Architecture of new Petstore application
I was wondering if there is any architecture document of the new Petstore application that uses JSF, AJAX, JMaki etc.
If yes, then what is the URL of the document
Thanks

Hi,
1. The Map module in particular, most the websites
using Google mashups do not require so much server
side plumbing, any particular reason of this
approach?The page that displays the maps (you can see a live demo at http://webdev2.sun.com/petstore/faces/mapAll.jsp and click "Map Category") has a lot of features. Beside just using the google map APIs to show a map with data points pulled from PS, it also dispays a list of items in a left side bar with pop up balloon details) So for one thing it has some extra features so some extra code.
Using the google map Javascript library to just display the google map on a page with data provided from your app can be simpler, you could just use the google map Javascript library APIs directly in the page.
In our case we decided to wrap that map functionality into a JSF component so that people could re-ues the functionality. It can be tricky to build a JSF component and the coding burden is placed on the component developer, but once you have a JSF component it can be easy for the page author to use the JSF component. We use the same mapping JSF components in several apps and it is alos included in some tools etc, so re-use was useful in our case. For another app, you might not need to wrap it in JSF.
Wrapping in JSF does add some extra plumbing code.
So in general, wrapping a JS library like google maps in a JSF component, can have some extra work, but some benfits as well. It depends how you plan to use the functionality, if you plan for re-use then JSF is one way to accomplish this. It imposes a certain architecture on that functionality.
Also, in terms of back end plumbing, also you do need a web request on youre server to process the request, and return a page with UI and data. We stroed the data in a database so this has some backend code as well. For example, that page displays a list of pets in that area in a left side bar, so need to persist and retrieve that data from DB. Also, google maps requires longitute and latitute, so you need to get that data too. Since we store addresses for each Item (pet info) in the DB, and google needs latitude and longitude, when we add a new address ad Item to DB, we also use yahoo geocoding service mashup to lookup cooresponding latitude and longitude and store that along with other address data, so we dont have to look it up from yahoo for each client map viewing request, instead we can just pull the info from DB along with other Item info.
So there is some necessary extra data and plumbing and coding required, even if you do not wrap it in a JSF component.

Sean

J2EE PetStore Application -- RDBMSException when starting server
Folks,
I'm trying to install Sun's J2EE PetStore application using the instructions at: http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/Programming/deployathon2/BEAreadme.html#dlapp
When I attempt to start the WebLogic server using the "startPetStore.cmd" file, I receive the exception below. Has anyone got any helpful advice to offer?
Thanks,

use utils.Schema to update the petStoreDB with <petstore>\WLSrc\db\petstore.ddl

Configuring PetStore application
I am following an article "Run J2EE Deployathon Online! With BEA
WebLogic" to deploy the Java PetStore application on WebLogic Server.
Here is the link:
http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/J2EE/deployathon2/BEAreadme.html
At Step 5: I couldn't find port2WL.cmd script file to unpack estore.ear
file. Anybody could tell me if you found the port2WL.cmd somewhere
in BEA system's web site?
Thanks!Hi, Gene.
I didn't run this demo. However, I knew that you can use JAR to unpack EAR
file:
jar xvf estore.ear

Hi All,
Can I debug the petstore application? Does BEA provide the build script for the petstore application? So that we can make some changes to petsore application and deploy it again? This I want to do just for debugging purpose.
Thanks,
AmarHi Amar,
Attached are two build scripts (build.cmd for Windows and build.sh for
UNIX). To use these scripts:
1. place the script into the samples/petstore directory of your weblogic
distribution
2. edit the JAVA_HOME and WL_HOME variables to point to the root directory
of your JDK and WebLogic distribution respectively
3. run the script
A new ear file will be created in the samples/petstore directory. These
scripts will be included in future versions of WebLogic.
Thanks,
Jim Rivera

New Web Application not creating correctly
I'm having an odd occurrence happen about 50% of the time right now when creating new web applications during my migration from SP2010 to SP2013.
During creating a web application in Central Admin, I can get through the first setup page, then get to the "This shouldn't take long" page and will sit there for 30+ minutes. I end up closing the window and will see that the Web application is there in
Central admin, and sometimes the DB will be created, other times not, not a big issue since I'm mounting a sp2010 database to this web application.
What I do notice is that either a IIS site will either not be created at all, or it will be created, but the Virtual Folder is empty. When trying to delete the Web Application through central admin or PowerShell it will hang for hours until the next day
when it's finally deleted. During this time I am not able to create any other web applications. It's usually at this time that I can successfully create a new web applications but even that is unreliable.
Has anyone ran into this issue or can suggest any workarounds to get this working? I'm wondering if copying the contents of another web application's virtual directory to the failed web application's virtual directory will be a workaround. I still need to
verify if creating a web application through PowerShell gives me the same headache but at the moment I'm currently waiting for a web application to delete.Finally got this resolved after an 8 hour call with Microsoft. After finally getting the Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Web Application service to restart (took 4 hours) We found that changing the Shutdown time in the Web Application Pool for the Central
Admin pool to 400 allowed for the Web Application to complete successfully.
I'm still confused to why everything is taking so long now to complete so i'll have to look into that next.
Folks, this is a minor problem that seems to be creeping up more and more. I personally have performed over 8 installs in various environments. I have seen this issue in 6 out of the 8 environments I have created. All servers I have tried a variation of
software. In MOST of my tests, this seems to be a problem. Not sure why they decide to recycle the App Pool just before they perform an "Virtual Directory Copy." Here are the results of my tests. I was very methodical in my testing and made sure these were
clean downloads every time. As you will see, I tried variations of hardware increases, physical to virtual, database versions and patch levels...etc.

Create a new web application, how shall I update the file server.xml
Hi,
I will create a new web application, i.e named newApp. Then I create a file structure as follows:
- <server-root>/newApp
- <server-root>/newApp/WEB-INF
- <server-root>/newApp/WEB-INF/classes
Then I must tell the server that I have created a new web application. Then I must update my file server.xml, How shall I do this and where in the file shall I type in the new information?
I use windows XP Pro, and Tomcat 4.1.27.
My server.xml file looks like below:
<!-- Example Server Configuration File -->
<!-- Note that component elements are nested corresponding to their
parent-child relationships with each other -->
<!-- A "Server" is a singleton element that represents the entire JVM,
which may contain one or more "Service" instances. The Server
listens for a shutdown command on the indicated port.
Note: A "Server" is not itself a "Container", so you may not
define subcomponents such as "Valves" or "Loggers" at this level.

<!-- Comment these entries out to disable JMX MBeans support -->
<!-- You may also configure custom components (e.g. Valves/Realms) by
including your own mbean-descriptor file(s), and setting the
"descriptors" attribute to point to a ';' seperated list of paths
(in the ClassLoader sense) of files to add to the default list.
e.g. descriptors="/com/myfirm/mypackage/mbean-descriptor.xml"

HOWTO in the Tomcat 4.0 documentation bundle for more detailed
instructions):
* Download and install JSSE 1.0.2 or later, and put the JAR files
into "$JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/ext".
* Execute:
%JAVA_HOME%\bin\keytool -genkey -alias tomcat -keyalg RSA (Windows)
$JAVA_HOME/bin/keytool -genkey -alias tomcat -keyalg RSA (Unix)
with a password value of "changeit" for both the certificate and
the keystore itself.
By default, DNS lookups are enabled when a web application calls
request.getRemoteHost(). This can have an adverse impact on
performance, so you can disable it by setting the
"enableLookups" attribute to "false". When DNS lookups are disabled,
request.getRemoteHost() will return the String version of the
IP address of the remote client.

Context initCtx = new InitialContext();
Context envCtx = (Context) initCtx.lookup("java:comp/env");
UserDatabase database =
(UserDatabase) envCtx.lookup("userDatabase");

<!-- PersistentManager: Uncomment the section below to test Persistent
Sessions.
saveOnRestart: If true, all active sessions will be saved
to the Store when Catalina is shutdown, regardless of
other settings. All Sessions found in the Store will be
loaded on startup. Sessions past their expiration are
ignored in both cases.
maxActiveSessions: If 0 or greater, having too many active
sessions will result in some being swapped out. minIdleSwap
limits this. -1 or 0 means unlimited sessions are allowed.
If it is not possible to swap sessions new sessions will
be rejected.
This avoids thrashing when the site is highly active.
minIdleSwap: Sessions must be idle for at least this long
(in seconds) before they will be swapped out due to
activity.
0 means sessions will almost always be swapped out after
use - this will be noticeably slow for your users.
maxIdleSwap: Sessions will be swapped out if idle for this
long (in seconds). If minIdleSwap is higher, then it will
override this. This isn't exact: it is checked periodically.
-1 means sessions won't be swapped out for this reason,
although they may be swapped out for maxActiveSessions.
If set to >= 0, guarantees that all sessions found in the
Store will be loaded on startup.
maxIdleBackup: Sessions will be backed up (saved to the Store,
but left in active memory) if idle for this long (in seconds),
and all sessions found in the Store will be loaded on startup.
If set to -1 sessions will not be backed up, 0 means they
should be backed up shortly after being used.
To clear sessions from the Store, set maxActiveSessions, maxIdleSwap,
and minIdleBackup all to -1, saveOnRestart to false, then restart
Catalina.

