Architectural software.

I have an iMac running OSX 10.8.5 and am looking for a 2D architectural design program. I want to be able to create blueprints for residential designs.

Here is an EVGA GTX 770 video card on Newegg.  If this is like the one that you want, there are three main problems: 1) the card requires a 600W power supply unit (PSU) (yours is 250W),  2) it requires UEFI Firmware in the motherboard and 3) it is 10.5" in length, plus it has two additional PCIe power connectors.

  • Architectural software-Lumion

Hello: I have a desktop model Pavillion p7-1037cb - Windows 7. I use it for architectural software; it runs Autodesk software fine.  However, I recently downloaded Lumion and the graphics are super extra slow.  The current graphics card is an ATI Radeon HD 4200; I'm looking to upgrade to a Nvidia GeForce GTX 770.  Will the power source be enough for the GeForce GTX770, the box says it requires 600W? and will the motherboard support the new graphics card?
    Thank you

  • Architecture software

sorry i didn't know where to put this but
i'm looking for architecture software for macs. i want one native to macs so it won't run slow. I need something that is compatible with the ibook and the macbook. I am going to use it for fun. so i need something that is pretty cheap but still lets me design houses, townhouses, condos, schools and malls
    thanks!!!

Glad to help. Hope you find what you're looking for.

  • Architectural design and visualization on a Mac?

    Hello everyone,
My first computer was a Mac and I had many models and have always been an apple fan, but I studied and worked in architecture and was forced to switch to PC because where I lived the standard was Autodesk software. Then I got into architectural visualization and 3D Studio Max was bought by Autodesk as well. I have wanted to switch back to Mac for many years now but I just haven't seen any way of doing it. So my first question is: Is there any software for the Mac that matches autodesk software such as Architecture 2008, Revit and 3D Studio Max?
The second question is: now that you can run Windows XP and Vista on a Mac, could I use software such as 3D Studio Max reliably on a Mac? (I saw on their website a little note that specifically says apple computers running windows are not supported, why not? What happens if you do? http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=5659453__)
And the last question is: does anyone know if Autodesk is planning to ever release their architecture software to work directly on Mac OS?
    Thanks to all in advance.

    Hi Roger,
First, of all thanks so much for answering my question. It has been hard to find out this information. I will definitely look into and try out ArchiCad.
    Roger Green wrote:
ArchiCad is a superb, very powerful building modelling program which uses the idea of a single building model from which you take all your 2D drawings such as plans, sections, elevations details, schedules and so on, but because you model the building, the 3D tools also allow you to produce high quality visualisations, renderings, and movies. <</div>
By what you tell me, it sounds that ArchiCad has been doing for some time now what Autodesk just recently issued as Building Information Modeling (BIM) on its Revit software.
    Roger Green wrote:
...and you can also export to a number of rendering programs. <</div>
Could you please give more detail about this? Is there any rendering program to which you can create a live reference and update the files after you change them in ArchiCad? Are there any rendering programs that work with rendering engines such as Mental Ray or V Ray?
I just found out that Autodesk makes a version of Maya that runs on OS. Have you tried rendering architectural models with Maya?
    Roger Green wrote:
I hope that this helps you to ditch the PC and get a proper computer! <</div>
It is sure a step in the right direction! Thanks again Roger.
If there are any other architects out there working with Macs I would also appreciate your thoughts on the matter.

  • MacBook for architecture student going to Singapore

    Hi!
I'm studying architecture in Poland. In august I'm going for one term to Singapore to study. I've got to buy a laptop. Now I'm working with Corel, AutoCAD, sometimes ArchiCAD and 3Dmax. Could you give me some advice on hardware with warranty valid around the world? Does anyone know what architectural software is commonly used in Singapore?
    Thanks in advance for replying.

  • I need to run architectural desktop, sketchup

and just about any other architectural software similar to the above two. Will I be ok with a macbook with a lot of RAM or should I just buy one of the lower end pros?

what about architectural desktop? I hear there's a similar to sketchup program made by sketchup but soley for Macs, Maya I think? Will that run easily on 2gb of RAM on a macbook?

  • I Would Like a "Expert's" config. of a new MBP

I was offered by my parants that they will but me a new MacBook Pro.  As much RAM as I want, the (solid stae) newer kind of HD, but about a year ago it was getting a bad rap from a lopt of comments I read on here.  I can't remember the exact name fo the HD, but I think it had solid state in it.  and I took a look at the new MBPs and there is a lot that is new to me.  My last MPB was about 4 years ago and did not have half as much of the functions and special parts as the newest one I could see online.
so, I am wondering for basic architecture (software use), i would like to start backing up but i never have excpet when I backed up on the CDs a long time ago,  and anything ele if someone gace you the chance to put together the most basic, but powerful MacBook Pro, what would you configure?  I do some arcitecture teaching on the side with grade school kids, and I teach online grad students in kinesiology and exercise rehabilitation.
Please anybody that can just put their ideal machine together, and any explnations I would appreciate it.  I will right off the bat go get the max in the RAM area.  Is it possible to get a battery that has a longer life?  I remember when I got this MBP there was supposed to be a  big difference but it has been the same maybe even a little worde than the previosu MAC.
this may sound stupid like a lot in this post, but is Lion the best and the lates OS.  I am getting the iPhone 4S from my sis so if there is anything I should get with the  MPB that I might use for the phone or visa-vera, I would like that.  I loved the Verizon MiFI2200 3G I had with this MBP, but it stopped working and no Verizon tech could get it to work, they suggested I go to the 4G.  I hear Verizon says they have 4G but they really don't.  somepone told me I could get a set-up that would turn the phone into a mobile hotspot but that may be beyond my mental ability.  I was thinking about just getting wither the Verizon Samsong 4g mobile hotspot or what replaced the MIFI22003G but in the 4G category.  the 3 G MIfi woked grest with my MBP but I have not read anything about the 4G that Verizon has out.  Both of my contracts ae up from my verizon phone and the MIFI2200 4G so they have a $50 NEw Every Two (which they stopped) but are still offering it to the people that had it coming so I have 2 of the $50 New Every Two rebate type $$ that I just subtract $50 from the any 2 devices.  I am using one for either the Samsong mobile hot spot or the MIFI 2200 4G (not sure if this is the right nae for the MIFI2200 3G replacement)
Also, is it better to get the machine and bring it back to the store so they can register the machine with the machine's name, and any other reason why I would want to take it back to the store?  I remember they did some things to may last one, like document some thing in various places which did help he a few times when asked for something by the genius bar, set up the One-to-One for me so I would sign in, I knew how many sessions I had, what topic areas I wanted to test, etc.
My final question, I am still using a CAT5 long kind of fryed ethernet cable.   A was reading a post on here that talked about the Blekin CAT6 ethernect cable is better if you take your machine to hotls that use the ethernet connection to get the internet, it will give you a slightly fast speed, independant of the speed the internet is gettting from the hotel.  Any thought on this or is still the basic CAT5 just as good?  I would like a little shorter one and more quality so the thing does not crack off from the main cable, the platic tab has a less chance of breaking off.
I think that is it.  It is a gift and I do not want to get anything and everything I can think of but I would like to get the best MacBook Pro the Experts would suggest.
I am hoping at least one or two experts will take uy questions seriously so I have some standard to go byt because there are so many new names for the latest MBP, I do not think I would know most of the devices I was selecting are.
Not sure if it possible, but does Mac come with USB 2.0 yet?  if so, I would like as many as those as I could.
Thanks.  I really do appreciate it.

There is no configuration of a MBP that will satisfy the needs of all users.  The variables are too many for the tasks that are required for the MBP to perform.
If cost is no object, the fastest CPU is a given as well as RAM.  Needs for same may be few and not often if ever used, but certainly will do no harm,
Storage is an issue of a HDD with greater capacity compared with the speed offered by SSD with lesser capacity.
Size can be important.  The convenience of portability of a 13" MBP with the larger and heavier 15" and 17' MBPs.
In the final analysis, you have to make these decisions.
    Ciao.

  • S10-2 is truly a royally disappointing piece of kit.

I have a formidable background covering PC architecture, software and hardware (but Im not here to blow my trumpet). Ever since I received bought my Netbook two weeks ago, after a few days had kicked in I rather wised that I had not....in fact I still have 2 weeks left in which I can return it for a full refund.
Im not going to talk about the legalities of whether it is fit for purpuse, but I do know that any sane person or judge (in the UK) would expect that if you have a computer that it is reasonable that you can upgrade it..... and that's where the fun starts !!!
    PROS:
..Lovely gimmicks such as Veriface, but can be fooled by a photo.
..Splashtop quick boot is nice, but Im still trying to figure out why you wouldnt want to boot in the operating system property.
..One Key Recovery. Personally I think it's a great idea, however I still like to perform a Ghost image of the whole hard drive
    CONS:
Too many to mention. Where do I start. Well, from a security perspective it would be nice to have granularity of file permissions (which is something the El Cheapo version of XP HOME and Windows 7 Starter do not offer). Me, I would have done some end user testing to see if the Netbook worked well with the market first, rather than engineering something then hoping the market would buy it.
Anyway, firstly the S10-2 came with XP Home SP3, which means it would not intsall XP PRO. So I created a slip streamed XP PRO and SP3 to create a bootable XP PRO SP3 CD that would boot on any machine other than the Lenovo S10-2 (why, not the S10-2, God only knows).
Being a Microsoft Partner and having access to all the software for evaluation purposes, I decided to install Windows 7 Professional. This installed perfectly although it took nearly an hour, but then some minor issues....veriface 3 doesn't work on Windows 7 !! Now, whilst Veriface is not a show stopper,I fail to understand why Lenovo would release some Windows 7 drivers/software, but not all of them. It''s kinda like me selling you a car without the engine.
Anyway, enough ranting and raving for now, I have bigger fish to fry.
However, will say that BARTPE got me out of some hairy issues especially with it's great support for Symantec Ghost.
Although, I said you cant set granular access to files within XP Home (natively), you can run SHRPUBW which will allow you to set shares.
QUESTIONS for Lenovo (or anyone that knows).
When will all the drivers/software be made available so that a user can use Windows 7 with all the software that they would have used in XP Home ????

    Humpty,
I noted the S10-2 was missing from the main navigation link on our support site, but could be found once on the consumer support site. I've noted this for the support team and expect the page to be updated soon.  In the meantime,   Here is the link to Win 7 32 bit drivers.
Your thread title and commentary seem  to reflect an overall level of  disappointment..  Aside from your understandable desire to install Win 7, how has the system functioned based on the XP preload?   How is the base hardware?  The design, weight, battery life, keyboard feel, etc?
What do you like best about it?  What would be highest on your list of things to improve?
Given the price point, how do you feel about the overall value of the system?
    Thanks for your feedback,
    Best regards,

  • MBP CD w/256Mb video or MBP C2D w/128Mb video?

    Hi.
Its a shame i am writing my first post in a PC machine..but the reason is im going to buy a MBP very soon.
Im going to use the machine for Architecture software (AUTOCAD 2D n 3D running on windows), Adobe creative suite CS2, etc...
The question is: should I buy a MBP CD w/256Mb Video or MBP C2D w/256Mb? both have 2.16GHz and 1Gb RAM.
Im going to buy it from the refurbished section and both are very close in the price. U$S1599 for the MBP C2D w/128mb video and U$S1499 for the MBP CD w/256mb video.
Could someone give me a hand with this decission? thanks a lot.
    buying my first MAC

If you are going to use the current version, 2007, of AutoCAD you might want to check the the system requirements. The difference with this version is that it does make use of the GPU although I'm not usre how much a difference VRAM will make.
Regarding your choice though, I'd probably go with the Core 2 Duo model. It runs cooler, has 802.11n capable hardware and is capable of 3GB RAM which will be important for apllications like Adobe Photoshop. Be aware that the 2.16GHz C2D model has "only" 128MB VRAM.

