Archivelog mode during upgrade

HI All,
During upgrading the database from 10g to 11g... I will put my database from noarchivelog mode to archivelog mode to save the disk space.
Does this task improves or speedsup the process of upgradation or any impact.
Suggestions please.

when DB is archivelog mode and you put DB in startup upgrade mode.. and execute catupgrd.sql script it starts updating dictionary objects and generates archivelogs ..
Hence i put the DB in noarchive log mode..
Any performance impact by putting the upgrade process in noarchivelog mode in terms of time duration the backup is performed.No performance impact, But recommended to put in Archivelog mode, even though if you have good backup.
Also apart from this thread, have a question, The catupgrd.sql script execution duration depends upon the data disctionary contents right not on the DB size ? i am having this question. plz answer.The upgrade script creates and alters certain data dictionary tables. It also upgrades or installs the following database components in the new Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2) database:

I have database that needs to be upgraded (from 8.1.7 to 10.2.0.4) and this database runs in ARCHIVELOG MODE. My question should I turn archivelog mode off during upgrade? Do you see any benefits or issues with that?

Better option to put database in no archivelog mode. Take a backup and then put database in noarchivelog mode.
Log_archive_format will be different in 10g so while enable you may need to change this parameter.

I tried to upgrade my Iphone 4 software to ios 7.It then got stuck in recovery mode. I tried to work with Itunes but screen said phone was in recovery mode and had to be fixed in order to use itunes. I would like to know how to get in Unstuck without losing my current data, if at all possible. Thanks in advance for your help.

If the phone is in recovery mode, the access to the data is already lost. See this support document to restore your phone. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
IF you did the update via iTunes, the first thing iTunes would have done was to create a backup. Check and if it did, then you can restore to that backup.

Database crashes when placed in Archivelog mode

My production database continues to crash when I place it in Archivelog mode. This happen especially during the period most of the heavy jobs is running. On the other hand, I created a clone of this very same database on another server in Archivelog mode and it is running great. It’s also honest to say the jobs that run on the production are not running in the clone.
Any advice will be appreciated.

ARCHIVELOG mode needless for offline (cold) backups ?

When I read some tutorials or comments about backup with rman or expdb I saw often the recommendation to put database in ARCHIVELOG mode.
But this is from my point of view useless when I do such a backups in offline mode.
I want to backup the current state of the database - full stop.
Redo logs from ARCHIVELOG are not necessary. Only if I want to go further back from the current state back to the past they are of use.
Am I right?

Data pump does not require or use archivelog mode for importing, or exporting.
The archivelog mode is required, however, for RMAN backups, except for full database copy which it copies while the database is shutdown.
The Data Pump utility uses a parameter called FLASHBACK_SCN (and FLASHBACK_TIME) which reads the undo data, but not to be confused with archivelogs.
NOTE that if you set archivelog mode on, you may want to either turn off archivelog mode when importing, or set the tabelspaces to nologging (then back to logging when done). Otherwise, it may cause enough archive logs during import to fill up your file system.

During upgradation I got error at SACT_700 with following log

Kindly check the versions of E_BAMMAPNG and E_BAMUIBT. if you find Modif and Active version, then lock objects are not in active mode.
open the object in edit mode, check the object and activate it.
in search help Z_KSTAR and Z_SKA1, check if SPRAS is used as IMPORTING and/or EXPORTING parameter. remove the check of IMPORTING or EXPORTING parameter, save and activate the search help
MAKTX is available in KKAPARA_TA, hence remove it from ZAKKAPARA_TA. save and activate the structure and table.
after each modification, adjust and activate the database.

Archivelog mode Configuration

I am using Oracle10g , and OS is Windows XP. i had tried to enable it to archive mode by using the following
SQL> SELECT LOG_MODE FROM SYS.V$DATABASE;
LOG_MODE
NOARCHIVELOG
Then by adding the following lines in the Pfile
$ORACLE_HOME/admin/SID/pfile. I'll add the following lines to the end of the file:

log_archive_dest_1='location=/u02/oradata/cuddle/archive'

startup the database in mount mode and put it in archivelog mode
SQL> startup mount
SQL> alter database archivelog;
Database altered.
SQL> alter database open;

SQL> select log_mode from v$database;

ARCHIVELOG
when i log in to the db, i only can log in as sys user.when log in as sys user i got this error :
"ORA-00257: archiver error. Connect internal only,until freed."
What's the possible problem? And how to solve it?

hi surya,
i think your are not using your pfile during startup, and the changes you have made to your pfile does not take effect.
the parameter log_archive_start=TRUE is no longer supported in 10g.you should get a notification of parameter deprecated during startup.
you issued the command : startup , so your pfile is not being used.
you should issue : archive log list to see your archive destination
if it is default, it should be db_recovery_file_dest
next issue show parameter db_recovery_file_dest
check the space availability of the directory by issuing df -h, df -k
you can manually removed your old archive log but after you need to perform crosscheck from rman.
best practise is to do it using rman during your scheduled backup.

My Ipad got blocked during upgrade to 8.1.1. After verifying the upgrade it was turned off and now it is showing an electrical Cable (loading Cable), an Arrow and the iTunes logga. The cable is now inserted. Nothing happens. How do I go further?

Connect to a computer running iTunes. Your device is in DFU mode and needs to connect to a computer to reload the firmware. Just plugging in the cable did nothing.

Unable to enable archivelog mode and flashback mode

Hi,
I have oracle10g installed on Linux machine.
Everytime i try to enable ARCHIVELOG mode and FLASHBACK through the DB EM console and during the restart of the database, the database just startup and gets mounted, but does not get open. and not able to get the database to archive log mode.
and when i startup the database through the sqlplus i get this following error:
ORA-32004: obsolete and/or deprecated parameter(s) specified
i am not able to enable successfully archive log mode and flashback mode.
in sqlplus i did the following and got the following:

Database log mode No Archive Mode

so i was thinking maybe it is the archive log start sequence that is creating error.
because long back i had the database in archive log mode and because the archive log files got filled up, i disabled the archive mode and had to delete the archive log files.
Can someone help me bring the database in archive log mode which i am not able to successfully execute.

Error during Upgrade from 4.6c to ECC 6.0

Hi All,
We are facing an error when upgrading from 4.6c to ECC 6.0. We are facing this error on the table COEP - runtime object inconsistancy. What we found is there is ERP upgrade has created new extra fields in the table. In log file the error is specified as : Duplicate Field name, But we not able to find the duplicate field name in the table. Please kindly help as early as possible. The upgrade process is stuck.

Error in transaction KEA0 during upgrade

Dear All,
During upgrading the custmer system from 4.7 to ECC 6.0 we found some error in the transaction KEA0 while trying to activate the cross client for an operating concern.
The activation logs says that there are the syntax errors in the gereted subroutine pool: RK2O0100.
I however corrected the error and activated the code but again when I am trying to execute the same it gave me the same error and when I go to the sub routine pool I found that the changes are again undone and the previos version is activated. This happens repeatedly that the code is corrected and activated by me and says no error and ones I log off and login again it says the same error.
Help will be appriciated.

I face an issues during upgrade my current CUCM 9.1(2)SU1 to 9.1(2)SU2a, it show with this error message "There is not enough disk space in the common partition to perform the upgrade, for steps to resolve this condition please refer to CUCM 9.1(1) release notes or view defect CSCuc63312 in bug toolkit on Cisco.com". I had check the bug id and got 2 way to do it:-
1. reduce the amount of traces on the system, but I not ready want to do this
2. install a COP file name: ciscocm.free_common_space_v1.0.cop.sgn
If I select option 2, will it have any risk? Is it mean 9.1(2) - inactive version will be clear out from disk space or it will clear out 2 version - active and inactive version from disk space?
I need have some advice on this before I perform.

You will not be able to switch to the previous version after the COP file is installed. For example, if you are upgrading from Cisco Unified Communications Manager 9.0(1) to Cisco Unified Communications Manager 9.1(1) and the previous version is Cisco Unified Communications Manager 8.6, the COP file clears the space by removing the 8.6 version data that resides in the common partition. So after you apply the COP file, you will not be able to switch to the 8.6 version."
Additionally, regarding the first option, if you do not want to reduce the tracing levels you can still delete some old traces using RTMT which gives you an option of deleting the traces from the server as well as transferring / downloading them to your pc simultaneously by checking the 'delete from server' option on last page of log file collection option.