You have to add a <servlet> element to this file.
Something like this:
<servlet>
<servlet-name>blabla</servlet-name>
<servlet-class>blablapackage.Blablaclass</servlet-class>
<init-param>...</init-param>
</servlet>
Now this may not solve your problem. Make sure you refer to your servlets using their full qualified names.btw, just to be sure, what is your definition of "servlet"? (i mean: any java class or only javax.servlet.Servlet) -
How do I move a photo into an album in the new Photos application?
How do I move a photo into an album in the new Photos application?
The simplest way is to show the Sidebar at all times - you can reveal it with options-command-S ⌥⌘S.
With the sidebar visible, you can simply drag the photos from the Moments or other albums to the album in the sidebar. You can select and drag multiple photos at a time by selecting the first photo, holding down the shift key and selecting more photos. If the album does not yet exist, select the photos and press ⌘N for "File > New album" to create a new album with the selected photos. -

Hmm, not sure. Try posting your question on
weblogic.developer.interest.examples. Perhaps someone there might be
familiar with this problem.

Error in Creating New Web Application SharePoint 2013
Everything was working fine but today when i try to create a new web application i am getting the following error.It's happening whenever i am trying to create a new web application.
The directory C:\inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\26060 is already being used by another IIS Web Site. Choose a different root directory for your new Web application.
But this port 26060 was not being used before and if i try to create new web application again then the error message occurs with the port number of the new web application.
Please help.Hi HelloFragrance,
Are you using a host header when creating these web apps? If so have you tried creating without a host header? Also are you logged in with the Server with the Admin account? Check this out: (taken from Jeremy Taylor's
blog)
" 1. Ensure you have a proper dns name / entry in the hosts file of your server for the new url you are wanting to create.
2. Ensure you have typed in the ‘host header’ typed in when creating the new web application.
3. If this doesnt work, open IIS Manager – Start>run> inetmgr> and verify the home directory – it could be located on a different drive."
Also have you tried creating through Powershell and see if you run into the same issue or not?

Hope this helps!
Thanks!

Runtime error and unable to create new web application
Hi
when i create new web application i faced this error Runtime error and unable to create new web application.
in this farm we have
2 wfe servers
2 application servers.
adilAdil,
There could be many reason like IIS issue, Space issue, Permission issue, SQL issue which is not possible us to guess rather
you need to jump in the SharePoint log(Program Files\Common files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS) and find out the specific error log its throwing after which trouble shoot can be start.
You can refer few similar threads here -

How to stop the new health application from Count the steps/ woking background?
how to stop the new health application from Count the steps/ woking background?
I really need your helpI agree with Mr. Hall that using mx.controls.Alert in Flex may be a better route.
Show the Alert like this:
// show an alert with a question and yes and no choices
Alert.show( "Would you like to go to the Adobe Forums?", "Question",
Alert.YES | Alert.NO, this, closeHandler, null, Alert.YES );
Then handle the response in the closeHandler() function:
protected function closeHandler( closeEvent:CloseEvent ):void
if( event.detail == Alert.YES )
navigateToURL( new URLRequest('http://forums.adobe.com'), '_self' );
else if( event.detail == Alert.NO )
// they chose no
The following documentation on Alerts may be helpful:

Let me know if that helps...

How do you change the distance units in the new Maps application on Mavericks from KM to miles?
The scale in Maps follows your regional settings in System Preferences > Language & Region > Region.
Selecting United States, for example, will use English units (feet and statute miles).
There may be other methods I'm unaware of. -

I've tried unsuccessfully to move over to the new Photos application. Every time I press the get started button it does well until it reaches 50%. There it hangs. I do have a large number of raw & jpg images in my pictures directory, but iPhoto seemed ok with it previously. I did leave it running over night and it was still at 50% the next morning. I am running on a 2011 MBP 17" running OS X 10.10.3. I have 400G of free space. I'm ok to throw away my old iPhoto library. I only used it for organizing. I use Adobe PS & LR for editing. I want to be able to do a similar thing with the new Photo Application. Timeline the photos, send them to iCloud and distribute them to my devices ... iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch
