Archives in dataguard.
Hi Group,
I have a doubt.
When configure dataguard (10g, 11g), while archive received from the primary are applied the standby database also generates archives?
No it just applies the archive from the primary. The only time it would generate is when you switch it to primary.
Remember the standby is in Read-only mode. (I assume from how the question was asked).
Does this answer your question?

i dont know what is this error also their is no such file in $ORACLE-HOME/dbs path
Plz Suggest for the same

LuckyThis behaviour is usually seen if a database has been restored from a backup which e.g. had a datafile dropped ( alter database datafile offline drop ) .
The database doesn't have an entry for the correct file name, but either the tablespace definition still exists or the control-file has some information about the file.
Verify the tablespace to which the file belongs and drop it, or issue the "offline drop" of the datafile again. -
My Active dataguard is not applying archives.
Dears,
Following is my setup
=====================
Primary:
prod on RAC with 2 nodes
Database : Oracle 11.2.0.3
OS OEL 5.7
storage : ASM
+DATADG
+FLASHDG
Standby:
sync on single node
Database : Oracle 11.2.0.3
storage : ASM
+DATADG
+FLASHDG
I've configured Active dataguard successfully and was able to apply archivelogs successfully instantly.
Archive log locations are +FLASHDG/prod/ARCHIVELOG/ AND /u02/arch --- on primary
Archive log locations are +FLASHDG/stby/ARCHIVELOG/ AND /u02/arch --- on standby
On Standby

Upto now everything is ok, means same data is sync on primary and standby. As my archive location was getting full, i've used this SQL query to clean them
SELECT 'alter diskgroup '||dg.name||' drop file
''+'||dg.name||''||SYS_CONNECT_BY_PATH(al.name,'/')||''';'
FROM v$asm_alias al, v$asm_file fi, v$asm_diskgroup dg
WHERE al.file_number = fi.file_number(+)
AND al.group_number = dg.group_number
AND fi.type = 'ARCHIVELOG'
START WITH alias_index = 0
CONNECT BY PRIOR al.reference_index = al.parent_index;
SELECT 'alter diskgroup '||dg.name||' drop file
''+'||dg.name||''||SYS_CONNECT_BY_PATH(al.name,'/')||''';'
FROM v$asm_alias al, v$asm_file fi, v$asm_diskgroup dg
WHERE al.file_number = fi.file_number(+)
AND al.group_number = dg.group_number
AND fi.type = 'BACKUPSET'
START WITH alias_index = 0
CONNECT BY PRIOR al.reference_index = al.parent_index;
In order to delete ARCHIVE logs which are stored in ASM FLASHDG, which will have a type of "ARCHIVELOG" and "BACKUPSET" i've used this above two queries.
After performing this steps , my Active dataguard is not applying archives.

Next log sequence to archive in Standby Database (RAC Dataguard Issue)
Hi All,
I just had implemented Data Guard in our server. My primary Database is RAC configured, but it is only single node. The other Instance was removed and converted it to Developement Instance. For the reason I kept the primary as RAC is when I will implement dataguard, my Primary Database is RAC with 7 nodes.
The first test is successful, and I was able to "switchover" from my primary to standby. I failed in the 'FAILOVER" test.
I restore my primary server and redo the setup.
BTW, my standby DB is physical standby.
When I try to switchover again and issue archive log list, below is my output.
SQL> archive log list;
Database log mode Archive Mode
Automatic archival Enabled
Archive destination USE_DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST
Oldest online log sequence 38
*Next log sequence to archive 0*
Current log sequence 38
SQL> select open_mode, database_role from v$database;
OPEN_MODE DATABASE_ROLE
MOUNTED PHYSICAL STANDBY
===============================================
SQL> archive log list;
Database log mode Archive Mode
Automatic archival Enabled
Archive destination USE_DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST
Oldest online log sequence 38
*Next log sequence to archive 38*
Current log sequence 38
SQL> select open_mode, database_role from v$database;
OPEN_MODE DATABASE_ROLE
READ WRITE PRIMARY
In my first attempt to switchover before I failed in "FAILOVER" test, I also issue +archive log list+ in both primary and standby database, and if I remember it right, next log sequence on both should be identical. Am I right on this?
Thanks in Advance.
Jay AOr Am i just overthinking on this?
Is dataguard only looking for the current and oldest log sequence? -
Hi,
in dataguard using oracle 10g r2
when i query on primary side:
select max(sequence#) from v$log where archived='YES';MAX(SEQUENCE#)
19
standby side:
select max(sequence#) from v$log where archived='YES';MAX(SEQUENCE#)
20
why it is showing different log sequences, it has to show similar sequences right?venky wrote:

we are monitoring through this script and it says no archive to apply but still 40 or some min lag.what conf we need to change .Db running on perf mode and SYNC lLGWR.Your post is unreadable, I do not think anyone can comment on what it is supposed to be reporting. There is a code formatter here http://www.dpriver.com/pp/sqlformat.htm that you might want to use, and then post the output enclosed within tags.

Dataguard physical standby archive log question
Hi all,
I will try to keep this simple..
I have a 4 node RAC primary shipping logs to a 2 node physical standby.
On the primary when I run 'alter system archive log current' on an instance I only see 1 log being applied on the standby, that is by querying v$archived_log.
If I run the following on the standby:
select thread#,sequence#,substr(name,43,70)"NAME",registrar,applied,status,first_time from v$archived_log where first_time
in
(select max(first_time) from v$archived_log group by thread#)
order by thread#
I get:
THREAD# SEQUENCE# NAME REGISTR APPLIED S FIRST_TIME
1 602 thread_1_seq_602.2603.721918617 RFS YES A 17-jun-2010 12:56:58
2 314 thread_2_seq_314.2609.721918627 RFS NO A 17-jun-2010 12:56:59
3 311 thread_3_seq_311.2604.721918621 RFS NO A 17-jun-2010 12:57:00
4 319 thread_4_seq_319.2606.721918625 RFS NO A 17-jun-2010 12:57:00
Why do we only see the max(sequence#) having been applied and not all of them?
This is the same no matter how many times I archive the current log files on any of the instances on the primary and also the standby does not have any gaps.
Hope this is clear..
any ideas?

as a reminder we have a 4 node RAC system shipping logs to a 2 node RAC standby. There are no gaps but only one log is ever registered as being applied.
Why is that? Why arnt all logs registered as being applied? -
V$archived noy sync in Dataguard
Hi,
My question is about a doubt that I had y my Dataguard.
Few days ago I did a scn incremental restore in order to sync Primary and Standby instances, the problem is v$archived_log is not updated. Let me show you
Primary:
select max(sequence#), to_char(next_time,'DD-MON-YY:HH24:MI:SS'), applied from v$archived_log group by to_char(next_time,'DD-MON-YY:HH24:MI:SS'), applied order by 1 desc
923426 17-FEB-13:07:16:38 NO
SQL> select max(sequence#) from v$archived_log where applied='YES';
MAX(SEQUENCE#)
915252
Standby:
select max(sequence#), to_char(next_time,'DD-MON-YY:HH24:MI:SS'), applied from v$archived_log group by to_char(next_time,'DD-MON-YY:HH24:MI:SS'), applied order by 1 desc
923426 17-FEB-13:07:16:38 YES
When I do automatic recover the gap is:
Fetching gap sequence in thread 1, gap sequence 923427-923526
My question is why I have different values on that queries?
Thanks a lot!
Edited by: 970676 on Feb 21, 2013 4:31 PMHello;
If I understand the question correctly its because of how you query v$archived_log. The max(sequence#) hurts the query because it does not allow you see the different values of DEST_ID.
Try changing the query to include DEST_ID and use WHERE sysdate > -1 ( on one of the date columns ) to see a smaller range.
clear screen
set linesize 100
column STANDBY format a20
column applied format a10
SELECT
name as STANDBY,
SEQUENCE#,
applied,
completion_time
from
v$archived_log
WHERE
DEST_ID = 2 AND NEXT_TIME > SYSDATE -1;The try this query from your Primary :

Delete Archive Logs In Dataguard Environment
Hi YFA,
I'm facing a FI, in my DG environrmnt :
OS : Solaris 5.10
Oracle : 10.2.0.4
I've this env :
Prod >>> Prod_DG
In my rman shell svcript that delete archivelogs I make a "Delete Input" after Backup,
but
I fear that the archivelog are deleted without being applied in the dataguard Database.
Does anyone has find a workarround? or does it exist a parameter in RMAN to bypass this ?

Archive logs are not transferring to DR server in DataGuard
Dear Gurus,
We have implemented data guard on 10g and it was working properly till last week.All of a sudden it is stopped working and i am getting the error in primary server alert log as
"ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
PING[ARCr]: Heartbeat failed to connect to standby 'STANDRR1'"
and the trace file entries are as follows
" Error 12154 received logging on to the standby,Error 12154 connecting to destination LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2 standby host 'STANDRR1',Error 12154 attaching to destination LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2 standby host 'STANDRR1',ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified".
We have changed nothing on either side of the servers.
Please suggest how to resolve the issue and Thanks in advance.
Thanks & Regards,

Hi everybody!
I have a problem. Some weeks ago I opened a post related to this issue. We have two dataguards with dataguard broker. One of them is resync (thanks to mseberg and this forum) and now I have problems with the other.
Once I have learned how to configure and start/stop dataguard broker, I have a more basic problem, which is to resync it. I follow a process, where I backup the primary with RMAN, I copy the rman files to the other server with the controlfile, at once, I recover with rman again.
The problem is that it is too big, 2 hours for backing it up more or less, and when I restore it, no archivelog list appears being syncronized.
I have followed the same process than the other one and I can't resync it. I think there is something at my params or something new at 11g version...

5 Dataguard questions on implementation and maintainence
I have created Oracle10g Dataguard Physical standby. Everything seems to working properly. I switch a log@primary and i see it applied at standby. In OEM the Primary instance is shown as "Primary" and Dataguard Normal.
Questions
=======
1.I used cold backup to create physical standby where i copied just the datafiles. I DID NOT copy the online logfiles from primary DB . Is this ok?
Reason i am asking is, I am seeing this in alertlog (Please see in Bold below). Could this message in alert be ignored?
Fri Mar 14 16:11:55 2008

2. Physical standby was created in default mode " MAX PERFORMANCE" but i followed the manual and i realize i created standby redo logs at primary DB.
Is it true we do not need standby redo logs for MAX PERFORMANCE mode?
3. What is the quickest way to create a physical standby taking into consideration the downtime of the primary database.
4. Can we setup Dataguard for a live running production database (assuming prod is all set with prepare steps as laid out in manual) without downtime.
5. I hear dataguard management involves lot of shell scripting for log shipping, failover, switchover etc. Looking at 10g manual all these appear to be handled automatically if configured. Is it true that all the Dataguard functionality is auto and does not need shell scripting?
These are the things came up to mind. Please list any others you can think of for a Dataguard implementation. Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks and have a great time.
S~My question is , I havent created either online logfiles or standby log files on the secondary database, then how is RFS process applying the logs to the standby database?
If you do not create standby log files on the secondary database, then RFS process will apply logs from primary DB's archieved redo logs, refer 5.1 Introduction to Redo Transport Services.(http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/log_transport.htm)
Also i see entries in v$log@standby, since i haven't created log files@standby where is this info getting from?
It will be through the entry in Stndby DB parameter file "LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT=
'/arch1/chicago/','/arch1/boston/','/arch2/chicago/','/arch2/boston/'
Thanks -
How to Configure Oracle Management Server (OMS) with Dataguard Broker
Dear Experts,
i have a production DB (192.168.200.9) 9.2.0.1.0 on Server 2003
