Arch64 on Samsung NF310 netbook?

Hi there,
As a previous satisfied nc10 owner I just got my nf310 netbook from samsung. It comes with the atom n550 processor which supports 64 bit. And now there's my question: Should I install the 64bit version of arch? I never really thought about it deeply with my other systems, I just installed 64bit if the processor supported it, but do you think maybe I will LOOSE some performance on my netbook other than having a little bit more memory usage  in comparison to 32bit? I should probably also mention that I upgraded the internal 1gb of ram to the hardware maximum of 2gb. Amusingly my main reason to worry with 64bit linux is STILL flash. especially on netbooks
what do you guys think?

I would.  I have had little to no issues with flash on x86_64 as of lately (other than flash sucks in general).  At this point, I see no reason not to use Arch64 on all (3) of my 64 bit systems.  Multilib comes in handy when need be, too.

  • Arch64 on Samsung NC20

    hi all,
this is my first post and it is the first time that i'm using arch (decade long slackware addict here)
I was wondering whether somebody uses arch on the samsung nc20. i haven't found one single post in the forum about it, is it because no one uses it or because everything runs smoothly?
i got arch64 installed on the machine and everything is working fine, except that the screen won't come up after suspend or hibernate.
I am using openchrome because the proprietary via gfx driver doesn't work with xorg 1.6 (i would be using it anyway since i tend to prefer free software, and the via driver apparently sucks)
I'm using the latest git kernel (2.6.31-rc4-git3) for all the Via Nano goodies to work (padlock for ssl encryption, RNG, cpu frequency scaling).
Has anyone managed to get suspend/hibernate work on this machine?
Does anyone have some experiences to share?
    thankyou!

I just tried the newly released official drivers on x86_64. The xorg module loads but X crashes sistematically.
I tried to disable vbe in xorg.conf because i think the issue is related to it, but still no luck.

It will pair OK but when I go to play it says not initialised, when I go to Device Manager I see Peripheral Device with yellow exclamation mark, double click on that gives me properties which say Drivers not downloaded. I use the "download drivers"  button but I get message none can be found.
Can you help please , Pete.

  • Help cloning a System (Netbook Samsung NC10) SOLVED

    Hi.
I have successfully installed arch in a Samsung NC10 netbook, I have reduced the Windows Partition to 40 GB and used the rest for Arch. I have the system full configured and working.
Now I have 2 more identical Samsung NC10 to install. I have been looking ate different ways to clone the installation, one option was looking at g4u as I liked to clone full disk (including windows, etc), I have installed guu in a usb key, booted and the problem is that g4u does not detect the network interface :-(
I was thinking of using dd and ssh to dd the whole disk by ssh from a NC10 to the other
but I need a usb live system with sshd installed (any arch that satisfy this?)
I also have a third system that could use as an intermediate sshd server for storing the hd dd image
do you think this could work?
Or there is another best way to do this?
    any help appreciated
    Thanks

I've done that before, though it is a bit faster to use dd an netcat:

The arch live-usb is a regular Arch system.  You can install any package with pacman, including sshd.

Don't upgrade to 7 you're better with XP. Two items I'd suggest downloading.
    1. CCleaner found at www.ccleaner.com
               - Run it to clean your system of junk and also run the registry cleaner as well
    2. Auslogics Disk Defragmenter found at www.auslogics.com or www.download.com
              - In my experience it's the quickest and most efficient disk defragger I've come across.
The netbook already comes with Win7 Starter.

  • Flash player is so slow on my new netbook!

Hi.  I am running Ubuntu Netbook Edition on a Samsung NB30 netbook.  Every time I play or use something that involves Adobe's flash, the performance is terrible. The BBC iPlayer desktop (which uses Adobe Air) is also really bad!!
No other programs on this netbook - except Adobe's Flash and Air - make it slow and flash player crashes about once a day in Google Chrome.
Are Adobe even aware that Flash and iPlayer Desktop (which uses Adobe Air) are so slow and unreliable on Linux??
Why is the performance this bad.  Any ideas??????

Hi, I don't have any experience with your operating system, but I can give you some general info. First you want to go to this test site to see what version of Flash Player you have Installed and whether you can see the animation.
    http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
About BBC iPlayer, there are problems with their site and yes Windows users, with various browsers have problems also.
One thing that users are doing when they have Installed Flash Player 10.1 is turning off the hardware acceleration feature. Whey you go to that above test site, RIGHT click on the animation (Flash Player Logo) and click on Settings, then Display Settings.
Another thing  that users have found is to make sure 3rd party content is enabled in the Global Settings Panel.
    http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager02.htm l
The following thread ( See Post # 10, 12 and 17) has info on the BBC iPlayer problems that other users had and what helped.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/677670?tstart=0
    Hope this information is helpful.

