Architecture requirements of Java APIs

We are developing an application in Java Server Faces utilizing NetBeans 6.0.
How do I find the specifications for the required JSP version, J2EE version, JDK version
in order to determine what version of web application server (in this case JBOSS) I
need?
Perhaps a simpler way of putting it, where can I find a matrix of compatibility between
different Java APIs that also shows minimum required supporting technology versions?

Your J2EE bundle should have the jars for JSP and core JDK, and Sun offers a package download that includes NetBeans with your J2EE SDK. So whatever is bundled together in that monster download is pretty much guaranteed to work together. The question then is which version of the J2EE bundle you need to be compatible with JBoss. That would depend on the version of JBoss that you are running. From the [install guide|http://labs.jboss.com/file-access/default/members/jbossas/freezone/docs/Installation_Guide/beta500/html-single/index.html] for JBoss Beta 5.0, here's the following quote: "You must have a working installation of JDK 1.5 before you install JBoss Application Server." So the thing to do is find out what JBoss version you are running, look up the required J2EE SDK you need for it, and install that bundle. Incidentally, here is the link to the downloads for 1.5 + NetBeans (you want the one that says 'J2EE + tools')

  • Unable to raise password expiry warning exception in OID using JAVA API

    Hi,
    We are maintaing the user information for our application in OID(9.2). During logon, it is required that a warning is given to the user according to the value set in "Password Expiration Warning" parameter.
    A pl/sql program (using DBMS_LDAP/DBMS_LDAP_UTL packages) written to test password expiry raises the PWD_EXPIRE_WARN exception as expected. However we are unable to simulate the same using the JAVA APIs.
    We did try some thing like the following:
    public class SampleExpire {
    public static void main(String argv[])
    throws NamingException {
    // Create InitialDirContext
    InitialDirContext ctx = ConnectionUtil.getDefaultDirCtx( "TCS-UUODC4",
    "4032",
    "cn=orcladmin",
    "welc0me" );
    System.out.println("Hello");
    // Create User Objects
    User myuser = null,
    try {
    // Create User using a subscriber DN and the User DN
    myuser = new User ( ctx,
    Util.IDTYPE_DN,
    "uid=C100013, ou=People, o=UUSD",
    Util.IDTYPE_DN,
    "ou=People, o=UUSD",
    false );
    catch ( UtilException e ) {
    * Exception encountered in User object constructor
    System.out.println("User creation failed");
    // Authenticate User
    try {
    myuser.authenticateUser(ctx,User.CREDTYPE_PASSWD,"Z100013");
    catch ( UtilException e ) {
    * Authenticate fails
    System.out.println("Authentication failed");
    } // End of SampleExpire.java
    The authenticate user does not raise any exception.
    Am I missing something ?

    Hello ,
    Can anyone told me how i can retrieve all the groups that exist in my livecyle using JAVA API.

    JDEVELOPER
    JDEVELOPER is Oracle's Java development tool designed for coding / development,
    testing / debugging, and deployment of Java Applications to the IAS and
    RDBMS platforms.
    With the java software api's being in a constant state of evolution, each new
    release of Jdeveloper adds support for the "then current" version of the java
    software api's, if it does not already have it implemented.

