What does you guys think of this one? Arctic cooling  Will it cool better then the original cooling?  And does it cool the memory as well?
And also.. To take away the original cooling can I just screw away the screws at the backside on the card? Or what do I have to do?

ok I will do that    but I dont think I buy the arctic cooler because http://www.inwarehouse.se dont have it  .. And I f I order from somewhere else I have ti wait for lika a month, and Idont want to do that

  • Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer + Zalman CNPS7000 = Fit?

I'm thinking about getting an Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer for my Hercules 9800 Pro, but I was wondering if the back piece really fits between the AGP card and the Zalman CNPS7000. Right now my gfx has the special stock cooling on, a.k.a Hercules-style with copper RAM-sinks and a copper heatsink for both the front and the back (back of the card, that is) of the GPU. It's a pretty tight fit to get my SATA cable through them.
    Will it fit?
I'm also wondering if the VGA Silencer fits on my card? It does have non-stock cooling, but it's the same layout if you remove the heatsink and RAMsinks.

How about the Zalman ZMHPOPH80blablabla thing. Does it fit? It'd be nice to have to zalman coolers

  • Arctic Cooler Silencer 1 for Radeon 9800

Anyone know where I can find a Arctic Cooler Silencer 1 for Radeon 9800? Or do you know if the Acceleron s2 will fit in a G4 Sawtooth with this v card?
    Thanks

    Hi-
Just don't let the fan get dirty. The 9800 is a hot card, and too much heat is bad. Since you also have a processor upgrade, you are adding lots of heat. The heat also affects the PSU, because it is all removed through the PSU, and hot air doesn't cool well. Hot PSU's, don't produce good power.
Another cooling option (and a good one) is a PCI slot fan that exhausts to the outside of the tower.
This Thermaltake has really good airflow, and will help cool your entire system.

  • Stock fan problems, Arctic Cooling Silencer Ultra 64 and MSI Neo4 Platinum

    Hi,
A few days ago,  the stock-fan of my Amd-64 CPU(+3000) started to running at 4500-5000 rpm at default speed, when before it had always done at 3000-3300. (official maximum stock amd-fan speed I think). To avoid so high and noisy default speeds, I have activated “Smart CPU Fan Target” in Bios to keep CPU under 50 º C and obviously now speeds are much lower. It helps to diminish the noise and to minimize the fatigue of fan, but obviously CPU run hotter. Even though I think it is in a safe range of temps (40 – 50 ºC). Nevertheless I’m worried about the odd behaviour of stock fan and what could happen in the future...
I wonder what could be wrong, cpu-fan, motherboard regulation cpu-fan system.
NB fan seems to work as always, running at 5000 rpm as ever (speed regulated by fan-mate 2). Not change is noted about.
I should aprecciate any suggestion about what is wrong ?
On the other hand, I have thought to substitute the stock-heatsink+fan by Arctic Cooling Silencer Ultra 64. But I have some doubts about it.
Does it fit in a Neo4 MB ?
I wonder if is possible to control the speed of Arctic Cooling Silencer Ultra 64 (not TC model) by Bios or under Windows via Core-Center as stock-cpu-fan is?
If anyone was so kind to help me.
    Thank you very much,
    M. Lin.

One idea is, try to disconnect your current HSF and see what happens.
I think nothing will happen because there is no alarm for it in this board...
    Be well....
Thanks for the idea, but I think that it would be more prudent to wait for views about, of some owner of cpu-cooler-fan (thermal regulated or not), witch being set to start to turning at very low revolutions (ie:0--500) when computer power on.

I have the "no TC" version of the cooler. Maybe you missunderstood me. The mobo can controll the speed of the hsf. I can watch (with Everest 2.01) that it controls the speed between 2300 an 2000 rpm. The only thing i can't watch and therfore cannot confirm is how low the speed goes under 2000 rpm. Everest shows nothing when the speed goes under 2000 rpm and the core center tool from msi shows only "low", but no digits. Im sure, the fan turns with less than 2000 rpm but i don't no whether with 1500 or with 1900 or such. I can only confirm that the cooler is very silent when it turns with less than 2000 rpm. Then i dont hear the cpu-fan but only the other fans of my system (gpu, northbridge; five 80mm Papst Case fans). The Pabst fans stock rpm ist 2000 but i regulate them down to about 1300-1500.
For the northbridge i remove the stock cooler that turned with 8000 rpm. Now i use a Titan Copper VGA Cooler, TTC-CUVAB/RHS. The stock rpm of this cooler is 4500 rpm. I use the small Zalman Fan Control for this one to regulate it down to 3200 rpm. Measured with a temp probe the temp of the northbridge is now at 45 to 50 degrees C. I think thats a good compromise between heat and noise.
Yes, excuse me, at first I had misunderstood you. I interpreted that your cpu-fan was unable to turn under 2000 revolutions. I means only could be regulated between 2000 and 2300 rpm. But now, I'm quite sure what you means. Your tell me that the speed of the your cpu-fan is adjustable in all its range, from 0 to 2300, only that when it turns at least of 2000, the rpm reader programs are unable to report the speed. ok?

M Lin, why r u so set on this silencer product....here is a madshrimps review on a64 heatsinks. I would go with the xp90 for the same price or less. The link is here:

Thank you for your advice, I already knew it was a poor performer compared to what you refer me, but, firstly, I have a chronic immune illness due which I suffer some disabilities that makes difficult to do manual labours myself . Second  I use my computer for office-surfing-programming purposes. So my power needs are low, -I own a +3000 amd-64-, compared to most of you, I think (I’m not doing over clocking too).
To sum up, I’m going to pick this cooler (fan+heatsink) because is as easy of installing as stock one, enough to cool my cpu... (slightly better than stock one), and very cheap in my country. There is no more reasons to choose it.
A lot of thanks to all.

  • On the Arctic Cooling site what is AIW?

I looked at Arctic Cooling's ATI Silencer 5 (Rev. 2) and it said that it would work on all version of x800 except for AIW. I have never heard of AIW before. Can someone clue me in to what that is so that I am sure to buy the right thing?

  • Will the Arctic Cooling Accelero S2 fit well into the G5 case?

Before I buy Accelero S2 I would like to know if anyone has had success installing one of these in a G5. When I went to a forum to read about them everyone was putting them into PCs so it would be comforting to know if G5 users had success as well.
Also if the product is listed under VGA does that mean it won't work on a DVI graphics card? I heard that DVI is a more advanced version of VGA does that mean that both VGA and DVI would be compatible with the Accelero S2? I am pretty sure that they usually have DVI and VGA both available on most graphics cards so it seems like it would be a non issue.

Do you have room to allow it to fit? It works in Mac Pro which uses PCI Express, and VGA is just any video graphics card.

  • Which thermal compound for a G4:  Arctic Cooling MX-2, MX-3, or MX-4?

Thermal compound was mentioned at the below link:
Linked from that page was another web page, where the MX-2 thermal compound made by Arctic Cooling was mentioned. The below web page on the Arctic Cooling website mentions MX-2, as well as newer thermal compounds, MX-3 and MX-4:
Does anyone know which would be most appropriate for a G4 "Sawtooth"? According to the product descriptions, MX-3 is an upgraded version of MX-2.

    Hi-
I'm using MX-3 now in all my G4s.
    Previously, I used MX-2.
MX-3 is easier to apply, and definitely is more than good enough for any application you may have.
MX-3 outperforms AC Ceramique and requires no curing.
Ceramique receives a "Good" grade, whereas MX-2 (and MX-3 performs better) receives an "Excellent" grade:

  • K9A Platinum + reversed-cool ATI

The primary PCIe slot is really close to the heatsink.  Is there a reversed-cooling ATI card for this mobo ?
    Thanks.

Yep we are. He means this:      ___________
                                              |                 |
             _________                  |                 |
            |             |==========|      HSF     |
            |     NB     | Heat pipes                     |
            |________|==========|___________|
    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX<Reversed cooler
    KCKCKCKCKCKCKCKCKCKCKCKC < GFX card
                           OOOOOOOOO < Heatsink block
    -------                                 < PCI-E x1 slot (#1)
    -------                                 < PCI-E x1 slot (#2)
Hope this makes things a little clearer
Also just so you know. The NB cooks up enough heat without having a reversed cooler near it. It makes my X1950's backside BOIL. And the PCI-E bus on fire.

  • Artic Cooling NV Silencer 5 Rev 3

    Hi,
Just ordered the above fan for my stock 7800GT.
Does anyone know where I can find the fitting instructions?
I seem to remember reading that one of the plugs for the fan has to be cut off and wired to the card but I cant find the post anymore.
Any help would be much appreciated

Instructions come with the fan (I got one myself).
However, I'd rather recommend using a Zalman VF700Cu instead, which is just as quiet, but a bit smaller. The NV silencer does block the second PCIe slot completely (as does the Zalman), however the NV silencer even blocks the third PCIe slot if the card is long enough - short cards do fit, see this pic
You might want to check out this thread about the Zalman (I also posted there as 'boli'):
    http://episteme.arstechnica.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/8300945231/m/911007550831
In particular, look at this post for what I had to do to connect the fan's power cable to the connector on the card (same for the Zalman and NV silencer).
And see what I wrote at
http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/G5/quadG5_cputemperatures.html just below the text "Quad G5 Owner Replies" (as 'Oliver')
As for instructions (Same cooler, different card - should be similar):

  • RADEON 9800 cooling fan

I have a RADEON 9800 Pro Mac Edition 256MB in my QuickSilver 2002 mounted in the AGP slot. The 9800 cooling fan is very loud (grinding sound) after a cold startup then gets quiet after it warms up. I have looked at third party cooling fans for this RADEON and I have found the Zalman v700cu and the Arctic Cooling ATI Silencer 1, Rev. 2 that seem to be compatible. From the images of these two coolers it looks like the two mounting screws that project out the back of the garphic card are very close to the lower memory slot in my QuickSilver. I don't use the PCI slot next to the AGP slot so I know the coolers will be OK there.
My question is, has anyone actually tried one of these coolers in a QuickSilver 2002 and is there enough clearance between the mounting posts on the cooler and the memory card to prevent them from touching?

ATI fans are notoriously bad (read that as cheap). You will know the fan is going bad when you hear a loud whine or grinding noise after a cold startup or during heavy use. The fan went bad on my 9800 Pro 256 after just 5 months. I had to send the card to ATI for repair - nearly 3 weeks to get the card back. The replacement ATI fan started making noise after another 90 days. I can't see doing this on a regular schedule for the three year warranty term so I replaced the stock fan with an Arctic Cooling ATI Silencer 1, Rev. 2. It's easy to install. So quiet that I can't hear it run and my computer case and power supply fans run slower and with less noise than ever before due to the Arctic fan venting warm air out of the computer.
The Arctic Cooling ATI Silencer 1, Rev. 2 installed perfectly with no modifications and minimal effort. It has a 6 year warranty. I consider this modification the best thing you can do to protect the $250 (or whatever you pay) investment you make with the RADEON card. It's better than waiting for the stock fan to fail and cause your 9800 to melt down. Technically installing the Arctic fan voids the ATI warranty but I believe I could reinstall the old stock fan if the card needs other warranty repairs without anyone noticing the switch was ever made.
So your answers are yes and yes although I never had the monitor problem you describe. The ATI card is a good choice - keep it then download and install the latest drivers from the ATI/AMD web site and do yourself a favor and buy an Arctic Cooling ATI Silencer model for your card. Install it when you start to hear the stock fan going bad. You will be glad you did.
PS - many thanks to FangSuede for his excellent advice given to me.

  • X800XT vs. GeForce 6800

    Chris?
    BD?
Hope you guys are well. Chris, I know we've explored these issues before. Forgive the repetition. Still working on a G5 SP 1.8 for a friend in need. He'll be using an older version of FC. The app will work fine, but I'd like to upgrade his 9600 Radeon to either an Applemacanix flashed X800XT, or one of those 6800's we talked about. The 6800, (Nvidia A220 GeForce 6800 603-7710), is used of course, (with 30 day return), from reputable Ebayer. And it's also cheaper. Waddyatink? Which way?
    Best
    Mike

The flashed X800XT (FireGL) is a good card.
Running at Apple OEM X800XT clocks, it is slower than with the FireGL clock. The card, though, running faster (at FireGL clock speeds and faster) heats things up fast.  I have one OC'd to 550 MHz, but also have a Arctic Cooling ATI Silencer on it.
It's a bit of a struggle to cool the FireGL with it's stock cooler, even at OEM ROM settings.
The flashed X800 is a single slot card, good for PCI card placement, has a dual link DVI port and provides very strong OpenGL support for OS X.
Weak coolers follow previous Radeon cards.....
    FC? Motion?
I'd get the Geforce 6800 Ultra:
