Archlinux Live Image Kernel to old

I have a lot of installations in the last time where i have to use Archboot instead of the official Live ISO, in case of the kernel being just to old and so the installation does not work for example in case of missing network card drivers.
Are there any informations about why there is such an old kernel in the image and why there is no new image since the last may. The Image is nearly a year old.

I second that.
I recalled that there were some "rolling release" installation images but I couldn't find them again some time ago. I'm glad that this thread came up.
So please provide a link (and an explanation) to the images. It's now almost a year since the last update of the official images. This probably causes some confusion.

  • During upgrade I've had ERROR FATAL: kernel too old

I'm using a recompiled kernel 2.6, today I've upgraded my archlinux (like all days), but during it, I've had an error:
    FATAL: kernel too old
Rebooting my computer, now I can't login on my archlinux, infact I've kernel panic (using default kernel). If instead I use my recompiled kernel, I can login, but wifi device is not more known, kde doesn't start more, nvidia drivers doesn't work. So it's impossible to login.
I've the same problem on another computer where I've archlinux with a recompiled kernel 2.6
Anyone has had the same problem or can show me a resolution ?
Please, I don't want reinstall completely Archlinux, infact I've it from 2 years and half on one computer, and from 1 year and half in the other.
    Thanks.

Or prolly wiser would be to install the latest arch kernel...

Unfortunately no - Photos use extensions and the vendor (adobe) will have to implement the extension to allow external edits in PS or PSE
For now you must export the photo, edit and then import - not great but a work arond
And you can continue to use iPhoto until Photos meets your needs - launch it in your applications folder - if you need assistance on this see Why won't my iPhotos open?

  • Why do thumbnail images revert to old image when I delete them and paste a different image?

I press ⌘I to "Get Info" on a file in my finder window and the info window appears. The file is an MKV file for a movie. I dragged an image of a movie poster I got online to the info window so that it would take the place of the default icon (which is just a traffic cone). It worked fine (we'll refer to this image as the "old image"). But now I have changed my mind and would like to use a different image.
So I delete the "old image" (and now the traffic cone is back). Now, I drag a new image to same spot in the info window and now the "old image" comes back. It does this every time.
I even dragged a new image w/ out deleting the "old image" to the same spot in the info window and it didn't work (you can do this in the info window of an iTunes song and it will work).
    Any ideas?

Disconnect all devices from the computer then do the following:
Boot up from your Snow Leopard Install DVD while holding down the "c" key.
Select the language you wish to use, and then choose "Disk Utility" from the menu bar.
Your HD should appear in a panel on the left hand side of the window which opens. Select it and then click on the "repair disk" button in the right hand section of the window.
Once this process has been completed restart your computer and repair permissions directly from Disk Utility.
If Disk Utility is unable to complete the repair, you will need to use a stronger 3rd party utility like DiskWarrior, Techtool PRO (not Deluxe) or Drive Genius.

    Hi,
You can try a package named: JTwain, which is available at http://asprise.com/product/jtwain.
JTwain supports all kinds of digital cameras and scanners. You can use Java to access, contorl digital cameras and scanners, and of course, to acquire images with flexible settings.
The developers' guide is available @ http://asprise.com/product/jtwain/devGuide.php
In the simplest case, one line of Java code can solve your problem.
    Good luck!

  • Photosmart and Photo imaging had on old printer did not come over on new computer.

Hi, I had a HP photosmart poto imaging on my old computer but it did not come over onto my new computer.  I really like this program because when I was copying home pictures for my family it allowed me to choose size of film, size of image and several at one time.  I have tried to find something compatible and so far no luck.  I tried copying it from old to new and that didn't work.  I am hoping that there is a new program with the same abilities.  Print shop and Publisher does not do what I want even though Stables said it would.  These programs allows me to bring it over to Works but when I do that and I want to ajust size of image for several or to reduce size of a larger picture it can become distorted.Any suggestions about getting a new software program.  I think they program originally came over when I had a camera and was transfering the images from it.so help

Hey ,  Welcome to the HP Support Forum.  I see that you're looking to acquire some HP software that you had used previously on an older system. I would like to help.  Do you recall which HP camera or printer model you had that would have came with this particular program?  Also, what version of Windows are you working with?  Please reply with these details and I'll be happy to assist.  Thank you,

  • [SOLVED]possible to make live image of a current running arch system?

Hi Friends!!!. Is it possible to make live iso image of a current running arch system? are there any tools available for that?(I want to do this cause When i install a new arch system, I want to remain my own customizations intact)
    Last edited by Pranavg1890 (2012-10-14 07:29:58)

OK, so after reading the posts, I think that this is not possible.but i think this sould be feature which should be researched upon cause everytime I install arch on a new machine(arch reinstalls on same machine are very rare cause it's a rolling release and has excellent recovery tools) I have to spend a 5-6 hours of time configuring the system.so, i think it should be a feauture that should be worked upon.for eg. like you could chroot into the iso created and then replace the deafult configs by the one on your system or a system scanner which scans the changes on the system with respect  to default arch installation and make the necessary changes to the live image. Thanks friends for your replies. I mark this thread as solved.

