Arcserve r15 and Netware

I have a client that has a Windows 2000 server and Netware 6.5 sp8 server running Arcserve 12 for Windows as their backup software. They need to replace the Windows 2000. I am going to suggest that they run Windows 2008 Foundation Server. The latest version of Arcserve is r15. From what CA tells me they don't support Netware any more. My client still has an active maintanence agreement with CA. So I would just like to upgrade the Arcserve for Windows to r15. CA won't tell me if my current agent will work with r15 for Windows. Has anyone tried this?
This configuration is NetWare agent 11.1 sp3, Arcserve r15 for Windows and Windows Server 2008 Foundation.

According to
http://www.arcserve.com/us/products/...ns-agents.aspx there is
no Client Agent for NetWare (or OES2 Linux though there is one for
Linux) which fits in with what CA have told you.
However in checking Product Documentation for r15 @
https://support.ca.com/irj/portal/an...entationSearch (use
Find Other Product Documentation - CA ARCserve Backup - 15.0 - US
English) I came across a Client Agents Guide (Windows) @
https://support.ca.com/cadocs/0/c013181e.pdf. This is clearly labelled
Client Agents Guide r15 and references a Client Agent for NetWare.
The above would appear to suggest that there is either an agent for
NetWare available for r15 (which CA appear to have told you is not the
case) or an older agent will work.

  • NCF and Netware Remote Manager

    Hi there.
Is there any issues with Novell client Firewall and Netware Remote
    Manager inside my LAN?
When I try to access NRM on ports 8008/8009, for some servers I can
connect but for others I can't.
If I unload NCF, everything comes back to normal with NRM.
I have already created rules to allow these ports, but nothing.
    Any ideas?

Yes, the servers are on the same subnet.
I have the subnet trusted and I have added the IP of the server
especifically as trusted, and it is not working yet.

  • Arcserve backup for netware R11.1 service pack

Any one know the latest sp for r11.1? I can't find any info from CA...also I got this error when the backup job is runing, after I upgrade R9.1 to r11.1, no change, so I just wonder the latest sp will fix it... THX!!!

    1) That latest SP for Arcserve 11.1 is SP3. Unfortunatly, CA has pulled it
from their web site and you need to call them to get it.
    2) The error you got is an SMS error returned by NetWare itself. So it
might not be an Arcserve problem. Try running TSATEST to see if the same
    error occurs.
    3) What NetWare version are you using? What SP level? It might help
updating to the latest SP and/or installing the latest SMS patch.

  • VCB/VADP, ESX 4.1 and NetWare vm snapshot backup issue

    Hi!
If you are running Netware as a guest in VMware ESX 4.1 and are using backup
software that uses the snapshot feature to backup the guests vmdk then you
may run into an issue that causes the snapshot to fail. This was just
documented by VMware on Feb 23 (two days ago) so you may have not seen this

The fix is to install the older v4.0 vmware tools into the NetWare guest.

  • Strange problem with Snow Leopard and Netware

Here is a strange one, but I am posting it here because I think it may have something to do with Apple software in Snow Leopard. I recently upgraded my Aluminum iMac to Snow Leopard, and have seen the following, rather puzzling behavior in the Prosoft Engineering client for Novell Netware. The symptoms are as follows. The server volumes mount OK, and I am able to see the files that are located on the server. In column view, when I select a file, I am able to see a preview of the file. Likewise, I can use Quickview to preview the contents of the file. However, when I try to drag a file from the server to my hard drive (any location), I get a dialog box saying I don't have permission to read that file. If I do a get info on the file, it says I have permission to read and write. For graphics files (such as Tiff, which have Preview as their default viewer), double clicking on the file causes Preview to open, but the file isn't opened. Now, what is really strange, if I use Photoshop CS1 to open that same file, it opens fine, and I am able to save it on the desktop, as usual. Likewise, if it is a Word or Excel file, they can be opened in their application, and saved on my hard drive. Does anyone have any idea as to what is going on, and how I can restore normal behavior?
    Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately I don't know what's going on, but we're having the same issue at work on two Mac Pro machines. We installed Snow and everything's been running as good as before or better - except for this issue. One machine had a clean install and one had an update install, and both are exhibiting behavior identical in every detail to what you describe.
We've contacted Prosoft and they're looking into it; official word on their website is that Snow Leopard is fully supported.

  • Win 7 File issues and Netware.

