Arch 0.7 ISO: wrong udev setup?

I recently installed a PC for a friend with the Arch 0.7 ISO. I have 2 questions on the default udev setup.
1) lilo.conf
Our bootloader was lilo. When we changed the udev permissions, our changes were ignored. We solved the problem by appending "devfs=nomount" to our boot line in the lilo.conf (thanks Wiki ). That was missing in the default lilo.conf
Could that option be added to the default lilo.conf?
2) fstab
in the default fstab, sysfs is mounted. On the wiki (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/UdevHowTo) it is said to unmount sysfs.
Which is better: keep sysfs, or unmount it?

Yea, you have to add the "devfs=nomount" part manually. I'm still on the fence on that one, as I don't want to have the defaults break things for kernel 2.4.x users (udev won't work for them, afaik).

Doesn't matter, actually. You can remove it from your /etc/fstab altogether, as it (and /proc) will be explicitly mounted in /etc/rc.sysinit at boot-up.

The location of the folder is at: C:\%UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WebSetup
where %UserProfile% is the user account you downloaded it under (probably your default account) - this is the folder you need to delete.
Once that folder is deleted, run the Windows 8 setup file (found here: http:// windowsdotmicrosoftdotcom/en-US/windows-8/upgrade-product-key-only if
you haven't, like me, already downloaded it 8 different times thinking it was a corrupted file), and it should prompt you at that point for your product key - which is something it wasn't doing for me. After that, you can choose to make it an ISO, run
it normally, run it from USB, etc.
It'd be helpful if Microsoft knew about this... hope it helps...

Wrong Contribute Setup Password

I'm creating a Contribute Connection Key in Contribute 4 and when I send it to a client who's using Contribute 2 and they get this error message after entering the correct password:
You entered the wrong Contribute Setup Password.
You have 2 more times to enter the correct password.
I know for a fact that they are entering the correct password as they're in the next room. Has anyone run across this problem before? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Graphics card broken or wrong bios setup?

I have a point of view gtx 460 768mb Graphics card and at the first time I started my computer it worked, but later that day it just stopped working and i switched to the intergrated graphics thinking that it just needed drivers to work again... But my computer is finished and it still doesn't work. :(
Does anyone now if this is a wrong bios setup or is my graphics card really broken. (The fan on the graphics card is still working.)

We cannot comment on non-MSI products. But the first thing to do is to test your system with a known working power supply.
It could be that your PSU has gone faulty by the sounds of what you are describing.

Magic Trackpad: cannot pair; instructions wrong; no "Setup Bluetooth Trackp

Brand new MacBook Pro 2.66GHz Core i7 running 10.6.3 as received from Apple.
Magic Trackpad instruction book pg 4 is wrong; there is no "Setup Bluetooth Trackpad" button in the Trackpad preferences pane.
Tried using the Keyboard pane; it just keeps spinning looking for a device -- but the power light on the Magic Trackpad does blink during this.
Need the MTrackpad on the left since the computer is on the right & I've ruined my right thumb joint with 20+ years of trackpad use.

I believe MT needed an update to work. Here is the update but note that you must be on 10.6.4 to apply it. If you just do a Software Update and move to 10.6.5, the support is built in.

Arch 0.7 ISO -- Grub Install Bug?

I only encountered two odd issues during the installation of Arch using the 0.7 final ISO. One of them was that when I attempted to install grub to the root partition, the installer only gave me a list of existing partitions up to dev/hda9 as possible options. Although there were several more (including the arch root and home partitions), the list would not scroll down past that hda9 partition.
I submitted to the will of the installer, and instead edited the lilo.conf file by changing the boot directory to boot=/dev/discs/disc0/part12, which is where I would have installed grub if given the option. But lilo installed fine of course using this method and all is well.
I would have preferred grub, but lilo is fine and I am familiar with using it as a bootloader so in the end it's no big deal. I just wondered if this might be a bug in the installer ... or ... horror, an operator error.

That was a bug in the installer. Fixed for the next release.

Arch 0.7 iso package list ?

where can I find a package list for the full Arch 0.7 release ?
In case some has installed (the 600 mg) iso Arch 0.7 , does it contain kde , mplayer, firefox, ?

the "arch" way of installation is to install only base packages, then to install "current" packages to the system from the repositories.
The .7 release is just a snapshot of the repository packages, bundled with an installer and a little magic pixie dust.
That said, I have no idea what packages are included on the cd. Hopefully someone with such knowledge can answer you.

Virus detected by avast antivirus in the arch-0.7.iso file?

i was running avast antivirus for windows when it found a virus in the mailcap package
extract the mailman package..
browse to /home/mailman/tests/msgs/nimda.txt
i suppose that the virus scanner went crazy cause of the title of the file, but is that supposed to happen..?weird..(note: i set the scan to "thorough scan" and "scan within archives")

According to this [URL=http://www.cert.org/advisories/CA-2001-26.html]security advisory[/URL], Nimda was a worm in late 2001. I guess that file in the package is for testing mailman's worm blocking (judging from the filename, I've never seen/used mailman before).