  • Chance of retrieving those images off the old Apple TV?

I have a v1 Aple TV that we just replaced with a new Apple TV. The onlty one showed pics that were no longer in my iPhoto library due to an external HD loss. Is there any chance of retrieving those images off the old Apple TV? Can it be connected and searched via the iMac or another way?

You'd need to remove the internal drive and connect it to a Mac to do that.

  • Aspell upgrade leads to - FATAL: kernel too old - SYSTEM BACK UP 8-)

OK, I really hosed it up now 8-(
Who would think that upgrading a spellchecker could cause such a problem, but upgrading aspell has totally crashed my system.
I knew something was fishy when it wanted to change all of the gcclibs, but I went ahead and --force 'd  the upgrade anyway. What a schmuck!
It brings something to mind about too much rope.
Now I can't run any command without it leading to -> FATAL: kernel too old
I can't pacman back to the older package, I can't manually cp the files, WTF?!
Seems like the kernel itself should have been a dependancy.
It looks like I'm rescue CD bound at this point.
Any insight as to what to repair first would be GREATLY appreciated.
The command line session that led to this little disaster is included below.
It's interesting that the programs that were already running will still run (the shell still runs, it just can't launch any new programs, even ls, mv, etc.) I'm even making this post from the browser that was running prior to the debacle, but I can't ls, wow.
    Thanks again for any insight...

    Thanks JGC!
After booting from a rescue CD, I was able to pacman -U to the 2.5 version of glibc and the appropriate kernel-headers and now I'm back in action.
This machine was setup about 2 years ago. At that time I built my own kernel in order to get all of my motherboard features to work.
I've been running arch as my primary desktop workstation for almost 5 years now. I've never really had luck using the pacman -Su option. There always seems to be some inter dependency issue that prevents it from completing.
For instance, after recovering from this current dillema (and backing up my home/ 8-) I thought I'd abandon my custom kernel and launch forward into stock arch.
The pacman -Su led to this isssue:
    :: ttf-bitstream-vera conflicts with xorg. Remove xorg? [Y/n] n
    error: unresolvable package conflicts detected
error: failed to prepare transaction (conflicting dependencies)
    :: ttf-bitstream-vera: conflicts with xorg
Now, I don't have a package installed called ttf-bitstream-vera, but apparently pacman thinks I need it and I can't have it and xorg at the same time.
Some variant of this situation occurs each time I've tried to use the upgrade feature of pacman through the years.
Now I know some people have never reinstalled their systems from sctratch for years by continuously using pacman -Su and just staying up to date. But this just hasn't worked for me. Each time something goes wrong, sometimes leaving me with a system that takes days to get back into working order.
This current issue, while being inconvenient in having to use a rescue CD to recover, wasn't that hard to overcome. I've done pacman -U to older versions numerous times to get out of problems caused by upgrading a specific package. However when a complete system upgrade goes bad, it's very difficult to discover what has to be downgraded to get back to the working system.
But, I'm willing to try again.
Any insight into why the ttf-bitstream-vera package should conflict with xorg would be very much appreciated.
I'm looking into setting pacman.conf to prevent ttf-bitstream-vera from being loaded at all. This is my current workaround approach. Once everything is upgraded perhaps these fonts will load without error.
As usual, things aren't as simple as one might first suspect.
    Thanks again for your help!

I guess this won't work. GRUB apparently creates a mapping in the BIOS here, but as soon as Linux boots, it doesn't care about what the BIOS says and accesses hardware directly. You should do the following instead:
If you have a USB stick that you can completely erase, use the .img file and copy it to the stick with dd.
If not, you can try to place the files on any filesystem (usb, hard drive, everything) like this:
    * Mount the ISO
    * Copy the *.sqfs files and the isomounts file to the root directory on any filesystem (I think ntfs will not work, but fat32, ext2, ext3, ext4 should)
    * Copy the vmlinuz26 and the initcpio_pata.img files from the /boot directory anywhere (can be the same filesystem as above, but doesn't have to be - we'll assume this is accesible from grub by (hd1,2)/boot below)
Now add the following GRUB entry:
    title Arch Live
    kernel (hd1,2)/boot/vmlinuz26 lang=en locale=en_US.UTF-8 archisolabel=YOURLABEL ramdisk_size=75%
    initrd (hd1,2)/boot/initcpio_pata.img
Above, replace YOURLABEL with the label of the filesystem you copied the isomounts and *.sqfs to. If the filesystem doesn't have a label, give it one.