    8i(1.0.0-UNIX) 2.0 1.0 1.0 816
    The IAS product contains two Java Virtual Machines (JVM) within it's
    architecture.
    They are called :
    1) APACHE JSERV servlet engine
    2) ORACLE ENTERPRISE JAVA ENGINE (EJE)
    APACHE JSERV servlet engine
    The APACHE JSERV servlet engine is an EXISTING product licensed from the
    apache group which supports the servlet api 2.0.ONLY.
    The APACHE JSERV product does not support ANY JSP's unless the customer
    installs a third party jsp engine.
    The IAS 8i/9i which has the APACHE JSERV product embedded in it, comes with
    Oracle's JSP engine (OJSP) already integrated into it. OJSP supports JSP's up
    to the specific JSP engine version documented in the Oracle Universal
    Installer (OUI) for the 8.1.7 RDBMS or the IAS products. It is also documented
    in the product's release notes.
    Oracle ENTERPRISE JAVA ENGINE (EJE)
    The EJE formerly known as :
    1) Oracle 8i Java Virtual Machine (JVM)
    2) JSERVER component,
    3) Aurora JVM
    was originally releas ed in the RDBMS 8.1.5 database with jdk 1.1.6 based java
    support.
    The currently supported versions of the Oracle 8i RDBMS, versions 2 and 3,
    also known as Version 8.1.6 and 8.1.7, respectively, provides a jdk 1.2.1
    based java virtual machine support.
    "EJE" Version 816
    This EJE, found in rdbms 8.1.6 and IAS 8i, contains support for the ejb
    api 1.0, corba, and java stored procedures.
    "EJE" Version 817
    This EJE, found in rdbms 8.1.7 and IAS 9i, contains support for the ejb,
    corba, and java stored procedures as well as the Oracle Servlet Engine (OSE)
    which provides support for the servlets 2.2 api and JSP 1.1 api.
    Note :
    EJB support in the "EJE" Version 817 has been upgraded to comply with the EJB
    1.1 api specification which includes "entity beans" support.
    What is the bottom line ??
    1) Servlets deployed to the APACHE JSERV must comply with servlet api 2.0.
    2) Servlets 2.1 or higher are only supported in EJE's OSE component found in
    the rdbms 817 or ias 9i products. Servlets api 2.0 can also run in the OSE.

    which jvm is used by jserv ?? EJE or a separate jdk ?
    The Jserv servlet engine is running in a separate jdk JVM external to the EJE jvm which is embedded within the "database" component of ias and the RDBMS.
    See the reference below for more details ...
    if jserv only support old apis, why it is in oracle's products ?
    i would assume that the oracle servlet engine was under development when ias 8i was released and became available in time for the ias 9i and rdbms 817 products.
    looking back in history leads me to believe ias 8i was a migration path to get to ias 9i or rdbms 817.
    Based upon the long history of new releases of every oracle product being upgraded with new features, it's reasonable to assume that these products will continue to evolve.
    when I deploy a jsp how to deploy in the right servlet container ("EJE") ?
    as documented in the reference below, you can deploy JSP's to either the apache jserv jvm or the EJE since the ORACLE JSP engine functionality is in both jvm's.
    there are many posts where you can see that people have deploy in jserv and they have problems because they don't use the right container (servlet 2.0 instead of
    servlet 2.2) http://technet.oracle.com:89/ubb/Forum2/HTML/006349.html
    when ias 8i came out this was clearly an issue since servlet support was at api 2.0, and the current servlet api was probably at 2.1.
    oracle clearly made every effort to get ias 9i released quickly to supply a servlet 2.1 and 2.2 capable engine to resolve this issue.
    since ias 9i and rdbms 8.1.7 are available this is no longer an issue.
    The reference below explains the architecture and understanding it would eliminate a lot of "deploy to the wrong ias 9i component" issues.
    so why jserv is bundled with oracle 8i/9ias since EJE support the right api version ?
    if in ias 9i release , oracle had removed the jserv component without any advance warning, many customers would have been very upset since oracle makes every attempt to give advance notice before removal of functionality.

  • XI interface with third party using Java API

    Hi All,
    We have the following requirement:
    XI needs to interface with an external third party system which has JAVA API capabilities and the corresponding JAR files available to us.
    I have seen a few threads where it was mentioned that we could call the Java methods directly in User Defined functions:
    Process Integration (PI) & SOA Middleware
    My question: Is this approach feasible in our scenario? Also I guess we do not need to configure any adapter for this Java Method call within the UDF.
    Your help will be greatly appreciated and rewarded.
    Regards,
    Jai.

    Thanks Stefan.
    Our requirement has slightly changed. We have installed a thirdparty application on XI Server (within our network , inside filrewall). The application with Java API Jar file. All it does is a Lookup and retruns a value.
    We are planning to import the Jar file into imported Archives and call the method within a UDF.
    Is this feasible? I am going to give it a try.
    Your expert comments are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Jai

  • How to use the Public Java API

    Is it possible to use the Public Java API to write a custom transformation in Java and use this in OWB. i.e. Say I have a Dateofbirth field in my source database and an Agegroup field in the target database, and I write a transformation in Java to take the Dateofbirth as an input parameter to the method and calculate the Agegroup e.g. 25-30, and return it from this method which then populates the Agegroup field in the target database. If so, how do I go about this?

