Archived redolog not applied in real-time : IN-MEMORY
I created a DataGuard configuratiion in Oracle 11g so that the archived redolog are applied in real-time using the log writer.
It seems to me that the last one is not applied : when consulting the v$archived_log table the last entry have the colunm applied to "IN-MEMORY" :
select THREAD#, SEQUENCE#,APPLIED, deleted from v$archived_log;
THREAD# SEQUENCE# APPLIED DEL
1 1935 YES NO
1 1936 IN-MEMORY NO
The Oracle 11g documentation say that if "IN-MEMORY" that mean not applied in the datafile.
Could someone help me to fix it ?
Why the last archived redolog is always "IN-MEMORY" ? Is there a way to change it ?
Please check the value of the column REGISTRAR and APPLIED for the logs in the standby database.
standby database:
select sequence#,registrar,applied from v$archived_log;
If REGISTRAR = RFS and APPLIED = NO, then the log file has been received but has not yet been applied.
If REGISTRAR = RFS and APPLIED = IN-MEMORY, then the log file has been applied in memory, but the datafiles have not yet been updated.
If REGISTRAR = RFS and APPLIED = YES, then the log file has been applied and the datafiles have been updated.
Try Cancelling the Managed Recovery Process and bounce the standby database

Hi all ;
I have some confusion regarding redo apply Vs real time apply.
When applying redo data in standby site , how do we find whether it was done by redo apply or real time apply ?
Please discuss in detail. I need some clarification about this.
Thanks in advance ..Hi baris ,
Thanks .. again little confusion. NO documents to find answer.
If a logical corruption occurs on your primary by a human mistake such as truncate table, wrong delete etc,
so a delayed standby is more appropriate. Furthermore you can configure flashback database feature
on your standby database when you use real time apply.
Is this possible ?
1) Do you mean flashback will be enabled only in standby database except primary database ?
What are the changes made in primary that only transfer to standby if so ,
2) How do we recover deleted objects in standby ?
FYI : I have a doubt with time delay option, we will discuss this things in new thread. please do NOT mind it. -
InDesign auto-size frame feature not working in real time in InCopy why?
We have just recently migrated from InCopy CS4 to CS6 to take advantage of the new features like the auto resize frame option, however it now seems that this feature is not working in real-time.
Basically the steps are needed to be complete before it auto-resizes the frame in InCopy, we use both layout and assignment based workflows:
1. From an ID document ('doc1'), exported a 'layer' to IC, certain frames are set to auto-size in height using the text frame options. So that editorial can review and make changes to text and the frame should resize according to the specifications set. IC stories are saved to a folder located in a content folder inside the top issue working folder.
2. Editorial opens the IC software, then opens the ID 'doc1'. Check’s out correct .icml file and makes edits to frame with auto resize.
3. Frame does not resize according to text frame set options and InCopy file does not respond in same fashion as InDesign.
4. Change only occurs when InCopy file is closed and updated in InDesign, which is frustrating as this feature would save huge amounts of time serving editorial requests.
Has anybody experienced this type of workflow problem? If anyone can provide mw with some pointers as to what can I do to get this to update in real time perhaps run a script? Update file in InCopy and refresh I will very much appreciate their assistance. I have run out of ideas.
Thanks!We've had all sorts of problems with this feature as it should've worked straight out of the box but after some testing we have found that its something to do with the way you open the actual file in InCopy. Which is far from ideal and should have been UAT by Adobe before release.
This will not work consistently work if you open the designed .indd or .icma file in InCopy using the file open command within the application.
If you need this to work, the InCopy user has to open the .indd or .icma file by dragging and droping from OS windows explorer into InCopy, we use Windows 7 acrros all the teams. Check out .icml files add text changes to the set auto resized frames, this process will expand/collapse the frames to fit the content but as you have to use the drag and drop method to open the .indd and .icma file, 2 users cannot access the same time doc at the same time (a serious flaw in the programming architecture!) which stops people working in parallel. Save changes, check in .icml content and close .indd or .icma.
However the flaw comes in if you then open the .indd and .icma file in InCopy using the file open command within the application, before an InDesign user opens and saves the file (updates the design). The corrections added in the previous stage above, will not show the frames expanded/collapsed to take in the added text and instead show over matter???? The only way around this is to ask an InDesign user to open, update and save the design that way the InCopy user will see the same result no matter what file open method they use.
Another suggestion is to design the page to have some of the auto resize frames anchored within main body of text and that way the frames will expland/collapse when checking out and editing the content. However, this does cause issues with InDesign crashing etc. so we have tried to stop this method within the working group.
Have you experienced other more serious issues with InDesign crashing consistently when re-importing .icml files? See other forums here:
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/671820?start=80&tstart=0
http://forums.adobe.com/message/5045608#5045608
As far as we can see this is a major flaw in how the application(s) work, we have an enterprise agreement with Adobe and purchase a large volume of Adobe products globally but so far the technical support team are unable to find a solution to this and I'm not hopeful of any resolution soon even with the new release of Adobe CC. -
Edit in datasheet field is not updated in real time
Hello,
I have SharePoint 2007, a list viewed in Edit in DataSheet and a workflow attached to the list which updates a field FirstTitle in the list when the item is created.
The problem is that, while in Edit in Datasheet view, the field FirstTitle is not updated in real time so the workflow starts again and again because the field is still viewed as empty. The users keep receiving the error message "Your changes conflict
with those made concurrently by another user" (the other user being actually themselves). So they have to exit Edit in Datasheet and enter again in order to have FirstTitle field refreshed and that is annoying and totally unproductive.
I tried from SharePoint designer different checks, I used different actions like wait until item is changed and then stop but nothing worked. Is there any workaround to this ?
Thanks in advance,
Teddy

Program object schedule success but is not executed in real time
Hi all,
I have a batch file ad following is the content
set path=C:\WINDOWS\system32
echo Copying started at %date% %time%>>_date_.txt
XCOPY "
Boxis\c$\Program Files\Business Objects\Tomcat55\webapps\dswsbobje\WEB-INF\classes\qaawsWsdl.zip" "
Sxi31\d$\Program Files\Business Objects\Tomcat55\webapps\dswsbobje\WEB-INF\classes" /s /a /d
echo Copying finished at %date% %time%>>_date_.txt
echo Completed Successfully at %date% %time%>>_date_.txt
echo -
>>_date_.txt
pause
I have uploaded this batch file in enterprise. When I schedule it the status is shown as Success however the file qaawsWsdl.zip is not copied to the destination.
Note: When executing the batch file real time the file is getting copied
I have added the user in Replace a process level token policy
I have set program object rights to run script/binaries
SIA is running on domain account that has access to source as well as destination folders.
Am I missing something?
Environment
Business Objects XI 3.1 SP3 clustered (Also tried above in standalone, same issue)
Windows Server 2003The program object will run with the credentials of the user you provided in the schedule panel unless you did not provide any and you have set a default user account in the CMC under Application->CmC->Program object settings. THis user has to have access on the source and target directories.
What you can do is try to login manually on the BOBJ server using the credentials of the windows user that runs the program object and try to run the script from the command line.
The domain account under which the SIA is running is not really relevant

I have configured Primary & Standby databases in same Oracle Home. OS version is OEL 5. Database version is 10.2.0.1. Mahir: Yes I have my 4 standby redo logs!
I created the standby manually without using RMAN.
Hemant: if it asks for even first thread, then obviously it shows nothing is applied on Standby. By the way so it is not called a 'GAP', I think..!
Thanks. -

11 rows selected.Hello,
As previously posted, you have a GAP. So, you may have to investigate why the Archived logs cannot be applied.
To do so, you may check for the File System if any Archive destination is FULL. Also, you may have to verify the parameters on the PRIMARY and STANDBY site:
sqlplus "/ as sysdba"
show parameter fal
show parameter dest
show parameter config
show parameter broker
Check also the Alert log on both Primary and Standby.
If the DATAGUARD BROKER is enabled you may also execute this
dgmgrl
show configuration verbose
Also try to "tnsping" the services used in the Archive Destination from both site.
When you are sure that everything is correct then, verify if any Archived logs is missing and try to restore it if possible.
Else if everything is broken, and there's no way to get back the missing Archived logs, you 'll have to "rebuild" the Standby from a new Backup of the PRIMARY.
Hope this help.

Exchange2010 - archiving policy not applying
Hi there!
We have started using archiving/retention polices in our environment. This are the steps we have done:
1. Created new database on Exchange and named it Mailbox Archives.
2. Deleted all the Retenetion Policy Tags and put:
* Default 2 year move to archive (all other folders in the mailbox)
* Leave contacts alone (retention enabled: false)
* Leave drafts alone (retention enabled: false)
* Leave notes alone (retention enabled: false)
3. Under Retention polices Default Archive and Retention Policy added those 4 policy tags.
4. Enabled Archive on a USER1 and selected that his mailbox is created in new DB: Mailbox Archives.
5. Observed if Personal Archive will be visible on OWA2010 or OUTLOOK2010 and yes it appears but there is only deleted items and noone
messages were moved from "primary mailbox" to archive.
6. Ran: Start-ManagedFolderAssistant -Identity "[email protected]" -verbose
7. Personal Archive still empty.
Any suggestions why archiving polices are not being applied or where to look for the "progress bar" of this job.
bostjancNoup.
Cleared tha Application/System logs but none System Attendant Error appeared.
Meanwhile an IT friend of mine gave me some explanation regarding Exchange Archiving/retention polices. I don't know if information he gave me are right, but he said that 1st 24hours (1st cycle) Exchange is doing tagging, and the next workflow is
moving to archive.
It looks like that today everything moved to archive and we can close this case.
Before closing this case I have one question regarding Archiving Quota.
We have created a new database for archive mailboxes where we have changed:
Storage limits from default to
Issue warning at 15GB
Prohibit send at 16 GB
Prohibit send and recieve at 17GB.
But if we look on the client's mailbox/Mailbox settings/Archiving quota there's:
Archive quota: 51200 MB, soo I guess that tooks precidence right?
So changing default settings on the new database was not necessary, right?
With best regards

Data Guard: redo apply vs. real-time apply?
Hi all-
Anyone know what the difference is between redo apply (i.e., ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE DISCONNECT;) and realtime apply (i.e., ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE USING CURRENT LOGFILE DISCONNECT;)? I'm using maximum protection mode (log_archive_dest includes LGWR SYNC AFFIRM), and I'm not seeing any difference between redo apply and realtime apply. In either case, if I update the primary, the transaction gets recorded in both primary and standby online redo logs. Any thoughts?
Thanks!
RobThanks... it appears, however, that max availability and max protection are not (necessarily) determined by which of the ALTER DATABASE RECOVER... commands (above) are specified:
SQL> alter database recover managed standby database cancel;
Database altered.
SQL> alter database recover managed standby database using current logfile disconnect;
Database altered.
SQL> select protection_mode, protection_level from v$database;
PROTECTION_MODE PROTECTION_LEVEL
MAXIMUM PROTECTION MAXIMUM PROTECTION
SQL> alter database recover managed standby database cancel;
Database altered.
SQL> alter database recover managed standby database disconnect;
Database altered.
SQL> select protection_mode, protection_level from v$database;
PROTECTION_MODE PROTECTION_LEVEL
MAXIMUM PROTECTION MAXIMUM PROTECTION
SQL>
I specified the protection level from the primary when I first set data guard up, with "alter database set standby database to maximize protection," so maybe the two commands are synonymous but there for backward compatibility?

Code works when I step through it, not when run real-time though.
Hi,
I have a bit of code, a trivial problem in fact, that has completely defeated me.
private int recFibonacci(int N, long starTime) {
long totalTime = System.currentTimeMillis() - starTime;
if(N <= 0) return -3; //negatives not allowed
try {
if (N < 2) {
return N;
} else {
if (totalTime <= 1500) { //if it takes longer than 15 seconds, end.
N = recFibonacci(N - 2, starTime) + recFibonacci(N - 1, starTime);
} else {
return -1;//return if taking too long
} catch (StackOverflowError ex) {
return -2;//return if overflow
return N;
//This is the user accessible function for the recursive fibonacci method.
//It calls the private fibonacci function and passes it a startTime value.
//This is so that the startTime is only set at the user's call, not each time the
//function recurses.
public int recFibonacci(int N) {
setTime();
int retN = this.recFibonacci(N, getStartTime());
if (retN == -1) {
System.out.println("Calculation is is taking too long, try a non-recursive solution.");
return -1;
if (retN == -2) {
System.out.println("Stack overflow, recursed too deeply. Try a non-recursive solution, or a smaller number.");
return -2;
if (retN == -3){
System.out.println("Fibonacci sequence is undefined for negative numbers.");
return -3;
return retN;
}From the driver I call the single argument method.
When I debug and step through the code it runs perfectly. If the number is large enough to take a little while to execute,i get the appropriate error message. Also, if the number causes a stack overflow, I get that message as well.
When I run the code (realtime not stepping) I always get a strange return value if N is too large. Its always a different value, and I never receive the error code. I am at a complete loss to explain this discrepency.
Any ideas?Seems to me your problem could be the same as this poster's:

MSA 4.0 SP8 : Campaign description not updated in real time while saving?
with reference to this thread : refresh/update a list , I prefered creating my own instead of upping the older one
So the problem deals with data refreshing, or data updating into the objects :
When creating a campaign, after saving, the campaign description seems not to be updated. While we can see the right value we just entered,
- in the Campaign Search menu, the description is either empty (upon creation of a new campaign) or displays the old value if the description was modified.
- we have a Crystal report based on the campaign details (among other things), and the Description field (linked to the same datasource) is either empty or has the old value.
All is back to normal if we go to the Search menu, search the Campaign and open it.
Also, when creating a new campaign, and after saving (so there would be the Description bug), right-clicking on the tile and selecting the "Refresh All" option, it displays the campaign displayed before choosing to create a new one.
What is happening ? The controls involved are still standard, so is the "Refresh bug" a known one ? (I am comforting in this idea since i found the thread linked at the beginning)
Thanks and Regards,
FrançoisHi,
this is a well-known issue of 4.0 (I remember that I have read that this should be changed in 5.0 by defining a specific relation type for BO relations).
The detail tile is based on business object data but the search list is based on a record set retrieved by the search.
For all linked fields/properties there is an automatic refresh but NOT for data which is stored in a dependent object.
In your example campaigns are stored in BO BOCAMPAIGN with underlying IDES table smopccampn but the campaign short texts are stored in a separate object using table smopccamna.
Unfortunately this is a very technical explanation but at least it is one...:-))
Regards,
Wolfhard
