Arabic in Indesign on Windows 8

Hi,
I have some books made on CS4 on Windows 7. I have a new machine which has Windows 8 and now I have installed CS4 on the new machine, some of the characters are not showing properly. If I open the same file on my Windows 7 machine, i can see it without any problems.
I then installed the "Arabic Enabled" CS6 trial and still had the same problem. I used the workaround script to use Arabic on CS4 standard version and not the ME version.
The whole books is almost in Arabic so I can't really afford to retype the whole thing.
Does anybody have any tips?

Willi, it's still legitimate to print to PDF through Print Booklet on Windows to get an imposed file for manual duplexing (among other reasons).

  • InDesign for Windows + Arabic and Nepali languages

    Is it possible to create documents in Nepali and Arabic in InDesign CS3 for Windows?
    Any specific requirements?

    We are looking at a project taking some very old Nisus documents and reproducing them in InDesign CS3. I am still gathering data from the original person who did the manuals years ago. So far all I have is that they used an old version of Nisus that only works on OS 9 and they used Dallas, Dalstuff, and Dallas Bold fonts.
    Any ideas as to whether we could convert this or import the text into InDesign CS3?
    Or perhaps more importantly how well InDesign CS3 will work with Nepali in the first place.
    Thanks,

  • How do i install indesign with windows 8 on a pc

    how do i unstal indesign with windows 8 on a pc?

    Visit this page please: http://www.adobe.com/products/indesign/buying-guide.html and then on the right hand panel of the page you will find InDesign Annual plan to Join Adobe Creative Cloud to leverage the most updated features of InDesign CC. When you've purchased it, you'll be able to download the software through Adobe Download Assistant as a electronic download that you can save to your desktop or any other location. You can then doubleclick the installer executable to proceed with installation and activation later on as the installation completes. If you're having another version of InDesign (older version ) then please let me know if you already downloaded the installer and then waiting to install it on your Windows 8 PC.

  • InDesign CS4 window fills screen at open

    I just installed Adobe CS4 Design Premium version 6.0.3.  When I open a document using InDesign, the window nearly fills the 30" screen on my Apple HD Display.  I would like to adjust the window size so that it frames an 8.5"x11" portrait document with only a little margin all the way around.  When I do this and save the document, it always opens to the same, large window.  It would be much more efficient if I could set the window size to the desired dimensions so that it would open in that configuration and not in the large version.  I can't seem to make that happen.  Any ideas?  Thanks for any help you can give.  I'm running 10.5.7 on a Mac Pro (Early 2008) with 2GB RAM and plenty of hard drive space.

    Not sure how this will come across, but here is the Javascript (it works in CS3) - with my apologies to the author, whose name I have lost:
    //DESCRIPTION: Resets active window size or uses front window to set default size.
    // Check for WindowDefault.txt; if present use it to set front window
    // if not, use front window to set it after checking with user.
    myPath = app.activeScript;
    myParts = myPath.toString().split("/");
    myParts[(myParts.length - 1)] =  "WindowDefault" + app.version.slice(0,1) + ".txt";
    myNewPath = myParts.join("/");
    mySettingsFile = File(myNewPath);
    // Before proceeding, check that there is a front window
    // If not, offer user the chance to delete the current settings
    if (app.windows.length < 1) {
    beep();
    if (confirm("No window is open; would you like to delete the settings file?")) {
      // User said yes; check that it exists
      if(mySettingsFile.exists) {

      myBounds = savedBounds.split(",");
      for (i = 0; i<myBounds.length; i++) {
       myBounds[i] = Number(myBounds[i]);
      app.windows[0].bounds = myBounds;
    } else {

      if (confirm("Settings file is missing. Use current front window to set default?")) {
       // User said: go to it.

  • Upgrade from InDesign Mac to InDesign CS4 Windows, Is this possible?

    Hi all, I have Indesign CS2 Mac, now I am switching to Windows platform and i want to upgrade to Indesign CS4 Window. Is this possible from my copy and  serial number of InDesign CS2 Mac.

