ArchISO custom image - copy directly to disc

Hi all,
I am creating a custom install disc for my personal laptops so that I can quickly recover without having to remember what I installed, had configured, etc.
Assuming I have everything configured on the ArchISO that I want in my new system, what is the best way to get that to the hard drive?
For the install process, I would only want to setup disk encryption and allow the user to configure where the OS is installed.
Walter

Hi Markus,
HOW exactly are you burning the hard drive folder to a DVD disc? If simply burning the VIDEO_TS folder to disc as DATA, that is why it does not work in the DVD player. To be a legal-spec DVD compatible with set-top players, a DVD must be burned as "DVD Video". The files are laid out a certain way on the disc, there is perhaps a flag on the disc indicating that it is "DVD Video", etc.
Add any DVD-Rom content in Encore, then try building an IMAGE (.iso) file from Encore rather than a "Folder" on the hard drive. Use any burning software that can use an .iso as a source and that will create a proper DVD. Or use a free software such as "ImageBurn" and be sure to choose "DVD Video" when burning the folder to disc if you wish to continue using the folder method. But I don't think you can add more data inside the VIDEO_TS folder once it is on the hard drive, only add content in Encore.
I believe that VLC Media Player will play .iso file DVDs if memory serves
Thanks

  • Map custom image dir on Standalone deployment?

Is it possible to map a custom images (or other) directory on the Standalone deployment server?
i.e.: images is mapped to /i/
    corporate images mapped to /ci/

Edited by: K Cannell on May 10, 2011 1:17 AM

    Hello Karen,
as for the current release 1.1.1, only +/i/+ is supported directly in standalone mode. I assume you can't just reset the images prefix on your APEX instance. So you'll either have to use a "fullblown" J2EE Container for that purpose, or put a HTTP proxy in front of your standalone APEX Listener. Many proxies, e.g. Apache HTTPD, can be configured to do reverse proxying for a certain URL-path (e.g. +/apex+), but serve locally on others (e.g. +/i/+ and +/ci/+), so you could copy your images into the proxies document root.

  • Reduce size of custom images in Address Book

I love Address Book's wonderful integration with Mail.app, my iPod and even my phone. So, one day I decided to set custom images for almost all of my contacts - copying and pasting images into the fields.
However, afterwards, I realised that my 275 contact address book has ballooned from 2MB to 49.9MB thanks to the pictures. If I export the contacts into a Group vCards, it is an astounding 121.8 MB.
I feel that Apple should've limited the size of the pictures (automatically resize it just as iPhoto does for email and iWeb does for the web). However, this isn't the case.
    Thus, my question is:
Is there a script or anything to reduce the size of those custom images? I am not looking forward to deleting the pictures and resizing them before importing them into Address Book. If there is an automated way of resizing the pictures, please let me know!
    Thank you very much!

    Hi mintchocicecream,
    Have a look at this:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=2271577#2271577
May be of no help, but sounds like you have larger that necessary files.
I do mot know of any script, short of a photoshop group resize that would work. Certainly nothing in Address Book.
    Good Luck

  • How to use custom images in Apex 4.1 with EPG

I just ported over an application from Apex 3.2/10g using Apache to a new server using Apex 4.1/11g using EPG and none of my custom images work. When using Apache, all I had to do was copy the file over to the /i/Custom images folder and I could reference it on any of my pages. I copied the entire /Custom folder to the new server and that doesn't seem to do the trick. I've seen some posts that talk about having to use FTP (why?) or something to get this to work. Can someone please explain what is going on here and what I need to do to get this working?

With EPG, the images aren't accessed from a directory. They are actually stored inside the database. The FTP process actually gets redirected so that the image gets stored inside Oracle rather than being written to a file. There are numerous articles and such detailing exactly how to do this.
    One is here:

  • Sap/bw/Mime/Customer/Images Path in SAP BW Server

    Hi,
while developing the Web Reports, Our consultants has used some logos in the templates in the development server. These logos are appearing in development properly. I have transported these templates to the quality where these icons are not displaying.
Post that I found these icons are picked up from from the location  '/sap/bw/Mime/Customer/Images/headjetlogo.gif'. I am trying to copy these files from development to quality. But I am unable to find this path on development server.
Can anyone please help  me on how do I find these files.
    Thanks
    Ramesh Ganji

    hi Ramesh,
when we attach the file to dev, system will ask for 'local object' or specify package and save to request to be transported.
since it's not 'insert' by you, try right click in SE80 and check if there is 'object directory entry', change the package and it will prompt request or right click the file and find menu 'export' or 'download', it will then save to you local pc (specify a folder).
after that go to production, se80, right click the folder and 'import mime objects' from the file downloaded.
    hope this helps.

  • How to create custom images c.war, similar to i.war.  --context not working

    ORDS beta 3.0..65.09.31
I am trying to create a custom images c.war file, similar to the way one creates the i.war file for the APEX satic images.
    The directions say:
java -jar ords.war static [--context] <location>
    Options:
[--context]           The context path at which the
                                     WAR will be deployed,
                                     defaults to: /i
    Arguments:
<location>            The location where the Oracle
                                     Application Express static
                                     resources are stored
but I have yet to find any combination of syntax that will give me a war that maps to /c instead of /i, the default.
    For example:
    C:\oracle\ords3.0.0.65.09.31>java -jar ords.war static --context /c   C:\oracle\custom_htmldb
    WAR Generation complete
    WAR location     : C:\oracle\ords3.0.0.65.09.31\i.war
    Context path     : /i
    Static resources : C:\oracle\custom_htmldb
Ensure the static resources are available at path: C:\oracle\custom_htmldb
on the server where the WAR is deployed
    and
    C:\oracle\ords3.0.0.65.09.31>java -jar ords.war static --/c   C:\oracle\custom_ht
    mldb
java -jar ords.war static [--context] <location>
    Options:
[--context]           The context path at which the
                                     WAR will be deployed,
                                     defaults to: /i
    Arguments:
<location>            The location where the Oracle
                                     Application Express static
                                     resources are stored
--/c is not a valid option
and variations using quotes and single quotes - all result in the same, either /i gets mapped or I get the directions again/
This has to be something really simple.
    Please help!

  • Custom image format

Could anybody please point me in the right direction to write a plug-in to import custom image formats?
    Thanks

The LR plugin SDK doesn't have the capability for directly importing formats other than those natively implemented by LR (JPEG, raw, TIFF, PNG, video).  The Any File plugin lets you "import" files of arbitrary type into your catalog and manage them, but you can't edit the files directly in LR.
If you have more specific questions about writing plugins, please post them in the LR SDK forum.

  • Image copy

I've seen this question asked but have not found the answer. I'm trying to perform an image copy (restore) via disk utility and get the following error about 1/2 hour into the restore "Restore Failed. An error (2) occured while copying. (No such file or directory) I'm trying to backup to a WD external hard drive.
Any help in resolving would be most helpful
    Tony

If the disc works on my computer doesn't that rule out that it could be the quality of the disc? I am sure Toast is a good program, but I don't think I will be burning a lot of things and I would think that the burning application should work that comes with the computer. Am I wrong on this? I am a casual burner.
Another thing that I thought it might be was the format of the disc. The format for the DVD is Mac OS Extended. When I click on the DVD icon the img file does not show a format but it does say NDIF image under "kind". When I click on the img file the white rectangle ejectable thing pops up and that file format is Universal Disk Format. Could this be causing any problem or is this normal?
I'm trying a "tv type DVD player" tonight. Thanks.

  • MDT 2010 Windows 7 custom image import problelm

I am unable to import a Windows 7 OS from a wim image file any more. I get "Path 'C:\Distribution\Operating Systems\Old OS Folder' does not exist" when I try to import. I believe the folder it is looking for was one where I had imported a custom image with setup files. I have since added Windows 7 operating systems from the DVD for source files and had deleted the image operating system it is looking for. I can still import a Windows XP custom image just fine.
It is creating the folder and copying the wim, but it does not show up in the Deployment Workbench under operating systems. Any ideas? I assume the problem is coming from having imported the wim with setup files previously.

    Hi,
    just came across similar problem.
Custom .wim image not visible after importing to MDT.
imagex /info returns long wim description for another custom wim but much shorter for this one.
I tried to change wim name and description property - but nothing worked for me.
So I applied the original image to folder and then recaptured it with imagex I am using (newest WAIK).
Now the imagex /info is ok.
Btw you cannot notice the difference with
    dism /Get-WimInfo
It is now visible in MDT.
Can you please explain what you did.
i am using image capture cd generated using SCCM to capture the wim file.
1 image i imported successfully. Every image since then after import it does not show up in deployment workbench. i have no idea what to do.

  • Keynote crashes with custom images bullets

Anyone had problems with custom image bullets? I am using a custom image bullet – a simple bracket set that's not supported by Keynote because it's a glyph – so I saved the image file as a png file and placed it as a custom bulllet. Now if I add a new text box (sans bullet) it automatically adds the bullet and I can't remove it. Also, if I try to copy and paste a text box it force quits Keynote even though a bullet isn't used. It seems like obviously the problem is the bullet so I've tried deleting it from all master pages and existing pages and it hasn't helped.
I'm still using the old version of Keynote but would this be resolved in the new Keynote? I haven't read much positive about the new Keynote so I'm apprehensive.

    Hello!
Can somebody give a hint here? We are blocked by this problem.

  • Clear custom image Q

Somehow the custom image on my personal card in Address Book shows up on hundreds of my other contacts in Address Book. It gets very tedious deleting the custom image on each card one by one. Is there a bulk command to delete the custom image from all cards?

hello, I solved it for real, as asked.
I copied the System icons for guest user, converted them to tiff, and packed them with instructions, basically adding them to the user icons folder.
It needs to be known to people that the user login picture you have for OS X is used for your adress book. Changing the icon in iChat for example to the mobileme-cloud didn't affect the one in address book, nor the login one for OS X. It is a useful request to have a system wide option in the accounts Preferences (IMHO) to set the desired picture once and for all system wide and for internet visibility (iChat)

  • Deploying Custom Image with Answer File

    Hi everyone!
I'm in the process of making a custom image for ~25 computers, using WAIK (no network so no MDT, WDS...). I followed Technet's "Step-by-Step: Basic Windows 7 Deployment for IT Professionals", and installed from original Win7 Ultimate Retail
Media, with an answer file. Finally I customized that install and now have a properly set-up install, in audit mode and waiting to be generalized.
I'd like to deploy this custom install with an answer file/configuration set, in order to auto-install some drivers and hardware-specific apps, answer typical questions, etc...
But I must admit, I'm a bit unclear as to how to proceed from there. So I'm going to state how I understand it, and would love you to correct me where I'm wrong!
On reference computer, run syprep /generalize /oobe /shutdown
Boot to WinPE, capture image with ImageX
Open the resulting custom.wim in WSIM, generate a catalog file
Make Answer File + Configuration Set, copy them to the root of an empty UFD
Replace the Original Win7 Media's install.wim with my custom.wim, make bootable UFD
Deploy to other computers with the 2 UFD's
Does that sound right to you? Am I missing something? Also, should I be running sysprep with a /unattend:xxx.xml switch (not sure how that works)?
    Bonus Question:
I'd like to use the Answer File + Configuration Set to perform some silent installs via script. Could you point me to a relevant Technet (or 3rd party) resource for that?
Thank you very much for reading ^^

If you are doing the "replace install.wim" option, then you are installing using Setup. In this scenario, Setup will ignore the answer file specified in the image with the /unattend switch with Sysprep. So it would be unnecessary to prepare the
    image with that switch.
Awesome! Thanks very much for clarifying the use of the /unattend switch with sysprep =)
Anyways, I'd rather use an autounattend.xml in another UFD, which I can replace for any different hardware type, partition layout, etc...
Also, the "replace install.wim" method is the only one I know. Are there others I should be aware of?
    Thanks!
    Hi,
yes, the basic process is like what you said.
Here is a guide which contains the video and text to tech you how to do the deployment.

I'll definitely give it a read once I get a proper domain up and running at the office.

  • WDS for custom image deployment via PXE

I've recently spun up a 2012R2 server and I'd like to use it so I can netboot clients to it and install a custom image on the machine, no hassle.  I have figured out how to take an image from a Windows 7 install disk and add drivers to it.
However, I'm wondering the best way that I could configure an image to use that has all programs, profiles, updates, and drivers on it for a 'universal' install. Is this possible?
For example, can I have a 32-bit image that has Chrome, FireFox, and some other programs on it, complete with any drivers that might be needed for NIC and WLAN cards, graphics adapters, etc? And then a 64-bit image for the same thing. Ideally, these
would house drivers for any of our machines, so I could PXE boot a 64- or 32-bit desktop or laptop, regardless of the model (They're all one manufacturer) and have them install the image and be configured, ready to go?
I would also like to know how I could create a custom image/ISO from a machine that is already ready-to-go as a template.
Thank you for answers in advance.
If it helps, i'm on a Windows 8.1 x64 machine myself, but the machines I'd like to image are Windows 7 (both x86 and x64).

    Yea.  In a nut shell:
    1. Do the install and create the needless account the setup process forces you to create.
    2. On first log in enable the original default Administrator account and give it a password
    3. Log in with the default Administrator account.
    4. Delete the local account that setup forced you to create
    5. Go to Advanced system Settings --> User Profiles, and remove the profile for that account.  This is important,...this removes the registry entries for the Profile as well (just deleting the folder structure under "C:\Users" does not,
    and problems can result).
    6. Build your image model from this point using the original default local Administrator account.  This is the only account that Sysprep will leave on the machine when it is run. Note the machine is not a Domain Member when I am at this point.
I only join the machine that I apply the image to when I finally deploy the machine to be used .
    7. Run Sysprep on the machine to prepare it for duplication, then shutdown or reboot.  When starting up you do not want to allow it to boot into the OS or you will have to rerun Sysprep again.   You can use WDS to "capture" an image
after doing a network boot from the Nic.  You can also boot the machine using a Windows PE bootdisk and manually capture an image with ImageX (comes with WAIK for Win7).  But ImageX is commandline only and annoying,...there is a GUI alternative called
GImageX (google it). Then manually copy the captured image to the WDS Server.  Note when you capture an image,..you are only capturing the Boot Partition,...not the entire drive.
The details of all this you can sort out by studying "how to use" WDS and WAIK (Win7).  That should put you on the right track.
A source for creating a bootable Windows PE disk is here.

  • Can't save modified file to a folder in an image disk directly

I have an image disk on an external drive (firewire) and if I try to save a modified file of an existing file or do a "save as" to a folder, I'm always sent to the root directly of the finder and I have to navigate myself all the way back to the destination folder, every time. MS Word is even worse. I get a message that I have the wrong path and then it sends me back to the root directory. When I get back to the destination folder, MS Word accepts it but shows the message again, anyway. This doesn't happen if I save to the image disk directly and not go into a folder.

    HI Owen,
Perhaps your Quicken preference files are corrupted, it's not bad, and an easy fix. Locate this file or one that is similar: com.quicken.plist It should be here; MacintoshHD/Users/Library/Preferences. Open the Preferences folder, locate that file, drag it to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot. It's ok to trash a pref file, your Mac will create a new one for you.
Also, here's the link to the Quicken forums; http://www.quickencommunity.com/
