Archive&Install Help re: microsoft word

I am getting an error message whenever I try to open any Microsoft application that says something about "shared library error + carbonlib". Has anyone ever had experience with this? Also, online on the microsoft website, they say the way to deal with this is with and Archive and Install. I have never done this before. Will this for sure get my Microsoft to work again? Will I have to re-install microsoft? Also, is it 100% full proof that I wont lose any documents/files/photos/music when doing an A&I? what else is involved with it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This error has been reported at various times. Unfortunately, few people post back to say if or how they fixed it.

I don't think we can be 100% certain but if you re-install the operating system and re-install Microsoft, I think you will very likely get a normal Microsoft. If it were me, I would first try re-installing Microsoft to see if that fixed the problem. If not, I would consider the Archive and Install.

Probably yes. As far as I know, the Archive and Install does not save 3rd party applications.

Nothing is 100% fool proof in this business. If you have the option to back your home folder up to another disk or some other medium, that would be highly advisable. Every once in a while, something goes wrong with a re-install and people end up losing things. Just read the forums for a while and you will see. The probability is that everything will go fine, but it is not a 100% probability. As I recall (I have not done this for a while), as you set up the Archive and Install, you will have the option to save your home folder and settings. You definitely want to do this. The A&I will put a Previous System folder onto your desktop and you can drag your personal files out of that.

I would recommend that you do a little more reading to make sure you know how the Archive and Install will work. Apple has a good kb article here: Mac OS X: About the Archive and Install feature. Note that that article talks about using Disk Utility to verify your disk (repair your disk). That would be a very good thing to do before the Archive and Install.

Hi,
Do you mean the Calendar template in Word when you click File > New? If so, I'm afraid there is no build-in template which meets the request in Microsoft Word. I've found a template for Excel, but nothing for Word.

You may need to find some third-party templates to achieve the goal.

After installing 10.4 Microsoft word says my fonts are corrupt

I have installed 10.4 from the disk. Now microsoft word starts up but brings up a message that " font name is corrupt and I shouls remove it" It has listed (one at a time) hundreds of my fonts.
I do not get this message when I open Adobe products so are the fonts corrupt or not?
If I need to "remove" my fonts - can anyone tell me where they all are and whether I will have problems in other applications such as the Adobe products.
Is there any known fix for this or just getting rid of fonts?

what u can do is try creating a new user .
u need to goto sytem pref>accounts and create a new account .
check the article in the link

then u need to login that other account and check if the issue persits in that other account .
if the issue doenst happen in the other account , then we need to troubleshoot the main account .
the fonts that u install in a user is located in
HDD/users/user name/library/fonts .
u can put put this folder on ur desktop restart and check if MS word gives u the same error message .

What version of Microsoft Word is it? If it's 2004, you're SOL. If it's a newer version, you may need to re-install it. I'd say you'd have the best luck with Word 2011.

Help: analyze microsoft word docs

I'm trying to write a program to run linguistic analysis on Microsoft Word documents. I understand how to do i/o with plain text files. But for a Word document, how do I deal with those extra formatting? Can any of you Java gurus out there give me some ideas? Thanks in advance!

HELP w/ Microsoft Word

Ok, so i bought Microsoft Word for the Mac on black friday, and it said that I would get a 100 dollar rebate on the website, along with a 6 dollar upgrade to Office 2008, but I dont find any forms for the rebate in the box or packaging. Any ideas on how to get the rebate and obtain the 6 dollar upgrade to 08? Thanks in advanced.

HT2506 how do I make preview the default reader when I open a file? I just installed Icloud and Microsoft word and excel are still the default.

I just installed icloud. Afterwards I am having trouble opening files becasue Microsoft excel and word aren't working now. How do I change the default to preview to open files?

Do I have to do this for each file?
When someone sends me a file created in Excel, can my computer default to opening it wit Numbers?

Boot Problem - Archive Install Help

Tonight my laptop froze, I had to do a force restart. Unfortunately it would not start, the Apple logo and the spinning bars went on endlessly. I proceeded to use the installation cd to do a disk repair, however that fails. The details read, "This Disc cannot be repaired". As a result, I proceeded to try DiskWarrior and Techtool Pro but neither of those seem to be working with 10.6.6.
I have a timemachine backup but it's a few days old and I would like to avoid losing my data. If I use the installation cd to do a fresh install of the OS, is there a way to do so without losing my data? If so can someone please walk me through the process? This happened awhile back and I thought I was doing it correctly but when it was done all my data was gone. I'd like to avoid that from occurring yet again.

It sounds like your disk has died.
I suggest running AHT. If AHT reports hardware errors, it might be time to take it to Apple for repair.

Help with Microsoft Word crashing on my Macbook.