    Martin,
    In general, yes you could... but you do not need to. You could use the UI to implement this requirement. The public Java API is there for you to manipulate metadata. How you implement your system, is independent of that.
    The way you would go about the case you just mentioned... you would write the Java code, deploy it into the database, wrap it in a PL/SQL procedure or function, and call it from OWB.
    Would this be a good idea...? I think no. Unless you have very complicated calculations that can only be performed in Java, I strongly encourage you use the PL/SQL language. Reason being: transformation will be much faster, because there is no need to translate PL/SQL into Java and back again.
    Hope this helps,
    Mark.

  • JAVA API AND ABAP API SIMPLE SCENARIO

    Hello MDM gurus
    I have never used any Java API or ABAP API to leverage and present MDM functionalities on front end systems like portal,etc...
    Could you please give me all the required to play around with JAVA api and ABAP api's.
    Points will be given to every valuable answer.
    Thanks

    Hi Nazeer,
    In order to use Portal you need Java APIs and to start with refer the MDM Java docs to get the basic idea of various classes and methods to be used in developing the simple java application and access it using portal.

  • [java api f90jdapi]How to change locationnames of attached libs in PLL's?

    I have a couple of PLL files which have some attached libraries. The problem is that the cases of the locationnames of these attached libraries are not exactly the same as the physical files: for example, the physical file 'ofgmes.pll' is attached as 'Ofgmes.pll', or 'OFGMES.PLL'. In Linux this will cause problems during compilation, because Linux is case sensitive.
    We have two solutions to change the locationnames manually:
    1. load PLL in Oracle Forms Builder, remove and reattach the attached libraries.
    2. Convert PLL to PLD, change the .attach LIBRARY property, and convert the PLD to PLL
    As you can imagine, it takes a lot of time to do this manually. So I'm looking for a solution with the java api 'f90jdapi'. I've tried to load de PLL's in a PlsqlObject object, but it's impossible to edit these objects.
    Now I'm looking for a manner to convert a PLL to PLD and vice versa. Can anyone help me with that? If there is another solution to change the locationnames of the attached libraries, please tell me :)
    Jeroen

    Hi Jeroen,
    You have two options to work around your lib's problem. Perhaps the easiest way is to set your FORMS90_PATH to include the missing library modules. This requires no coding, but I can imaging that hard-coded paths are unwanted in the future and you want to remove them (I know I would).
    The second option involves some Java coding (using JDAPI) but than the paths are removed automatically. In essense
    you have to rewrite the whole library as a pld and then parse the pld into a pll and eventually compile it into a plx.
    The code below shows this. It is extracted from a utility I use to reattach libraries to forms, menus and pl/sql-
    libraries. I tried to strip the code from details as much as I could. You can include this method into a new class or into your exsisting class.
    It does:
    1) loop over all modules loaded into the JDAPI session and check if a library module is passing.
    2) For each found library, it loops over the attached libraries and writes a line to a StringBuffer. This StringBuffer is going to be your pld.
    3) Loop over all Program Units and write the code to the StringBuffer.
    4) Construct a proper file name and save the pld module to disk.
    The save method uses a java.io.FileWriter to save the pld to disk and calls the runtime method I posted earlier to parse and compile the file.

