Archiving in ProRes? Seriously?!

Ok, so I'm finally taking the big step from HVD to ProRes. I have been using HDV as my editing codec for almost 3 years now and I have never had any problems with the smaller projects (online videos and such). But when it comes to a bigger project (like a feature film) or as soon as I start mixing up different footage FCP starts acting up so I guess I don't really have a choice- I'll start using ProRes! And then oh my!! Was I surprised when I saw the difference in the file sizes! All of the projects that I've done before have been archived as HDV - 720p60 because that was what gave me the smallest file size. And now I'm faced with this ProRes beast and I'm so tempted to just keep archiving everything as HDV - 720p60 and I know some of you will bury me alive for all I'm worth just for doing that.
So I did a little search on here to see what people are suggesting about the different archiving options and it seems like most people suggest that one uses ProRes to archive. Unfortunately, I do 2 projects per week and if I were to archive those in ProRes I would be using up those hard drives like chewing gum. I know a lot of people are going to tell me "But hard drives are cheap! Don't be stingy!" but in the economy today I just can't justify an expense like that. Let alone the idea of having dozens of hard drives sitting around my house sounds scary.
So, this is my question - can someone tell me a way to archive my footage into small (40GB is not small!) projects without losing too much of the quality? Most of the footage I work with is HDV anyway, shot on mini DV tapes... And, no, a $5000 dollar storage solution is NOT a solution to me! I'd rather chew gum! If you know what I mean

OK...If they want to keep a lot of these projects alive constantly, time to start rethinking your media storage.  Look into getting 2TB or 3TB Seagate drives...bare SATA drives, no enclosure, cheaper...and keep each project on a separate drive.  Then you can access the drives via a drive dock, like this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817392044&cm_re=drive_dock -_-17-392-044-_-Product
Or if they span multiple drives, or you want multiple drives online at a time, get this (I have this):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816111149&cm_re=5_bay_encl osure-_-16-111-149-_-Product
I have an eSATA card in my tower, and then connect to the device via eSATA.  It takes bare drives, and is trayless.  Meaning the drives slide in and out simply.  This way you can just take the drive out, put it on a shelf, and go back to it when you need it.  And the drives are CHEAP.  $99 for 2TB, and $130 for 3TB.

  • How can I back up project with just the used part of the clips?

Hello all... I have a FCPX project that I would like to back up.
Duplicate project is copying all of the event and all of the original clips...
In my case the original clips are 1-2 hour interviews... I use about 2-3 minutes of about 30 of them...
    Back up is ridiculous...
I'm looking for more of a media manager type of back up where it just backs up the clips from the timeline and gives me maybe  a bit of a handle on each clip...
    Make sense?
I hope so... cause I've spent about 3 days trying to get this project on an external drive...
    Not very successful so far...
    SOS
    Thanks!

I'm fairly sure Apple assumes most people want to keep their original footage... "forever." Media management in FCPX has received quite a lot of praise from professionals.
Everything comes down to prep and organization.
Projects are just pointers into media clips and render files.  If you want to trim down your projects, go to the File menu and select Delete Project Render Files...
Deleting Event clips will kill a project no matter what. Archiving a project without the associated Event media is pointless. Best advice is to always keep your original media. That way you can reconstruct an Event later for the clips your project requires. As far as I know, there is no way to  delete (to the trash) Event clip ranges.
If you know that you won't be using 90% of your footage and want to delete the extraneous original footage, I would recommend using Quicktime 7 Pro and selecting the ranges you think you'll need beforehand. This is easily accomplished by opening your original clips, setting an In and Out point (just like in FCPX) -- select Copy, then File > New and Paste. Save as a Self-Contained clip and import it into FCPX. QT7Pro does not alter the original footage (as much as possible, I imagine it has to occasionally build an intitial i-frame if your original is something like H.264, but other than that, you can't tell the difference.)
To preserve a project entirely, you will  need to back up the associated Event clips as well. Those are the clips you need to worry about trimming. You should use Copy files to Final Cut Events folder on Import. You should be able to delete any transcoded media (High Quality and/or Proxy) before archiving (don't take my word as an absolute on that -- Tom probably knows for sure.) For simplicity, you should create an Event for JUST the clips you will be using for the project to backed up. That way, at the end, you can group the Event folder and the Project together for archiving (and with the smallest footprint).
You could also simply Export your (trimmed) project as H.264 (FCPX uses the highest quality settings) without titles, effects, generators or transitions to retain the portions of clips you want to save/archive and delete all the original media — and forego everything stated above. You will still have an exceptional quality source for any subsequent projects using the same material and it would be compact enough. I wouldn't archive with ProRes (except maybe Proxy... it's about the same bitrate as the H.264 generated, except I think the H.264 would still be a better choice.) Using ProRes kind of defeats the purpose of archiving.