I have a blackbook with 1gb ram. 2ghz core duo.
I have never really had any problems with this macbook, other than some sleep issues.
I was working on a paper for school, and once I got beyond about 15 pages in Word, it started to respond slower than usual. After I got to about 45 pages, it got even slower.
I am using about 20 different charts and graphs, and the total file size is 5.8mb. By slow, I mean it just takes a while for pictures to load, and if I change the formatting on a certain page, I get the spinning umbrella very often.
Also, it crashed about 3 times in an 8 hour period. I had nothing else running except for Firefox.
I have an Intel Core 2 Duo iMac with 2GB ram, and I run ichat, itunes, Word, FIrefox, and Shakespeer all at the same time, and it has never crashed.
My question is, is this normal for it to act like this? Will upgrading it to 2GB help? Is it the fault of the internal video card, and would the Pro take care of the problem?
Macbook is upgraded to 10.4.8 and has all updates avaliable. There is over 40gb of space left.

I've edited much larger files than this on the MacBook with no problems.
The only time I have had problems is when the file has been back and fore in different Windows Word versions (two types) and then back to Mac. It then crashed the Windows version too.
It may be a corrupt font.
Try repairing permissions and checking your fonts are OK too.

Need help with Microsoft Word 2008 for Mac

When I paste a picture in a word document and save it, it seems to show up without a problem. But when I go back in to edit or print the document, the picture is no longer there, only a box with a big red X in it (I've inserted a sample of what shows up). Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestions, AussieDJ, but unfortunately I don't have a clue under what format to save a document other than as a word document. If anyone out there has encountered this problem with Word 08 and has some suggestions to resolve the issue, I'd sure appreciate hearing from you! Thanks!

Need help reactivating Microsoft Word

I have the code, but it's not compatible with account. I have paid for it, but it won't link up to my account.

Its actually pretty easy to understand why anyone might post multiple threads on occasion at present ,Templeton, while the software changeover for the discussions is still having teething problems . I did the same myself yesterday when the servers were refusing to acknowldge receipt of anything new that was sent their way.
The same problems can also make spelling hard to correct. If the server doesn't even show your post for a couple of hours you will inevitably miss the chance of editing.
Much better to focus on the real question facing the poster, rather than trivial issues, don't you think, especially while the changeover is still really under way?

Hello Craig,
I have attached an example that will demonstrate this for you. You may need to change the Word Server to match the version of Word that you have installed. This can be done by right clicking on each ActiveX step and select Specify Module. Under Automation Server, scroll down the list to Microsoft Word... and select it.
This is primarily an example to demostrate calling Microsoft Word from TestStand. If you require additional functionality from the Microsoft Word ActiveX server then you should refer to the API reference help for Microsoft Word.

My fonts that are installed in Font Book are not showing up in Microsoft Word. Can someone help me fix this problem?

I am needing some help. I own a Mac Book Air with OS X 10.7.5. This computer belongs to the school district I teach for, so I do not have permission to do a huge wipe that would uninstall programs such as Word. When I first got my computer, I added all my fonts. I did this by putting them into a fonts folder. The fonts were not all showing up in Microsoft Word, so I was told to use Font Book. All of my fonts show up and are installed in Font Book; however, they do not show up in Word. I have restarted my computer. All the fonts are validated. I have tried almost everything I could think of after researching answers online. Another problem--my bullet points are messed up. When I click the bullet button, instead of an open circle it's an open rectangle. This doesn't concern me as much, but I thought it might help as a clue as to what is wrong. The fonts also do not show up in the Format > Font box.
Also, I want to point out that my colleagues, using the exact same computer, network, etc, are able to download and use all the fonts. They have tried to fix mine, also.
Any help is much appreciated! Maybe there is some way to wipe out my fonts and start clean?

I suggest you do one of two things:
1. Upgrade to Office 2011 for OS X.
2. Try the freeware, Libre Office.

Need help: Cannot find Microsoft Word installed on your system.

I am having issues trying to generate a pdf from a robohelp 7 html project. Whenever I try to generate a pdf I get the error "Cannot find Microsoft Word installed on your system."
I have tried to uninstall both Office (2003) and robohelp, re-installing office first and then robohelp, but it doesn't help. Can anyone shed some light on this issue?

Thanks for the reply, but it's Microsoft Office, not Open Office.
I have read many threads here and tried most of the suggestions, up to and including:
Uninstall/Reinstall of Office and RH 7
Adjusting Macro security
comparing registry entries
There are others but I can't think of them all right now. Point being, nothing has worked thus far. I must admit this is fairly frustrating but I haven't given up yet. Any more suggestions are welcome, and I will review the link you gave me just to make sure I cover all my bases.
