ArchLinux Laptop - Xorg freezes system

First off, I am writing this post from the terminal, so I apologize if it looks sloppy.
I have everything working (from the beginner's guide) up to the point where I try to test my Xorg configuration.
X -config /etc/X11/xorg.conf
At this point, my screen goes black, and the entire system freezes. I am unable to even switch virtual terminals.
My /etc/X11/xorg.conf: http://dpaste.com/66061/
My /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old: http://dpaste.com/66062/
I have not yet created a ~/.xinitrc
Can someone assist me?
(The console is still comfortable though.
Edit: My driver option was previously set to intel. Changing to vesa made no difference in the outcome.

If you can't even switch back to a virtual terminal, your hardware might not be detected correctly.  Try getting hal.
pacman -S hal
/etc/rc.d/hal start
You can also put hal in your /etc/rc.conf under "demons" to automatically load on boot.

edit: Under the assumption that you do not already have hal, that is

hi, does the nvidia driver fully support x.org 1.12 yet? I'm on AMD and the latest driver doesn't support it yet.
maybe you downgrade x.org and see if that does change anything. Put this on top of your repos in /etc/pacman.conf and do a "pacman -Suu".
    [xorg111]
    Server = http://catalyst.apocalypsus.net/repo/xorg111/$arch
by now there is a kernel update but other than that I have no idea. Could be a bug in the driver or gnome, too.

  • After installing OSX 10.9.3 laptop will freeze

It seems as if after installing the update for mavericks 10.9.3 I am getting tons of freezing on my laptop.  It happens sporatically and doesn't seem to be a direct result of me doing anyhing in perticular.  The screen will just suddenly spaz out and then the whole laptop will freeze up.

I have the same problem. After installing OSX 10.9.3. my Macbook freezes more than 7 times. The problem came up after switching via Thunderbold to a second screen or after "waking" the macbook up. The last time osx didn't boot anymore. It freezes after the "Apple Logo" came up. (grey screen).
After booting the system with "cmd+V" OSX started again. Now I'm afraid to shut down the system and the macbook runs all day.
I hope someone can help me, here my perticulars:

  • G780 laptop keeps freezing

Hi can anyone help me ? My lenovo G780 laptop keeps freezing its a Pentium CPU B2.10 GHz  with 4.00 gb ram and 64 Bit operating system windows 7, it is only just over a week old so no other programs are installed only windows 7,
When I say freezing I mean the computer freezes and I have to turn it off by holding the on /off button as the keyboard wont work either.

It will freeze almost immediatlly when I turn on the laptop.
Does it occur before Windows begins to load?
If so, software on the hard drive is not responsible.

  • My laptop keeps freezing when i start it up

I posted this on my phone, by the way, since I couldn't even open up Google Chrome without my laptop freezing.

For some apparent reason, my laptop keeps freezing right when I start it up. When I type in my password and my desktop screen comes up, I try to go to control panel to uninstall an adobe software I had downloaded but caused my laptop to lag (I downloaded it from the adobe website, itself). But right when the control panel windows comes up, and I try to move my mouse around a bit (I use an external mouse thing), my laptop freezes right there. I tried to go to McAfee to scan for viruses just in case but it froze when the windows came up as well. I tried doing the ctrl + shift + esc thing and I don't think anything's going wrong but when the window comes up and I move the mouse around a bit, my laptop freezes. Nothing's overheating and dusty or anything. And no matter how many times I tried to force shut my laptop down by holding the power button until it turns off, it still freezes every time. Someone please help me troubleshoot this.

  • Solaris 10 x86 - Xorg freezes

    Hi
I installed Solaris 10 in a Toshiba A10. I'm using it with no problems, but if I left the computer idle (without keyboard/mouse input) for about
20 minutes, Xorg freezes (at window manager, dtlogin greeting, xlock, ... any place)
Accesing the machine (telnet/ssh works fine) and killing Xorg resets to dtlogin greeting screen.
    /var/adm/messages, /var/log/Xorg.0.log, /var/dt/Xerrors give me no clues
Latest patches are installed, many bios options was tried
    Any ideas, please ?
    thanks

I configured full power. X freezes with image on screen (no blank screen). I suspect of usb (kbd and mouse are usb). Disabling legacy keyboard emulation had no effect.

  • Time machine unreliable - freezes System Preferences. Any ideas?

Backing up works properly for  a little while and then seems to stick on Preparing. Won't obey Stop and freezes system preferences. I usually have to do a hard shut down. Used with Iomega which is a replacement for original that failed.

I am unable to put my G5 Power Mac to Sleep. I have attempted to make adjustments through Energy Saver but any changes freezes System Preferences. The spinning wheel begins and I need to Force Quit System Preferences. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

First, Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them.

