Archived Project no longer loads in iDVD

I have an iDVD project which I created on another machine. I saved it as an archive on an external hard drive, copied it to my B&W, opened it in iDVD and burned several copies. Now I want to make more copies but iDVD 5.01 claims that it can't find certain files (m4a and mov) so the project will not open.
What good is an archive that is missing files?
Any idea on where these files may have gone? or do I have to start from scratch?
Thanks in advance!

The next time you want to create an iDVD archive, read http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=164936 'Backing up or transferring your iDVD project to another computer' first.

  • Project No Longer Loads

I have been working on a project for several weeks. Two days ago I tried to load it to work on it but after the progress bar reaches 100%, it just sits there.
I tried starting another project and importing some video and it appears to work. The lost project represents weeks of work and I can't afford to spend that much time recreating it. I am using PrE 8 with an Intel 9650 Quad core, 8GB of ram. I have tried reinstalling PrE8, updating my video card driver, and looking for a similar problem in this Forum. I also tried loading all the backup project files, with the same results. I suspect there might be a problem with the project preferences file also, but I'm new to Windows 7 and I can't locate the prefs file equivalent. I let the program run trying to open the project for 24 hours but it just sits there. Anyone have a similar problem?

    Welcome to the forum.
    First, a couple of questions:
1.) Have you updated PrE 8 to 8.0.1?
2.) Do you have the latest Apple QT Player upgrade?
3.) Have you also upgraded your audio driver, along with the video driver that you mention? Did you upgrade the video driver from the vid-card mfgr's. site?
4.) Have any of the Assets been Moved, or Renamed, since you last had the Project Open? Normally, this will result in a "Where is file XXXX?" dialog screen, but I have read of hangs on this step.
5.) Can you list the file types for the Assets in that Project?
This PrPro-Wiki FAQ Entry will list some steps for PrPro, one of which, Import Project, does not exist in PrE, but does mention using XML Wrench to check the XML integrity of the PREL file. I'd definitely try that.
    Good luck,

  • Premiere CC Project no longer loading

Im running media off two external hard drives.
This morning I forgot to turn one of the drives on before I opened my Premiere project.
When the missing media alert showed up, I canceled and quit. Then turned on my missing drive.
Now when the project opens it freezes and says 887 files to load at the bottom. but nothing happens.
    Other Projects open correctly.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated,
    Kyle

    hi kylecam,
please check if you are able to import your old project in a new one. Also check if after effects can open the project. Please go to preferences & uncheck the option for writing xmps.
try the steps & see if that helps.

  • IDVD 6 archived project won't open

I've created and burnt an iDVD6 project to DVD. I then archived (File>Archive project) the project (8.49GB) but afterwards it won't open (either by double-clicking or from iDVD>File>Open or from the splash window "Open an Existing Project") in iDVD6. I've done checked/repaired permissions but no good. I tried opening it in iDVD 5 but won't open either.
    any ideas appreciated

I've created a new iDVD6 project from scratch PAL wide screen to standard DVD5 size, saved the project file and saved the project as an archive (21GB). I've got two movies (one is around 59' and the other is an iPhoto slideshow exported as a QT movie of about 10'. All up the image comes in at 4.1GB after compression.
    Here's a few scenerious I've tried:
    (1) When I double-click in the Finder either the project or the archive files I simply get the iDVD6 'splash screen' menu becomes foremost/active but the file doesn't open. Sometimes I get two splash screen menus one overlaid directly on top of the other, but is modal and I get a system beep if I try to access the lower one. Doesn't happen every time but fairly often. Don't know what invokes it.
    (2) If I open iDVD6 and at the splash screen: I choose Open an Existing Project and select the project file. The file opens and then the splash screen comes foremost with the proj file behind but I can't select it and get the system beep if I try.
    (3) In iDVD6 I can open the project file normally from File>Open but the archive won't open from File>Open. Sometimes I get a "loading themes" progress bar and that's it.
I've checked ownership privs/perms and applied Other rwx to all just in case. Still no good
I'm going to try taking the archive across to my PBG4 1.67GHz laptop to see what happens there