INGESTED DVCPRO HD FOOTAGE IN WRONG "EASY SETUP" - HELP!

OK, this falls under the heading: Just plain stupid. Nevertheless, now I am looking for a fix. I'm new to HD. I shot a short film with a Panasonic HVX-200. I was not going to have to do the post-production and would periodically load the footage into FCP as it was shot just to see how it looked. Then it turned out, I was asked to edit it under a tight deadline. However, when I ingested the footage into FCP I never changed the easy setup. The editing is now done and I wish to output to Digi Beta. But I now see the sequence settings are set for CCIR 601 NTSC! Is there a way to "undo" this and put in the proper setting? Or is the only way to re-ingest and re-edit? This is embarassing. But, hey, we all have to learn. Maybe publishing my error will save someone else down the road! Thanks for any help.

That's very interesting to learn that 601 NTSC is the proper setting for Digibeta. I didn't know that. Here are the exact current sequence settings:

Gosh, I'm trying to remember if I had to render the footage as I dropped it into the timeline. I didn't think so. But now I can't swear to it.
I guess I have (at least) 2 questions: (1) Is there a way to "revert" to the HD format for this sequence now that it's edited? (2) Do I even want to do that if I want to output to digibeta print? What's the best thing to do to obtain a maximum quality digibeta print?
By the way, I just heard this week that the film was accepted into a film festival, so I'm under a dead line to deliver a print, preferrably in digibeta or beta sp format.

CUPS not working, due to wrong udev rules.

I already did a little research and found out that the udev rules aren't working out, i tried to fix it according to this thread

I uninstalled using the utility and deleted any flash related files/folders manually and reinstalled the beta. This did not help.
I ran the uninstaller again and installed the previous verion (9,0,47,0) and all is well again.

So I am trying to hook up a wifi antenna and router to pull a signal in for better hookup and when I turned on asus I must have answered a question wrong on setup so how can I change stuff so I can get iPad and router to work.

So I am trying to hook up a tired net antenna to an asus wifi router so my iPad can have a stronger signal, but when I turned on asus it went to auto window on iPad and I think I must have answered a question wrong. I can not hook up to Internet, can anyone tell me how to configure, or delete asus and start all over.

New X201 with wrong language setup received from Lenovo

I just received my new X201 Thinkpad right from Lenovo and I did bought the Windows 7 Pro French edition but it came with the English edition installed. How can I change the Language? There is not Display Language option in the Region/... Panel. What am I supposed to do to have it in French?

about the only thing you can do with 7 pro is to download a language interface pack. but that won't change everything. your parent language will still be in english. the parent language has to be installed with the OS. 7 ultimate comes with language packs that you can get with windows update. but you can't do that with 7 pro. so, if you want the entire OS to be in french, then i would probably make a phone call to lenovo. coz the OS will have to be reinstalled in french.

When is the next Arch ISO due?

The 08-2009 ISO doesn't seem to like my laptops ethernet but Chakra does pick it up correctly (which I'm guessing uses a later build of Arch?)

I found out a nasty issue that caused fs'es to be mounted in the wrong
order, thus breaking installations.

if you want to test, be sure to install the latest aif from git
experimental branch. ( you can use the aur git package

If you want to build your own iso
pacman -S devtools
mkarchroot /tmp/pichicho base
mkarchroot -r bash /tmp/pichicho
pacman -S git squashfs-tools syslinux devtools cdrkit make
cd /tmp
git clone git://projects.archlinux.org/archiso.git
cd archiso/archiso
make install
cd ../configs/syslinux-iso/
make core-iso
mkarchroot is not needed at all but I recommend it to ensure a clean enviroment

[SOLVED]New Arch Linux ISO Installation Help.

Hi All,
I am trying to install Arch Linux using new ISO. For some reason I am unable to log into Arch Forums on Windows and I am writing this on my tablet. I will add more info (proper quote, etc.) as soon as I am able to log in a laptop browser. That being said I am trying to install Arch using new ISO. Here is what I did.
Partition using cfdisk /, /home , /swap and /boot.
Format all these in ext4.
Create folders in mnt - root, home, swap, boot.
mount partitions in mnt folders.
Pacstrap /mnt base base-devel
Error
ERROR: /mnt is not a mount point!
I install in /mnt/root which probably doesnt touch other partitions like home boot and swap.
I follow other steps on installation wiki and reboot takes me back to windows.
What am I doing wrong?

You don't need a root folder. /mnt is the root mount point. Before you mount boot and home:
mount /dev/sdax /mnt
where "x" is the number of your /root partition.
then
mkdir /mnt/boot
mount /dev/sdax /mnt/boot
mkdir /mnt/home
mount /dev/sdax /mnt/home
(replace "x" in all the /dev/sdax with the correct partitions.)
Error

you should have stopped here and posted or tried to figure out what you did wrong.

Windows Downloaded setup.exe, not iso file.

Well... I just recently bought windows 8, but it downloaded a file called windows8setup.exe -- not an iso. I don't have a windows machine to open the exe, so how can i get the windows iso?

So i guess my question is: How can i get the windows8 iso from the setup.exe without having access to a windows computer.
