Arctic Silver not working???

So...after I had to rip off AMD's thermal superglue to check what was written on my CPU (this was before I actually got the thing working. Re:here) I removed the AMD stuff and had to put some cheap paste I had lying around on it... got temps of 38*C idle with CnQ on, so CPU was at 1Ghz and full load at 2.4Ghz peaked at 59*C, which was with stock HSF.
Bought myself some arcticlean and arctic silver 5, did everything per their instructions and got 15*C Idle and 34*C under load on the first test (3Dmark, games, CPU Burn etc) then I left computer off all day, just came back now and the temps are nearly back to before - 38*C idle, 56*C load! - ???
Is this supposed to happen or what?

15*C Idle and 34*C under load are likely as not bogus readings unless you left your computer out in the artic chill. Typical temps for the A64 series chips are in the 40c to 60c region. Afterall you do have a lot of heat with 300 million transistors to disapate. LOL
The first set of temps are within reason and are pretty darn normal especially if you have a small cramped case with air cooling. Nothing to worry about there. Artic Silver 5 if applied correctly as per their instructions can lower the temps a couple degrees Celcious. However it is not a huge difference over what AMD uses.
Clawhammers like you have are one of the Hotter A64 chips. The newer Socket 939 based 90NM chips are somewhat cooler by as many as 10 degrees Celcious but can also under extreme load reach close to what a Clawhammer normally sits at.
So yes that 15C and 38C at full load are pretty much bogus unless of course you use alternative cooling and even then darn good cooling at that.

    Solutions Tried So far:

    Restarting Iphone
    Reset All Settings
    Complete Iphone Erase

No it shows "Volume" not "Headphones" when I try playing music via external speakers & trying to  adjust volume.
    I have noticed one thing.
When i tried pushing/rubbing (Gently Not too Hard) bottom right front side of my Iphone ( exactly right side to Home Button) my speaker started working again for some time.
when it stoped again i applied same method.
Is this some kind of loose connection ?????

  • For those who have switched to arctic silver w/o changing heatsinks. How much did your temps change?

i just went from stock -> zalman + zalman goop (got 10c drops on load) --> zalman + arctic silver 5 (got 5c less than stock, or 5c more than zalman goop) in an attempt to cure my temp problems. ill see how it is tomorrow :D goodnight, i may go back to zalmy goop ~  im currently at 65 under load. slowly going up to 67 where zalmy went from 60-slowly to 63.
edit, these are mbm5 readings by the way.
And yes, i have read the thread about thermal paste. Yes, i know what a bb is.
    zalmy + either goop + 990mhz = 43c though. all time low fer me!~
    every time i see tiresmokes mbm5 temps. . . . !!! i want =P

  • WSUS not working completely, no MMC connect, all web services are not working

    Hello all,
I have a problem not sure what causing it or what is the source of it as I am not into WSUS that much...
    THe status is as follows:
I have 1 server 2008 sp2 RTM x64, I had WSUS 3.0 SP2 on it since a while, it was working fine until a week ago, when I started receiving the below messages in the event viewer
I have spent too much time trying to trace or troubleshoot this issue, but all I got was to check the registry and check permissions on the temp folder and other folders, I have done complete removal with the database for the old WSUS and reinstalled it
again but I got the same problem
Nothing strange and no problems happened on the server perior to this issue, it just happened...
    Any help will be appreciated
    Regards

So, in reality, this issue has nothing at all to do with "it was working; now it is not", because you've destroyed all of the evidence that would exist in a "was working; now is not" scenario. What we really have here is a NEW installation that has failed.
So, from the perspective of a NEW installation that is not working...
Are there any other roles, features, services, or applications installed on this server?
Did you install the Web Server Role exactly as described in the documentation?
Did you install the WSUS Role exactly as described in the documentation?
Were there any other roles, features, services, or applications installed onto this server
after your original (working) installation of WSUS?

Oh, well, I have red and followed the documentation exactly step-by-step on the technet library, and I can guarantee you nothing went wrong because this is not my first installation for it
When I told you about the old damaged installation and the new installation which is also failed and showed me the same symptoms as the old one, I was sure that nothing wrong with the WSUS itself, but rather it is something wrong with the environment
Answering to your above questions, the answer for all is that: that server is only used for WSUS, nothing more
Anyway, I have managed to restore the service thanks to your previous reply where you point to the CONFIG folder inside the NET framework folder, I checked the files in there, some were changed to the date I think has stopped the service, so I repaired the
    NET framework 2, and restarted
It is working fine now and syncing with the update server

    1. the browser button not working in browser when I run the project from Netbeans under "run in browser" mode. however under "standard execution" mode, everything is fine.
    2. can not run the jar file in the project's dist directory directly. in other word, I can not run the jar file outside of Netbeans.
    I appreciate any help. thanks.

thanks for your reply but I need more specific operation.
maybe I am not very clear about the problem one. I mean when I run the code in standard mode, if I click the browse button, a window will pop out and I can choose a video file from my local harddisk. but if I run it in "web start execution" mode and "run in browser" mode. the browse button make no response when I click it.

