Arch Mirrors Down?

I've been trying to upgrade my system using pacman but the main arch mirror was not responding. I went through other mirrors listed in /etc/pacman.d/current but none of them seem to be responding either, though my network connection is working fine otherwise.
What the hell is going on?

Same problem here, no idea what's going on.
This is UK, 23:23 GMT if it's any help. What a pain in the ass.

Questions on running an Arch Mirror
Does anyone here run a public arch mirror that can give me any idea of bandwith they use ?
Is there any issues with running the Current and Extra mirrors in the US ?
Is there any issues with running the Community mirror in the US ?
Mostly I would like to know what bandwidth consumption on a public mirror is for the mirrors that are normally used.  Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think he would mind this info being posted... i emailed him asking for the bandwidth info for the server for a one month period.... an average.......
    - we dont have
a record of actual data transferred, just the amount requested (which
    stands at 5440.17 GB).
My server only allows approx 2500 GB transfer per month... so, until i can find a way to upgrade that, I won't make it a public server.... if i did, i'd owe WAY too much money at the end of every month

  • ARCH shutting down

    Hi,
Today I was checking alert log of Oracle 10.2.0.2 instance and I noticed that after database startup archiver is stopped. That's what is written in alert log.
Database is in archive log mode and archive logs are generated but in the alert log I can found the following messages:

Does anybody know why are messages about stoping archival in alert log even if archive logs are generated?
    regards,

Parameter log_archive_max_processes was set to 2. So two archival processes
were started at database startup. One was shut down because it was not needed.
That was the reason for the followin messages in alert log:

  • Arch mirror to new drive [solved]

Hi guys, a newbie question here.
I wish move my current arch installation to a brand new drive using Clonezilla but the operation wasn't 100% successful. The mirroring operation from the old drive to the new one didn't give me any problems but I cannot boot into the new system. Grub lets me choose operating system (Arch or centos) but shortly after it gets stuck, throwing errors like: "failed to parse block device name for /dev/sda1".
I've tried editing my menu.lst by mounting the partition via Arch live-cd (but I don't really see why I have to change anything at all). The menu.lst file looks exactly the same as my old/current Arch's ditto. I also tried changing the UUID in root=/dev/uuid etc into root=/dev/sda1 but no joy. A desperate and probably long shot solution (at least in my mind!) was to generate a new mkinitcpio but that failed too saying it cannot find /boot/grub/kernel26 etc.
    Did I miss something?
The reason for me wanting to move my Arch installation is that my Seagate is way too loud. The new drive is from Samsung. Same size. Supposedly quieter.
    Any ideas?
Edit: the mkinitcpio is untouched, it's supposed to find all pata, scsi, sata etc.
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the tip. Will give it a try when I get back home today.
Possibly the mkinitcpio command didn't work as it should since I couldn't chroot into the new drive's partition for some reason (following the Arch Wiki, how to chroot). But I have to give it another shot checking out Blazercist's how-to.
"Anyhow this is basically what needs to be done to correct the problem.
    1. Boot ArchLive
    2. mkdir /media/disk
    3. mount /dev/sdxX /media/disk
    4. chroot /media/disk
    5. mkinitcpio -k 2.6.28-ARCH -g /boot/kernel26.img
    6. nano /boot/grub/menu.lst
    7. Replace any references to UUID with /dev/sdxX (where xX represents your drive and partition) instead, save and exit nano.
    8. reboot
Make sure and pay attention to the output of the mkinitcpio command in my step 5. If there are any errors relating to one or more of the hooks you'll need to edit /etc/mkinitcpio.conf and remove the hook it complains about !!IF POSSIBLE!!.  I for example had some problem with the autodetect hook which caused my regular kernel to fail to create an image.
If mkinicpio doesn't complain and tells you it SUCCEEDED generating the images then you should be good to go."

  • Setting up an Arch mirror

Am i a bit confused? I can't find any documentation related to how to setting up a mirror for Arch.
Can someone explain these steps or has a documentation for that? Would be nice.
    Thanks.

Well. Thanks Chris. But that isn't in any documentation, or?

    Hello,
I'm having the same problem, getting for the most of the repositories nearby my location a "Service not available, closing control connection". I used the aria2 method given in "Improve Pacman performance" in the wiki (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Imp … erformance), and it works now very well. What was curious, is that to install a single file, pacman alone works very well, but to make an update on the entire system, pacman just seem to be thrown out by the server after some 1-4 connections. So my question is : what is pacman doing that is not allowed by the servers ?

    thanks,
yeah, we should have swedish mirror also,
i wonder if it's possible to get arch on sunet?

This mirror (ftp://locke.suu.edu/linux/dist/archlinux/) has been down the past couple days. Not sure if developers want this reported or if this is even the right place but I figured at worst I'll get an earful.

That link demonstrates why I use mirror.pacific.net.au...  It gets updates 1 day before they come out.  From now on I am going to just think "I will update that packages in community tomorrow", then go to that mirror and download the already built package.  Not sure how I will update the PKGBUILD though...  we should mirror them too!

  • Arch Mirrors Layout

    Hi:
I'm trying to set up a mirror of your server in order to provide arch pakages to my community and I have a question.
Since I saw this mail list message I thought there's no reason for having a folder named 'any' under every repo folder.
Is there any hidden reason for this or it is just cause not every package has migrated to the new layout yet ?
    Thxs.

in pool/packages are uploaded packages from core/extra/testing/gnome-unstable/kde-unstable/staging and in pool/community the rest.
Now when the same version of the package is moved to core, the package is not re-uploaded, just the link moved eh ?
    Am I right ?
you are correct. that was the whole point of implementing a pool directory. mirrors sync the actually package once and on move, they sync only the symlinks

Can some users in India tell me which might be a good mirror to use. I used to get amazing speeds from a few US mirrors when I was in the US. I am trying to set this up for my parents here in India so that they can have good speeds.

