Arch logging errors (/var/logs)

i got two problems i'd like to solve maybe their cause is the same.
first: is global arch logging. that's my ls -l of /var/log/

second: i got errors from cron if i do run-cron /etc/cron.daily/ related to log files:

looks like the files r corrupted or something. please help find out the reasons and fix things up.

I think it has to do with the group log having write permissions...

    Thank you,
-peteYou can change the location of the weblogic.log file by setting weblogic.system.logFile
to be wherever you want is to go.
    ex. weblogic.system.logFile=/var/logs/weblogic.log
    Hope it helps

  • Redirecting Weblogic Logs to /var/log/messages

    Hi all,
I've seen a few threads on here regarding this but they're all for older WLS versions.  I'm trying to get my server messages into /var/log/messages.
I've seen and read a few posts about this and using log4j.  I've added the necessary jars to the domain/lib folder and created a log4j.properties file and its the latter part I think is the issue....
I've tried adding it to the setDomain.sh CLASSPATH and the also to the servers classpath in the WLS Console, however I can't see any record of it getting picked up in the logs.
The server is set to log4j and I've confirmed this using WLST.  Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Weblogic is version 11.1.1.7
    Thanks
    Dave

    There could be two reasons:
    1. You have to exit GGSCI and restart again for GLOBALS changes to take effect, which you may not have done.
    2. you might still be using SYSLOG in manager parameter file which overrides the GLOBALS setting as per the below explaination from Oracle.
"You can use SYSLOG as a GLOBALS or Manager parameter, or both. When present in the GLOBALS parameter file, it controls message filtering for all of the Oracle GoldenGate processes on the system. When present in the Manager parameter file, it controls message filtering only for the Manager process. If used in both the GLOBALS and Manager parameter files, the Manager setting overrides the GLOBALS setting for the Manager process."

  • GDM no logging to /var/log complains

I have a simple warning coming up:
gdm-binary[pidnum]: WARNING: gdn_config_parse: Logdir /var/log/gdm does not exist or isn't a directory. Using ServAuthDir /var/lib/gdm
Now if I create that directory and restart gdm everyone is happy. But since I use tmpfs to mount /var/log - Its a netbook, I dont want to log the drive to death ;-) it complains everytime it boots. I wouldnt mind if it went ahead and created its logdir but for some reason it doesnt.
Is there anyway to stop gdm from even writing logs? syslog isnt running as a demon on the box.
    Thanks,

I am using the innitab method
    the line is :
    x:5:respawn:/usr/sbin/gdm -nodaemon
I could dump all output to /dev/null but thats ugly. I'd rather get rid of the loggin entirely

  • [Solved] X logging to slim.log

I went to bed after a night of playing Minecraft (using the AUR package) on the reddit minecraft server and awake to find that my root (/) partition was basically full. I went digging around and found that my /var/log/slim.log was 9.4G and when I opened it, it was full of Minecraft server logs. Mostly errors saying "Attempted to place a tile entity where there was no entity tile!" (common minecraft errors). I emptied the file, but I'm still oblivious as to why there were minecraft logs in the slim.log file. I'm posting this just to see if any other Minecraft players that use slim could see if they also have their logs there.
edit: Now there is also Mumble (the VoIP software) logs in slim.log. This is really freaking me out that multiple applications are being logged to slim's logfile.
edit: Okay, MANY different applications are now logging to slim.log. I think I'll try a reboot. Moderators, please move this to the correct subforum.

Do you have an .xsession_errors file in your home directory?
I think with slim all xsession related messages are logged in /var/log/slim.log instead.
So that would include most applications that you usually run in xorg.
If that's a problem look up the configuration for slim. there is a logfile parameter.

  • SAP xMII Log/ SQL transaction Log

We have an application where we are inserting data from a PLC to the SQL Server using the xMII.
The SQL server no. of times gives the Transaction Log Full error.
This causes the error any data insertion  or deletion in SQL
In tern the xMII logs error, the log file for a day (in the Lighthammer\Logs\cms.log)is seen as large as 15 GB.
We are not able to open such a huge file...
Moreover we are unable to know if there are anyu other errors other than due to the SQL logged by xMII
How can we see the Log created by xMII, this will help us in troubleshooting .

    Hi All,
    Thanks for the help.
    Ryan,
I have resolved the issue of transaction log by archiving the Log at increased frequency.
    Jeremy,
We are required to have the PLC data in SQL as the Customer wants to have that and they do not have any other database, SCADA  etc.
The SQL server logs (consolidates) not only the PLC data but  data from some other devices as well
Moreover this is data then used for confirming the production to SAP and maintaining the status of the confirmation. This also involves queuing of the data in SQL if the data is not confirmed to SAP for any reason.
We are not logging the data every minute, The data is logged depending on a batch completion, shift completion etc.
Hope this clarifies, let us know your comments.

