Arabic text in indesign

Hi
I have indesign cs6 version 8.0.2. I would like to know how I can have a document that has arabic and english text. As when i copy and paste my arabic text into a text window, with the correct font selected (adobe arabic), it does not work. Do I need to download a specific plug in? do I need the Middle east version of Indesign?
Please can someone help. Its for a brochure that is in arabic and english in teh same file.
Thanks a lot

Hi,
Please select all the Arabic text in InDesign and either go to Paragraph Palette flyout menu or Control panel fly out menu. You'll find a host of composers. Please select Adobe World-Ready Paragraph Composer instead of Adobe Paragraph Composer. And your Arabic texts will work.
You don't need to download a specific plug in. Ideally, You should need Middle east version of InDesign to get other design related ME features.
Thanks,
Irfan

  • Problems with pasting arabic text into indesign

    HI,
I am trying to cut and paste arabic text from Word 2007 to indesign ( ENGLISH) CS4
this is the text from word
This is the text when i paste it into indesign
    They look completely different!
    No clue why
I have installed the arabic keyboard onto the computer
I have installed the arabic font from adobe
I have installed the script to switch text from left to right --right to left (I found that script here
    http://indesignsecrets.com/free-script-for-hebrew-or-arabic-text-in-regular-version-of-ind esign.php)
but I am getting the same problem
    any suggestions!!
    thanks

Pre-CS4 I would either change the glyph order and the individual glyphs by hand -- for *extremely* short string only --, or simply print the original file (which is usually Word) to a PDF and place that as an image.
Jongware's method is the best easy way to achieve this (placing the PDF file, I mean - manually hunting for medial glyphs is something I'd only suggest for those who have some demonstrated familiarity with the script in question). If your client insists that you not use a placed PDF for complex-script languages ("The Arabic is a picture, and I can't change the color of the text! Please send me something editable.") and you have no ME tools, you can open up that PDF, save out an EPS file, and in the "Settings" button in Acrobat you can find the "convert all fonts to outlines," save, open up the EPS in AI, copy the handily outlined AR text, and paste that into InDesign. It doesn't work perfectly, but it will do in a pinch.

  • Copying and pasting Arabic text in InDesign CS4 ME

We have an arabic document in pdf and word formats and we have InDesign CS4 ME and we are trying to copy and paste text from the pdf/word document but the font isn't transferring, there is nothing only boxes. We have turned on the arabic keyboard and that didnt help either. Working on a mac.
Can anyone help us? What is the solution?

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
We have turned on the arabic keyboard and that didnt help either.
Well, why should it. Unless you are typing Arabic, that won't do anything at all. Copy-and-paste is not typing.
If copy-and-paste does not copy the font along so you get the pinky squares in InDesign, it only means that your default InDesign font does not support those characters. Select your text and then choose another font -- one you are sure of contains Arabic.
If you still get pink squares, it's more likely the text in the PDF is not encoded properly, and in that case no-one can't help you -- but it ought to work directly from Word.

  • Arabic text in indesign CC

soon I'll have to format, in indesign CC, some texts in Arabic, Chinese and Russian. there are some plug in or other that i need to provide?
thanks in advance for any suggestion

While our in-house expert in foreign languages gives you a more substantive answer, you can check http://in-tools.com/products/plugins/. I think you can deal with Russian with ID CC using the Adobe World-Ready Paragraph Composer and a font with the appropriate glyphs. Arabic and Chinese are a different story.

  • Probelms with ARAB text in INDESIGN

hi, i'm using indesign to create a document that contains both ARAB words and english words. I've copied the texts form a word file and paste in INDESIGN.
but the program does not maintain the right sequence of the ENGLISH word and does not allow me to move them in the right position. I have also the sdame problem with the dot at the end of the sentence. while I want the dot on the left at the end of the sentence the program put it on the right and there is no way to move in the right position
someone knows what can I do? I'm using CS6
    thanks
    roberto

I think you have to use Adobe InDesign Middle Eastern CS6.
    Take a look here:

There is a preference item for clipbaord handling that toggles text ony or formatted text when pating from external applications. You may be pasting unformatted text.
And of course the fonts must be installed...

  • Indesign 2014 - manipulating Arabic text

    Hi All,
We are trying desperately to get Indesign CC 2014 to work with arabic copy, but have cone across some rather fruity issues.
Using the plain text ( copied from text edit ), are inserting arabic text ( arial font ) into a document.
As you will see from the screen grab, the single line world editor is selected.
But as you will also see from the screen grab - the full point on the arabic sentence in at the wrong end of the line - it should read to the left.
This has happened in several files - but we cannot find any solution.
Here is another example...the larger paragraph is set no differently, yet reads correctly. The smaller copy does not.
Strangely enough, the Adobe guide to using Arabic copy in CC, demonstrate menu options that we don't have ( indesign CC 2014 )
It also appear that any type of return ( hard or soft) will affect the orientation of the line - so we took them out and presto! the line read correctly.
But put them back in and the full point skips to the end of the line and make the sentence incorrect.
Can anyone explain what is going on ??
    Thanks in advance
    Everafter13

Sounds like the key here is that you don't have an ME enabled version installed (which has those extra settings for story direction).
If you change the language settings in the CC Desktop App using the Gear icon I believe you should be able to download the Arabic/English version to get what you need.

  • Would InDesign CC6 support Arabic text?

I am using a trial version of InDesign C6 via Creative Cloud in view to purchasing and using it in English/Arabic environment. The Arabic fonts are there but the text is reversed! Any advice is appreciated.

For Indesign CC ME, on Creative Cloud Desktop select Preferences on the top right then select Apps>App Language choose (English Hebrew or English Arabic)
To Install Indesign CS6 ME follow the steps of the link on post 1#

  • What can be done to ensure that the Arabic text normally copied from Word to InDesign?

What can be done to ensure that the Arabic text normally copied from Word to InDesign?
At Word - normal Arabic text.
    At Indesign - wrong.

See copy/pasted hebrew text is backwards and/or search the forum for "Arabic" (it has been asked numerous times before).

please guys I need an answer. To get answers about using iText I use "iText In Action, 2nd edition" by the prime author of iText - Bruno Lowagie.Classic way to make money - make the API free and sell the documentation. Also an honorable way to make money IMO.I was using iText before 2004 when the first edition of the book came out ( 4 years or so after the library was first introduced) and it was hard work. PDF is a very complex document format and just using the Javadoc does not really get you anywhere. There are many 'gotchas' in iText and most of the iText tutorials cover only the very basics and pretty much none of the 'gochas'. The book starts off with very simple examples that could be constructed from the Javadoc but then it does move on to the more complex issues. Worth every penny.

  • How to print Arabic text along with the English in smartform ( ECC6 version

    Hi All,
our is ECC6 version, Non unicode, ABAP stack ( not dual stack )
is it possible to print in Arabic language in the above version ?
if yes, then please let me know how to print Arabic text and English text in the same smartfrom.
i tried in the following procedures :
    1) i created standard text (SO10) in arabic language.
    i called in the smartform ( include text - i )
    langage AR
but system throws error message saying, required language is not installed.
    2) if i use READ_TEXT function module.
text getting printed in diff format but not in arabic.
    waiting for your replies..

ECC6 and Non-Unicode? I think you'll need multiple code pages, I doubt there's a mixed Arabic/Latin1 available. And I don't think SAP supports new MDMP systems any more. If you need to support multiple languages you really need to go Unicode. It's probably easier to do the Unicode conversion than to try to support multiple code pages and you have to make the switch eventually.
