Arch crashes! Propably kernel or ati problem
Hello everybody, I have a problem after upgrading to the 2.6.33 kernel. Everything was fine when I used the 2.6.32 with the git versions of ati driver plus radeon_ucode. Now I dont want to use the git versions of ati, because there is kms support in the official repos versions. So I have 2.6.33 kernel with ati drivers + radeon_ucode(otherwise I have white screen running compiz).
Arch crashes randomly, but mostly when watching flash videos or other videos(with smplayer). By saying crashes I mean I get a black screen and I have to reboot manualy.
Check the logs and try UMS mode.

I've been using iMovie for a number of years in all its various versions from about iMovie 4 onwards.
For the past year while I've been using iMovie 9, about once a day my iMac has periodically experienced a crash/freeze/kernel panic - ie the screen goes grey - ie "grey screen of death!", (sometimes with horizontal lines on it at intervals) and the GUI becomes totally non-responsive; when this happens I usually have to cycle the power and do a cold restart. In every instance, my iMovie Project has remained more-or less in tact (perhaps with the most recent change missing, but that's usually easy enough to redo).
Last week, I upgraded iMovie 9 to 11 and I've continued editing for several days and until tonight (fingers crossed) all seemed well - no crashes!
But ealier this evening, while editing, my iMac experienced another crash/froze/kernel panic; on reboot, I discovered that my current Project has disappeared completely from iMovie's Project Library! Using the Finder I can see that it is STILL there on the HD - I can open the .rcproject package and the Project file is inside! I tried double-clicking on the Project file and sure enough iMovie 11 launches, but there is no sign at all of my Project in the Project Library.
How can I recover it so that I can continue editing?
VERY fortunately just yesterday I exported the entire Project as a HD Movie to view on my TiVo, so I've been able to re-import that movie back into iMovie, so I've lost very little. But I have have a number of Projects on the go and I don't want them all to vanish one-by-one!
If THIS is one of the new features of iMovie 11, I want my money back! After receiving a deafening silence to my original post, I contacted the "geniuses" at Apple.
I'll cut to the chase - they could do nothing for me; apparently my Project is probably corrupt and that's why it no longer works. They could offer no tools that I could use to check and correct the corrupted Project, just basically said "tough".
Along the way they suggested that I should trash my iMovie preferences which are found as follows...
Macintosh HD/User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iMovieApp.plist
(Note "User" is whatever you log in as).
Problem was that my iMovie 11 just returned to as it was when it was first installed (without fixing my faulty Project!) Actually, that was a bit of a problem because I could no longer switch my video to my second monitor because the "Viewer on other Display" was no longer the last item under my iMovie's "Window" menu item. It took me a little while to discover that I had to check the "Show Advanced Tools" in the "General" Tab of "iMovie Preferences" for that and other features to become available again.
So, I'm sorry, I have nothing to offer you that shows any promise - apart of course from regularly backing up the Project onto another drive (which is what I now do)! -
We have recently learned of some issues with the new CUDA drivers from Nvidia that cause crashes and kernel panics in some circumstances, including when switching between applications that use the GPU.
See this page for details.Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the third-party developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
Here are some general guidelines. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickYourMac.” First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickyourmac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, email the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickYourMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickYourMac.” If not, open “BrickYourMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase your boot volume and perform a clean reinstallation of OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" that purport to remove software. -
I installed Mavericks yesterday and have now got problems with QuarkXpress 9. Every time I click on an image and try to move it the application crashes. Anyone had similar problems or got any suggestions?
Hi Guys
Updated my 2 imacs to Maverick yesterday. Schoolboy error on my part not checking if there were problems with any programmes before I did.
Quark is now a nightmare with no short term answer on the way. As a Quark user for over 20 years this is just another reason to hold your hands up and say OK Indesign you win I will have to learn how to use you and Quark will be a distant memory.
I am told there will probably be no solution to getting quak 9 running on Maverick and that you will need to update to 10 in about 2-3 weeks to get back to normal. Having spent a few bob on 2 versions of 9.5 only in Feb this year i didn't really want to upgrade yet.
So its cough up to carry on using Quark or learn Indesign.
I have lost faith in Quark as they are quick to send me e-mails asking me to upgrade to this and that version, why didn't they send one out saying do not upgrade to Maverick. Perhaps they know there loyal follwing will uograde to 10 and will generate a nice little bonus before Xmas.
Lots to do today and will now take 10 times longer to do it. Is this 2013 or 1974!!!!!
If anyone hears of a solution please post ASAP -
My iPhone 4S can't support camera 360 apps.Once I open the apps 3 sec it will auto jump out to the home page.Look likes the apps crashed.Isn't my iPhone problem or the apps got bug? Please help me.TQ
Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss) -
Every-time when I want to open my premiere pro project in Audition to work on the audio, Premiere Pro crashes.
What is the problem?
Thank you,