  • ICal doesn't show delegation, and generates date and time error messages in /var/log/system.log

I have a problem with my iCal, when I use my caldav account, I can only see my own calendar on my MBA, on my co-workers MBP it works fine with both my account and his. My co-worker can't see other calendars than his own when he uses iCal on my laptop.
We can reproduce this problem on his computer by setting Location to Automatic rather than Amsterdam, then after deleting iCal's cache files, the caldav account and setting the Location back to Amsterdam solves the problem for him.
It does not solve the problem for me (or several other co-workers). We've been looking at this for a few weeks, and we can not find any clear pattern why certain machines have this problem and others don't.
All machines (both affected and unaffected) are running Mac OS 10.7.2 with iCal 5.0.1
I've spoken to Apple support over the phone (in the Netherlands), unfortunately, they couldn't help with this.
So far we've tried numerous location and language settings, but on affected machines nothing appears to solve the delegation problem (which we assume to be connected to the error messages iCal generates)
Starting iCal yeilds the following error messages in /var/log/system.log:

    Hi,
    #h1:35:respawn:/etc/init.d/init.cssd run >/dev/null 2>&1 </dev/null
by commenting above line in initttab file would stop messaging, is this would have any adverse affect on the database. As its a production server, so i am really taking time to resolve it. Your suggestions are welcome. If there is no harm in commenting the above line then i would go forward to comment that line.
    Thanks

  • Errors in /var/log/alf.log?

When I look in /var/log/alf.log all I see is entries like this:
    SecCodeCreateWithPID error:: No such process
    What does it mean?
socketfilterfw shows up in the Activity Monitor, so it appears that Apple's application firewall is not completely dead. How would I best test whether it is functioning properly?

    1) lxdm is in /usr/sbin
    [dean@PsyMadness ~]$ which lxdm
    /usr/sbin/lxdm
    2) AFAIK lxdm does not use .xinitrc
edit: Maybe you are trying to run /usr/bin/lxdm (which doesn't exist) in inittab and the correct one in DAEMONS in rc.conf

upgrading to osx 10.6.8 fails. I see errors in the /var/log/install.log of "An unexpected error occurred while moving files to the final destination." Underlying Error=(Error Domain=NSPOSIXErrorDomain Code=5 "The operation couldn’t be completed. Input/out. Any thoughts on what is causing these errors and the upgrade failure?
    Thanks

I have no idea what the specific error code means but input/output errors can sometimes mean a disk is failing. Make a couple of backups of all important data before doing anything else.
Verify your startup disk using the First Aid tab in Disk Utility. If the disk needs repair boot from your Leopard DVD and repair your disk from Disk Utility under Utilities on the screen after you choose your language. Repeat the repair process until Disk Utility reports all is well.
If Disk Utility doesn't find any errors you might want to try a new download of the update and keep a sharp eye on your HD for anything else that might indicate all is not well. Take special care to back up important data.
If Disk Utility finds errors it would probably be a good idea to pay a visit to the Apple Store to have them check out your hard drive even if Disk Utility is able to repair the errors.

  • Sony ereader error in /var/log/system.log

I have had a sony ereader software installed which I deleted long time ago (by pressing command-delete from applications). But still getting error in /var/log/system.log
    [0x0-0xf00f].com.sony.ebook.readerlibrarylauncher[276]: MacInterfacesChangedCallback: 1 keys changed
I have these two items in the /Library/
    /Library//LaunchAgents/com.sony.ReaderDesktop.RunReaderDesktop.plist
    /Library//LaunchAgents/com.sony.ReaderLibrary.RunReaderLibrary.plist
Not sure if I need to delete them.
The sony ereader software doesn't start during system startup. I have deleted two unticked entry from sysetm preferences - users and groups - login items.
    Thanks.

I don't use my eReader very often and so a while back I figured out how to do this and today I had forgotten how!! So here's to help you and I and every other dummy who keeps forgetting!
        Sony eReader with Mac:
How to put ebooks on reader when Error appears
    1. First you buy your ebook(s) and download it to your Reader Library.
    2. It goes to Status then into your Library.
    3. Now go to Finder your book should be in the recent/Today section in epub form.
    4. Open another Finder by going to File and New Finder Window.
    5. In the new Window open Reader under devices.
    6. Continue opening database/media/books.
    7. Finally take the new ebook from the first Window and put it in the second Window.
    8. DONE! And ENJOY!!

Can anyone please tell me how to fix these issues.