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this issue. I dont even know where the problem is coming from. Our main server is netware 6.5 and zcm10. With windows 7 clients and a few XP clients. When students save their work (for example Word) and then try to save it again they will get an error saying either the file is open or they dont have the proper rights. Sometimes they will save their file and then try to load it but the file will not be there. And no error occured during the save process. But the file will appear in words recently saved documents. The few XP machines we have are working properly. Could this be a file comit and cashing issue? or something unique to windows 7. I had simular problems with XP but when SP1 came out everything was fixed.
    Thanks

I'd say that that the OES Windows Client support forum @
    http://forums.novell.com/novell-prod...lient-windows/
might be a better place for your question.
However I'll ask whether the Windows 7 and XP machines are running the
respective versions of the Novell Client? If so, which versions are
    installed?
    Latest version for Windows 7 is 2 SP1 (IR5) and for XP it's 4.91 SP5.

  • ZFD401 and Netware 6.5.5?

Anyone had any problems with Zenworks 4.01 remote management after

  • Vmware xp session and netware client under windows7

I am beginning to migrate my netware 4.11 servers to 5.1
I have an xp session installed under vmware.
I have a 5.1 server set up with ip and ipx.
I can connect to the 5.1 server on ip or ipx on an xp sp3 workstation.
I setup a windows 7 workstation and installed the client for windows 7.
I can attach to the server and map drives.
I can run my database software under dosbox and mount the mapped drives.
I would rather run the software under an xp session in vmware as the software is tried and true under xp.
I have created the xp session.
If I login and map drives under windows 7 they don't show up under the xp session.
I installed the client for windows xp (4.91 sp5) ip only and it will not find the tree or server so I can't login from xp.
I tried uninstalling the client from windows 7 and use the client under the xp session. It still doesn't find anything.
How do I attach to the server under the vmware xp session?
Should I have the client loaded under both 7 and the vmware xp session?

    Galtjunk,
    > I am beginning to migrate my netware 4.11 servers to 5.1
    Why not 6.5 or OES11?
I would regard the Xp session as a completely separate machine and I
doubt that the VMWare router will route IPX, so you need to configure
    the Xp machine for IP.
Then try logging in, using the IP address of server in the server field
    and leave tree field blank.

If you download an eval version of BM 3.8, you should find a
documents/craig johnson directory on the OS CD. There is a lite version
of my BMgr 3.x book in there, and the last chapter talks about using
iManager. There is a Windows version of iManager on the companion CD that
you can install on a PC.
As far as the snapins are concerned, I am pretty sure they are buried on
the 3.7 CD's, but in any case they are only going to allow you to work on
filtering. You can simply use FILTCFG on the server to do all your
    filtering work without iManager.

  • Filr 1.1 and Netware 6.5

I don't understand what does "as the directory service" mean in this context. Paragraphs regarding Windows servers and OES2 servers don't have this addendum.

  • Another Windows7 and NetWare CIFS

NetWare 6.5 (all latest patches available), Windows7 (all latest patches available) and "Network security: LAN Manager authentication level" on Windows7 set to "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 security if negotiated".
After mapping a a drive to NetWare:
    net use n: \\server1.domain.edu\data /user:accountname
... choose Start/Computer and under "Network Location" find server1. Double click on server and navigate more than three folders deep (any folders), watching the path url build in the path bar that is located to the left of the right/left navigate arrows at the top of the open "Computer" window.
Now, after selecting the word computer in the url path bar, a highlight color will start to paint in the url path bar and Windows Explorer will go out to lunch for ~ 30 minutes.
This issue also appears when the Novell Client v2_SP1_IR1 is even installed.
Thoughts, because one Windows Explorer goes out to lunch, the only thing that clears the issue is a reboot.
    Thanks...

Set Windows Explorer to use an extra process for folder windows, then
you just have to kill this extra explorer process every time explorer
    hangs.
You can also deactivate Windows Search, this disables all of the fancy
new search features, but you won't get those problems with Netware CIFS
    - except, that the NW CIFS folders disconnect after some time of
inactivitiy for which there seems to be no cure till now.

IBM x3650 with 2 CPU quad core.
But the guest SO wizard don't allow me to install more than
    1 CPU.
    Why is that?

Generally, Netware doesn't benefit from a second CPU. Of course
there are occasions where adding another CPU improves performance,
but Netware is IO bound, not CPU bound.
Under VMware, Netware will definitely perform better with a single CPU.
Netware does not idle the CPU, so when running under VMware, the
VMware tools idle the first CPU. If there are 2 CPUs, the second CPU
will always run at 100 percent utilization.