    You had better hurry, as when CS5 comes out (sometime in April or early May) there is a very short grace period to do this. I found out the hard way and was too late and had no other choice than to pay to get CS4.
    It's not certain when InDesign CS5 might be released, until Adobe makes a formal announcement. You might want to discuss with an Adobe customer service SUPERVISOR whether you can make the cross-grade after CS5 is formally announced (not released, just announced), and also ask the SUPERVISOR whether your purchase of the cross-grade after the announcement will qualify for a free upgrade to CS5.
    Sometimes policies change, but, I believe that there's a period after announcement of a new release, before it's shipping, that by purchasing the outgoing release, you get a free upgrade to the announced release. I think there's a charge for a boxed product, but not for the downloaded product.
    I'm suggesting SUPERVISOR, because information of this kind often isn't made completely clear to regular customer-support folks. If a supervisor can't give you certain info, ask for the supervisor's MANAGER. Get the name of the person who gives you the info, so you have someone to work with if a problem arises.
    Buying an expiring product in the brief period between announcement of the next release and its actual shipping date, usually results in such a free upgrade. It's important for you to get accurate information about whether upgrading a product in this period works the same way..

  • Writing in Arabic in InDesign CS3

    A customer asked us to reproduce a card in Arabic.
    We have the scan of the card in .jpg
    Now, I enabled Arabic in the keyboard layouts,
    in International inputs and I do have arabic fonts that work.
    The problem I have (I am only able to recognize Arabic letters, I do not speak Arabic)
    is that even if the text is right aligned, the characters are added from the right,
    not the left. In other words, the text is right aligned but as I add characters
    they add themselves to the right of the characters that's already there.
    How do I do this?
    P.S. I noticed in Keyboard viewer (Mac OS Menu) that the Arabic letters are only shown
    in one form (individual letters) and I know that in Arabic letters are written differently whether
    there are in front, in the center or at the end (left) of the word. How do I know which character to choose if I'm not Arabic!
    Thanks

    There is this small utility software that will enable non Adobe ME applications to accept Arabic text. Just type your short Arabic text in arPIX pro, then copy and paste the text into InDesign. Text will stay as text after pasting in InDesign.
    Software is found here http://www.grapheast.com/ge-software/cp.php?id=99

  • Cannot Print InDesign from Windows 7 OS

    Hi all,
    I am hoping someone might be able to suggest something that can fix this issue. I just got a new machine with Windows 7 as the OS. This is a brand new machine. I've installed PageMaker, InDesign CS4, and Acrobat 9 Pro - complete installations of each. When I attempt to print to any printer (my local, the network, or PDF) only garbage prints on the page... It appears as symbols and characters across the top of each page and seems to feed pages indefinitely until forcing met to shut off the selected printer.
    I've checked for updates and all are up to date.
    I tried to outsmart it by printing as a PDF and also tried exporting to PDF. It works on three of five files. The two that will not create a PDF gives an error stating that Distiller cannot be started.
    Any suggestions are most appreciated.
    Thank you!

    Well, I can report that removing the HP 2800 InkJet driver did not fix the problem.
    The only drivers currently installed (now) are applicable to either my local printer or the network printers that I use. All test pages print without issue.
    The only print issues I am experiencing from any program is from Adobe PageMaker and InDesign.
    Open for more suggestions and very grateful for your help!

  • InDesign for Windows Vista

    I have seen that InDesign is only supported by Windows 7 and 8.
    Is there any chance to get a version for Windows Vista?
    Thank you

  • Using Indesign CC (2014) 10.1.0.71 (swedish version) ARABIC in indesign. Download Plug-in or whole program "Arabic version"? Link?

    A client wants me to work on a text which is both english and arabic.
    I heard this is only possible with the arabic version of indesign?
    If I place the text in my present version, it comes out unreadable (arabic letters/words -but not connected and jibberish my client cannot read)
    I heard I have to install something, is it a plugin or a whole program?
    i am panicing since I have very short time left, I will get to work next to an arabic speaking person tomorrow who will guide me - But I want to prepare the isntallation first!
    Where do I start?
    Will installing the program affect my regular version of indesign?
    Thankful for links!
    (I subscribe monthly to CC, maybe it is included? )

    ME version means Middle East Version, it is the general term for all RTL versions. Until CS6 it was sold as separate version. Since CC it is included without any additional cost starting fro CS6 up to the latest version which is now CC 2014.
    Follow these steps as I have written before:

    You have installed Swedish InDesign, it is ok, leave it, don't uninstall it.
    Open the Creative Cloud Application.
    Opent the preferences and in the Apps change the language to English with Arabic support.
    Install InDesign
    Now are additional plugins installed which add new functionality to your Swedish version.
    You can switch back to your language in the CC app.
    This works with any other language system the very same. Each install will add plug ins to extends the functionality.
    InDesign chooses the same language as your OS.

  • How can one resize a inDesign Document Window without moving Document's position?

    I've searched high and low for an answer to this habit that inDesign has. Am I the only one that finds this annoying?
    You go to adjust the size of your document window to move it out of the way to get to something else on your desktop, and instead of keeping the document in place and just resizing the window, it moves the document with the resize. Not sure if I'm putting this in a way that people can understand me. Say I have two inDesign files open side by side and I zoom in on an area and adjust my view of the page. Then I go to the other inDesign document and adjust the view by grabbing the bottom right hand corner of the window and moving it to where I want it. The whole document then moves with it! I desire it not to, so now I have to waste time by using the hand tool to move it back into place. Illustrator doesn't act like this. Photoshop doesn't act like this. Only inDesign. Does this harken back to the PageMaker days? Am I missing a preference somewhere I need to change? Or is it just the way of things and I'm stuck with it?
    Currently using inDesign CS5 and CS6 on a Mac in OS 10.6.8

    Hi,
    The simplest would be to set the application preferences in the script.
    Like this :
    -- *** set prefs ****
    tell application "AppleWorks 6"
          activate
          set oldPrefs to its preferences
          copy oldPrefs to tPrefs
          tell tPrefs
                set old version warning to false --doesn't show the old version warning alert
                set converted file suffix to true -- append “[v6.0]” to documents converted from older formats
                set locked file warning to false
                set paint reduction warning to false
          end tell
          set preferences to tPrefs
    end tell
    -- *** end set prefs ****
    --**** your script, example ***
    set tfiles to choose file with multiple selections allowed
    tell application "AppleWorks 6"
          repeat with i in tfiles
                open i
                tell front document
                      -- do something
                end tell
          end repeat
    end tell
    --**** end  your script ***
    -- *** reset prefs ****
    tell application "AppleWorks 6" to set preferences to oldPrefs

  • Extension Panel Not Shown in InDesign Extensions Window

    I finally managed to view Maria Gutierrez' tutorial on building a plug-in. The demo <sarcasm>very cleverly</sarcasm> does not provide instructions or a downloadable sample file for either the manifest.xml or the <my-project>.mxml file. I actually had to freeze the frame and manually write out what I saw in the demo.
    I followed her instructions for copying the bin-debug folder (actually, she only gives instructions for MAC, and I copied them to the "C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CS5ServiceManager\extensions\" folder on my Windows 7 as per the "Using the Adobe Creative Suite 5 SDK" PDF. I also set the registry value to allow debugging.
    When I opened InDesign, I couldn't see my extension in Windows->Extensions.
    However, if I copied the extension directly into the "D:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS5\Plug-Ins\Panels" folder, the extension appeared in the list and functioned just fine.
    I have csaw_indesign.swc refernenced correctly in my list of libraries and <Host Name="IDSN" Version="7" /> in my manifest.xml.
    I'd really appreciate help here.
    TIA
    mlavie

    Maybe take that as a lesson to not be so sarcastic...
    They really did very good work with the CS SDK. Documentation is always a little sparse in a 1.0 version of anything...
    Anything missing in the docs is more than made up by this forum!

  • InDesign cc - Windows Vista

    Hi,
    I just purchased InDesign cc and I want to install it on my desktop that is running on Windows Vista.
    How do I do that?

    Hi,
    It's not possible ,to install CC applications you must have at least Windows 7.You can install CS6 version with your subscription .
    To download and install previous versions of apps, such as CS6, do the following:
    Open Creative Cloud for desktop and go to the Apps panel.
    Filter the apps by Previous Versions.
    Choose a version from the Install menu.