  • My wife's netbook is connected to infinity but won...

Hi.....I've just got infinity this week and have successfully connected to Laptop,iPhone, Wifi Printer and apple TV and they are all performing brilliantly.....however....although I have connected my wife's Samsung netbook to wifi successfully, when I open internet explorer or iTunes they will not connect.
If i connect it by cable ithey connect OK............Any thoughts????????

I presume the Netbook is close to the HH3... Suggest that just for testing ie to eliminate interference.
If it is and still no go....
You could log into your HH3 http://bthomehub.home/html/home/home.html
Go to Advanced settings - Wireless and try changing some settings.
Try moving the HH3 from Automatic to a fixed/set wireless channel..... Apply
    If no luck
Try changing wireless interface setting to 802.11 b/g.... Apply
    No luck.-
Also you could temporarily reduce the strength of your encryption.-
    To WEP (64/40bit)... Apply.
I would hope at some point you would have got on line... Say to Google page.
If still no luck to prove the Netbook wireless card is working you could Briefly change your Encryption to
    NONE.... Apply.
Check very quickly if you are on line.
This is a very risky step and I would make sure no other PC/Laptop/phones are on during this test.
Basically you have opened up your wireless signal so that anyone can connect onto your broadband and download.....
well anything!!! So that's why I say be brief for this test.
It would be intersting to see if at any point you have made a wireless connection.
Another Test you could try is see if you can log onto a FON/Openzone signal.
You should automatically be opted in to FON Check HERE.
If you are able to get an internet connection thru FON... or even go around a friends house and try and log onto their broadband with a wireless connection to your netbook and that works at their house.....
I would then suggest you double check the wireless key you used for your Home network...
There is a Handy pull out Tab in the top of the HH3 that you can pull out and use.
Then click on your netbooks wireless icon... lower right of your netbooks screen.
From the list of available wireless signals, click on your HH3 SSID signal.
Add the wireless key from that pull out tab... click connect and try that.
Please let us know your findings with these test, then we can take it from there...
ie May have to Update netbook's wireless driver or if still can't get the netbook's card to connect...
An easy fix could be to pop in a wireless n USB adapter that'll give you wpa2 encryption and full wireless n speed.
Specification of a small one HERE. Example of one for sale HERE.
    Edit.-
Settings for HH3 to get the best speeds from Infinity would be the recommended position ie 802.11 b/g/n
This sends a wireless n signal out (Along with the other two types b and g).
Settings for the HH3 to have the most secure wireless encryption is the recommended WPA/WPA2 setting.
Channel selection setting for the HH3 I think is best to have this set to a clear wireless channel rather than "Automatic" imho.
To identify a clear/least used wireless channel there is a free scanner for PC's http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/
Just a final thought.... I can't see why but maybe your Anti Virus is set too strong But to not allow Google well I doubt you could block that but double check things like that.... Mmmm but that would have blocked when you were wired so can't be that!!!
Also I presume you haven't set access control for the HH3 to ban that m/c during a particular time... Mmmmm but think that would still ban the Netbook when connected by ethernet which you say works... so ignore that bit as well... lol.
Btw my Samsung N220 Netbook with Win7 works well on my network and anywhere I take it... Tenerife, Caffee Nero etc I love it.
Far better connectivity than my recently purchased HP Touchpad which only seems to want to work on my home Network?????

  • Samsung N150 Qualcomm Gobi Drivers

So i got the new Samsung N150 netbook, Its a dope little netbook except for one thing it comes with windows 7 starter. Windows Starter is complete garbage They did give the option to upgrade to the oth]] windows 7 OS for a nice FEE. So since i have purchased windows 7 ultimate for my previous netbook which i broke, i figured i would just do a nice fresh install of Win7 Ultimate. Installed great with no issues then i find out i need to get the qualcomm gobi drivers in order to use my embeded aircard. So i went to vzam.net to dl vzaccess manager for my particular model. I dl it & install & wait to my suprise the VZaccess manager   for my model does not include the Qualcomm Gobi Drivers. Seriously verizon why the hell would you have a vzaccess manager for my model that doesnt include the drivers for the modem. THAT is just plain **bleep**..
THe funny thing is if i would upgrade directly from starter 7 to another version my drivers will carry over ..But if u do a fresh install your screwed.. I smell a conspiracy..
I have searched the net & i cannot seem to find the drivers can anybody out there help??
    Thank You in Advance

