  • Archiving Materials - MM_MATNR

    People,
I have a situation with Archiving Materials:
If a material is deleted (logical deletion), the archiving process must delete this material if there is no active purchasing document for it.
We can see, if we have a purchase order with this material, the archiving process does not delete it.
Now, when we have a Maintenance Order (PM) with this material, for instance, for next 3 months, when archiving process runs, it deletes this material.
I think this process it is not checking the Maintenance Orders. Is it possible? What can I check?
    Thanks a lot!

How is this material entered as component?
you probably had never a quantity maintained.
Once you have had a quantity, then you have a reservation, and with a reservation you cannot archive the material.
I get message:  & reservation / dependent requirements exist

  • Archiving Materials MM_MATNR- set parameters?

I am customizing the settings in SARA to Archive Materials (MM_MATNR) and I want to set logic so the system doesn't archive Materials that are less than 1 year old.  So if I create an item, have no transaction against it, and run the archiving program, how do I make sure it doesn't archive this new materials?

There is no provision within SAP to set residence time for Material master records (MM_MATNR). Hence it is not possible to set the kind of logic you require in SARA. What you can possibly do is this.
    1. Flag the material master record which are older than 1 year for deletion
    2. In the archive variant uncheck the "Consider matls w/o del. flag"
Refer the following link for flagging material master records for deletion

  • Archiving materials - Arquiving selection empty

    Hi Gurus,
To archive a list of materials (without PO's, stock, etc) I do the following:
    - Flag materials for deletion (t-code MM06);
    - Create archive file (t-code MM71), or at least I try to do so (the jobs have status finished).
But when I'm going to MM72 or SARA - Delete, the arquiving selection is empty. I also runned program MMREO050 and I receive the following message: BA248 "Archive file c:\temp\MMO cannot be opened for write program".
Does anyone know what should I do to have the archive file in MM72 or SARA?
    Thanks in advance!
    Best regards,

    Thanks for your answer Jurgen,

you really have a lucky hand in finding poor documentation.  Why dont you directly search in help.sap.com
The technical archiving process is well doucmented there, step by step.
further you should search OSS notes with key "MM_MATNR", there are plenty, make sure you are current with notes before you start. But more intresting in the beginning are the consultant notes there, explaining the errors  you may discover when archiving materials.
of course you have to do this for any object that you need to archive before.
Which objects this can be in theory can be seen in the network graphics, this answer was already given.
But you have such a network graphic for any object that you need to archive before.....
of course you do not need to archive any object there, just objects you use, and only those records from the object that are relevant to the materials you want to archive.
Usually you set up a archving project, defining residence times for all potential archiving objects, then you do customizing and finally you start testing and then real archiving. this is explained in much more detail in help.sap.com and service.sap.com/plm
And do not underestimate the effort. you need consultants from any module, and people from the business, and good to have auditors as well in the project. you will certaiinly face possible error, any process that is not defined and excuted clean from beginning to the end will give you headaches.
I had a 50 day project (just my time),  to get familiar with the object, doing its customizing and execution (this can be different from object to object, even you start everything from SARA) and of course documentation. I have already spend more than 70 days in 3 years (it is not a high priority project) and I have not really archived materials that were in use yet.
if a material was never used in dependent objects, then you can archive it right away.
SAP does extensive checks (and you many have to add own addtional checks in user exits to avoid screwing up your production system (most archived data cannot be retrieved into the database). My system takes between 1 and 3 minutes to archive 1 material (or finally fail because of an error)

  • How to view archived material master

    Hi,
I need to view the archived master master.
When I checked in forum I found out it can be done through tcode SARA
and object MM_MATNR. But I cant find archived material master in it.
    Please guide me.
    regards
    sathya

    Hi Sathya,
The set of files which you are getting are the archive files. All your archived materials will be contained in those files. If you know the date when the material you are looking for was archived, you can select the archive file which was created on that date. Or as Juergen mentioned, if there is a proper note for the archiving session, it will be easier to find. In case you dont know the archiving date / there is no archiving note, then you may have to run MM72 on the archive files one by one till you get your material.
    Thanks,
    Naveen

  • MATERIAL MASTER DATA ARCHIVING

    Dear Experts,
I have archive material master data from the data base.
As a prerequisite for material master data archive,
Purchase orders for the materials are archived already.
    Invoices documents are archived already
    Material documents are archived already
No material stocks exists for these materials.
Please tell me deletion flag is to be set for the material at client level ?
    Table MARA
    Field LVORM

you can delete and archive a material master at any level.
If you want archive the full material master, then you have to set the deletion indicator in MM06 on top level. if you just want archvie a storage location view, then you set your deletion indicator at this level only, as well in MM06.
In general MM06 is not necessary, as the SARA MM_MATNR write program allows to archive materials without having a deletion flag.

