Arabic Writing Problem in Dreamweaver (Right to left)

I was using frontpage till yet now i switchover to
Dreamweaver 8. The only problem i faced is how to type arabic in
Dreamweaver 8 (As arabic is written in Right to Left format). Any
suggestion is highly appreciable. Many people in Middle east are
not using dreamweaver due to this reason.
If their is any extention which can solve this issue please
let us know.

I'm in Israel with the Hebrew "problems".
My DW is set to work with the followings in the Edit >>
preferences Menu:
1. Fonts >> Hebrew (I hope you can choose Arabic).
2. New Document >> Default encoding >> Hebrew
(windows)
(I hope u can choose Arabic (windows).
Usually I type first the text in Notepad or M$-Word, after
then copy and
paste into the DW document.

MS Word for Mac does not yet support Arabic (or various other scripts). You should let MS know that you want that.
I have had reports, however, that PowerPoint and Entourage in MS Office 2008 will do correct Arabic. Could you confirm that for me?
For Arabic the best Mac word processor is Mellel. Others are TextEdit, Nisus Writer, iText Pro, NeoOffice, OpenOffice, StarOffice.

Why does Mail crash when I change the writing direction selection to Right to Left?

Every time I select Hebrew or Arabic text I am currently typing in order to change its writing direction (in order to get the cursor to appear to the left side of the sentence) to Right to Left, Mail crashes. This is obviously a bug in the program, and seriously needs to be fixed ASAP. I have no problem changing the alignment to the right side, but changing the cursor position causes the crash. Has anyone been able to solve this in the meantime?

I have not seen anyone else reporting this problem since 10.8 was released last July, and I cannot duplicate it myself. So it is more likely some issue with your setup than a bug, but further testing is needed to be sure one way or the other.
Could you provide more info on exactly what you are doing when this occurs? Are you typing mixed English/Arabic text? Are you using the Format menu to switch direction or a keyboard shortcut? Are you trying to use Arabic fonts not provided with OS X? A screen shot of what it looks like just before you crash would be helpful (use the camera icon here to upload that).

Making placed Arabic Copy from Word read right to left

I am placing a word document into Indeign that is done in Arabic.
When I place it, it reads from left to right (for example, there is a number that starts each paragraph and it shows up on the left, but should be on the right).
Is there a setting that would let the text read from right to left?

You need one of the following:
Expensive option: InDesign CS4 ME edition or CS5 ME edition
OR
Not-expensive option: InDesign CS4 or CS5 with World Tools installed
OR
Free but barely functional option: InDesign CS4 or CS5 with a script to turn on the World-Ready Composer (which is in CS4 and CS5, but not accessible to normal English-languge installs of ID without a plugin or a script; just search Google for "World-Ready Composer" to learn all about it)
AND
someone literate in Arabic to check your work.
World Tools has all of the numbering/character direction/hanging indent/etc. tools you need, while the scripts to turn on the WRC do not. I am a very happy user of World Tools - it has all of the necessary tools for doing RTL layouts at a very reasonable price point.
Also, I have to point out that my Arabic translation teams have never submitted a translation of a numbered list in English that was still "numbered" in Arabic in Hindi numerals; I've always seen 'em convered to lettered lists. (That is, alef, beh, teh instead of 1, 2, 3.) Stuff like that is why I suggest that you really do need someone to check what you've typeset. Beyond that, if you don't understand my list-advice, you should probably turn over the typesetting of your Arabic who is already an experienced designer/typesetter/formatter/DTPer/whatever in Arabic.

Problem with the right and left Channel

Hey Guys,
i bought a few days ago the X-Fi Titanium PCIe Card. Now my problem:?
After i installed the drivers i noticed that i can hear the sounds of the left speaker also in the right speaker of my Headphone (Sennheiser PC60). I made a channel test and here the same. The guy sais "Left Channel" and i hear it on both speakers. The same with the right channel.
I made a clean restart and uninstalled all Drivers and Applications and reinstalled them: -> Same problem
I made a clean Windows installation (Vista x64): -> Same problem
i tried the Daniel_K-Driver: -> Same problem
Have someone an idea to solve that problem?

When Soundbooth was first developed, it had a few extra things than what were not available in Audition. However, Audition remained the more high end sound editing tool. Soundbooth was locked to a multiple channel editing approach. In Audition, single editing is easy - you simply click the L or R at the right end of the sound channel to lock it and then you can edit the other channel only.
Soundbooth has been discontinued and Audition now has taken its place from CS6 to the Creative Cloud.
The above is some background info. To your current situation, you can use a workaround like:
* Export your audio file to separate channels by File > Export > Channels to mono files.
You will get 2 files with _L and _R suffix.
You can then edit them separately. You can go from Mono to Stereo by the following step.
Or
* Choose - Edit > Insert > Channels into New Multitrack file.
That will separate the Left and Right Channels and add them to a new multitrack file.
You can then click the Edit link at the top right of the channel to edit it.
You can then save that file as a new audio file.

Urgent help required regarding reports Arabic Characters (Right to Left)

I am facing problem while deploying oracle reports on application server (Forms & Reports). I am using Developer Suite 10g 10.1.2.0.2 and same version of Application Server on Windows Environment. I have some fields in Arabic and some are in English. The reports output is in PDF format. I am also using PDF Subset fonts feature to subset the Arabic font problem.
Now the problem which I cannot is that I wanted that PDF generate report read Right to Left only for some specific fields not all fields. For example the following fields displayed as
395/دمام (Actually reading left to right and same saved in database)
But I wanted to be numbers are displayed first and then arabic word (dammam) while reading right to left.
My NLS_settings on developer suite and application server is “AMERICAN_AMERICA.AR8MSWIN1256”
When I am changing the nls_settings to “ARABIC_SAUDI ARABIA.AR8MSWIN1256”. It convert the whole report layout from righ to left and then it is not reading well the English fields i.e. left to right.

The problem was solved by changing
REPORTS_BIDI_ALGORITHM=UNICODE
REPORTS_ARABIC_NUMERAL=ARABIC
But now i have another issue that i wanted to display one filed with REPORTS_ARABIC_NUMERAL=ARABIC and second with REPORTS_ARABIC_NUMERAL=HINDI. During my all search i found that this is applied on Report wise and we cannot set for one filed.
Would any body will help me to change REPORTS_ARABIC_NUMERAL for one field at runtime or design time either changing the registry value or any configuration file of application server ?

1- How can I get more Arabic Fonts with More Decorated style
2- The typing in Arabic should be from right to left and in Pages it's Happining but the typin marker is not doing this so its hard to fix any mistakes in the middel of the paragraph.
- how to change the alignment from left to right (Ctrl + Shift in MO Word) to do the hall text from right to left not only the paragraph Icon

"Many" is an exageration, you can count R to L languages on one hand.
Mostly they are used in countries which try not to pay for their software, and seem to have a pretty shoddy printing industry, so not much incentive for developers.
However Arabic is a major language and Apple should fix the problem.
As Tom suggests try Mellel, which is the best solution on the Mac.
Adobe has ME versions of both Indesign and Photoshop, for which you pay extra. They mostly work well.
MsWord for Windows (not the Mac) does reasonably well, but I have not tried its DTP features with Arabic so can't vouch for how solid they are in Word.

LabVIEW app on OS with Right to Left writing

Colleagues,
Just curious - is it possible to "localize" LabVIEW application to "Right to Left" OS (Arabic, for example)?:
as you can see - minimize/maximize/close buttons and the Title are "swapped" on such OS.
Also menu bar should be on the right side.
Is it possible to get such "look and feel" for LabVIEW-based app (without huge work with building own buttons etc)?

I never noticed that the direction of LV windows is reversed, but that's probably because I work on an English OS and we mandate the same for most of the systems we deploy. I expect that Windows allows apps to override the system default when creating windows and that this is what LV does. I don't know if there are API calls which would allow you to modify that and I wouldn't recommend calling them even if they do exist.
In any case, if I were you I would be worried less about that and more about how the text is going to look when it has non-RTL content in it and what to do if you want to let users enter their own text. In my experience that's the real problem.

Arabic Subtitles (right to left)

hi,
I'm working on a dvd project with 10 subtitle streams - one of them being arabic. When I paste the arabic text into dvd studio - the text is displayed in the wrong direction (left to right). is there a way to change the font direction in dvd studio for a single subtitle track.
I tried to paste the text directly from mellel (text editor with right to left support) with no success. I have imported all other subtitles via stl import with nearly no problems
has anyone already produced a dvd with arabic or hebrew subtitles?

Hi, just got the Microsoft Word app on my iPad mini, great app in my opinion- just would like to know if anyone has a way to switch into right to left orientation just like Pages now has.
So far the only way I could get this to work was by emailing myself a Hebrew document, erasing it all, and writing the new document in its place, which actually really worked, with true formatting and all. Thing is, I wouldn't sign myself up for 10 bucks a month for a half-baked workaround which Pages does perfectly. Otherwise, Word is awesome.
Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks.