  • IMovies won't load into iDVD

I'm running iDVD 6.0.3 on OS 10.4.9. On the right of my iDVD screen, it says Audio, Photo, Movies, and below this is a window with a folder that says Movies. This folder has a sub-folder named DivX Movies.
So my first question is, how do I get my projects that I created with iMovie HD (also 6.0.3) into that Movies folder?
Second, is it possible to combine two separate movies in iMovie HD and import the whole thing to an iDVD project? I opened one movie and tried to import a second, but got an error message that Quicktime couldn't parse it: -43.
My third question is more complicated. I have a series of movies in various folders on an external firewire drive. Each folder contains 2-3 movies that I want to burn on a single disc, with menus. Last night I dragged one of these folders into the top window on iDVD that I mentioned above, and the thumbnails of those (two) movies appeared in the bottom window. I dragged them onto the Fish theme screen, and the first title appeared at the top in large letters. Below that, it said Play Movie and Scene Selection in smaller text, and below these the second movie title appeared, in the same smaller font size.
Then, when I tried to rename the bottom title, everything disappeared. The top title reverted to the default "Fish" title and jumped to the right, and the second movie vanished. I quit the project and started over, dragged my folder with the two movies into the window again, and now I find that the thumbnails are no longer loading.
I tried one of the other folders which contained three movies, but only one of them appeared. It also doesn't load as a picture, but as a Quicktime icon with the large Q in the center and a small iDVD logo on the bottom left.
Hopefully someone with more experience can offer advice.

Do all of your movies have chapters?
When you drag the first movie (let's call it Movie A) onto iDVD, you will get the 'Play Movie' and 'Scene Selection' options (if you have chapters) on the main menu. Selecting the 'Scene Selection' will take you to a submenu with the chapters(scenes) that you created in Movie A.
When you drag the second movie (call it Movie B), you will get a text button with the Movie B's name, that when selected, will take you to a submenu for Movie B that has the 'Play Movie' and 'Scene Selection' options for Movie B.
Same thing for subsequent movies (Movie C, etc).
    It sounds as if you wish to have all the movie choices on the main menu like this;
    Movie A Movie B Movie C
Play MovieA Play MovieB Play MovieC
Scene SelectA Scene SelectB Scene SelectC
To do this, go ahead and drop in Movie A. Use the ''free position" option for the buttons so that you can place the 'play movie' and 'scene selection' for Movie A under its title.
Then, drop in Movie B. Click on its name to go to its submenu. From that submenu, select the 'Play Movie' text, and COPY. Go back to the main menu and PASTE under MovieB's title. Navigate back to the submenu by clicking on Movie B's title again, and DELETE 'Play Movie' from the submenu. Now do the same COPY/PASTE with 'Scene Selection' and return back to the submenu to DELETE it. Now the submenu has been entirely deleted, and the two movie options on are the main iDVD menu.
    Repeat with MovieC, etc.
Post back if this is not what you are wanting to do.

  • No sound from archived project

I pulled up an archived project from my external hard drive. Had burned multiple copies of it before but now want to try it out with my new La Cie burner.... when project loads in iDVD, NO SOUND. No music, no talk...just silence. Checked connections: ok. Played iTunes: ok. Just iDVD with archived project. What gives and how do I fix? iMac computer; 10.4.8 OS. iDVD 6. Intel Core Duo with 2GHZ memory.

    pmiller,
The term 'archived' means different things to people.
When you said "I pulled up an archived project from my external hard drive" - do you mean you actually used iDVD 6's File>Archive Project command or do you mean you simply saved the iDVD project (file will have a file extension of .dvdproj).
If you used iDVD 6's File>Archive Project command, ALL the elements that were used to create that DVD are bundled in the archive file - this file will be LARGE.
If you simply saved the iDVD project you haven't really archived it. If you move or delete any of the components from the place they originally were when you created the project, you will probably have problems.

  • Poor performance with Archived projects on Time Capsule

I work in an educational environment where multiple students share four iMacs (all 2008 models or newer, with 2 or 4 GB of RAM on each machine). When a student is done working on a project for the day they save it as an Archive to a Time Capsule, which is shared by every computer on the network, so that they can access it on any of the computers in the building The problem is that often times, even on projects with only 4 or 6 tracks, the load time is extremely slow from the Time Capsule (10 or more minutes for a 11 MB project yesterday) and once loaded the same projects frequently give the "too many tracks" error and will not play and are thus useless. I tried temporarily moving the project to the HD of the computer in use, but this also took a long time and didn't really solve the problem.
Is it possible we're having bandwidth issues? I could see how this would slow the load time, but not playback once loaded. Our ISP plan is rather slow... probably no more than 5 Mbps and it's shared between 6 or 7 computers at a time.
Any other thoughts or solutions? It's slowed some of our students progress to a halt.

1 megabyte per minute is extremely slow in terms of transferring or opening a file.
it is, but assuming you have more than one machine connected to it, the bandwidth is being split between every machine that's accessing it. as well, it's not designed for what you seem to have purposed it... it's a backup drive, not a working drive (which would also mean you have no backups)
once the Archived project is loaded, shouldn't it no longer be referring wirelessly back to the TC
i've never studied how much disk access GB utilizes, but OS X in general does a lot. the latency alone across that network would have to be huge, and to add to the problem, i doubt there's a 7200RPM drive in the TC.
looking at it anotehr way, we always recommend firewire drives due to the bandwidth problems associated with the file sizes of audio or video data (even USB 2.0 does not have the sustained throughput that FW does). as a quick off-the-top-of-my-head calculation, firewire 400 offers around 50MB/s throughput. 802.11n, the fastest of the current wireless specs, offers around 6.75MB/s (theoretically up to around 15MB/s, but i think that requires multi-channel usage). that's a HUGE difference, and when you're moving lots of data, it's very relevant.

  • Project Will Not Load. Recovery Possible?

    Hi,
4.1. I had a backup power supply failure and a project was open. I re-started the computer and the project loaded, but as a 'Copy Of My Project' with a disclaimer. Still, it looked fine, rendered fine, and saved fine.
However, when I closed Premiere and then re-loaded the project later, it will not load. The project gets to 100% and then just sits there forever.
Any ideas on how/if the the thing can be recovered properly?
    Thanks,
    ---JC

Try creating a new project and importing the busted project into it. Using your preferred import method, just navigate to the .prproj file and select it for import. If all goes well, the sequences and all relevant media will come into the new project and be stored in a bin with the same name as the project. Open it up and find your sequences there.
Alternatively, check out the Auto-Save folder in the root of your project folder. As long as you have Auto-save enabled, you should find a series of backup/archive projects in it. While you may lose a bit of work depending on the time of the last save, you should at least be able to salvage the project. Just check the Date Modified column for the last auto-saved file.

  • Importing archived project from DVD

I used burn disk to arcive a project to a DVD. That seemed to work fine.
I then started a new project and tried to import the "archived project from the DVD and I keep getting this error:
The file could not be imported: The file “Macintosh Hard Disk/Volumes/Media Drive/Home movies/Billie Jo awards” can’t be imported; QuickTime couldn’t parse it: -43
So far I am unable to import this DVD or anything else into iMovie
    Any Ideas?
    David

Your Archived DVD Project will only open in iDVD.
To access the video you will need the burned copy of the DVD
To import your DVD you will need a DVD ripper. I use Mac the ripper http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/22715.
If you want to only import the video (to edit or watch on your computer) chose in mode chapter extraction and select the ones you want (yes you can select them all). Then you will need to condvert the .VOB file (found in the video_TS file) to a .MOV or H264 using FFMpegX http://ffmpegx.com/download.html. If the binaries dont work just press cancel (you dont need them for this conversion). Then import your .MOV or .MP4 file into iMovie.
    That should do it

  • How do I get my pictures from archived project back into iphoto?

I trashed a few events from my current iphoto library to create some hard drive disk space.  I thought they were backed up on another drive (that is all except one event with pics and movies in it).  I have an archived dvd project with the pictures in it.  How can I get the pics and movies from the archived project in iDVD into the current library of iPhoto?

Control-click on the iDVD archived project package and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu.  Then go to the Contents/Resources/stills folder.  See if your photo files are in there. Any movies or music files should be in the Contents/Resources/av folder.

  • Archived project missing menu

I archived an idvd project w both menu and assets included, or whatever the 2 boxes are - i cannot remember.
I transferred the file to another machine (both intel - same os, versions, ect) but when i open the archived project, the video plays if i 'press play' but the menu never appears.
I should have saved as an ISO, as all I needed to do was burn multiple copies away from my main machine, but hindsight is 20/20.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Jarrod
PS - I tried to switch themes and still was black, so maybe it's an idvd issue and not my archive?

    BCE,
The Archive saves all the Project assets and structure info, but if you used a theme not on the second machine (of the themes are in another directory path) I would expect problems.

  • Iphoto does not load into iDVD- too many photos?

Recently upgraded to Leopard 10.5.6 and iLife '09. Ever since, iPhoto will not load into iDVD (iphoto 8.0 and iDVD 7.0.3). When trying to open current and new projects in iDVD, the project opens, and plays, but the photos from iPhoto never load, the loading icon just spins on and on. When I open a new document, the same thing happens. Tried trashing preferences in both programs, reinstalling iLife, and reparing permissions. All software updates are current. Still won't work.
I am starting to wonder if it has to do with the number of photos I have in iPhoto, which is about 4000. The photos loaded with no problem until I upgraded. Could it be that the upgrades in iPhoto just make the files too large, and it's too much to expect that many photos to load? Does anyone know how many photos is too many,— or can you suggest anything I have not tired that might work?

This is from Mac Help. It is a good idea to create another account to use in troubleshooting situations such as this. After you create the new account, open iDVD from that account. Try creating a small project to see if you are having the same problems. Post back with your results.
_Adding a new user account to your computer_
You can create individual user accounts for each person who uses your computer. Each new user has a separate home folder and can adjust his or her own preferences without affecting other users.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Accounts.
If some settings are dimmed, click the lock icon and type an administrator name and password.
Click Add and type the user's name.
If you don't want to use the short name generated automatically, type a new short name. (Once the account is created, you won't be able to change the short name.)
Type the user's password in the Password and Verify boxes.
Type a hint to help the user remember the password if they have trouble remembering it at login.
Click Parental Controls and select options to determine what the user can do with the computer.
If you change your mind while you're creating a new user account, click Delete to cancel.

  • Long loading times and jerky playback

    Hello,
I work often with Adobe Premiere CS6 but got an annoying problem.
When I have a project with many clips in the sequence, than I got really long loading times and often the playback is jerky
Is there a function, which reduces the loading times and/or the jerky playback?
I already used "Remove Unused" and "Delete Render Files".
Is it helpful to split the clips to serveral sequences and put all clips together at the end?

  • Long load times and poor application performance

We have packaged and deployed Adobe CC using SCCM within my school division. It pushed out fine, but now when we attempt to open Photoshop (or any other CC app) it has unusually long load times. 2-4 minutes. It seems to be hanging at the "Reading preferences" stage. After the application appears to have started, it takes an unusually long time to actually start working in the application (it appears to just hang).

    Hello There,
EXE's always bundle additional files because it is a stand-alone entity. And, if the size 9GB then it will surely take time to load all the files. I'll check with the team again on how we can optimize it. BTW, are the videos inserted as slide video or Event video?
