You can create additoinal OSDs with pre-scripts that change registry licensing settings to have multiple licensed editions without having to recompile the application.
Removing ArcGISConnection.exe from the package will cause the app to boot much faster depending on your internet connection. This is a bug that will be fixed in SP1: http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/61365-Disabling-the-ArcGIS-Online-Connection-in-10.1

Hi Justin,
Your recipe for the Flexnet Service works great. I
can put in the needed configuration in the ArcGis Administrator. Except
the ArcGis complete package (for example ArcMap) does not work under any
circumstances. It just gives the error:
"ArcMap was unable to start. The installation of ArcGIS Desktop is invialid and must be repaired or reinstalled before continuing"
- not before I try to fix the license issues
- not after I try to fix the license issues
- not if i try to fix it with a repair (before or after)
It seems I can not get the actual package working rather than the license server, any thoughts what I am doing wrong?
(I tried both win7 64-bit and win XP 32-bit)

    Hello Shruthi M V,
I'm afraid you need to post this issue to some related forum,
    Both ArcReader Control
http://help.arcgis.com/en/sdk/10.0/java_ao_adf/api/arcobjects/com/esri/arcgis/controls/ArcReaderControl.html and ArcGIS Desktop and Extension License are not Microsoft Products and should not be asked on MSDN.

  • Parallelogram images showing up on exported PDF

I'm exporting a PDF (map) from ArcGIS Desktop.  I've worked with Desktop for quite a number of years, and have exported hundreds of similar PDFs.
During a print test I noticed what appears to be a white band running from one edge of the data frame to another.
When I fire up Acrobat to view the PDF what I find is that the band is made up of two images next to each other.
I went through the original map files but can't find anything that would explain these shapes showing up on the PDF.  For what it's worth, exported jpegs look fine.
This link should take you to a page with a link to the exported PDF.  The red rectangle shows where you can get the images to highlight if you click around a bit.
    Thanks
    Tom

Don't misunderstand.  I'm not blaming Acrobat or Reader at all.  I was just posting in the hope that someone who might have been working with ArcGIS Desktop (or who recognizes these images) could point me to where the images are being created.
I'm assuming I'm doing something wrong, but, as I mentioned, I've worked with GIS Desktop for quite a number of years exporting hundreds of PDFs.  I've never seen this happen before.

  • Uploading bulk data in oracle spatial

    Hi,
I need to upload a map data in (input is ESRI File geodatabase) in Oracle Spatial using ArcSDE.
I have Oracle spatial 10g, ArcGIS desktop 9.3. I am able to connect the oracle spatial data using arcsde and i am able to view those maps in arcmap. Also, i am able to upload small esri shape files in oracle spatial using esri arccatalog through arcsde.
I would like to know, the steps to be followed to upload a road network for North america (around 15gb) data as SDO. If there is any document available it will be more useful for me.
Or pls. share your experience in this.
    Thanks,
    Vadivelan. P

    Yikes,
You won't require 150 gig of undo to load your data with ESRI tools. Noel might need to start a new thread to discuss that issue as his bulk loader may need some tuning. :p
All ESRI bulk loaders use a rather modest auto-commit. ArcCatalog is 1000 records and sdeimport is 2000 records by default. So after loading that many records the tool does a commit and thus avoids much undo at all. You can easily change this number to tune performance (higher for point data, lower for huge honkin' polygons) in the parameters.
At this point I would say the heck with all these torpedoes and give your load a try. You stated in the very first thread that you have loaded shapefiles successfully into Oracle Spatial so the assumption is you have your dbtune keywords setup and are all set with the issues of mapping ESRI coordinate systems into Oracle Spatial. So full steam ahead! Another idea would be to load a small subset of the data and make sure its correct to your needs before doing the whole thing. My opinion is I don't think you need to worry about the 15 gig size of the load. Yes it will take some time to do but I would bet whatever problems you run into are the same you would face with a 15 meg load.
    Cheers and good luck,
    Paul

  • Arc Map Crashes when I try to print to a pdf

Printing to a pdf from Arc Map crashes my .mxd
    Windows 7
Adobe Acrobat XI Pro - demo
    ArcGIS Desktop 10
    Release Version: 10.0
    Service Pak 5
I recently started experiencing Arc Map crashes when printing to pdf using Acrobat 7 Pro
So I uninstalled Acrobat Pro 7
    and
Installed Adobe Acrobat XI Pro demo
Same result I am still crashing when I try to print
Export to pdf still works but export creates a much larger file even after the settings are dumbed down.
Adobe support will not help cause I am using a demo version of Adobe Acrobat XI Pro
I already removed pro7 to avoid conflict
    Please help if you can.
    Thanks

  • OpenAction to nameddest using UNC goes to first page

I successfully got the following to work from ArcGIS Desktop application called ArcMap 10.0
    //myUNC/SpeedZones.pdf ?/A "page=4=OpenActions"
However, now I want to specifically go to a named destination, but the following goes to the first page instead.
    //myUNC/SpeedZones.pdf ?/A "nameddest=BelleTerre30mph=OpenActions"
I saw in another post to set the Editor-Preferences-Internet to "Display PDF in Browser", so I added a checkmark for this option.  What can I do to make it go to the named destination location in my PDF?  Another post stated that the OpenActions will only work with a URL, but I got it to work with the page=.