I think iPad Word is closer to Mac Word than Win Word. Mac Word, for 13 years now, has been unable to create connected Arabic text, except on a Win Word doc with some Arabic already there. Such problems never arose during two years of using LTR-4 and nothing else has changed on my computer. I have a pretty simple system with only a few plug-ins, which are usually not in operation. I have 12GB of RAM in my Windows 7 PC. I could illustrate these problems with screen shots if you would tell me how to submit screen shots. Otherwise I will try to describe the problems in words.
The problem is clearly cumulative, growing worse as usage time passes. Compare View feature gradually slows down and eventually seems to choke as my work session proceeds. If I Exit LTR and re-enter and start all over, things will work normally for maybe 30 minutes, but then the Compare View feature begins to become very slow to respond. In a recent example with my screen full of thumbnails in Library mode I highlighted two images to compare. LTR started to open the Compare View screen by first having the top row of thumbnails disappear to be replaced by the "SELECT" and "CANDIDATE" words in their spaces (but no images), but Compare View never succeeded in gaining control of the screen. After some seconds the top row of thumbnails reasserted its position and the Compare View windows disappeared. But LTR kept trying to bring them back. Again the top row of thumbnails would go away, Select and candidate would reappear, try again, and give up. This went on for at least 2-3 minutes before I tried to choose File and Exit, but even that did not initially want to respond. It doesn't like to accept other commands when it's trying to open Compare View. Finally it allowed me to exit.
To experiment I created a new catalog of 1100 images. After 30-40 minutes, the Compare View function began to operate very slowly. With left and right side panels visible and two thumbnails highlighted, hitting Compare View can take half a minute before the two mid-size images open in their respective SELECT and CANDIDATE windows. When the side panels are open and two images are in the Select/Candidate spaces, hitting the Tab button to close the side panels produces a very delayed response--25-30 seconds to close them, a few more seconds to enlarge the two images to full size. To reverse the process (i.e., to recall the two side panels), hitting Tab would make the two sides of the screen go black for up to a minute, with no words visible. Eventually the info fields in the panels would open up.
I also created a new user account and imported a folder of 160 images. After half an hour Compare View began mis-placing data. (I have a screen shot to show this.) CANDIDATE appears on the left side of SELECT, whereas it should be on the right. The accompanying camera exposure data appears almost entirely to the left of the mid-screen dividing line. This issue can be solved when you create the reports without needing to write any extra code. I haven't tested this solution because I don't have any data to test it against.First you want to make sure that you are using a UNICODE font which I'm sure you are probably already doing. Then to configure the "Right to Left" you can right click on any field and select "Format Text" or "Format Field". You should see a "Paragraph" tab. In there you can set the content to be "Left to Right" or "Right to Left". The button on the right allows you to make this setting conditional on a parameter value or something like that. Pages v5.5.2 - Missing Option for right-to-left languages (bi-directional) such as Arabic & Kurdish

Started using Pages as Windows for Mac does not support right-to-left languages (Kurdish, Arabic) effectively. BUT, sadly disappointed that Pages does not seem to support right-to-left (bi-directional) text either. I realise it gives you the option of aligning the text to the right-hand side but this is different from having the right-to-left option. Previous posts said it could be found under Format - Text and there should be the option 'Reverse Text Direction' (see related thread here) but in the version I have (v5.5.2) I can't see it.
Please can anyone help? I'm having to seriously think about going back to Windows as Apple doesn't provide sufficient support for right-to-left languages.

Please can some one provide me with online documentation or links with detail steps to create Templates / Themes for pages to be displayed in Arabic language (Right to Left).

I’m afraid these are not really exist. The official documentation doesn’t include Right-To-Left references, and I’m not really familiar with any other on-line documentations that cover this issue. As far as I know, the relevant chapter in my book is the first (and probably the only) time where APEX Right-To-Left development support was covered.
The following thread can give you a hint on how to start (the CSS direction attribute) and why this is not enough. As I said before, Right-To-Left development is fully supported by APEX but it’s not that simple and can’t be covered in a single forum thread. I know I’m bias (as I wrote the book) but if you are serious about developing Right-To-Left APEX applications you should consider purchasing the book. For the long run, it will save you a lot of time (and frustration).
