Archlinux now an option in sun's new virtualbox

If you guys paid attention, Sun included some more preset os configurations and arch is now one of them. how cool, eh? I saw this when I was installing arch to test out kdemod4.

yeah, but first ,i think the sun have a precomplied virtualbox for arch.

Before 4.0 I could right click on an open tab and start a new tab. Now the option to do so is no longer on the right click menu, and I have to click the plus sign if I want to open a new tab. It is kind of bugging the hell out of me. Is there a way to fix it other than uninstalling and reinstalling the old firefox? Because this is a big part of the way I browse.

You can also use ctrl-T or File > New tab (if you have the menubar showing). I can't find an extension that will help you bring back the previous behavior but there probably will be one soon.

  • Cgroup : option or name mismatch, new: 0x0"", old: 0x4 "systemd"

    Hello!
I've installed Archlinux a new ThinkPad X220 and get this message during shutdown/reboot
cgroup : option or name mismatch, new: 0x0"", old: 0x4 "systemd"
What does want Systemd tell me?
I've never seen this on my other systems (ThinkPad t430s and ThinkCenter M).
Somebody mentioned it here and posted also a screenshot:
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1362098
The discussion there doesn't take a good direction and I care only about this message, no problem with a "delay" or something similiar.
    Thank you

Okay, here's a rather long explanation of some of the things that happen during shutdown (simplified at some places, because some details don't help the understanding at all).
systemd activates shutdown.target, which conflicts with all services and mount points, essentially stopping everything that was started.
Activating shutdown.target starts a service that creates the executable /run/initramfs/shutdown, if it doesn't exist yet (more on that further down).
Upon reaching shutdown.target, systemd replaces itself with /usr/lib/systemd/systemd-shutdown.
systemd-shutdown tries kill all remaining processes, unmount all remaining file systems, detach all loop and device-mapper devices. It gives up at some point, since most of the time it will fail for a few mount points.
If /run/systemd/shutdown does not exist, systemd-shutdown proceeds to power off or reboot the machine.
systemd-shutdown changes the root to /run/initramfs, puts the old root to /oldroot and replaces itself with /shutdown.
In our case, /shutdown is a copy of /usr/lib/systemd/systemd-shutdown, which again tries to unmount everything and so on. Most of the time, it succeeds now (this means that the root file system is not only remounted read-only as it was classically done, but unmounted entirely. Any encryption mapping is also closed, which causes the kernel to wipe the encryption key from memory, to prevent a cold boot attack).
/shutdown then proceeds to power off or reboot.
So, how does the hardware watchdog come into play here? By default, systemd sets the watchdog timer to 10 minutes before it replaces itself with systemd-shutdown. Then it closes it, but does not stop it. When systemd-shutdown takes over, it opens the watchdog again. The same happens again when systemd-shutdown switches to /run/initramfs. This has a very useful result: If somehow the execution of the new binary fails, the hardware watchdog will time out after 10 minutes and reboot the computer - so your machine reboots instead of hanging indefinitely. The downside: You get a "watchdog did not stop" warning twice during shutdown.
    As for the other error:
cgroup : option or name mismatch, new: 0x0 "", old: 0x4 "systemd"
This is a message from the kernel that is generated when a cgroup file system is remounted and options are changed that should not be changed. I cannot explain this entirely, but somehow this seems to happen while /oldroot/sys/fs/cgroup/systemd is being unmounted. In any case, it is of no special interest.

  • Cannot add a new email account, and hence icloud account. When i go into Settings - Mail, accounts, calendars,  the option to add a new account cannot be clicked (ghosted). I also have iCloud Settings ghosted (unclickable). Cannot change in itunes also.

Cannot add a new email account, and hence i have no way of creating an iCloud account (very frustrating). I had the same problem with iOS 4.3 but i had no email account to create as i set both up when i bought the iPhone 4. After adding a company email and a gmail account (both wok perfectly) i noticed that the option to create more email accounts had been ghosted (unclickable). This didn't worry me at the time. However, iCloud needs me to create one in here so i can access the cloud which i desperately want the ability to do. When i go into Settings -> Mail, accounts, calendars,  the option to add a new account cannot be clicked (ghosted). I also have iCloud in the iPhone Settings ghosted (unclickable). I have same problem in itunes on Mac OSX. Surely restoring isn't the solution as i restored my iphone when changing from iOS 4.3 -> 5. Please help?

    Go to
    Settings,
    General,
Restrictions, type in your Restriction Password,
    Accounts, tick Allow Changes.
Press the back key a few times till you're back in Settings, you should see iCloud is now highlight able, now go to Mail Contacts and Calenders and add your email account as per norm.
    Hope this helps.

  • My daughter forgot her passcode, phone is disabled.  I attempted restore procedures by placing phone in restore mode and syncing to original computer, but it still says I need the passcode and does not offer option to restore as new.  Verizon can't help.

