I use other applications where I also use or view a 12 point font, and have the viewing magnification set to 100%, the displayed font is just fine. I think this is due to my screen resolution which is set to 1280x800 on my 13" MacBook.
    When I change my screen resolution to 1024x768, the mail displayed 12 point font becomes readable, and in other applications the 12 point font at 100% magnification is the same as when I was using the 1280x800 screen resolution.
    I have tried entering Command-Plus to magnify the displayed mail message, it actually increases the font size in the message rather than magnifying the message and keeping the font the same.
    Is there another way I can magnify just the displayed message without magnifying the whole desktop/screen?
    Thanks in Advance.
    Jeff Cameron

    Yes, setting the monitor to the default resolution, it does look fine. But for applications like Word, Pages, Preview and many other when you set the display zoom magnification to 100.00 regardless of the screen resolution the text seems normal, but in Mail, there is no screen zoom magnification, and so the higher the screen resolution, the smaller the text in composed and received messages is.

  • Arabic fonts in InDesign CS6

    I¹m looking for some help regarding Arabic fonts on Mac InDesign CS6 (Adobe Creative Suite 5.5).
    I¹ve designed a company profile in English and they need it to be translated into Arabic for their Middle Eastern branch. They¹ve sent the correct Arabic copy in a Word document but the moment I copy it into InDesign it corrupts and becomes illegible. I¹ve looked on the Adobe and Apple forums but can¹t find a solution for the problem.
    This is a Mac problem because one of my friends have InDesign for Windows and the font works 100% on her version. I think the problem is that the Arabic font was written for Windows and is therefore not compatible with Mac.

    This is a Mac problem because one of my friends have InDesign for Windows and the font works 100% on her version.
    Mmmmaybe.
    Can you tell us the name of the font?  In which version of Word is the Arabic rendering correctly? Do you have a known-good PDF to compare your Arabic against? If not, how do you know that the Arabic is rendering correctly anywhere?
    It was my understanding that Mac Word simply can't handle right-to-left scripts like Arabic, so it's possible that your translation provider has used a very old font that fakes the cursive connections between letters in Arabic. It could also be the case that the font is Arial - versions of Arial installed with Office for Mac traditionally don't have Arabic glyphs because Mac Office has not offered RTL support for Arabic. But the font technologies used in Windows for Arabic support (both in TrueType and OpenType) do, in fact, work on the Mac, assuming the font was made by someone who knew what they were doing.
    Both Peter and shnath offer good advice. I am a big proponent of World Tools, but in CS6 if you have a correctly formatted Word document you should be able to just place it and get RTL behaviors, if the font used has Arabic support.
    Lastly:
    I¹ve designed a company profile in English and they need it to be translated into Arabic for their Middle Eastern branch.
    I don't do much commercial work myself (I'm more of a nonprofit, social-service guy) but a "company profile" sounds to me like something that should be typeset by a graphic designer who actually reads the language. You are working on some kind of marketing or business speech intended for distribution in a culture where good calligraphy and typography are very important. It is unfortunately very easy for those of us who are not immersed in these calligraphic traditions to accidentally do something equivalent to formatting a press release in sixteen-point Comic Sans. So if you keep posting in this thread we can get you to the point where your Arabic copy is legible, and probably to the point where it's not embarassing. But if your clients need anything more than basic legibility, you may want to hand this off to someone who is an in-language professional.