Ok I tried the rankmirrors and also replaced the mirrorlist with the new one that was generated. But it still does not help. I tried updating the system today and it had to download about 111 MB worth of data and its been 3 hours now and it still hasnt finished. I am not sure if its a problem at the mirrors or my machine.
Locally the applications start up pretty quickly so my machine is not lagging in that regards.
    What could be the issue?

  • Arch shuts down on screensaver

    Hello
So yesterday 11/19/14 I did a full system upgrade. So now I am having an issue when my screensaver is activated. After a few minutes on the screen saver, maybe less, my laptop shuts down. I am using xscreensaver and xfce. I am not too sure what to do to try to diagnose the problem. Any help would be great. Thanks.

So this is what I have found in the journal these seemed to have occured about when a shutdown happened

    Ryujin,
    Thanks again!
The reason rsync is nice, it supports a --delete flag (if I've missed something in 'man wget', please let me know).
    Try 'help mirror' in lftp.

  • Arch linux doesn't boot after installing AMD ATI Catalyst

I have a laptop which has a integrated graphic card intel 4th generation (4600) and an AMD ATI R9 m265x (hybrid Intel/AMD graphics card) so I have just installed AMD ATI Catalyst proprietary ones by following
    AMD Catalyst ArchWiki.
I have used "Installing from the unofficial repository" method so in my pacman.conf I have added below entry for [catalyst-stable]:
    [catalyst-stable]
    Server = http://catalyst.wirephire.com/repo/catalyst/$arch
    ## Mirrors, if the primary server does not work or is too slow:
    #Server = http://70.239.162.206/catalyst-mirror/repo/catalyst/$arch
    #Server = http://mirror.rts-informatique.fr/archlinux-catalyst/repo/catalyst/$arch
    #Server = http://mirror.hactar.bz/Vi0L0/catalyst/$arch
Then I have update pacman's database and install below packages:
    catalyst-hook
    catalyst-utils-pxp
    lib32-catalyst-utils-pxp
(No need to install catalyst-total-pxp as I have installed catalyst-utils-pxp)
After installing it, I have configured the driver, configuring X using below command:
    # aticonfig --initial
In order to use PowerXpress support I have installed catalyst-utils-pxp package plus additional lib32-catalyst-utils-pxp.
To perform a switch into Intel's IGP I have also installed the mesa-libgl  package and Intel's drivers: xf86-video-intel  and intel-dri .
I have enable the automatic update by enabling the catalyst-hook.service with below commands since it automatically rebuilds the fglrx modules while the system shuts down or reboots (so I haven't to do it manually each time kernel is updated using Catalyst-generator):
    # systemctl enable catalyst-hook
    # systemctl start catalyst-hook
And finally I have blacklisted radeon module by creating "/etc/modprobe.d/blacklisted.conf" file which content is:
    blacklist radeon
and also I have ensured that fglrx line is added in "/etc/modules-load.d/Catalyst.conf" file.
To avoid problems, I have rebuilt the fglrx module by doing (I know it is not necessary as it is done by catalyst-hook):
    catalyst_build_module all
Once I reboot, arch linux does not boot. Last lines printed out are below and then it freezes:
Starting temp files linker to catalyst...
    Starting Catalyst event Daemon...
[ OK ] Started Catalyst event Daemon
Starting Catalyst's fglrx kernel' module builder...
[ OK ] Started temp files linker for catalyst.
[ OK ] Started Catalyst's fglrx kernel' modue builder.
[ OK ] Started gnome Display manager.
[ OK ] Started Network manager.
    [ OK ] Reached target Multi-User system.
[ OK ] Reached target Graphical Interface.
[ OK ] Reached target Network.
I have tried to put nomodeset as a kernel parameter but it does not work. Also, after reading ArchWiki, I have noticed that it is recommended to don't do this as I am using catalyst-utils-pxp because intel driver needs it so I have removed nomodeset parameter from kernel but It continues not working.
    Any ideas?
    Package versions:
    Kernel version 3.17.6-1-ARCH
    catalyst-hook 14.12-1
    catalyst-utils-pxp 14.12-1
    lib32-catalyst-utils-pxp 14.12-1
    xorg-server 1.16.2.901-1
    xf86-video-intel 2.99.916-3

FInally I managed to boot arch linux.
    I had to downgrade xorg-server from 1.16.2.901-1 to 1.15.2-1.
It seems there is a problem with Catalyst 14.12-1 and xorg-server 1.16.2.901-1.
Also I had to replace desktop manager from gdm to lightdm as gdm raises segmentation faults using xorg-server versions 1.16.2.901-1 and 1.15.2-1.
Finally I had to add an entry in pacman.conf:
    [xorg115]
    Server = http://catalyst.wirephire.com/repo/xorg115/$arch
    ## Mirrors, if the primary server does not work or is too slow:
    #Server = http://mirror.rts-informatique.fr/archlinux-catalyst/repo/xorg115/$arch
    #Server = http://mirror.hactar.bz/Vi0L0/xorg115/$arch
    Then performs following actions:
    1)  # pacman -Syuu catalyst-hook catalyst-utils-pxp
    2) Uninstall all the packages xf86* such as xf86-video-intel, xf86-input-evdev,  xf86-input-synaptics, etc.
    3) Install the packages uninstalled in step 2 and install them again using xorg115 repo, for example, # pacman -S xorg115/xf86-video-intel xorg115/xf86-input-evdev xorg115/xf86-input-synaptics
I have put a comment here.
