ArchCon 2010 Videos

I was able to attend day one of ArchCon 2010 but was summoned home later in the evening preventing me from attending day two. Spur of the moment I decided to see what my new(ish) HTC Incredible could do as far as video recording. Here is the list disclaimers and caveats:
* It's a phone that did the recording.
* I am not a videographer and as you will see, I will never have the talent necessary to be one.
* Being that it is a phone, I had to prop it up using a Coke can.
* Sometimes I forgot to start recording until a few minutes into a presentation.
* You will need to turn the volume up considerably.
* I accidentally recorded Dan's talk in half resolution.
* Something happened with the file for Dieter's talk on AIF. I nearly deleted it because VLC, SMPlayer, and MediaInfo all report there is no sound. I found that avidemux plays the file back with sound, but I have not been able to find a way to convert or transcode the file so it will play back with common media players.
* These are hosted on my personal account w/ DreamHost. They claim I have unlimited bandwidth, but we'll see. If anybobdy want to, or thinks it is worth it, to mirror / torrent these, feel free.
* I asked Dusty about posting these and he said it would be fine.
* I did the best I could under the circumstances and with my limited experience with the video recording functionality of the phone.

We did have someone recording all but one of the talks with a real camera, We'll be posting them later in the week, but I make no promises about audio quality or anything like that. There will also be photos going up. Keep an eye on http://archlinux.ca/archcon2010/

July 20th 2009 : Release of the new version of ERPsim and new SAP client to the UCCs.
August 1st 2009 : Electronic desk copies of the revised ERP Simulation Game Participant's guide (now distributed by Pearson Education ISBN 013510999X) will be available to faculty.
August 7th 2009 : Slides and Job aid for the new distribution game will be available on the UAC portal. The distribution game can be use free of charge by members of the SAP University Alliance. Faculty are required to be certified on ERPsim.
August 7th 2009 : New version of the ERPsim Learning Portal will be available for faculty. On this learning portal, it will be possible to learn how to use the latest functionalities of ERPsim and get access to all faculty material for the manufacturing game.

Oracle open world 2010 video streaming

Last yr i remember they were showing this at otn.oracle.com, wondering is oracle doing this yr too, unable to find free live video streaming at otn though, looking for url if any....

MacBook Pro 13" 2010 video lockups

Are there any known video card issues with the MBP ( Mid 2010 ) and external video ? We have about 65 of these laptops ( 13" version ) all rolled out with the same "image" created with Deploy Studio. Around 20 of them will have the video lock up in a solid color screen on the laptop and the external LCD projectors they are attached to.

.....and then I blew into the headphone socket. Instant success with sound restored. I can only assume that some dust particle was in some way mechanically interfering with a switch?
Moral.. check the obvious, easiest and cheapest possibilities.

Macboko Pro 2010 Video freezing.

Alrighty, I've had a reoccuring problem with my video freezing over and over at random. I think it may be related to the flash player however I may have seen it freeze once or twice without anything on.
Essentially the video freezes up but seemingly everything else is running in the background. If it is during flash, I can generally still here the sound to whatever was playing however I can't do anything put hold the power button down to restart the machine.

Decided to take a photo of it since I was reading up some similar issues but they were describing a "black screen" Then one is clearly a little different.
From what I can tell the machine is up to date. It's a little disconcerning when you buy a brand new machine and a few months later it's freezing like this. Everytime I have to hard reboot it it makes me cringe as I'm sure it's lovely for my harddrive data.
Hopefully this isn't tooting the same horn... if so someone please point me in the right direction.

I don't think that has anything to do with flash. I think it has something to do with your video card. Try repeating it without the AC adapter connected. You should go into a different video mode, that I believe is lower power and lower quality. If you're not getting the problem doing that, then you definitely have an issue with your video card, and will need to be fixed by Apple.
Also, make sure you have done the firmware update for the video card.

Flash Video Won't Open and Play in Online Site

When I upload my Flash Video files to the online server, the HTML page opens but the Flash Video doesn't open and play. If I open the HTML page in preview mode in Dreamweaver CS5, the HTML page opens and the Flash Video plays OK. I have tried using the Adobe Media Encoder to produce the FLV file as well as tried exporting the FLV from Adobe Premiere CS 5.5, but neither makes any difference. The Flash Video still doesn't play when files are uploaded to the site online. I have also tried using different versions of Flash Professional to create and publish the SWF movie file, but nothing I try seems to make the Flash Video open and play online. The test site I have set up is http://www.hgatest.org then you can click the “video” link to open the Flash Video. Video HTML page URL is http://www.hgatest.org /video.html   You can then see what I am talking about. Please help. This just started happening about 6 months ago and it has been driving me crazy. Spry Menu Bar Horizontal Problem in Internet Explorer

I'm having a problem with a spry menu bar. It works fine in Firefox and Google Chrome, but in Internet Explorer the submenus shift to the right.

Dual-core or Quad-core for Premiere, After Effects, and Photoshop CS4?

We are planning to purchase around 25 computers for a computer lab for working with CS4 Production Premium at the high school level. Mainly Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Photoshop. Our budget is, unfortunately, a mere $550-$625 per machine (just the tower though, we have monitors). I've already established that a 64-bit operating system makes a significant difference in the performance, even though Photoshop is the only 64-bit application, and I'm now hung up on whether or not it's worth the cost of a quad-core processor over a dual-core.
I'm discovering the different hardware needs for each application, so I'm trying to find an economic balance that will give me the best performance per buck. It seems that Premiere benefits significantly from more cores (we're editing 1440x1080 AVCHD), and this article over at Tom's Hardware has convinced me that I don't want to compromise with a hyperthreaded dual-core for After Effects.
I'm also struggling with what part the graphics card plays in the mix. Which applications lean on the graphics card, and will it make much difference as long as I meet the requirements (OpenGL 2.0, Shader Model 3.0, Direct3D 10, and 256 Mb Ram)?
I understand I will need to settle for less-than-awesome with my budget, but I'm already making sacrifices to get the number to $625. I would like to make sure that those sacrifices will be worth it for a quad-core system.