My daughter forgot her passcode.  Phone is now disabled.  I attempted restore procedures by placing phone in restore mode and connected it to the computer / itunes with which it was originally synced.  itunes recognized phone in restore mode and said I must restore.  I clicked restore, restore and update.  Update began, itunes recognized the device by name and gave error message that stated I must have the passcode to restore.  There was no option to restore as new.  I attempted to restore the iphone 4s on another computer by instaling itunes, but same error messages appeared.  I contacted Verizon and they said they could not help me.  The nearest apple retail store is over 40 miles away.  PLEASE HELP!

    iOS- Understanding passcodes
If you have forgotten your Restrictions code, then follow the instructions
below but DO NOT restore any previous backup. If you do then you will
simply be restoring the old Restrictions code you have forgotten. This
same warning applies if you need to restore a clean system.
A Complete Guide to Restore or Recover Your iDevice (if You Forget Your Passcode)
If you need to restore your device or ff you cannot remember the passcode, then you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and re-sync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
Try restoring the iOS device if backing up and erasing all content and settings doesn't resolve the issue. Using iTunes to restore iOS devices is part of standard isolation troubleshooting. Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition.
Before restoring your iOS device, Apple recommends that you either sync with iTunes to transfer any purchases you have made, or back up new data (data acquired after your last sync). If you have movie rentals on the device, see iTunes Store movie rental usage rights in the United States before restoring.
Follow these steps to restore your device:
         1. Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes before attempting to update.
         2. Connect your device to your computer.
         3. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
         4. Select the Summary tab.
         5. Select the Restore option.
         6. When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the Back Up
option (see in the image below). If you have just backed up the device, it is not
             necessary to create another.
         7. Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you (as long as you've backed up,
you should not have to worry about restoring your iOS device).
         8. When the restore process has completed, the device restarts and displays the Apple
             logo while starting up:
After a restore, the iOS device displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. For updating
to iOS 5 or later, follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. For earlier versions of
iOS, keep your device connected until the "Connect to iTunes" screen goes away or
              you see "iPhone is activated."
         9. The final step is to restore your device from a previous backup.
If you can not restore your device then you will need to go to recovery mode.
Placing your device into recovery mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
         1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the other end
of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
         2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the
red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake
and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake
              and Home buttons.
         3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device.
The device should turn on. Note: If you see the screen pictured below, let the device
charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then
             start with step 2 again.
         4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
         5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
         6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Additional Information:
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

This was EXACTLY what I needed about the purchases I made from my device. However, is there a way to re-download other ones you've made from a computer? Because I realized some of them were not just purchased from my device.

  • TS1299 No option to create a new account

I have used my AOL ID on iTunes since I first signed up - even though I left AOL about six years ago. There wasn't an option to transfer the music associated with the name to another account, so I let it run.
Today I got an iPad mini and upgraded my software. Suddenly my AOL identity is refused, even though it has credit, apps & music associated with it.
I don't get the message pictured above (maybe because I'm in the UK). I get:
'AOL members please contact an AOL Member Service representative. Call 0800 376 5432'.
Although that looks like a legitimate UK number, it doesn't work.
I don't get the button giving me the option to create a new account that will be able to access the assets associated with that ID.
How do I get access to my credit, music and apps?

Reinstalling Mail is rarely necessary or appropriate to solve a problem. It certainly cannot fix anything that could be wrong with the data stored within your home folder, for example, and may even introduce new issues if not done properly.
In particular, system updates often include updates for applications that are part of Mac OS X, such as Mail. As a result of having reinstalled Mail, you may now have a version of that application older than what corresponds to the version of Mac OS X you’re running. Or it could be that you’ve removed the AccountTypes folder from /Library/Mail/ (not to be confused with ~/Library/Mail/).
Since you did this because of some other (unspecified) problems, verify/repair the startup disk first (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, reinstall the Combo Update for the type of computer and the version of Mac OS X you’re using, unless this is the version of Mac OS X that came with the computer:
About the Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update
Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update for PowerPC
Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update for Intel
After installing the Combo Update, the computer may restart twice and the first restart may take several minutes. This is normal.
Take a look at the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:
    Troubleshooting installation and software updates
    Installing software updates
Basically, you should verify/repair the startup disk and back up before installing the update, no applications should be running while installing it, and you may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications (not normal applications) installed.

  • Erased all saved passwords, rebooted, now TB does not ask for new password!

I erased all saved passwords as I've had to change the passwords on my accounts. I then rebooted and now TB does not ask for new password. I have rebooted entire computer and still no change.
    Thanks!

I presume you removed the passwords via Tools > Options > Security > Passwords tab.
Do you have these settings in Account Settings:
Tools > Account Settings > Server Settings for the mail account.
    * select: 'Check for new messages at start up'
    * select: 'check for new messages every eg: 15 minutes'
    * select : 'Automatically download new messages'
make other prefered settings and click on OK to save changes.

  • Whenever I try to sync my 3gs to my laptop itunes only gives me two options: set up as new iphone or restore to a backup.  I already mistakenly restored the phone to a previous back up and the options are still the same.  I am using itunes 10.4.1.10.

Back in March my PC crashed while updating my Iphone 3Gs.  Both froze and were rendered unusable.  The Iphone had to be restored to factory settings in order to be used.  The PC required more work and was delayed by warranty issues.  In the meantime I bought a laptop and installed the newest version of Itunes.  Itunes recognizes my phone but only comes up as "Set up your Iphone"  with two subsequent options: set up as new iphone or restore from back up.  I have mistakenly chosen the option to restore it back to July 2, 2011 when I last synced.  No big deal, but it will not let me go beyond that screen and I cannot transfer my recovered apps or anything else.  Any help on how to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks
