Arch logo wallpapers -- 1920x1080

Hi,
I'm a new Arch user, and thought I'd share wallpapers I created using Gimp and Arch! The logos featured in these wallpapers are from the archlinux-artwork package in the repos. BTW some of the thumbnails aren't very clear, so you may need to click to see it properly.

Welcome to Arch!
Thanks for the wallpapers..just nabbed '..arch7..' for myself. I've been looking for something nice and Archey to go along with Awesome WM's 'Strict' theme!
Any who, feel free to ask the mighty Arch community for any and all sorts of help..that is if the answers to you're questions don't already exist in the wiki/forum!

  • How can I get the arch logo in console/terminal during boot?

    Hello
I just installed arch as my first linux, and I would like to get the arch logo in the top left corner during boot, like on the following screenshot:
    http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y132/s … h_boot.png
    uname  -a:
    Linux 3.6.6.1-ARCH #1
    syslinux bootloader
    How can I do that?
    Thanks a lot and greetings

I'm not sure what's the situation now, but you may not get the logo - neither the penguin nor Arch logo:

  • Replace the arch logo in the framebuffer during boot?

since the tango version of the arch logo http://www.archlinux.org/media/logo.png is also used on the homepage and since it looks better than the currently used (IMHO ), i would like to know how people would think about replacing the current icon during bootup: http://www.archlinux.org/logos/archlinux_logo_aqua.png with the tango version?
i think it would look better.

Yeah, I know and it's what I'm using right now
What I meant was why not using fbsplash/gensplash/splashy with a arch-based theme (from 800x600 till 1900x1200 or similar resolution to satisfy everybody needs) by default? Why only a little logo when you can have better resolution and a nicer without-X look?
Obviously with the beyond and/or the vanilla kernel.
Not everyone wants a graphical bootup. And some cards don't support framebuffer and throw error messages. My card did this until kernel 2.6.18.

  • Gnome panel foot logo--arch logo

it used to be that if you wanted your gnome panel to have the arch logo rather than the foot logo you would replace /opt/gnome/share/piximaps/gnome-logo-icon-transparent.png with the archlogo, this is no longer the case. (as of gnome 2.16 afaik) can anyone help me on this. I am getting a little sick of the foot

  • Xdm-arch-logo theme for xdm

    Hi,
Quick announcement to say I forked the xdm-arch-theme by Xappe & the-isz to create xdm-arch-logo.
The original idea developed in this forum thread: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=69299
I've forked and renamed it because:
        a) The directory structure was too complex (compared with xdm-archlinux - now in community)
        b) Installed directory names did not match the package named leading to (my) confusion
        c) I could never remember which xdm arch theme was the decent one with the official logo
I also added support for systemd service.
    AUR Package: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/xdm-arch-logo/
    Github: https://github.com/jwm-art-net/xdm-arch-logo/
    Screenshot: https://github.com/jwm-art-net/xdm-arch-logo/wiki
This is the one that should be in community, not that horrible sky blue/cyan one!
    Thanks Xappe & the-isz

I know those themes. but I don't like them. Their style and colors are too similar, and they are often too complicated.
I read about writing your own themes (that's how I did the uzbl one), but it cost me a lot of time, which I would rather not invest now.
And since I will present an Arch related presentation on Archcon, I want an Arch theme

  • Arch logo not appearing when booting

Hi guys I know this is probably for most of you not a problem but I like the logos and want them to have at boot up
    So here is my situation:
I have a Samsung N150 netbook with an Intel Atom N450 Core, a GMA3150 Accelerator and a display that supports a resolution up to 1024x600 (although it is possible under windows to put it on 1024x768 too but its not made for that and doesnt look good)
I am using grub and I have read that you need to use the frambuffer to be able to see the logos (with the parameter vga=...). However this doesnt make the logos appear, here is the vga setting that I put in the kernel line: vga=789
He also supports only a maximum solution of 800x600 when booting with grub (is there a way to make it with 1024x600?), after udev starts he sets the display resolution to 1024x600. still the logos are not there
The netbook that I had before this one (acer aspire one) did show the logos and it had a very similar hardware (atom core, gma3xxx accelerator) so I think it should be possible with this one too..
any idea what I can do?

Yes, it's the same logo. No, it's unlikely to be coming back.

  • New Arch Logo - Kernel Boot

Well I made a Arch Kernel Boot Logo using the new logo (in knoppix as netpbm is broken in arch)
It is kinda fuzzy on the edges, I'll try to see if its possible to fix up hopefully this weekend.
    Get it here: http://mezoko.net/stuff/arch/logo_arch_clut224.ppm
    How to install:
Just download this package (i686), I used the pkgbuild from aur, I just replaced logo_linux_clut224.ppm with mine: http://mezoko.net/stuff/arch/kernel26-2 … pkg.tar.gz
    From source:
    -Way 1-
    1) Run abs
    2) cd /var/abs/base/kernel26
    3) Replace logo_linux_clut224.ppm with logo_arch_clut224.ppm
    4) Run makepkg
    -Way 2-
    1) cd /usr/src/linux/drivers/video/logo/
    2) Replace logo_linux_clut224.ppm with logo_arch_clut224.ppm
    3) Compile kernel as normal
    -Way 3-
    1) More official if you have your own kernel source (adds logo to kernel tree)
    2) Read: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Linux_Logo … o_it_Right
P.S. if someone could fix the netpbm package, as it lacks

  • [solved! :D] Updated Arch logos for the merch?

