Arch checks filesystems at boot, even when on battery

Previously, Arch used to skip fscking on boot when it was on battery. I mean the fscks that are done every x mounts. Now these periodic fscks run whether or not my netbook is on battery. (My /boot is ext2; / and /home are ext4.)
Is this a bug or a feature? Is it better for Arch to proceed with a fsck if there is a risk of the battery running out or to defer a fsck even if there may be filesystem issues?
Is there a way to configure this behaviour? Some of my research suggests this can be set in /etc/e2fsck.conf, but this file does not exist on my system, and I'm not sure if it's applicable to ext4.

Hi,
it looks like e2fsck uses the old /proc/acpi interface which is no longer present in Arch:
http://git.kernel.org/?p=fs/ext2/e2fspr … =HEAD#l247
That interface has been marked as “deprecated” in Linux 2.6.39.
A bug has been reported.

A liquid damaged iPhone 4 can be replaced by Apple for $149.
By the way... and electrical short can be dangerous, creating a fire or explosion hazard. You can see the short that's affecting the flash... It's the short you may not see that's affecting the battery and/or charging circuitry that's the problem.
    Get it replaced.

You can leave the charger plugged in, as you cannot overcharge...charging automatically stops when your battery is full. Once every 2 ~ 3 months, its a good idea to drain the battery to about ~ 40%, then recharge to full. Otherwise, you can charge whenever you like & leave connected whenever you like.
Try to avoid full battery discharges, Lithium batteries don't like that & frequent full discharge/recharge cycles will eventually kill your battery.

I had similar issue with one of the macbooks in the office. Make sure you've got latest firmware installed (run Software Update). This resolved the issue for us instantly (you may need to reboot mac AFTER firmware upgrade for this to work).

  • Cannot boot w520 when on battery after removing power

Ok, so my w520 boots up when the adapter is connected. if i remove the adapter and keep the battery on, it boots. but if i remove the adapter and battery and then put the battery back on, it wont boot. but after that, if i add the adapter, it revives itself.
what is the problem? because i find it annoying if i remove the the battery, the machine wont work anymore and then i  have to get my adapter to revive it
heres some information. i spilt water on the keyboard and then wiped it clean but made a mistake and turn it back on thinking it was fine and left the battery in. (there was no adapter at the time) the machine shutdown after a while so i left it off. but i left the battery inside. i spent a day drying it and it ran normal. this is the first probelm ive encountered since
also, ive dropped my laptop a few times, i was wondering if it was the cause of it randomly shutting down (before water incident) when i picked up the laptop, it would just turn off. sometimes if i put it to sleep and carry it around, it wont resume again. all this happens even when adapter is connected
    also
when i connect the adapter after the machine isnt able to boot, the battery light flashes a few times before the light turns off. what does that mean
so is the motherboard damaged? and about the battery boot problem, is it something inside that damaged or is it the battery?

From my experience with W series machines, I would say something must have shorted out when you spilled water on the machine. Although a drop is also capable of destroying an internal component. Honestly this seems like a hardware issue and very difficult to debug online, I would just file a warranty claim. From my experience with Lenovo Warranty they are very prompt and they will probably end up swapping your board if anything.
Also, if you have the finger print reader enabled, try to power-on the machine using the finger print reader (Option is in BIOS and Windows) and see if that works, it could just be when you spilled water on the keyboard you ruined the power button and its no longer working properly?. Could just require a keyboard swap. (Takes 2 minutes to do it).

The on-device battery meter is 'off sync' with the actual battery charge. There are a couple of ways you can try to repair this...
Leave the device to charge an hours or so, and then, still connected to the charging cable, remove the the battery from the device a few seconds and reinsert it. Watch over the next couple of days to see if the charge and the battery use is in sync.
Roughly every 30 charges, deliberately discharge your battery to 10-15%, and fully charge to 100% afterwards. This will help maintain the accuracy of the “fuel gauge” on the device (your battery meter or scale).
Don’t drain your battery every day to 10-20% of its charge. You can actually expect battery problems by draining the battery. Again, to repeat, top-off your charge during the day whenever convenient – even ten minutes in the car or at your desk will give you an extra 20-25% charge.

  • "Open new windows in a new tab istead" ALWAYS checks itself back on even when I don't want it to...

I do not wish to have tabbed browsing, period! I want ALL links to open in a new window, ALWAYS! Every time I restart Firefox, the box checks itself back on. This has been going on for the past several YEARS. Beyond frustrating. Chrome is looking better and better...

Thank you very much for your effort but this did not work. I restarted in safe mode, disabled all extensions and plug-ins, reverted to default theme, unchecked the box, and restarted - the box was checked again and I am done trying. I suppose I could uninstall and delete preferences but I am not willing to do this when there are other alternatives to this browser. Long time Firefox user gone! If this ever gets fixed (I doubt it will because it's been happening for years), I'll be back. Thanks again!

  • Filesystem check failed on boot

    Hi,
Recently I reinstalled Arch Linux on my laptop (Dell Studio 1737) due to bloating and pacman generally being pretty borked.
For the first few boots it was fine - I installed xorg and xfce, then ran a Pacman -Syu. However, when I reboot, I get the following:
root: clean, XXXX/XXXXXX files, XXXX/XXXXXX blocks
home: clean, XXXX/XXXXXX files, XXXX/XXXXXX blocks
var: clean, XXXX/XXXXXX files, XXXX/XXXXXX blocks
/dev/sda6 is mounted. e2fsck: cannot continue, aborting.
    FILESYSTEM CHECK FAILED
Please repair manually and reboot. Note that the root file system is currently mounted read-only. To remount it read-write type: mount -o remount,rw /
When you exit the maintenance shell the system will reboot automatically.
I have tried removing mtab, fsck (despite it saying the filesystem is mounted, even when umount says it is not), among other "fixes"
    My current setup is
    /dev/sda2: /
    /dev/sda3: swap
    /dev/sda4: /home
    /dev/sda5: /var
/dev/sda6: /usr (this is where the problem occurs)
    Can anybody help?
    Thanks,
    Sam