    Harm
    * Reattach libraries to Libraries (PlsqlModules). Handling libraries is different
    * than handling forms and menus, therefore, this method does not depend on
    * the reAttach(JdapiModule, List) method.
    * Libraries are handled via a .pld script file and parsing that file to a .pll file.
    private void reAttachLibs2Libs() {
    for (JdapiIterator modules = Jdapi.getModules() ; modules.hasNext() ; ) {
    JdapiModule jmod = (JdapiModule)modules.next();
    if (jmod.getTypeId() == JdapiTypes.LIBRARY_MODULE_OTID) {
    StringBuffer pldModule = new StringBuffer(4800);
    // loop over all attached libraries and remove hard-coded paths
    for (JdapiIterator attachedLibs = ((PlsqlModule)jmod).getAttachedLibraries() ; attachedLibs.hasNext() ; ) {
    AttachedLibrary attachedLib = (AttachedLibrary)attachedLibs.next();
    String lib = attachedLib.getName();
    if (!dettachOrSwap.containsKey(lib)) {
    pldModule.append(".attach LIBRARY ").append(lib).append(" END NOCONFIRM\n");
    } // end for loop attached libraries
    // loop over all PU's and append it (unchanged) to pldModule
    for (JdapiIterator pUnits = ((PlsqlModule)jmod).getProgramUnits() ; pUnits.hasNext() ; ) {
    ProgramUnit pUnit = (ProgramUnit)pUnits.next();
    pldModule.append(pUnit.getProgramUnitText()).append("\n\n");
    // only if libraries are changed, save pld to file system, to the outdirectory
    // entered in jdapi.properties and change file extension from pll to pld.
    String fileName = jmod.getAbsolutePath().substring(
    jmod.getAbsolutePath().lastIndexOf(File.separator) +1
    , jmod.getAbsolutePath().length()-3) + "pld";
    fileName = outDir + File.separator + fileName;
    save(pldModule, fileName);
    } // end if JdapiTypes.LIBRARY_MODULE_OTID

  • Problem displaying Arabic characters in PDF using Java APIs

    We are experiencing a problem when attempting to display Arabic characters within a PDF document using the Java APIs.
    The relevant Java code is as follows:
    RTFProcessor processor = new RTFProcessor("example.rtf" );
    processor.setOutput( “example.xsl” );
    processor.setExtractXLIFF(true);
    processor.process();
    ByteArrayOutputStream dataOut = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
    DataProcessor dataProcessor = new DataProcessor();
    dataProcessor.setDataTemplate( example.xdt" );
    if( parameterValues != null && parameterValues.length > 0 )
    setReportParameters( dataProcessor, parameterValues ); // method to set any report parameters from the parameterValues list.
    dataProcessor.setConnection( jdbcConnection );
    dataProcessor.setOutput(dataOut);
    dataProcessor.processData();
    FOProcessor foProcessor = new FOProcessor();
    foProcessor.setLocale( locale );
    foProcessor.setData( new ByteArrayInputStream( dataOut.toByteArray() ) );
    foProcessor.setTemplate( “example.xsl” );
    String xliffFileNameAndPath = getXLIFFFile( “example”, locale );
    if( xliffFileNameAndPath != null )
    foProcessor.setXLIFF( xliffFileNameAndPath );
    foProcessor.setOutput( "example.pdf" );
    foProcessor.setOutputFormat(
    outputFormat == PDF_FORMAT ? FOProcessor.FORMAT_PDF : FOProcessor.FORMAT_HTML );
    foProcessor.generate();
    The method getXLIFFFile( ) gets the relevant XLIFF file for the supplied report locale (if it exists) – the three test files that we used were Italian (example_it_IT.xlf), Spanish (example_es_ES.xlf) and Arabic (example_ar_AE.xlf).
    I imported the following JAR files from the XML Publisher release (version 5.6.2) into my Java application: collections.jar, i18nAPI_v3.jar, versioninfo.jar, xdocore.jar and xmlparserv2.jar.
    The output is OK for all three translations in HTML format, using a charset of UTF-8, and for Italian and Spanish in PDF format. However, the Arabic characters display as question marks in PDF format. The same issue occurs if I stream the output as a byte array straight to the HTTP response rather than save within a file.
    Note that the same RTF, XDT and XLIFF files produce the correct output in both HTML and PDF when executed within XMLPublisher.
    Thank you