  • Xorg freeze when my mouse moves from one screen to another :/

    Hello,
I have a computer with two graphics cards nvidia:
    - GeForce 7300 SE/7200 GS on a PCI Express port
    - GeForce FX 5200 sur on a PCI port
    I use 3 screens:
    - 2 on PCI Express card, one on the DVI port and one on the VGA port
    - 1 on the VGA port of the PCI card
I configured my BIOS for my motherboard that has an integrated chip to boot the PCI Express card. I configured my xorg.conf to have a TwinView display mode on my two screens of the PCI Express card and to have the screen on the PCI card separately.
1 week ago my setup worked great, no worries. Since I rebooted my PC, when I slide my mouse from the PCI Express screens to the PCI screen my xorg freeze and I can't switch to a console with ctrl + alt + F1. My PC is still available in SSH but can't kill the Xorg process with a kill -9. I had to make 2 / 3 update between two reboot, I think it must come from there: surely a problem with a kernel update  or nvidia driver update ...
Here I am lost, I do not know what to do to rectify the situation. If someone has an idea ... I'm taker

Since the last update of Firefox I’ve a real problem. While Firefox is running or in use my Laptop total freezes. I was working a Word document and my laptop stops cold. The resource tool stops and nothing works. I have to power off my laptop to get around this. This has occurs numerous time and started after the last update to Firefox. I did install Skpe recently. My configuration is as follows:
    Forfox 10.0.2
    User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:10.0.2) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/10.0.2
    Windows 7 version 6.1 build 7600
    Processor p6100 64-bit
Please help me it is very annoying

uninstalled firefox ....deleted all files still remaining under mozilla firefox directory in program files ... to avoid having to reprogram all my settings, reisntall all addons as well .. I did not remove anything from mozilla firefox that is stored in either appdata or under the windows users directory (if any)
... the as suggested reinstalled the latest version of the firefox browser using the link you provided in the email ..; tested and several issues still remain present and unresolved ....
so please this is urgent or I will have to jump browsers and start using chrome .. because we work 14 hours a day 6 (sometimes 7) days a week, to get ready for the launch of our newest venture and we cannot lose that much days on browser related issues ... so please instead of putting me through week long step process .. of do this .. do that .. can you please actually look into the issue from your end .. I use firefox for so many, many years thta I deserve this kind of support .. thnx Robert

  • Laptop's freezing: how to find out what the problem is?

    Hi all,
First of, I realize that this is not the best forum to ask about hardware
issues, but that's not *exactly* what my question is, please read on!
So, my laptop started freezing at seemingly random times. I understand
that this could be a hardware issue, but I was wondering if there is any
way I can find out something. For instance, I tried to have htop running
constantly so when the laptop froze I checked if any stats where weird,
but there wasn't any problem that I could see.
Any other ideas on how I could possibly get an idea what's wrong?

    When it freezes:
    Do the keyboard lights flash?
Can you SSH into the box?
    Can you ping the box?
Does it unfreeze? Or does it require you shutdown and reboot?
If it unfreezes, was the disk access light on during the freeze?
Is there anything interesting in the logs or journals after your reboot?
    Other things you can try:
Blacklist kernel modules of all non-essential hardware and see if that improves stability.
If it does, turn them back on, one at a time.
Is it temperature related? Check both ambient and core temperatures.
Is it susceptible to mechanical shock?
Have you run a memory test?
Does it only freeze when on batteries?

  • Cannot access secondary GPU - error : [XORG] (EE) systems-logind

    When I try to run
    optirun xterm
    it returns
Cannot access secondary GPU - error : [XORG] (EE) systems-logind: failed to get session: PID 361 does not belong to any known session.
Aborting because fallback start is disabled
I tried it as the troubleshoot section from bumblebee wiki. How can I fix it. I installed kernel 3.18.6 and nvidia driver 346.47

  • My laptop keeps freezing- help!

ok, my laptop keeps freezing. it's a toshiba satellite l305-s5907. It has been run through every type of virus, malware, registry cleaning scan available, and it still happens. it seems to happen after the computer goes to screen saver mode, when trying to exit screen saver mode it freezes. i'm sure i just have some sort of setting out of whack. i've tried changing screen savers to no avail. i've also tried to reinstall the power management program in windows vista (i have the 64 bit). it's like when i try to turn the computer back on, it's in a sleep mode that it won't come out of. i can feel the fan running and the hard drive spinning, but there is no light at all on the screen, and the only way to get it back on is to hold down the power button and shut it off, then turn it back on. please help!

it boots everything loads up on desk top...and it freezes after few seconds
Maybe this is a lame reply too. Try these two experiments and let us know if it happens.
    1. Boot into Safe Mode.
Start your computer in safe mode
    2. Boot into another user account. If necessary, create one.
       Create a user account
PS None of us helping out here work for Toshiba. I don't even have access to one.