I guess my syntax was incorrect.  I removed the =OpenActions, and added "&" between my actions.  I got the following syntax to work:
    \\myUNC\SpeedZones.pdf ?/A pagemode=bookmarks&nameddest=Sunset40mph

  • ESRI and MapInfo with Oracle

    Hi,
Has anyone set up an infrastructure that has MapInfo Professional Clients and ESRI Clients (ArcView 9.1) reading the same datasets from an Oracle database. I am getting conflicting information about this. I have been told by one party that if data is stored in Oracle via ArcSDE that then the MapInfo client cannot access the data. Does anyone know if this is the case?
    Thanks,
    Sharyn

To your Q1, A1: Data can be loaded via ArcSDE and accessed with MapInfo Professional. We have been doing this for years. To load the data, we use Safe FME, but that is the expensive way (but very user-friendly), since you have to purchase their top of the line license so you can read and write both Oracle Spatial (SDO_GEOMETRY) and ESRI "geodatabase". We have used many mechanisms to load data into an Oracle Spatial table, and many work quite well, allowing access to the data through ESRI and MapInfo client software. FME is just easier to use, especially if you have lots of tables, many records, or need to frequently add records to your tables.
As for your requirement to have two clients (ArcGIS Desktop and MapInfo) to perform insert, update and delete on the same tables - well - you have a big problem to solve. Its like building a car with two steering wheels, and could become a disaster. ESRI documentation has warnings about setting up this scenario. You will need to keep edits VERY well coordinated. We do not do this - we only edit our data with one client app.

  • Java Hot Spot crashes when trying to start a desktop swing app

I am trying to start a desktop app and it crashes almost immediately
    The system is SUSE SLES11, jdk1.6.0_18 64bit
Since I can run other java apps (Eclipse being one of them) there must be something specific about this app.
    Any suggestions?

  • PhotoShop CS2 Bridge caused strange loss of desktop visibility/memory ??

I have a G5 (Duel) running Tiger 10.4.6. Just lately the Bridge in Photoshop CS2 has not been working too well - it became very slow and sometimes didn't "see" my images. Yesterday I could get it to find my image folders at all. Then all my desktop started to look weird - even when I wasn't using the Bridge. So I closed all the applications and restarted the computer. To my horror all my desktop and preferences (dock, safari, desktop picture, folders etc.) had been lost. At first I thought I had somehow lost all my image folders but using spotlight I found them all there - distribted in places I had never put them. I sorted everything out again and re-did all my customised stuff but it was scary! At no time did the computer give me any warning of any trouble. It did not crash or anything. I was running QuarkXpress 5 (classic 9) as well and had a Skype window open (although I wasn't using it to talk at the time) Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this happened - has it happened to anyone else ? Thanks for any help.. Diana

    Hi jamba,
I think the issue is that your output of lspci shows no Audio device. Perhaps it got disabled in the BIOS? dmesg output may indicate something else afoot with your audio hardware.
    Hope that helps.
I'll check out dmesg output.  also still need to check if something got disabled in the BIOS.
!snd_intel8x0m  <- is your problem. Your sound module got blacklisted so un-list it. Modprobe it then try sound again or just reboot and it should work.
moonswan.  snd_intel8x0 is the sound card (I think), in the alsa wiki it said it was recommended to blacklist snd_intel8x0m as a quirk fix.
No sound with or without it blacklisted still :-(

  • Download error in (osx) adobe desktop app (corrupted download link).

Here is a discription of the problem. Please consider that some of the wording might not be correct, as I do have to translate the error message from German into English.
Using OSX 10.9.2, when clicking inside the adobe desktop app (top of the screen bar) on the tap "apps", the following screen (screenshot) appears, which states, translated from top to bottom:
    download error
    download error. Please contact support.
    (link) contact support
(link/button) download creative cloud -> This button unfortunatly leads to the following error page "http://www.adobe.com/special/errorpages/404.html"
All apps, like Bridge, Photoshop, Lightroom, etc. are installed and work just fine. So no problem here. I seem however unable to redownload the desktop app (in order to reinstall). As stated above the provided link inside the desktop app itself is coruppted and within the (online) web-based download centre (user logged in) I am only adviced to use the desktop app. This is a dead end and I do not know what to make of this error, let alone solving it. Please help!

I am sorry Romsinha but this doesn't really help.
I already restarted the desktop app and while I am obviously online and connected the problem (error message) remains the same. Information within the "home" tap is recieved/loaded  (little blue spinning wheel) stating that various apps recently have been updated. Yet the same loading wheel within the "apps" tap results in an error. My best guess is that some internal link within the app is corrupted, leading to a source on a server that can not be reached.
    UPDATE
I clean uninstalled adobe creative cloud as discribed in the article you provided (using the cleaner tool) and even uninstalled the browser plugin. After downloading and reinstalling creative cloud the problem however remains the same. "Apps" tap still shows the same problem. "Home" tap now displays the following:

We don't know what Apple plans on doing to change this (and it may not be just Apple but more likely the publishers, since Apple would, of course, do whatever it could to maximize sales/profits).  Right now you can only read Apple books on mobile devices. Sure, buy them from Amazon if you want to read them on the computer. We don't work for Apple so we're pretty impartial on this kind of advice.

  • I can't save downloads to documents folder, only to desktop...

Only desktop saves are allowed.  The message states, "Word cannot save or create this file.  This disk may be full or write protected..." The disk isn't full, so I'm not sure what to do.  I'm having to save everything to the desktop and then move files into document folders in Finder.  Any advice on how to save directly to documents or what may be wrong?   Thanks so much!.

    Back up all data now.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. You can demote it back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:20 ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ 2> /dev/null
Be sure to select the whole line by triple-clicking anywhere in it. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar. A text window opens.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window opens. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.