  • Weekly?  Daily?  backups

I have some possibly dumb questions about Time Machine. My weekly backups, which go back to May, 2008, are always from a Friday. Is a weekly backup simply one of the daily backups from that week? Which one? Or does it somehow incorporate file changes from all daily backups from that week?
Why Friday? Are everyone's weekly backups done on Friday, or is that because my first one was on a Friday (I don't know if it was, but maybe).
Similarly, is a daily backup simply one of the hourly backups? If so, which one? The last one of the day, or ?
Thus, if I create a file on Tuesday and delete it on Thursday, will it "miss" my weekly backup? If I leave it there over the weekend then will it be included?
I often use TM as a casual archiving system. Serious files get saved in other ways, and I use SuperDuper as well. But sometimes I just want to have TM contain certain things for easy retrieval.

    Yes.
    Which one?
    The first of the day.
Or does it somehow incorporate file changes from all daily backups from that week?
Not exactly. Each backup is, in effect, a full backup. I know that seems odd, but it's true. See [How Time Machine works its Magic|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Works.html] for an explanation. When Time Machine "thins" expired backups, it simply deletes them. But each remaining one is still a full "snapshot" as of the date & time of the backup.
Why Friday? Are everyone's weekly backups done on Friday
No. And there's nothing special about a weekly backup, other than being kept longer.
is that because my first one was on a Friday (I don't know if it was, but maybe).
    Yup. Mine are Thursdays.
Similarly, is a daily backup simply one of the hourly backups?
    Yes.
If so, which one? The last one of the day, or ?
    The first of the day.
Thus, if I create a file on Tuesday and delete it on Thursday, will it "miss" my weekly backup?
Yes. The first backups of Wednesday and Thursday will be kept for a month; then deleted.
If I leave it there over the weekend then will it be included?
Yes, the first backup of the week will be kept as long as there's room on the drive.
I often use TM as a casual archiving system. Serious files get saved in other ways, and I use SuperDuper as well. But sometimes I just want to have TM contain certain things for easy retrieval.
Yes, that's exactly what it's designed to do. So the backups of anything that was on your system for at least 24 hours will be kept for at least a month; anything that was on your system for at least a week will be kept as long as there's room.

  • Sorry, a serious error has occured... can't read Premiere 2.0 archived project

I am in the process of upgrading from Premiere Elements 2.0 to Premiere Elements 7, and also from Windows XP to Windows 7.  I have XP on one hard drive, and Windows 7 on another.  I've installed Premiere Elements 7 on the Windows 7 disk.
When I create a new project on PE 7, everything works OK.  When I try to read anything that I created in PE 2, I get the following...
"Sorry, a serious error has occured that requires Adove Premiere Elements to shut down.  We will attempt to save your current project."
In PE 2, I archived a project onto the hard drive Windows 7 hard drive, in 'my videos' folder, but even that causes me to get the above error.
Does anyone have any suggestions that I could try?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ron

You could export to DV-AVI and then read it in to PRE7 (but this will embed any transitions or effects into the import file).
    Cheers,
    Neale

What can I do to start the program again, when it does not answer? The only message I get is that there is a serious problem.

Thanks a lot for your quick reply! However, it works again, after a restart!

  • ProRes for Archival?

Just curious if anyone has had thoughts on ProRes as an archival format. My project archive has videos ranging from DV to HDV to ProRes to Uncompressed, and I'm wondering if I should standardize them all to something high-quality and (hopefully) future proof.
    Thanks!
    Zak

I know, I know; I'm not looking for higher quality, and I know nothing is future proof. I'm just wondering if, in your experience, it's better to keep archived masters in their original (and possible outdated) format, or update them so they're a) standardized and b) "more" future proof.
Another way of looking at it: say my only master copy of an old project is on VHS. Now the VHS is technically the best quality, but I can see a time in a few years when my VHS player breaks and I can't find a new one to buy. Wouldn't it be logical to digitize that tape to a good, relatively new format and store it that way?