    Hi
    I had a similar issue with arabic chars. With PDF layout, chars were appearing properly when preveiwd on local m/c, but as I implement file on server, it was displayed as ?????. I had raised a TAR 5798348.993 with oracle about this and they suggested to apply patch 4028294 Oracle Sourcing J Rollup and then patch 4182914. But later my users changed requirement and i cud not apply the patch to test if it works fine.
    But here, you have suggested that installing fonts would do. Is it really that simple? If yes, dont know what is that patch for which I was told to apply.

    now i am planning to work on MDM JAVA APIs by using Webdynpro for Java as UI.
    1) can you please share the required documents on the same. how to start working on this by using MDM JAVA APIs in webdynpro for java
    2) what are the JARs files are required and how to integrate those jar files into webdynpro for java application.
    3)  is there any SDN help on MDM JAVA API with webdynpro for java? . can you please send the link on the same.
    4) can you please help by providing sample code on how to use JAVA APIs for retrieving,deleting,inserting and Updating the data in the database.
    if anybody helps on the same then it is the great help to me.
    points are always rewardable...
    Regards
    Suresh babu

    Hi Suresh,
    You can have the MDM JAVA API javadocs from the link
    http://help.sap.com/javadocs/MDM/SP06P2/index.html
    There you can see a package named com.sap.mdm.examples.The classes in it contains some examples using which you can start understanding the code.
    You need to have MDM JAR files for it. And these JAR files to be used at build time can be added to the project thru :-
    Right click on project-> properties->Java Build Path - > Add external JARs
    At run time you can add them the reference in
    Right click on project-> properties->web dynpro references->library reference.
    Thanks

  • Oracle 11g Standard Edition + Locator Java API

    We have Oracle 11g Standard which includes the Oracle Locator package, but not the Oracle Spatial.
    I would like to use the Oracle® Spatial Java API in my java code, but am unsure of the licensing implications of this.
    I require some form of java api in order to access the geomettry objects stored in the database. Oracle do not allow the download of the java files seperately. I was unable to find any reference to a 'Oracle Locator Java API'
    Could someone let me know what exists in terms of Java API's, what i am entitled to use under the current licensing rules, and where I can download the necessary source/jar files?

    Thanks for letting me know the location of the jar files, that will at least help me get things going.
    I am still concerned about licensing issues, as your reply appears to contradict itself:
    "There is no licensing issues if you just want to use Oracle Spatial Java API(sdoapi.jar) with your spatial data in the Oracle 11g Standard DB."
    and
    "You cannot use some oracle spatial features (PL/SQL packages and their java APIs) in the standard edition."
    I could use some clarification on this. I'm currently assuming that you mean I can legitimately use the spatial java API with any features I have available within the 11g Standard DB (i.e Oracle Locator subset of the Oracle Spatial package), but that I can't take that for granted, especially considering how militant Oracle are being over licensing and patents these days.

  • Image not displayed in pdf generated using Java API for Forms service

    Hi,
    I am creating a pdf document using Java API for Forms Service.
    I am able to generate the pdf but the images are not visible in the generated pdf.
    The image relative path is coming in the xml as defined below. The images are stored dynamically in the Livecycle repository each time a request is fired with unique name before the xml is generated.
    <imageURI xfa:contentType="image/png" href="../Images/logo.png"></imageURI>
    Not sure if I need to specify specify specific URI values that are required to render a form with image.
    The same thing is working when I generate pdf document using Java API for Output Service.
    As, I need to generate interactive form, I have to use Forms service to generate pdfs.
    Any help will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Below is the code snippet:

                URLSpec uriValues = new URLSpec();
                                  // Template location contains the whole rpository path for the form
                uriValues.setContentRootURI(templateLocation);

                pdfFormRenderSpec.setAcrobatVersion(com.adobe.livecycle.formsservice.client.AcrobatVersio n.Acrobat_8);
                                  //Invoke the renderPDFForm method and write the
                //results to a client web browser
                String tempTemplateName =templateName;
                FormsResult formOut = formsClient.renderPDFForm(tempTemplateName,
                                              inXMDataTransformed,pdfFormRenderSpec,uriValues,null);
                //Create a Document object that stores form data
                Document outputDocument = formOut.getOutputContent();
                InputStream inputStream = outputDocument.getInputStream();
