Architecture of E-Commerce
My friends say that E-Commerce, E-Sourcing, E-Recruiting, E-Learning have the same architecture:
ECC enhpx (best if enhp4) as the backend
PI for external provider
BI for reporting,
TREX for searching
they are all add-ons to EP7
Would you please confirm this statement is true and accurate?
I have no access to SMP so that I cannot verify.
Thanks!
It all depends on with what perspective you make these statements. If your friends are from SAP Basis / System side, and if you view these applications in the good-old SAP NetWeaver Refrigerator model, then, every application is same in that context and perspective.
The one-description-fits-all-applications doesn't work well here and it is not accurate.
They are true about the services used by these applications. The reporting (BI), search (TREX) but the adaptation and implementation of these services are widley different betwee each application. But again, these services PI, BI, TREX are not mandatory components for all of the applications.
For example, you can use E-Commerce without BI and PI. If you are running E-Commerce with ERP (and not through CRM) then TREX is also not mandatory.
I suggest you use SAP Help portal and that too provides lot of good information.

Best SOAP Web Services Architecture for E-Commerce
Hi there,
I have developed an E-Commerce system following the normal way of
developing Java web applications (all classes and JSP files in one Eclipse web project).
I want to modularize the application, I want to split the application into
two applications:
1. The core app, with SOAP web services methods
2. The client (front-end JSP files and some servlets to request/receive responses from the SOAP web services core app)
Basically, I want the servlets in the client app to call the core SOAP web services app for data such as
get product by ID, get customer by ID, etc...
The core SOAP web services app would then return a response in an XML format, which I then
would map to Java objects at the client application.
My questions are:
1. Is this the right way to go?
2. Where should the session management be? At the client app?
Hope you can help?
I have been thinking about a proper architecture for 2 years and honestly it's been giving me sleeping problems.
Thanks!It works. Thanks,

Is there a problem in web-services.xml?

Help using JMS in a network/general architecture
Hi everybody :
We are working on the development of a distributed application. The architecture of the system is something like this:
- A dispatcherthat receives requests (in a string shape) via http post. This unit has to encapsulate this request in a object and fordward such a petition to the correct service according a parameter of the request string.
- A little number of services (4 or 5) that wait for requests delivered by the dispatcher. When a petition arrives, is attended to, and a response is sent to the client, using the http post that the client has used to send us the initial request. The computation complexity could be severe (access to DB, on-demand compilations, multimedia handling...).
The distribution arises when we wanted to place each service on different machines due a heavy amount of requests.
On a first approach, we are considering to use a servlet to manage the requests and JMS as middleware messaging service, as we want to provide an efficient communication layer between the modules of our application.
Here come my doubts:
- Would be the system more efficient if the service-providers are some kind of Enterprise Java Beans? And servlets?
- I have readed the JMS and de JNDI tutorial. I have performed many tests in local mode, and i want now to do the same in a network mode... could somebody orient me? How do could i bind a connection factory with a specific resource across the network? In coding time or in deploying time?
Help will be very very appreciated!!!!!
Thank you very much for reading this message
Greetings from Maria, Spain (europe)Hello Maria,
You mention several things regarding architecture. I'll try to iterate them for you. As always this is just one persons idea/opionion.
Receive Request from HTTP Posts. (Dispatcher)
-- Sounds like an XML String morphed into an object via servlet. You could standardize on SOAP if it's not too much overhead.
Services - High computation...
Let jms receive and queue these requests. A service delegate can spawn threads to deal with the complex computations. I say Queue so you can cap the active thread count and pause the delegators thread creation due to any memory / cpu constraints...
As far as JMS is concerned I'm unaware of your transactional requirements. In enterprise systems I have written, everything must be transacted and audited. JMS has a nice model for this. You could move to a pub/sub architecture as well.
Scalability - (Distribution arises) - Each machine can maintain it's own queue and the servlets can distribute to them. Or you can pub/sub them via a dispatcher, it's own machine if desired - and let each machine act as a listener. A nice model as the amount of services grows.
- Now that I've only reiterated what you've tried..
Would be the system more efficient if the service-providers are some kind of Enterprise Java Beans? And servlets?
-In my opionion for the high volume HTTP requests, servlets can lift the load.
-You system has a high level of requests and load on your CPU. I'll also assume that transactions and auditing are required. As I'm sure you well know EJB is not the fastest animal in the forest. I would not use Message Driven Beans as you will have a hard time tunning performance within an EJB Container.
- Now after I've said all that any fallout and persistance requrements from each service can leverage EJB's. Just remember that EJB's lend themselves well to web/commerce apps. I have no idea of your applications context so I'm taking a stab. There are wonderful tools in the EJB architecture, however, just because you've chosen Java doesn't mean you have to use EJB's. If speed in an issue for these services ( persisted or session level ) perhaps a mix is what your desire. ( I find session beans to be much better accessors than there sluggish entity brothers. )
JNDI - Create a Service Locator that abstract the lookups for your services. Depending on how far you want to go. Our Service Locator can look up a multitude of contexts. Be it Weblogic/Websphere or a file system. There is no magic to it you just have to plug and play the contexts.
"I have readed the JMS and de JNDI tutorial. I have performed many tests in local mode, and i want now to do the same in a network mode... could somebody orient me? How do could i bind a connection factory with a specific resource across the network? In coding time or in deploying time?"
--I would take the performance hit on late binding and use caching to try and gain some back. Below is a small example...
-- All in all, It would help you to become more familiar with the EJB spec if your planning on that path. You soon come to notice it's features ( and particular quirks ).
Good Luck,
Hope this helps

Hi all,
We need to implement an portal with e-commerce and i ask for all, what is the best architecture for this implementation?
We are thinking in use the Enterprise Portal with webdynpro for Java. what about this?
best regards,
DouglasMY suggestion would be to use a Hardware Load Balancer to act as a reverse proxy to your Portal servers. This creates a more secure environment.
You can also use the sap web dispatcher, however, my preference is a separate hardware load balancer. One major advantage to this is that when using SSL, you can have the SSL termination do on the LB, and removing that stress from the actual portal servers.
Lookup the sap sizer tool if you are looking for memory and processor requirement for your portal servers.

Architectural considerations on WLPS JSP tags
Hello,
I'm now looking at the WLPS (2.0) examples, more specifically to the
BuyBeans example.
I have experience in developping web applications using J2EE
(servlets-jsp-ejb).
Something in the bean example is very disturbing to me : I've always tried
to maintain a clear separation of concerns between the different blocks of
an application, namely business logic, control and view. Those of you
familiar with it will have recognized the MVC (model-view-controller)
paradigm.
And in the bean example, I see the JSP full of tags mixing the view and
controller roles, even some of business logic sometimes.
So my question is : is there a way of using the personalization/commerce
server while maintaining the separation of roles described above? And if so,
is it an efficient way of working or does it create too much overhead from a
development time point of view?
I hope I'm being clear enough. Please ask for clarifications if needed.
Thanks in advance for sharing your opinion on this subject
NicolasNicolas,
I agree that the integration between PS and CS is not as tight as it could
be and we are working (hard!) on improving this right now. There are options
however, and a limted integration between the two is possible. The
DestinationDeterminers are pluggable so it should be possible to write
custom code to do both. As you say, this may not be an option on a tight
deadline if you need to deliver immediately.
Incidentally, the main reason we did not want to replicate the "old"
BuyBeans demo was that it contained a lot of code that was specific to the
BuyBeans site and look and feel. We wanted to create a "template" site that
was a much better starting point for users to customize.
I appreciate your comments, and I think you will be very pleasantly
surprised with coming releases which address things like graphical webflow
definition and move PS (and Portal) onto the Webflow model.
Sincerely,
Daniel Selman

Thank you Daniel,
I actually had a good look at the commerce server 3.1. You're right,
pipelines and
webflow are useful things, although the latter is a bit tricky since there
is no editor yet.
The big problem with version 3.1 is that the perso. server and thecommerce
server
are not compatible anymore. I guess that's why the buyBeans example isout,
and
the new commerce example (the catalog) is not a portal.
They are incompatible because with the PS, everything has to be sent tothe
Portal
Service Manager, and with the CS, everything has to be sent to the webflow
manager.
It might be possible to somehow combine them, but it's certainly not
straightforward
and we don't have time to play around in my actual project. I asked a BEA
instructor
about it but he had no solution.
Since the portal look&feel was a priority to us, wo we decided to drop the
CS, and
use only the PS.
Any comments on this subject ?

Nicolas,
MVC considerations were a big part of the rationale behind the Webflow
and
Pipeline architecture used in WLCS 3.1. I suggest you take a look at the
latest release, which does a much better job at handling this (complex)
topic.

Hi all,
A client found in a SAP Portal, information about pre-configured solution ECC E-Commerce, and want the implement.
The problems:
1-The client does NOT want to implement CRM, just wants to deploy preconfigured E-Commerce. Is possible?
2-The client already installed SAP ECC 6.0, the two products (E-Commerce and ECC) can work together?
3-What is the staffing and time to implement this solution?
BR.Hi Ramesh,
You need to follow the "CR850 ECC Internet Sales.pdf". you will get that in the SAP Market place.
and also to get to know the ISA framework and its architecture you also need to follow the "SAP_ISA_70_DevAndExtGuide.pdf".
Hope this is helpful.

can anybody give fair idea on crm ecommerce with EP, i need to know about technical architecture, BP details of E Selling and how it is diffrent from E Commerce B2B Portal.
any detail document, please mail me on <removed by SAP Community Network Moderator>
HimanshuHi Abdul,
Base Customization starts with the CR100 - BASE CUSTOMIZATION. You need to have a good understanding of the CRM Business Transaction, Business Partners, Organization Modules and Products related technical details.
As for the technical Questions, the best points is SDN as it contains mostly the live questions and scenarios which no one else will be able to provide you. Also put a debug point in the existing code and try to get into deep as much as possible.
For any doubts you can always refer SDN.
For the business functionality you can start with the following:

Any real-world e-commerce application using HTMLDB?
Hi,
Any real-world e-commerce application using HTMLDB?
If yes, can you please provide the web links?
Thanks!
SteveThat's why I said "depends on your definition"
According to the Wikipedia, the definition of e-commerce is -
"Electronic commerce, e-commerce or ecommerce consists primarily of the distributing, buying, selling, marketing,
and servicing of products or services over electronic systems such as the Internet and other computer networks."So nothing mentioned there about the size/number of transactions ;)
So, is your question "Has anybody built a site in HTMLDB that handles the number of transactions that Amazon handles?"
I'd be surprised if the answer were Yes, however HTMLDB (depending on your architecture) is capable of scaling to a huge number of users.
Do you have a particular application/project in mind, or is it just a hypothetical question? -
Communication between CRM and ERP for E-commerce scenario
Question more on lines of system architecture design.
We are planning to implement CRM E-commerce and wanted to find out more detail about the communication between CRM and ERP systems. Do they need to communicate in real time for this application, or is it mainly initial and delta loads? Is the amount of data exchanged huge ( necessitating both systems to be on the same network, or can they be on separate geographical locations )?
We also understand that E-commerce can also be done only using ERP. How does that differ from the CRM version?Hey Sanket,
Q 1 . Do CRM and ECC need to communicate in real time for Ecommerce application, or is it mainly initial and delta loads
Ans. CRM and ECC communicate using RFC connections which further uses TCP/IP as the protocol. The communication can be both real time { delta loads} or offline {initial download}.
Q2 .Is the amount of data exchanged huge ( necessitating both systems to be on the same network, or can they be on separate geographical locations )?
Ans. The amount of data can be huge hence its preferable that both systems to be on the same network.
Q 3. We also understand that E-commerce can also be done only using ERP. How does that differ from the CRM version
Ans.Theres no difference functionally but technically the application connects to the ECC system using JCO to execute all the RFC enabled function modules.

Fri Dec 01 11:04:40 GMT+05:30 2Hello Muffy,
It looks like you do not have WLS 5.1 service pack 6 installed correctly. I
say this because I do not see the sp6 message at the top of your log and I saw
this message in your log:
org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Element "weblogic-enterprise-bean" allows no
further input; "transaction-isolation" is not allowed

I have reinstalled Mac OSX 10.6.3 and done the updates from there.
I have reinstalled ilife 11 from disk and done the updates.
I have deleted all the suggested files and then redone install and updates.
I have tried just reinstalling iphoto and doing updates.
Is there any way to get a replacement - /Library/Frameworks/iLifeSlideshow.framework/Versions/A/iLifeSlideshow
file with the right architecture? -
Can you create a website in DW then upload it to BC for commerce site?
So confusing working from BC in DW. I originally thought that I could take my Muse or Dreamweaver websites, upgrade in order to get the ecommerce features, upload product spreadsheet, figure out how to populate the pages, and publish.
Now it seems BC just complicates and confuses the process with its addition of modules and tags. Why does it have to be so hard? BC Gurus videos show features that don’t show up in my version. Can’t find templates to start from. Waisting hours trying to learn the relationship between the two (BC/DW). Seems like BC commerce is more work than other all-in-one packages. All I want is to take my design and make eCommerce operational.
First mistake: Current project designed in Muse. When I upgraded from basic to commerce3, and BC started throwing in their modules, I got totally lost.
Then, I imported BC site in DW, now I have all the mess from Muse plus BC and don’t have anything that I recognize which I can work with.
All I need is a clear step-by-step list that will walk me through it. There are way too many videos and tutorials that are vague and unhelpful. Personally, videos take too long to sit through and try to take notes without having to pause and play - inefficient.
Ask the question “what’s a module?” and I can’t get a clear definition.
Same with “tag”! What is it, where do they go, I don’t even know what to ask.Welcome to the web industry, BC makes things a lot easier with how it is produced and the avoidance of a lot of server side development if you was to use other systems. Managing layouts, tags, modules, CSS and HTML and Javascript is kind of basics of the profession to master.
You will find guides showing features not availible to a plan if you are only on say a webasic plan etc as you noted. Muse is really not the best thing to get into not just BC but web design with, it does not teach you anything you need to know to properly create websites, especially even remotely more complex things. There is no clear step by step I am afraid, You have guides provided on these forums, you have the BC knowledgebase and sites like BC Gurus but really its learning what things are, how things are. Learning CSS, HTML, Javascript etc and implementing as you do so.
A module is something that renders output of content in varius forms such as a menu or a web form. It can render a list of items created by a web app and more. A tag is a set of values or rendering content within the modules like web apps or other elments such as eCommerce.
All of this is outline and more on the guide sites such as BC Gurus and the KB:

Edit an OS Commerce template in dreamweaver
Hi
I downloaded an os commerece template for my first e commerce store and everything is set up ok, just need to edit the whole template to my products and colours. I am trying to remove the stamp at the bottom that says designed by monstertemplate, with their website links at the bottom but not having any luck. I can see the the links code when I turn on the live code view in dreamweaver but cant see it when I go to codes to try and edit it. Maybe I am missing something and would appricate any help. This is the website:
http://creativeinky.com/site/index.php - The links I want to remove are at the footer of the website. This has not been edited yet and the store is not functional.
This is what I see in codes:( I have tried to remove oscommerce at the top but that does not help). Which code is for the stamp at the bottom links as I cannot see it in this code view where I can edit it. Please help.

What architecture is best for accurate data logging
Hello,
I'm desiging some LabVIEW code for a standard DAQ application that is required to plot about 100 variables onto the screen on several different graphs and numeric indicators, as well as perform some simple feedback control and log data into a file once a second.
I've done this before, and used a simple state machine architecture, where one state takes care of my logging, and I have a timer vi in there that countsdown 1 second and then writes to file. However, this method makes me miss a second every once in a while.
I started looking into the producer/consumer architecture as a possible remedy for this. Because I hear it's good for running two things at different times, so I"ll have my quicker loop handling data acquistion, plots and feedback control, and my slower logging loop, executing once a second. But I don't see how to implement this
questions:
1. is a simple producer consumer the right topology for my application?
2. when I create my queue do I create it a 100 element array (my data for logging) and then enqueue that in my producer loop from my data acquistion, then pass that to the logging VI.... this seems wrong to me, cause I'm going to be enqueing alot of 100 element arrays... and will be de-queing them slowly at once a second..
3. How do I trigger my consumer loop to execute every second, should I set it up as a timed while loop? or should something from the producer loop tell it to?
I'm sure this is a pretty standard thing to do, I'm jus tnot sure how to implment the correct architecture.
much thanks!Ok, let's try this. I've put together an example that should do what you need. I put notes in the block diagram, but essentially it runs data in a while loop at whatever execution rate you specify, then sends the data to another graph (or in your case, a log) every one second. Basically, I've used a 100ms execution rate for the while loop, then every 10th time (you can change this if you want), it sends a boolean 'true' to a case structure within the while loop that contains the enqueue element. The graphs that I included show that it does indeed add a new point to the second graph once a second while the first one is adding a point every 100ms.
The actual wiring of this Vi could be cleaner for sure, but it was a quick and dirty example I put together. Hopefully this will help you accomplish what you're trying to do.