  • ProRes versions of VHS tapes for archival purposes

I need to create archival digital copies of some aging VHS tapes. I have a sony mini-dv deck that I used with iMovie as a passthrough for my VHS deck. Final Cut Pro X won't let me import the footage without the timecode. I know other people have had the same issue and they end up using iMovie but I haven't seen a solution that will allow me to import the video Pro Res quality. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Kara

I recently archived about 400 hrs of original VHN footage shot back in 1985-95 era. Majority of them were captured directly via s-video cable and rca audio. The codec I used was DV25 and few DV50. Pro Res is quite overkill for VHS. The format is a mere 240 lines. Quite outdated to today's 1080p TV standards. Used FCP 7 and no tc needed. When comes to edit, switched to FCP X.
When you're doing DV on any deck, you're adding another layer of hardware decode and encode. DV has a 5:1 compression ratio w/ 4:1:1 sampling. It's not the best intermediate format. I'd try to minimize anything via DV and get it directly by using real time hardware. But this needs a decent capture card to do the job right the first time.
But for Betacam SP w/ analog component, I did capture via DV50 and Pro Res std. That should preserve ther analog 4:2:2 Beta SP tape formats.

  • How can I disable iMessages from archiving messages and attachments?

I noticed while browsing ~/Library\Messages/ that iMessages has been archiving my messages (Archive folder) and saving attachments (in a separate Attachment folder). Under the settings for iMessages on OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion, I don't see any options to disable this. The only thing close to that is already unchecked: Save history when conversations are closed.
Any ideas why iMessages is saving all this information? How do I disable it? My concern is that it's going to keep accumulating data overtime. I don't want to keep having to go back in there and delete those two folders constantly.

    Hi,
This somewhat date back to the way iChat's Saved Chats were once Stored.
At iChat 5 (in Snow Leopard) you could choose to see the last chat - (when opening an new chat with a person you had chatted with before) or parts of the Last Chat in terms of the Last so many IMs.
Example Pic of iChat 5's Prefs
Since then the management choices of the Save Chats has changed in both iChat 6 and Messages.
Messages stores Chats two ways if they are iMessages.
You can elect to Save them in Messages > Preferences > Messages.
It also store the chat.db and other databases items which includes the Attachment items
The chat.db is the bit that fill in the "history" if you iMessage the same person even if you are not saving the Chat in a formal sense in the App's Preferences.
This is irrespective if your delete the Conversation from the Messages main window.
How big these Databases get obviously depends on your iMessages usage.
Striker's link seems to be about a similar issue on an iPhone (I presume it transfers to other iOS devices) but I am not sure that it is relevant in this situation.
    Edit.
I should have been clear that you cannot change the database behaviour.

  • "Archive" and "View" buttons don't work after folio update

    Hi all,
I have a subscription to the professional edition and I have built a custom viewer app for Android. I have built about 10 folios and at first download all is ok, the folios are displayed without problems and the app works fine except for one issue: "Archive" button don't work, when I tap on it, near folio cover, nothing happens, the folio does not disappear from folios list.
But the serious problem occurs when I perform a folio update from Folio Producer ('Update content' from adobe dashboard DPS): both "Archive" and "View" buttons stop working, nothig happens when I tap tap on them and I am forced to uninstall and reinstall the application on tablet (.apk file) to see folio changes in my custom viewer.
This is very annoying as well as time expensive.
Tablet is Samsun Galaxy Tab SII with Android 3.2.
    Any help is appreciated.

To the best of my knowledge, the SII is a smartphone and not a tablet device, and the official claim is (correct me if I'm wrong) that DPS on Android is corrently tablet only.
Anyway, it seems strange to me so checked and found out that even though the DPS apps are not available when you search for them in the Play Market of a smartphone you can still force load them to the phone and run them.
I've done it on both a Samsung SIII running Android 4.0.4 and a Samsung GT-I9070 running Android 2.3.6 (I currently don't have a device running Android 3.2)
The interface is so small that it's hardly possible to use it, but it works.