2 hrs & 1.8GB lost as illust CC download crashes. Anyone else have problems with this? (It was completely downloaded & just about to install and then it dropped out)
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't work...
To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...
Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.
Does it work in the new account? -
Unicode and Date fields crash the kernel
Hi,
we ran into a bug in the query parser while testing our system with japanese dates, that crashes the kernel when a date/time/timestamp field is compared to a literal that contains a unicode character.
For instance,
select * from dual where now() = '2011年10月12日'
will crash the kernel (7.7 or 7.8)
Normally the date field should be compared only with strings in ISO format, but we fear some wrongly written query will crash our production database.
Is that a known bug and is there a workaround ?
GuillaumeHi Guillaume,
this is a bug whereas not a known one up to now. We will solve this ASAP and have created an entry in our error database: [1239879|http://maxdb.sap.com/webpts?wptsdetail=yes&ErrorType=0&ErrorID=1239879].
Unfortunately there is no other workaround for this error than not to use UNICODE characters in those queries.
Thank you for reporting.
Best regards,
Steffen -
We have recently learned of some issues with the new CUDA drivers from Nvidia that cause crashes and kernel panics in some circumstances, including when switching between applications that use the GPU.
See this page for details. You are experiencing a page fault (reference to an area outside of what is owned by the software in question) in the AirPort driver, in a Mac OS X kernel that does not have obvious third-party modifications to it.
This should not be happening. Your Mac OS X image may be Bad.
If you do not already have a Trusted Backup, that should be your Top Priority.
If this is a new MacBook, and it is within the first 90 days of ownership, contact telephone support and ask them to help you. They will likely suggest a re-Install, right over the Mac OS X you have in place now. This is intended to do no damage, but you should always have a Backup. -
Hi,
my imac crash with a kernel panic many times per day, many applications are unable to open correctly and the close after 1 or 2 seconds.
I suspect a memory problem but i am not sure. here is the dump of the last crash.
thanks

System crash when gaming (Update: Temperature Problem?)
Hello there
I have a problem: when starting games (Minecraft, Relics of Annorath, Portal, World of Goo tested) my Laptop crashes. The screen gets black and the only possibility to turn it back on is to remove the battery, wait 10 seconds and then reboot. I don't see any error messages, not in the journal and not in the Xorg.0.log. I have a HP 8470w with a Intel i7-3610QM Quad Core and a AMD FirePro M2000 grapics card. I am running kernel 3.10.10-ARCH with fglrx. Is anyone aware of this problem or can help me even just pointing out where to look for the problem? If you need more info, please tell me.

Could these 127°C be the problem? It's getting pretty hot while gaming but 127°C is almost impossible...
Last edited by strix (2013-09-05 09:49:24)temp6, temp7, temp8 are strange.... but because it's impossible reach these temps (+127 and +0) I think those sensors are not used or bad report data
if you think it's a overheating problem, you must log temps (sensord+rrdtool)
so you'll get the latest temps before the PC crashes -
Radeon & Kernel 2.6 Problem
Hey all,
To start, i've been running arch for a few months now, and loving it. Haven't posted much on the forums though, but starting today i'd like to change that.
I have, since initially installing, been playing around with trying to get my radeon 9200SE videocard working at 100%, but right now glxgears only comes out at about 200fps.
Here's the issue:
I can get the fglrx driver to compile & install (using the wiki on creating the packages in 2.6).
I am running a customized 2.6.9 kernel as some other hardware i have requires 2.6.9 or lower at the moment (waiting on better drivers).
So, I can get the fglrx to modprobe, and can start xorg 6.8.2-2 just fine. I have also been over the Xorg.0.log file, and found no errors anywhere, by all accounts it should be working properly.
BUT
as soon as i run fglrxinfo, i find out the MESA drivers are what's running. I have tried new kernal compiles, including cutting out kernel DRM support completely, but that didn't change anything.
As of right now, the kernel has agp and drm compiled as modules.
I have also resorted to wiping the entire system and starting fresh, which is where I am now. Basically, i have xorg, enlightenment WM, and firefox on the system right now. I was hoping the wipe would correct whatever problem is causing this to happen, but it didn't.
I have also read that it may be my Xorg 6.8.2, but the fglrx drivers i used during the install (latest) claim to be FOR 6.8.x, so i figured that shouldn't be a problem anymore. Plus, i can't find a package for the earlier Xorg 6.7.x, so i haven't tried it.
I hope this all makes sense, cause i'm completely stumped on this one...
The following post will contain all log files and info i can track down on how the system currently sits.
If there is anyone that has seen or heard of this, or anyone who could take a minute and look over my logs/config files and see if there's something simple i'm missing, i would REALLY appreciate it.
TIA,
-s_mCard: ATI Radeon 9200SE
Kernel: 2.6.9 from kernel.org, with some scsi driver patches. Current kernel has both DRM and AGP compiled as module.

Nvidia-Beta drivers crash with Kernel 3.18.2
After the upgrade to kernel 3.18.2 I recompiled the NVIDIA-Beta drivers to discover that crashes in the kernel. Has anyone got any ideas on how to rectify this issue or have had similar problems?

Xorg/system crashing, nvidia & kernel 2.6.39.1
After starting my computer everything crashes within a few minutes while I'm doing something - cursor stalls and I'm unable to get back to the framebuffer.
I tried newest nvidia drivers and nvidia-173xx - same problem.
This is the log from the crash I was able to get from /var/log/messages.log after reboot:
