Architectural Q please in.

Hi all,
I'm designing a dynamic website (duh :-]), and i wan't to be able to give my users their own layout. (css and own images etc) that is no problem.
works great thx to taglibs and struts... (faaster then i even thought).
But i have one problem.
I want to give them the possibility to have custom pages (content changes etc) they can put them in their folder and from then of the site should load that page. But when removing the site should fall back on the default page. How can i do that without having to wait for a timeout on the page.
Is there a possibility to check if the page exists ifso --> load it, otherwise load the default. But it shouldn't be to slow :-]

These ones are typically caused by underlying problems on the PC that also often cause Windows Updates to fail to install. If we can fix the Windows Update trouble, we can usually get the iTunes trouble cleaned up en passant.
Go into your Windows update and try to check for new updates. If updates install, stock up on the ones you're behind on, restarting the PC if requested to do so. After the restart, try installing iTunes again. Does it go through this time for you?
If windows updates fail to install, go into your Update History and doubleclick the failures. What alphanumeric codes appear for you? (For example, 8007000B.)

Bill Presentment Architecture help please

Hello,
This is the first time that I am using BPA.
We need to add additional information to our Invoice and need to change the format. I have created a custom template for our invoice Print using Bill presentment Architecture. It looks good when I open the document through “Interactive Preview” of the BPA. I have created a rule and assigned the template to the new rule. I queried a transaction and clicked the eyeglass symbol, but it still shows the “Default Invoice Template”. I also ran the seeded program “BPA Transaction Print Program” expecting to see the custom template format. But I still see the default template in the output.
I have an issue with Interactive Preview as well. Online Preview looks good with all the logo and additional information in Logo area. But the Print Preview doesn’t show the logo area at all.
Could somebody please help us to resolve these issues?

Thanks for the answer. When you say rule data is that Rule creation date or the "Bill Creation From Date" that we setup while creating the rule? I have created a new invoice after the rule created, but it did not pick the new custom template.
I have another issue. It would be greate if you could help. I have split my logo area into 2 vertically to display logo in one and legal entity and addres on the other one. In the Online Preview I can see the logo and Legal address. But in the print preview , i am not able to see them. It just shows a blank space. Any Idea?

Requesting basic architecture advice, please

Hello all,
I've got a situation where a customer will make a request of a web app and needs to receive information back from the web app anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour later. This is well beyond the length of a reasonable HTTP timeout, and even if I extended the timeout and kept the session alive, I'd be worried about running out of resources as this will get many, many hits.
Can you suggest an approach that might work here, please? Would you put an app server at each end and just pass http calls to servlets back and forth? An ESB with two clients so they can pass messages back and forth?

You will want to have the initial request be asynchronous. Simply return a response to the client that the request was properly formatted and is being processed. From that point, you have a few options:
1. Use email or pager notification to let the user know that the request has completed
2. Use AJAX or something similar to update an area of the page when the request has completed
Regardless, you will be passing back to the user a token of some kind. When they request the results of the report/etc. they will furnish the token, which you can use to fetch the results that were previously calculated. You might also have a need to clean out the results of processing, say overnight, if the results should not persist indefinitely.

What does "Deep Architecture! Please unlock some folders!" mean?

I have seen this message occassionally when i am recording which stops the session. I am not sure what it means. I have are about 15 midi tracks and a few vocal tracks without folders. Does anyone know what this error message mean or what folders it means? I also get this message when i am playing along with the song with a midi track. Thank you.

That's an error message put in by the developers... many, many years ago.
At the time, way back when you could speak with the developers a user was supposed to report that message and document what they were doing prior to the message coming up.
There used to be a few cryptic messages Logic would display when an internal error occurred.
It could possibly be memory related, running low or fragmented memory.
What happens if you save your project, reboot the computer and continue on?

I am trying to install iTunes on my laptop that runs Windows 8.1
I have tried several solutions discussed in similar questions but none worked
-uninstalled and reinstalled
-cleaned C drive for all Apple products
-tried to install security update’ Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update’ but the same error appeared
-Windows module installer is enabled

please regret the inconvenience if I posted the topic in the wrong thread and also guide me for the right thread.
I am trying to bring a CD of practice exams, for the course GRE that is to be launched.
So I want a technical architecture for exam simulator of GRE practice Tests.
I need to design the technical architecture for this one. Where do I need to start from?
High level abstraction of the requirements:
scope is : Building Exam simulator
--> A standalone application where students need to place the CD and run the setup file of the exam simulator.
--> The setup file installs the software for the exam simulator.
UI --> There will be sections, like Section A, Section B etc., each section will have question, choice based.
Need to have a timer, previous and next buttons.
Data security is the main threat. If the setup is installed student should not know from where the data is being read or retrieved.
The architecture should be scalable so that we can add a wrap up of intelligence, for displaying the questions according to parameters we consider (speed, difficulty level etc.,) for a question being answered by the student. Also how to add the authentication of the user to resume the exam saved and to show the reports saved.
Guide me how to design it. Hope that I am at an entry level for designing the technical architecture.

First, separate out the functional requirements and express them in terms of the domain.
A standalone application where students need to place the CD and run the setup file of the exam simulator.That assumes a lot about implementation already, rather than being a requirement. What are the actual requirements which mean it cannot run off the CD and requires a setup program?
UI --> There will be sections, like Section A, Section B etc., each section will have question, choice based.Turn that into a domain model, then state the UI will display elements from the domain model in a suitable format.
Need to have a timer, previous and next buttons.Turn that into a testable requirement - does the student have a time limit per question, per exam, or is the timer an extra feature if you want to boil eggs?
Why do you need previous and next buttons? Do they have to be buttons? Is there a reason that navigation has to be linear?
Data security is the main threat. OK. Needs elaboration - what data needs protecting, from whom, whether it's an authentication or auditing issue.
If the setup is installed student should not know from where the data is being read or retrieved.Why? it's trivial to look at what files a program are opening using OS tools, so this implementation of data security is rather flawed. If you want security, you need to secure the data, not try and hide it and hope that the user is incompetent.
The architecture should be scalable so that we can add a wrap up of intelligence, for displaying the questions according to parameters we consider (speed, difficulty level etc.,) for a question being answered by the student. 'Scalable' normally means that throughput grows linear with hardware duplication. The other requirements here seem to ask for reporting.
Also how to add the authentication of the user to resume the exam saved and to show the reports saved.Break this down into saving, resuming and authentication requirements, then start to consider architectural solutions.

[SOLVED] Architecture problems after chroot fix

I got the brilliant idea last night that systemd-sysvcompat was no longer needed on my system so I unistalled it. Turning on my computer did not go smootly this morning.
I managed to fix the problem by booting a Linux Mint 64bit KDE USB I had lying around and from there I followed some chroot instructions to access my Arch setup and restore the deleted systemd-sysvcompat. While I was at it I also updated some programs. This was all done through pacman undir chroot.
The problem I have now is that my system is 32 bit (i686) and I keep getting the error
error: failed to prepare transaction (package architecture is not valid)
:: package xxx-x86_64 does not have a valid architecture
from pacman. If i add the --arch x86_64 flag pacman stops complaining and installs but I get the 64 bit version (as expected). The packages which I installed from my chroot session all turned out to be x86_64 versions. I have now restored them all to i686 by manually downloading and installing each package.
I found some old posts on the same error from pacman but have not been able to fix the problem after reading them. I have f. ex. tried setting the arch flag in pacman.conf to i686 instead of auto without success.
uname -m reports i686 as the architecture.
Please advise me on what I can try to fix this problem and please forgive me if I've missed out some important log outputs or other information. I'll provide as needed.

Questions about application server architecture

I have few questions about application server architecture�
I have a task to build a server application which will do the following: Clients (special java clients) will connect to it and send some data for further processing on server side. Chunks of data will be relatively small but they will take a lot of time for processing (it is ok that it will be quite slow).
Also server will run some sort of �database� where all clients� working data will be stored. So, in case a client loses its data he/she is always able to download it from the server.
For me it seems, like server will consist of the following components:
1. �Reception�. This part will be responsible for all client-communication procedures.
2. �Data storage�. This part will simply store all clients� data and provide some API interface for clients through �reception� to manage it (add/get/delete and so on).
3. �Processor�. Some sort of dummy-sophisticated module. It will take some input data from �data storage� when it receives order for this and process it. �Processor� will have two states: �busy� which means �processor� processing some data and �available� which means �processor� ready to process new data.
4. �Manager�. This part will always check �data storage� for new data and �processor� for availability. When �processor� and new data are available �manager� will make an order for �processor� to take new data from �data storage� and process it.
So, my question is the following: Which technology and approaches I should use to realize my plan?
I think that I can make �reception� as a Session Bean, but I don�t know yet, what are the best for the rest, for example �manager� and �processor�. I was thinking about writing my own application server (and I can do it), but I would like to learn j2ee technologies, so I think it is a perfect chance for me (I read a lot about j2ee before I wrote this post, but all examples have only �account�-�bill�-�money transfer� I think it is quite far away from reality or I am doing something wrong ;-)!
p.s. I am thinking about using JBoss as an Application Server. I tested it and wrote some tests. They work and run fast enough, so I like it. Moreover it has module architecture.
Please, give me some advises and tips!

Explanation of the above depicted sequence :
JSP : Provides the view for the presentation layer.
Action Class - The function of an action class is to create a Transfer object out of Form Object and invoke the corresponding business delegate method.
Business Delegate - The business delegate calls the appropriate Service method based on the value obtained from the Transfer object.This layer uses Service locator for the JNDI look up.
Session Bean -EJB Service (Session bean) delegates the business object coordination logic to the Business Object Layer.
Business object Layer- All the business validations will be performed.Based on the business requirement, it will call the DAO or call Web Service Layer through Application Service layer.
Application Layer - The Application Service layer is used to co-ordinate with the external application services and Web service layer.
My Queries :
1) One section of my application has just one concurrent user. Ie. the application has Administration section in which at a time only 2 users will be using the application. Is it wise to go for EJB implementation.?
2) If EJB layer is not used? can i use a simple java interface class and an implementation class to replace the EJB layer..so that if the future requirement needs EJB implementation, then we can just introduce a home interface to convert this existing approach to a EJB.I have this thought process, I am not sure whether this is feasible? If this is feasible, how do i go about?
3)Is there any simple approach to have a better architecture? Please advice

It is not really achieving what a session facade is intended to do (save remote EJB calls). Besides a Business Object would be achieving the purpose of encapsulating the business logic.

If you require all that, I doubt you would get it in a single interface + implementing class. Anyway, you have DAOs to take care of DB layer. And your EJB doesn't serve much purpose here.

architecture? Please adviceYes, do away with the EJB. I think Think about what you want to really do with the thing labelled as "DAO". In short, look for the core J2EE patterns and try to understand what each layer is intended to do, if it is a part of the architecture..

You don't mention the platform (e.g. Unix-based or Microsoft), as this plays into your underlying requirements especially in regards to web server software. Notwithstanding, your two of your three biggest components will be an application server (or servers) and a database server (or servers). If your operation is that big or critical that you need to strategize failover techniques and etc, I would highly recommend that you attend a BusObject Administrator's class for XI (preferably in residence versus over the web) as this will ground you firmly in going down the correct path. My only experience in BusObjects products is with XI R2, so I'm not sure how previous versions handled clustering of the BusObjects software, but in XI it is a very efficient and stable platform in a clustered environment providing that you apply some best practices. For instance the input/output repository: for failover to work properly, this repository should be staged on a file server (or NAS) so that if the primary server goes down it does not take the input/output repo with it, etc, etc. As far as database server failover, this must be handled just like any other database implementation using the tools offered by your vendor of choice. The only thing that BusObjects is looking for is an ODBC connection to a server that is operational, which is standard fare for most BI applications. Good luck and I would encourage you to post your significant findings to share as you embark upon your journey.