  • Finalcut lag ProRes 422 HD

This is not a question about how to fix this issue, this is a question about why, in terms of software, this lag occurs.
I experienced some serious lag on a brand new macbook pro and I found the reason why.
When I playback at 51% of the HD video size -> lag.
When I playback at 50% of the HD video size -> no lag.
Do FinalCut re-compress each frame when a video playback is needed? The reason behind the 51% seems odd. Someone can clear my mind about that?

ProRes HD is a very huge file size, and can be very system intensive.  Only needed if you're working with stuff from a RED, Arri, or other such high end camera.  DSLR's should use ProRes LT, no image quality loss at all, smaller files sizes.
No, FCP does not recompress each frame for playback.  You're simply hitting a performance threashold for your total system abilities (CPU, GPU, RAM, Hard Drives, etc).
What Mac are you on, how much RAM, what is your hard drive config?

  • A serious error has occurred or how the 7.1 update ruined my life.

Ever since the 7.1 update to Premiere, I've had nothing but problems. The desktop app fails to update for every update, and appears to think it's out of date when it's not and then the icon in the menu bar will be grayed out until I reboot 3-4 times. The "workaround for that seems to be to force quit and uninstall the "previous" version and then download the "new" version from the creative cloud web portal. This wouldn't be that large of an issue, but it happens almost every other day.
Then once I can actually open Premiere, the real fun with errors begins. I have received the "A Serious Error has occurred" screen on 30-40 (not exagerating) delightful occasions in the past couple of weeks, with no real details of what is actually wrong. It usually occurs while trying to fix an issue where my multi-clips aren't showing the audio waveforms in the sequence, but it has happened plenty of other mysterious ways. This is even more complicated, because it's happening on multiple systems and one of them isn't even using the 7.1 update and another is offsite and using different hardware. The same annoying error occurs across them all.
Another super cool "feature" is that Mercury Playback Engine capabilities come and go as they please. Sometimes they work for Premiere or Media Encoder or After Effects, but sometimes they just pick one for that given day and don't let the other apps playback. All of the systems GPU were working just fine in 7.0.1, but now wtf Adobe?
My system specs are varied, but the general idea is this:
    Mac Pro systems (4,1-5,1) 2.3GHz - 2.93GHz
    16-24GB RAM
Nvidia QuadroFX 4800, Nvidia QuadroFX 4000, Nvidia GeForce 9800
    OS X 10.7.4 and 10.7.5
A few of the systems have AJA Kona 3 and Kona 3G
Most of the media is being accessed across 10gigE to a ProMax Platform, and the project files are local on SSD's.
I have the bug report from Apple, so if that helps let me know so I can get that info to someone who cares.

    Hi Kevin,
I'm still planning on attempting the 10.8.5 install on one of the affected systems. In the process, I have uncovered a new issue related to the CUDA acceleration not being there at all on a system that used to have it. That particular Mac Pro system only has a GeForce GT120, but the point is that in CS6 and CC, the CUDA was working until this latest update. The other systems have QuadroFX 4000 and 4800 cards, so those seem to be getting CUDA playback, however it is intermittent.
As for the OS X 10.7.4 not allowing me to install 7.1... That is correct. The Creative Cloud Desktop app was failing updating itself (as it still does on every "update") quite a bit, I don't remember any specific messages, but I did see somewhere along the process that I wasn't able to install the Premiere 7.1 update with my 10.7.4. One of the systems here is have a ton of issues with AE, but that's a whole new thread I think. I will attach some of those errors for kicks, but all of these problems occured with the introduction of the virus that is Creative Cloud into our working environment.
I am working with a wide variety of media: R3D, 5D, F55 4K XAVC, Canon C-300, XDCAM EX, FS-100, ProRes. The projects that I've been having the most issues with lately has the Canon C-300 .MXF media mixed with 5D h.264 as a 2 camera multi-cam set up. The other project that was giving me a lot of trouble right when I installed the Premiere 7.1 update was R3D and F55 4K XAVC. Both issues were the "A Serious Error has occurred. Premiere will try and save your project" vague warning. I usually only lost work since the last Autosave 20 minute interval, but sometimes that is a lot of work and when it happens 10 times in one day, that is unacceptable.
Here are some answers to some more of those questions:
What other software are you running?
These are all possible conflicting software (IMO) that are installed:
    Final Cut Studio 3
    Avid Symphony 6.0.3
    Cinema 4D R14
    RED CineX
    Davinci Resolve
    Nuke7
Adobe CS5.5 and CS6 are still installed
Do you have any third-party effects or codecs installed?
Yes. Trapcode Suite, Primatte, lots of scripts in After Effects. Lots of codecs installed from Sony, Avid, RED, Canon, etc.
I think I've answered most of the other questions in this thread, but hopefully that helps. I will update when I'm able to get 10.8.5 installed. I suppose a clean install of 10.7.5 perhaps might have the same chances of fixing this as well.
    Here is the Premiere Error:
Here are a series of AE errors, that might need their own thread:

  • I can't restore the iPhone archive because a certain file is unrestorable

Hello everyone, I'm new to this Discussion Board I've been an iPhone 3GS 32GB user for over a year now, and I decided to make an account here and start this topic, because I've got a really serious problem... As the topic title can give you a hint on what is going on, let me describe everything in detail:
Not so long ago I had upgraded my iPhone with iOS 4.0 to 4.0.1 (I did that 1 day after the official release of the new version). 2 days ago, when I wanted to make a call, I came across an issue manifesting itself by iPhone nearly instantly showing "Call ended" and later on "Call failed", consecutively. It was happeninng so, regardless of whom I wanted to call. What's noticable is that I could send and receive text messages, as well as receive incoming calls, without any problems. Making some research on the Internet, I found out that similar issues had been occurring with the earlier versions of the OS. None of the solutions described (turning off the automatic date and time setting and so on) didn't help me, as well as turning the iPhoone on and off, trying to get into the DFU mode, and downgrading to iOS 4.0 (I couldn't downgrade anyway) which didn't help either. Not knowing what to do next, I restored my iPhone to the factory settings, losing, as obvious, all apps, text messages, contacts etc. along the way. After this restore I was able to make outgoing cals again but wanting to have all my text messages, I decided to load the newest backup onto my iPhone, and see what would happen. After loading the backup, I had all my contest back again but I was also again unable to make outgoing calls... (this proved that the issue was caused by some saved iPhone settings, or something similar, but not the iOS version itself). In this case I had nothing else to do, but to get back to the factory settings once again. As I cared abot keeping all my text messages, I read on the Internet the the way to save them is to copy the file called "3d0d7e5fb2ce288813306e4d4636395e047a3d28" from the backup folder. In the next step you were supposed to make a backup of the phone restored to the factory settings, and overrite the file in that backup with the one you had copied earlier (to spare myself any problems, I also copied the "31bb7ba8914766d4ba40d6dfb6113c8b614be442" file with the contacts). The problem turned out to be the fact that in the guide about all these files, there wasn't mentioned any information that you also should copy the following files: Info.plist, Manifest.plist i Status.plist (unfortunately, I found out about this fact later). I ompletely lost the rest of these files be deleting folders with the previous backup.
So now, when I put the files I had copied earlier to the folder with the new backup, I am presented with this kind prompt while trying to restore: "iTunes cannot restore "iPhone (XXX)" because some files from the archive could not be restored" (or something similar because, since I have the Polish version of iTunes installed, I'm not sure how it is put in the original literally). I've tried to restore these *.plist files with some file recovery tools. These tools do find these files from the same day (that is, the 18th), but they differ from each other by the time they were last modified (some are from 12:19A.M., others from 3:20P.M. etc.), as well as they differ from the 2 files I had copied by the same manner. I assume that these differences in time (as well as in checksums that I found out about) cause the backup to not be seen by iTunes when I put these revovered *.plist (along with the 2 files that I had copied) in the backup folder. The same result occurrs when I recover these files with the long names the same way I had recovered the *.plist files, and put them in the backup folder with these *.plist files.
I can't deny that I would really like to have all my text messages back.... Does anyoneone know how to import them back on the iPhone from that "3d0d7e5fb2ce288813306e4d4636395e047a3d28" file, because I'm getting really frustrated here I read it could be achieved by changing the *.plist files checksums if iTunes doesn't want to restore a backup the normal way. If this is the only way to do it (or if there are any other work arounds), please guide me on how to do it. I really need help

Would you recommend upgrading again to Mountain Lion after the Snow Leopard upgrade?
Yes, Lion and Mountain Lion are a significant upgrade from Snow Leopard, and they fully support iCloud syncing.
First verify that your model number supports Mountain Lion (I'm pretty sure it does), then check how much RAM you have. Your model only comes with 1 GB (https://support.apple.com/kb/sp16), which is inadequate for later versions. Upgrade to 4 GB if you haven't already. The upgrade is a do-it-yourself project that will take 5 minutes if you are at all handy with modern electronics; you just remove the 1 GB DIMM and insert 2 2GB DIMMs. Here's an example of a memory upgrade kit: http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Modules-Macbook-KTA-MB667K2-4GR/dp/B001265GI2/ref =sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1362357462&sr=8-2&keywords=imac+memory+2gb.
This is not an endorsement of this vendor or this manufacturer; it is just a reference for the type of memory you need. (Not that there's anything wrong with Amazon or Kingston.)

  • Sorry a serious error has occurred

I am trying to open a wip project and I get the message 'Sorry a serious error has occurred' and Premier pro attempts to save the project.
This happens on every version of the project and every autosave version. I then tried to import one of those projects into a new project and got the same error. I then created a new project and tried to use the files that the previous project was editing and every time I import a file I get the same error.
The files all play on QT and are in Prores format. They all imported and worked in premier pro previously.
    Any ideas?
    Steve

    Hi theendisnye,
Are you using any external drive as a media drive. If yes, then try the internal drive and move the assets to the internal drive and check. If this doesn't help then try uninstalling and reinstalling the program again and update it to the latest updates.

  • "Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Premiere Elements to be shut down. We will attemp

I have been getting this message just a few nights ago after working on a project. Premiere was working at first for a few days but then this happened. Now everytime I try to activate the program it displays "Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Premiere Elements to be shut down. We will attempt to save your current project".
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling premiere 3.0 but that didn't help. WILL SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My computer is a Dell Dimension Desktop running on Windows XP with 256 MB of RAM

There are a couple of similar threads, so I will post my solution to you also. This worked when I had the same problem.
I have found a couple of steps for a solutions that worked for the "encountered serious error" message when attempting to share the project to disk or computer file. Here was my solution that worked.
    1. I already compiled a project that took me 2 months and used video, photo, music. I added a new video track 'before' the other tracks and inserted a black jpg image, stretch it the entire timeline and make the opacity 0%. This covers any unseen 'gaps' in the project and won't interfere or cover anything else in the project.
    2. Go to file - project archiver - copy project to a new folder away from the current folder (this will include a copy of all media used in the timeline of the project - trust me it's worth the duplication!).
    3. Go to preferences - clear your media cache. Close the program.
    4. Hold down the left ctrl + shift and then click on the Premiere program icon. Keep holding the ctrl + shift until the welcome screen for Premiere appears.
    5. Open the new *.prel project you had saved in the new folder in step 2.
    6. Go to share and make your disk or computer file.
After trying all the recommendations of the various posts, this is what I found that worked (I didn't find step 2 in a post but was just trying to back up the work I did and found that it created a new *.prel file!). For some reason, when previously trying to share the project with the original *.Prel file, it didn't like having all the media in different folders from the project, even if they were a in a sub-folder within the project folder. It wanted all the media in the SAME FOLDER as the project.
I just now have a new error that I can't find the solution for in support or the forum yet. But that's another post.
I hope this helps someone else!

  • Re: "serious error" message when starting cs6

    Hi Everyone,
I currently can't start cs6 6.0.5 on my MacBook Pro running 10.7.5 with 4 GB memory. I get the serious error message and then it shuts down. This also happened before I upgraded to 6.0.5 and then it worked fine for a couple months. Then, it started giving me the "serious error" message when I tried to capture video. Now, it just gives it to me again when I start the program. For weeks, I've searched the other "serious error" message threads, but haven't found a solution yet. I've reinstalled a bunch of times and cleared the preferences, but nothing's worked so far. I really need some help. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dave