  • Simplifying Straight Line Paths

    Hey all,
new to the forum and really struggling with something at the moment, Using Illustrator CS4
I've imported a map from a DWG prepared in Archicad (vector based architecture software)
This map shows roads and buildings (they are paths in illustrator) and as you would imagine the roads are curved but rather than being drawn with curves they are composed of many many straight line paths and as I'm meaning to have a model laser cut from the Illustrator file I need to join these paths into longer paths so the laser cutting doesn't take forever.
As far as I can see it's fairly simple to simplify the number of anchor points on a curved path using the Object>Path>Simplify tool but simplifying multiple straight line paths that only have the slightest deviation in angle seems harder, or at least I can't work it out.
I have attached an image, The areas highlighted in green are examples of areas where there are too many paths and just one or two paths would be fine. It would be fine to either convert the paths to curved paths or just simply reduce the number of straight line paths that compose the curves.
Hope someone can help, Thx for your time

Apart from the current problem, you should take a look at the free plugin "Kartografie-Funktionen" if you do this kind of stuff regularly. http://www.ika.ethz.ch/plugins/index.html
It has a tool for simplifying paths, which works slightly different than Illustrator's

  • IMac any good for Architects ?

    Hello guys,
I am an Architect and i am planning to buy an iMac soon. Unfirtunately not all architecture software works on Mac OS.
Is it sensible enough to install windows 7 on iMac and use for aechitecture purpose ?
    Please comment.

Running Windows under BootCamp, a true dual boot configuration, is just as fast as on a PC. Running Windows as I do with Paralells, a virtual machine, is slower than a PC. The applications that I run aren't extremely intensive and I need to switch back and forth between OS X and Win frequently so I don't care that I'm taking a speed hit. When you run BootCamp your Mac IS a PC. The beauty of it is that when you're done with windows for the day you can reboot into
OS X and run your Mac stuff.

  • Upgrading Macbook Pro 10.4.11 os x...

    Hi there!
I have a few questions about upgrading my operating system. My system is as follows: 10.4.11 Tiger, Processor (2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo), Memory (2 GB)
I have a copy of 10.5 Leopard, as well as the one that follows, but I am worried if installing it will ruin what I currently have on my laptop. I'm running Parallels version 4 with windows xp (i think). Here is what I'm having concerns about, sorry I am not super tech savvy!
    - Will Parallels 4 be able to run efficiently on 10.5?
-Is upgrading to 10.5 from 10.4.11 really as simple as inserting the disc and letting it run? I'm worried I will lose Parallels and all of my architecture software such as AutoCAD, Revit, etc.
-I'm currently pretty close to being maxed out on memory. Will upgrading be an issue? And before you ask, yes, I have backed up my files onto an external drive.
-Anything else I should be concerned about? I don't have the money right now to be purchasing new expensive software or equipment so I'm freaking out that if I upgrade, it will destroy my laptop that I need for work and I will lose all of my programs.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks!

Mac OS X Leopard removes support for Classic apps. As Parallels 4 is not a Classic app, you will be able to keep using this application after upgrading to Mac OS X Leopard.

The upgrade will keep all your applications, including PowerPC apps. Also, as you have got a backup, you can restore it if you have got any problem.

Delete files from your hard drive or you may have performance problems. Then, upgrade to Leopard.

    Nothing else.
Also, instead of upgrading to Mac OS X Leopard, I recommend you to upgrade to Mac OS X Snow Leopard, which is a more modern and stable OS X version, and it is quite cheap > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
In both cases, after upgrading, open  > Software Update, and install the most recent Mac OS X version.

How can WebLogic Server be started to attach with a remote debugger to
    the java
    process?
    - JDK 1.2.2
To enable remote debugging for JDK 1.2.2 you have to install the Java

Debugging Architecture. You can also use (for NT) jdwp.dll, dt_shmem.dll
    and dt_socket.dll
    from the JDK 1.3.
Start the java process with the following properties:
    java -Xdebug -Djava.compiler=NONE -Xnoagent -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_shmem,address=debugaddr,server=y,suspend=n
    ... weblogic.Server
To attach with jdc to the java process, use:
    jdb -attch debugaddr
If you need to debug across a network, you may also use transport=dt_socket
    instead
    of dt_shmem.

Good news: this most likely isn't a problem with your DW software. (According to what I've read on this error)
Bad news: It's probably an (unrecoverable) error with the file(s). It most commonly occurs with .rvt (architectural software) files. When i looked the error up it said the only thing that can be done is to use a back up file that hasn't been corrupted.
With a CSS file, you might want to try opening it in Notepad (Windows) or TextEdit (Mac). If it'll open there you can copy the code and paste it into a new CSS file and overwrite the corrupted one(s).
If it won't open in a text editor, it's probably broken beyond use.
