Archive does not compress

I am having problems with the Archive command. Every time I archive a folder, it creates a .zip folder, however when I Get Info on the .zip folder, it is the same size as the original. I seem to be unable to reduce file sizes so that I can email larger files. Any info or assistance would be great!

What sort of files are in the folder? If they are compressed formats, such as MP3, MPEG, JPEG, etc. they cannot be compressed much further.

  • Bug: Auto-archive does not work in Outlook 2010

The Auto-Archive feature does not seem to work. In my case, I'm creating a mail folder in my inbox and setting the auto archival to "2 weeks, then delete". I run Auto Archival manually. It seems to progress without any error, but I know better.
It should take the process more than a few minutes to process the mail I have stored up for almost a year. No error and my mail has been untouched.
I noticed this thread in the Outlook 2010 beta forums
I'm having the same issue. I'd like this bug fixed if possible? I keep archival folders to manage my mail.

    Hi Canovac,
Auto Archive works as expected in my environment.   I noticed you said that you created a new mail folder in your inbox.  Did you just create the folder and move the mail to that folder?  Auto archive looks at modified date and if you
move the mail to that folder that changed the modified date so the mail will not archive.
To determine the modified date, do the following:
While on the folder in question:
Click View > View Settings > Columns
In the Select available columns from dropdown choose
All Mail Fields locate Modifed in the Available colums: and click
    Add
If the mail has not been modified within the last two week span, please test the following for me.
Start Outlook with the /safe switch and then run Auto-Archive.
Does auto-archive work when starting with the /safe switch?

  • When iMovie '11 renders SD for iPad the quality goes way down. Is there a way to do this that does not compress as much?

It appears that DV/DVCAM SD files are about 300 MB per minute. When iMovie '11 compresses a rendered movie for iPad the size is less than 30 MB per minute. It greys out the otherwise available HD options in favor of "large", but this level of compression seems to really decrease the quality, creating unacceptable levels of quantization error noise and color banding. Is there a way to render a finished edited movie created in iMovie '11 or iMovie 5 that will not do this? I could compress in HandBrake but there is apparently no way to send the editing metadata to it from iMovie. Any suggestions?

I can't answer your first question.
The default location for the imovie Theater.theater  package is in your user / Movies folder.

  • XI Archiving does not delete anything

    Hi all
I have set up Archiving/Delete in my XI.
I have from sxmb_adm Scheduled the Delete Job SAP_BC_XMB_DELETE_<client> and  SAP_BC_XMB_HIST_DELETE_<client>
and set up the appropriate parameters.
These Jobs run every night and they report that messages have been deleted
In the processing stats from sxmb_moni it reports 1000s of Deleted XML Messages
BUT - No messages are deleted.  I can still see them in sxmb_moni.
    Why ??

    Hi Jonny,
In addition to what Harald has said and your Table Switch is not enabled:
    1) If these messages are IDOC messages then try scheduling the job SXMS_REFRESH_ADAPTER_STATUS well before the Delete Job runs and ensure it finishes before your delete job runs.
    2) The messages you see may be marked for archiving. This is just my guess but you can find out using this procedure:
2.1) take the message id of the message and also the pipeline id. Pipeline Id can be found in the SOAP Header -> RunTime. Search with this string "SAP:PipelineIdExternal"
    2.2) run the report RSXMB_CHECK_MESSAGES_STATE.
2.3) put in the msg id and the pipeline id and Exceute
2.4) This will tell you the exact status of the message.
2.5) if this displays - Next step: Flag for archiving, i believe you have to run the archiving job atleast once to get rid of these message
2.6) If the report says, the message is in State 29, then run the report RSWF_XI_UNUSED_MSGS which will mark the messages to State 3, so that they can be deleted the next time the deletion job runs. Remember that the End date of these messages will be marked as the day you run this report. So whenever the deletion job is allowed to delete messages for the above end date, they will be deleted.

  • Catalog backup not compressed with Lightroom 6

Lightroom 6 is said to compress the catalog backup into a zip file.
When I try this with a small test catalog it works fine.
However when I backup my real catalog (75 000 photos, 7.5 GB) the file is not compressed. LR6 behaves exactly as LR5.
I tried several times but it is always the same.
Did someone meet the same problem ?
    Any advice ?
    Thanks.
    Michel (Paris)

Thank you Ian for your answer.
However I don't think I misunderstood how Lightroom backup works. Maybe I was not very clear in my explanation (English is not my mother tongue !).
I run a test with a small catalog (test_backup.lrcat), which I created just for this purpose. In this case the catalog backup is compressed in a zip archive
However, when I open Lightroom with my actual catalog (lightroom-6.lrcat), then the catalog backup is not compressed (it's just a copy of the catalog).
I don't understand why LR6 does not compress the catalog backup in the last case.

  • Idvd does not sync when burning to dvd

I am using a MacBook Pro with OSX, FCP 7 and iDVD 7 or 8 (it's burning now, so can't confirm).  I have a 64 minute video (that includes motions, etc in iDVD.  I exported the FCP to QT movie using the default settings.  Everything remains in sync in FCP and iDVD.  When I burn to a disc, it goes out of sync about half way through the movie.  I have searched for solutions in the support community but things I have tried do not work.
I have one more question, but I may have to go to FCP community.  I export to QT with default settings.  Is there another way to export that does not compress so much?
    Thank you for your help.

I did notice the "sequence" indicated 32 bit and all the clips, wav music, etc. are 16 bit.  Is that normal?
    May be but I would.
    • Convert all material to formats that FinalCut has easy to use and that match the Final product (Movie)
    • especially the Audio file .wma, wav etc and 32-bit - is no good start
    - convert them to .aiff 16-bit 44.1kHz or 48kHz
    • Set up a NEW Project - BUT FIRST select - right kind of project depending on material - AND FINAL MOVIE PROPERTIES.
THEN FIRST - Start a NEW PROJECT - Else it will not work.

  • Compression does not save space

    Hello All,
    OS: AIX 5.2.
We are creating seven backup files every day.
We transfer files to our backup server via ftp.
No we have request to compress files.
So I create a backup folder and put all seven files into one pax folder as below:
    pax -wvf backup.pax file1 file2 file3 file4 file5 file6 file7
    ls
backup.pax Now I am trying to compress file as below but getting error:
    oracle:>compress backup.pax
This file is not changed; compression does not save space.
    DN

it's pretty universally accepted. The keyword is "universally". Bzip2 has better compression but it's very slow. This is the reason why bzip2 can't be universally accepted (I mean online content compression via HTTP etc. etc.).
But it's accepted by most of *nix clones. And if I need really save ma space then I use bzip2 rather than gzip.
    Just little proof:
standard_bz2.log and standard_gz.log files are the same.
    du -sh *
    1.1G    standard_bz2.log
    1.1G    standard_gz.lognow I'll execute following commands:
echo "GZIP"; date; gzip standard_gz.log; date
echo "BZIP2"; date; bzip2 standard_bz2.log dateand here is output:
    GZIP
    Mon Jun 12 12:26:38 CEST 2006
    Mon Jun 12 12:27:38 CEST 2006
    BZIP2
    Mon Jun 12 12:27:45 CEST 2006
    Mon Jun 12 13:12:29 CEST 2006
    du -sh *
    54M     standard_bz2.log.bz2
108M    standard_gz.log.gzGzip's compresion was fast (took just 60 seconds) and produced archive has 108M Size.
Bzip2's compression was much better and produced size of archive was just 54M but it took much time for compression.
So if you need quick compression and less of saved capacity then gzip is the right option.
If you need save space or you need better compression then bzip2 is the right option.

Some listserves have lots of people giving their number. I find it odd that people would, but not astonishing for someone to ask. Outside the norm here, but how would someone know ahead of time? It's a bravely connected new world.

Imovie is limited to its import formats and does not allow for storing video in any rawformat.  Which means all videos will contain lossy compression applied to the video….with no way to edit full format video.  Is this statement true? Does iMovie support HD 1080p @ 60 fps?

    Iggy826 wrote:
    …   Is this statement true?
    yes and no!
using the intended Import from Camera routines, iM converts automatically in its very own AppleIntermediateCodec. so, answer is yes.
    but …
    a) Apple claims , aic is non-lossy intermediate codec. working with proRes in FCPX taught me, there are even less non-lossy-ness codecs
    b) iM offers an Archive feature, which is basically a simple Finder/copy operation which 'clones' your SDcards content into some folder on your harddrive; e.g. you can later use these untouched  'raws' in another editor such as FCPX. so, answer is no.
    c) when you 'override' the import routines by manually re-wrapping mts into a mov container, iM handles the 'native' h264s ... so, answer is no.
    d) adding any effect, transition etc. reduces any interlaced source to 540p. (if you're working with 720p source, res is kept) … so, answer is yes. or, in 720p case, no.
    < Johnny Depp's voice >… savvy?
Does iMovie support HD 1080p @ 60 fps?
    via Import from Camera? No.
via re-wrapped mts>>mov? I was told yes, some say no.
one thing to be kept in mind when talking about these 'issues':
iM, this 12€, is meant as a CONSUMER toy tool.
    it supports AVCHD vers1 (=no 1080/60p, no >24Mbps, no 3D).
fingers crossed, we'll see soon some iM/QT/FCPX update for support of AVCHD v2 ........
the main consumer devices are within the specs, iM supports.
using professional equipments makes usage of professional software (FCPX, AP) optional.
    sorry for lengthy answer.

    Hi,

    backup as compressed backupset format 's:\rman\incr/al_%d_%T_%s_%p' archivelog all delete input;

    Thank you.

    Hello;
The archive logs deleted as and when they're backed up ( archivelog all delete input )
So if you then try to list them they are gone. Nothing to list, at least until the next log switch.
Maybe keep a few days around

  • Any best practise to archive PO's which does not have corresponding invoice

    Hello,
As part of initial implementation and conversion, We have a lot of PO's / LTA created but their corresponding invoices were never converted into SAP from legacy system.  SAP archiving program tags those as not business complete as the invoice qty does not match with po qty (there are no invoices to start with).  Just flagging 'delivery complete and final confirmation' of PO does not help.  Anybody ran into similar situation and how did they resolve it?  I am reluctant to enhance standard SAP archiving program to bypass those checks and that is my only last option. Any SAP recommended Note / best practise etc would help.
    Satyajit Deb

    Where is the invoice posted?
was the invoice posted in the legacy system?
Clearance of GR/IR account with MR11 will usually close such POs.

  • Outlook 2013 (included with Home and Business 2013) does not archive everything

We are running on Exchange 2010 SP3. We have about 5 PCs with Office Home and Business 2013 (click-to-run version). We set up auto-archiving on all machines and set the options to apply on all folders. It's supposed to back up everything 24 months prior.
It does not back up everything. For example, on my machine which is Windows 8.1 (the others are windows 7 pro), it only backed up emails from March of 2013. We have already applied the registry fix where we do the following:
registry key (dword) ArchiveIgnoreLastModifiedTime = 1
    Outlook 2013 in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Preferences
That didn't help at all. The machines with Office Home and Business 2010 work fine.
    Anyone else having this issue?
    Thanks in advance,

Seems this is a single problem and we may focus on the problemic machine setting or data file itself.