  • Delete MM materials after MM06

    Hi gurus,
I've used MM06 transaction to check for deletion several MM materials. How can I delete them finally? Which is the transaction or program I can use to do this? Have I to archive them?
    Thanks a lot!
    Best regards,
    Iván.

archiving with transaction SARA for object MM_MATNR is the only way to delete material master from a production system.
This is a process that requires customizing, and usually a archiving strategy.
you an only archive materials that do not have quantities in any period of current year and in previous year.
Further you can only archive materials that have to reference in other documents such as bill of material, purchase orders , sales orders, deliveries, source lists, info records ........
if the material has references, then you have to archive those objects first.
the sequence can be obtained in SARA. enter object MM_MATNR then click the network button

  • MM_MATNR archiving for article-site

    Dear Experts,
I have a requirement to archive Materials based on article - site combination. I have discontinued the articles using "Article Discontinuation for Sites" option in "WRF_DIS_SEL" TCODE. The field, "LVORM" is set to 'X' in MARC table for the specified articles. Then i archived the articles by giving the article numbers in SARA->Write.  Is this the right process to do article-site arching or did i miss anything? I dont want the articles to be removed from MARA table but as some stores are closed, want to remove the articles from them.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards,
    Shanth

Did you find and read Archiving of MARC Table Entries (and  543279 - MM_MATNR: Execution for specific organizational levels) before posting ?

  • Archiving or purging iCal

    Hi All,
I have a very large calendar that I would like to archive the events that are over a year old and then purge them. Is there anyway to do this?
BTW - I have already done a back up and then tried to simply delete all events over 365 days old through the preferences>advanced menu. The events did not delete.

A material that is flagged for deletion can still be used for any business activity, hence you can still see it in R/3 and B/W reporting
If the material is archived in R/3 has no direct impact on B/W, B/W has its data and will still be able to run reports with the necassary information.
Even the Logistics information system LIS in R/3 can still run analysis for archived materials.
Yes, before you can archive a material, you have to archive all dependend transactional and master data, otherwise SAP archiving program will not archive your material.
Which archiving objects you have to run prior to material master archiving can be seen in transaction SARA with object MM_MATNR  by clicking the Network Graphis icon

  • Exporting an Pdf file to Excell while retaining the structure

    Hi
I have a bunch of archival inventories on which I ran OCR. When trying to export them as excell documents the structure was lost.
The structure is always the same and I am wondering wether there is a script I could write and run before the export in order to retain the structure.
Or for instance could I create a structures excell document and make the export match it? I did try the auto export with Acrobat Pro X1 and it is a disaster with such documents I am pretty sure it works well in other instances.
As I am looking for specific type of archival materials (inventories, wills, sales..) I need to be able to count them and retrieve the info attached to them in the inventory.
Typically an inventory line would be as follow
Calendro,            Francisco                                June 8,1780               P-400   being the page number  in the actual notarial book

I would suggest that there may be something in JavaScript that would help. However, for an individual file you can use the alt key during selection to select a table. There are also some options to try to recognize a table, but it works better if it is tagged -- not something you get from a scan.
I just did OCR to an image of an excel sheet. I was not able to save as tables in Excel with a message that no table could be found. This is where the tags would come in. I tried adding tags (in AA9 this is under Advanced>Accessibility), but it did not help.
I was able to select each column with the Select Text and Images tool. To select a column, hold down the alt key as you use the cursor for selection. You can copy the column to a spread sheet and repeat it for each column. This is cumbersome, but does the job. It may be that you can you JavaScript to select text in a window and copy it to an Excel file. I am going beyond my skill set, but suggestion what might be possible. In the meantime, you can work with the individual files.
    Good luck.

I dont think , we can do it from other transaction code.

  • What is the best lossless compression for video?

I have a large amount of captured video, which is saved in uncompressed format.
I want to archive this video and I need to figure out what the best compression choice is.
It's video only and I want the archived materials to be compressed as losslessly as possible and as small as possible. Losslessness is more important than size. The original material was captured in FCP from a video camera using Firewire. It is NTCS DV.
Multiple angles of this source material were edited in FCP and rendered to make the final, uncompressed files. Those are what I need to compress and archive.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

There is no such thing as lossless compression.
This is not really true. There are many ways to compress - just google "compression algorithms" and you'll find some. Two basic schemes are either lossless or lossy. Lossless seeks to remove redundant or repetitive information, this is like Run Length Encoding or LZW encoding. Lossy throws away information that is generally "not perceived". JPEG, MPEG, H.264, DV are examples of lossy compression.
YUV "lossless" is 4:2:2 and is considered uncompressed, yet it takes up less space than RGB 4:4:4 encoding. Simply zipping the file compresses it (uncompressed codecs squeeze better, but DV does compress, indicating redundant information) - a TIFF sequence might have run length encoding or LZW. Both are lossless.
To get back to the question, Patrick:Losslessness is more important than size.
H.264 is a fantastic compression - it is, however, FAR from lossless AND it is not directly editable. You'd need to convert it back to an editable format, ensuring even more loss. Not within the parameters of your desired solution...