OK now this was an actual answer!  Thanks for the info, I never would have guessed that the CDMA driver for Win7 would be the driver I am looking for.  Personally, I am not happy that Samsung would not provide recovery or reinstall discs (or better yet a reovery SD or thumb drive option).  I prefer Linux on my systems, and when I installed Ubuntu 10.10 it decided that dispite my partioning options it would use the entire drive an wipe out the recovery partition.  the Unbuntu GOBI 2000 drivers worked for 1 usuage then ubuntu stopped seeing the device so I no longer had WAN access.  and with no recovery set I was forced to install WinXP Pro SP 2 from 2003 which of course does not had drivers for the N150 .... short story long ... got the netbook working again .. with broadband .. and FORGET SAMSUNG in the furture ... Acer at least provides reinstall options that are realistic to geekdom!  BTW  you can go through the process and burn yourself a bootable USB Pendive ... I was lazy before  and will do that now!
    raijala wrote:
Burned the recovery discs with what?  The device does not come with any disc drive.  It is ridiculous to expect the customer to purchase extra hardware just to be able to have the recovery or OS discs.
You can get the driver here
     http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/NP-N150-HAV1US
It is the CDMA driver for Win7 and I verified it works in XP as well.

OK.  Well you won't have the manual tab order option.  That came in with 6.1.
Tab order in earlier versions was usually determined by position on the slide (left to right) and order in the layer stacking (top to bottom).
If your TEBs are going down the page in more than one column, the order should be left to right across the slide, then returning to the left side again for the next line across (sort of a zig zag across and down the slide).

Make sure that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) isn't locking files.
You can also try to delete or rename the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\) on your hard drive.

  • OfficeJet 4620 - cannot connect to wifi

    Hi,
I took delivery of a new 4620 printer yesterday and have been stuggling ever since to connect it to wifi.
I'm running Windows 8 Pro 64 bit and have an Asus RT-N66U router (running Tomato firmware v1.28).
I've tried a number of different options including:
Ensuring I downloaded the latest HP software
Trying the HP Print and Scan Doctor
Changing the wifi security from WPA & WPA2 to each individually
    Disabled windows firewall
The error message always the same:
    Issue: Unknown
Solution: For the latest information about wireless connection to HP printers, plus access to help and support resources, click the link below.
    Any suggestions gratefully received.
    Xav

    Hi,
Thanks for the response.  I've tried  a few more approaches and think I'm getting closer to isolating the issue.
The PC I originally tried to install with has Windows Defender and Windows Firewall.  I tried a fresh install with the Firewall disabled but that had no effect.
I have since tried to do another install using a Samsung NC10 netbook (Win XP Home, MS Security Essentials) and get exactly the same issue.  That said, the netbook is wifi enabled (unlike the PC mentioned above which is wired LAN only) and as such, the software grabbed the settings from the netbook automatically (but still the same error message.  Oddly, it only suggested a WPA connection even when I changed the router setting from WPA/WPA2 to just WPA2.
I then focussed my attention on the router as two different PC's giving the same error suggests they arent the problem.  Tomato is finding the printer and listing it in the Device List but there is no IP address listed.  This is confirmed on the printer which continues to report that it is not wifi connected.  I've also tried assigning a static IP in the router and rebooting both router and printer but it just doesnt seem to want to assign an address.
Next I tried manually assigning the IP address in the Advanced Network settings on the printer but no matter what I do, it seems determined to stay stuck on the Automatic Network setting rather than Manual.
When I printed the Wireless Network Test results, there is a Fail listed again No Filtering and against IP Address it states Not Applicable
    Any other suggestions?

  • Network not showing up on Linux (Ubuntu 13.10)

    Product:  Linksys Wireless-G 2.4 GHz 54Mbps Broadband Router WRT54G v.4
OS: Ubuntu 13.10 on Samsung N150 Netbook -- works when hardwired into router, but not wirelessly
OS: Windows 7 on Lenovo Windows 7 PC -- does not work even hardwired in
Was working fine for over a year, but all of a sudden the network disappeared from the Wireless list this afternoon.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Wireless Configurations
What wireless modes are you using?
Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear. 13 for EU regions.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK [/url] only or Auto TPIK and AES.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz cordless house phones or WiFi APs near by?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use http://www.metageek.net/support/metageek-software-archives/ to find out. How many?
    Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.

  • Minmal Custom Kernel 2.6.29.6 for NC10 - fatal: acpi_cpufreq

    Hi,
I try to compile a minimal custom kernel based on 2.6.29.6 for my Samsung NC10 netbook. Main reason is to get the namuga webcam running (doesn't work with 2.6.30) but also to get something optimised (boot-speed).
The kompilation and the kernel work and the webcam work, but I have two issues:
    1. During boot I get the message:
    Fatal: can't load module acpi_cpufreq
    Fatal: can't load module cpufreq_powersave
    Fatal: can't load module cpufreq_ondemand
Powertop as well doesn't show cpu-frequency values (what works with the standard kernel).