I was thinking the other day about how much Arch has done for me and I decided I'd make a donation and buy a t-shirt, but I noticed that all the merch is still using the old logo!  Any chance one of you guys in the Arch hierarchy (no pun intended) could update the merch so I could get a new-logo shirt?
Oh and by the way, just a suggestion - it might be a good idea to keep the old logo available too for people that like those, I know cafepress doesn't mind a lot of stuff on the site and all

  • I just repainted my notebook, with added Arch logo :)

I decided to get rid of this boring Dell look, repaint my laptop and stick my most favourite linux distributions logo on it Here's how it went (clicky pictures):
    Disassembling...
    Stupid Dell logo, begone!
Filling the hole in the cover:
    A bit of grinding:
    Before...
    ...in between...
    ...and after:
    Making masks...
    Ready to be painted:
    Done!
    Ain't it a beauty?
With a nice little logo under the display:
Well, this was a day well spent!
I wonder how well the paint will stick. I fear it will come off with time, especially on the palm rests and the buttons. I didn't paint the touchpad and it doesn't look bad...

elmer_42, mikesd: I used acrylic paint. I found both sprays in the car section of the hardware store, and they were almost double the price from similar colors in the normal paint section. Both are labeled 'metallic'. This paint dries really fast. it's dry to the touch after 20 minutes. On a piece that isn't visible from the outside, I tried scratching it, and it came off like a layer of skin. So it dries, becomes flexible and then hardens. It's not like those types of "dusty" colors.
I also think that the color will definitely wear off on the palm rests and the buttons, maybe the lid as well. I didn't have enough black colour and I only painted it with primer and one layer of color. If the color wears off, I'll just redo everything but with primer, two layers of color and a finishing layer of clear coat, as it's the right way to do.
Taking apart the laptop takes less than half an hour, so it's not a hard job redoing it.
I actually wanted to use two different shades of blue for the logo, making the top part lighter like in the crystal icons theme, but I didn't find an appropriate shade of light blue. But I feel like it looks really nice as it is now. The metallic blue is *really* shiny, and on a test run I had some trouble getting a nice distribution of the silver particles:
Looking at the cardboard stencil I used for this test, it's even more obvious that the paint shows some odd distribution behaviour:
Using the adhesive foil stencil and spraying the black coating instead of the newspaper worked though as the paint doesn't suck the paint.

  • Arch Linux Logo Competition

    Hello everyone!
As you may have heard, the Arch logo as we know it is going the way of the dodo!  We are refreshing our graphical identity, and in that spirit we're having a logo competition, open to the entire Arch community!
We want to know what you think of when you think Arch Linux - what logo do you think would best suit the distribution we've all come to love?
    Submission guidelines are as follows:
. Anyone can submit as many logo concepts as they wish
. Entry is freeform, with no need to base it on current logo. Be creative!
. For the sake of moving the competition along, artists will maintain the rights to their works until the completion of the competition, when we've decided what to do with license issues.
    Per submission, you will need:
. SVG sources for logo preferred.  If you don't know how to make SVG logos, but have a great idea, visit this thread; foxbunny has graciously stepped up to help with logo concepts.
. Fill out the following on this submission sheet (courtesy of foxbunny)
    .. Name (or alias)
.. Main logo areas (white/black/neutral BG)
    .. 2-colour or Black version
    .. 128x128px and 16x16px icon version
    .. Colour palette used
All other fields are optional - you do not need them to create a submission, and omission of those options will not count negatively against you.
Submit completed submission sheet attached in an email to travis AT archlinux.org. They will be posted in this thread; two weeks after the date of this post, we will collect all submissions in that thread and judge.
Judging will be the job of the Developers, and will proceed as follows:
All submissions will be posted to the [arch-dev] private mailing list, and developers will give their +1 to those logos they like.  They may add a +1 to more than one submission - once all developers are accounted for, the logo with the most +1 votes will win.
Should multiple logo submissions tie for first place, those entries will be announced to the community, and we will have a community vote on the forums. The logo voted highest in this case will be the winner.
Additionally, we'll want to use the logo for additional media - CD labels or wallpapers, for example. If the winning author hasn't provided any, they will be given a chance after the competition is over to create this artwork, if they want.  Basically, no need to get it done before the judging, if you want to do it, so don't worry!
Please note: there are also threads for logo concept discussion and for showing off possible concepts, without entering them into the competition.  Feel free to make use of them.
Good luck to all participants, and have fun!
NOTE: There has been some recent concern about entries by developers, since it is the developers themselves voting.  This was never forbidden at the beginning of the contest, and so the rules will not be modified for this halfway through; developer entries are allowed, and will be treated on exactly equal merit as any other entry.  Rest-assured, there is no reason for favouritism in this contest - if we wanted an explicitly developer-made logo, we would have simply done so, so there's no reason to choose a dev's submission simply because they are a dev.