I think that the jump to the quad core in Premiere Pro is worth it, even if I don't see as large of an improvement in Photoshop or After Effects. I am still interested in the role of the graphics card in the mix if anyone can shed some light on that. Will an integrated graphics card (like an Intel GMA x4500 or Radeon HD4200) suffice or will I need an actual graphics card to realize the benefits?

**Missing Audio when Exporting to HD**

Hi,
I have been trying to find a solution to missing audio for sometime and there are many discussions on this forum regarding this topic. I have an external drive and in the past I have lost audio, I guess because the event and the project were on different drives, I have resolved that. Also, the problem that I have is not related to the speed of a clip or that I have more than 10GB in my events (I don't). There have been other audio issues and I have always been able to resolve them but this one has me stumped! I thought that perhaps the graphics card was not up to the task but this has just happened and now I am confused.
I have just completed a project that was only 3 minutes long 403.5 MB. The movie was imported to iMovie from my video camera and listed as an Event, I also used movie clips and stills from iPhoto, I added titles and transitions. I then exported the movie to Media Browser (mobile size) so that I could import it into Garage Band to make an soundtrack. I then exported the soundtrack as an AAC to iTunes (as I have read that there are issues with MP3 and audio missing). I then opened iMovie and dragged the soundtrack into my project and republished the completed project to Media Browser in the HD size. No problem all works well, I was really happy! Onwards I thought and get another 2010 video finished, wrong!
On my next project I have done everything that I have described above, this time the project is only 349.8 MB (smaller). The audio on the HD size has failed. I have copied all the files onto my desktop and reimported everything. I have tried exporting using Quicktime or as a Movie but still no audio. I have found that the 'consolidate media' is grayed out when I have all my clips in the project editor, because they are all on my hard drive. As soon as I add the iTunes track that I have exported from Garageband the consolidate media option becomes available. If I select this I then get the message that the iTunes track cannot be copied as it is not on my hard drive! It is on my hard drive (I disconnected all external drives so that there would be no confusion!).
I cannot understand how the first project worked and the second smaller project failed using the same process! I thought that I would share this information with the forum in the hope that perhaps a solution can be found. I am able to publish the second project to my mobile me in the large and mobile sizes, it would be good to have the HD size for a DVD. There seems to be no logical pattern to the audio disappearing on export. Your thoughts or help would be very welcome.

In Soundtrack if you have selected to use only channel 2 of a stereo file (right click on stereo file and select mono->channel2) you will hear channel 1 when you export. Its a massive bug.
Could that be the source of your problems? The bug can certainly create exported mixes that sound like stuff is missing.

Oracle CPU question with 11.5.10 CU2

Just a general question. First time trying to apply an Oracle CPU and in this case applying the July 2010 CPU to our Test E-biz 11.5.10 CU2 RUP7 install.
My configuration is RH Linux ES 4.8 with a 10.2.0.4 database server running admin, db and CCM services and then an app server running forms and web services.
I'm referring to "Oracle E-Business Suite Releases 11i and 12 Critical Patch Update Knowledge Document (July 2010) [ID 986534.1]" and then the subsequent articles that follow that.
My questions are:
Q1. My database level is currently 10.2.0.4. It would appear my steps are first update Opatch (no problem there).
Then apply 9032412.
Then it looks like I apply either CPU Patch 9655017, or PSU Patch 9654991.
But PSU 9654991 REQUIRES PRE-REQUISITE 10.2.0.4.4 so I can't apply that right?
I will apply 9655017 instead and will that get me to 10.2.0.4.5?
Q2. My configuration is DB Tier with CCM and an app Tier running forms, reports as mentioned.
Do I have to worry about the Fusion Middle-ware stuff?
Q3. Patches to apply to E-Business Suite.
Looks like 9578142 applies to my environment.
Check the pre-reqs to ensure I have anything that needs to be applied first.
Then depending on what modules we use or have installed (does it make a difference) I'll apply subsequent patches say for 'Financials'.
Q3. Anything else I need to consider? We are patching Test first and when done if it's all good we'll schedule Prod.
I realize this is a pretty generic question. My main uncertainty is on the db 10.2.0.4 patch and if the 965517 will get me to 102045 or not.

Local noise reduction too weak

I often need to add a touch of additional noise reduction to some image areas such as the sky and use to apply the adjustment brush (can't say how much Lightroom lacks a layers feature). In some cases, even increasing the noise lever to 100% will still not give me enough noise reduction. I currently don't know any other way to get what I want than to escape to Photoshop with its masks, layers and filters. I'd prefer to stay in Lightroom for noise reduction, is there something I could try or would the developers need to make the effect of the slider stronger?

Andreas: the solution is simple, even if it isn't intuitive. Just click on the "new" button next to the adjustment brush to start a new adjustment in a new location. Now start painting in another location in the sky. (Don't get to close to the original pin you started with your you'll reselect it and continue that adjustment.) Now you can paint 100% noise reduction over the sky a second time for a total of 200%. If that's still not enough, lather, rinse and repeat.