  • My web cam is not working no video

    Hi ,
My web cam on my hp laptop G72_257CL is not working. Please help me.

just pry (pull) up the frame around the top and sides. You do not need to pry out the bottom of the frame. Use your
fingernails under the inside edge of the frame, they have some double sided tape, so it might be a little tough to pry. Pry it
slowly so the tape can separate on its own. Don't force it quickly or you might damage it. Make sure you're not prying the
silver metal frame of the lcd screen, only the black plastic frame. There are some plastic hooks that will make a snap
sound when you pry the frame out, it'll take some force, so don't be afraid if you hear the snap sounds, it should be able
to snap back together if you did it correctly, otherwise you might have to use some tape to tape the frame back,
Once you've pryed out the top of the frame and have access to the webcam module, you
should see the cable going into it from the bottom, push the cable into the webcam, then see if the problem is solved,
the cable most likely just came loose. If that solved the problem, I suggest using something you can remove, like hot
glue to hold it together, just in case the webcam really needs to be replaced, you can melt the glue off and swap it out.
webcam itself somehow got damaged?, which is very unlikely
    THANKS
    REGARDS: PROFESSORTOM

PLEASE DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK

  • IPhone 3g Applications not working.

Hi there, my name is Eden
I just recently bought my iPhone 3g and recieved it yesterday, luckily on my birthday=P
Anyways, my iPhone was working perfectly with no problems and no errors, untill now. I downloaded an Application, iLightr and while it was loading to be downloaded, i deleted some other applications i Did not want no more. When the iLightr application was done, those applications i delete and another application that i never seen popped back up. I deleted them again including the application i never seen.
Anyway, this application was named something with an F i dont remember perfectly.
After deleting those applications, I tried to work my AIM Application. It did not work. When i clicked it, screen goes white with stripe as if its about to load AIM and then it goes back to the main page of the iPhone were i have my applications, SMS AIM Facebook Myspace and games.
All my applications now do this, and it is bugging me out.
Can someone help me in an easy way because I am still a child and do not understand a lot of words that are complicated. Thanks!

Okay, my dad's phone had (or has) the same problem so I've spent many many hours with and without a mac genius trying to find a solution, so I've since formed a number of vague ideas about why the problem occurs:
The problems started shortly after I had authorized his computer to play my Texas Hold Em app, and he subsequently tried to upload it to his phone (let me know if any of you tried something similar). I don't know if this was to blame at all, but I'm pretty sure the issue has to do with authorization: for some reason the account used to download apps through iTunes and the account used to download apps on the iPhone were seen as two different accounts, so upon restarting or resyncing there was a conflict between accounts that made the iPhone think it wasn't authorized to open the apps that were uploaded to the phone (which is why the primary apps will still work - no downloading or syncing involved). Some of the solutions I found to the problem also reinforce this:
The first time I was able to fix it was by selecting the phone in iTunes and toggling some of the info (calendars, email, contacts etc) that was supposed to sync to the phone. First, they had been auto-deselected for some reason, so when I told iTunes that it was supposed to sync that info (by clicking the checkbox) it came up with a warning that said something like "are you sure because this iPhone is linked to a different account" and then it might have mentioned erasing or something but either way it was mistaken because the phone had only ever been synced with that computer (it was in fact a brand new 3g that the mac genius had just given us over the course of troubleshooting) - so I said sure erase it or whatever and everything worked fine, 3rd party apps and all.
That fixed it for a while, but when it happened again I did EVERYTHING. I restored the phone to factory settings, reinstalled the entire OS on the MacBook (meaning all apps deleted, etc, etc), and DID NOT restore the phone from a backup. Before syncing I also deauthorized his computer from his account AND my account, then reauthorized him for his account only. I had "sync applications" selected in iTunes, but I told it to never upload apps from the phone to iTunes. That all fixed it for the longest period yet, but the problem recurred once again yesterday, and then it froze on the silver boot-up screen (any of you having this prob too?).
This time we fixed it by putting the phone into recovery mode (hold down the lock and home buttons together and keep holding them down past the restart until you see the plug-into-itunes logo) while it was plugged into itunes, deleting all applications from iTunes, and setting the phone up as new (do not restore from a backup). Now it's working again.
So I say it's either a recurring bug to the iPhone, or there is some residual bad info on my dad's account on the apple servers that somehow keeps making it to the iPhone or iTunes thus causing the conflict again. I know it doesn't make sense when I say it, but It LOOKS like the iPhone and iTunes think they're actually two different accounts so the iPhone eventually thinks it's not allowed to play the apps it downloads. Either way, I'm turning off app syncing on the phone for now and just managing them purely from the phone itself.
    Hope this helped ANYBODY .

  • My ipad has a black screen and the power button is not working. Help!

This is the second time my ipad screen has gone black. The power button is not working. I reset the ipad about two weeks ago  when this happened. However, this time I am not able to get itunes to recognize the device. It keeps asking to respond from the ipad (obviously with a black screen that isn't going to happen). Im not sure what to try next...thoughts?

Have you tried to give it a reset?
    Reset
Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot. No data will be lost.

  • My on and off button on ipod is not working..

Can I fix a power button that is no longer working??

    Hi deenabro,
First try resetting your iPod by holding down the sleep and the home button at the same time until the silver apple appears (ignore the red slider bar if it appears). If that does not work, you may need a visit to the Genius bar.....
    Cheers,

    059D160: N8-00 RM-596 Country Variant Hongkong HK Silver White_COLOR
So you have a varient ment for the Hong Kong market,
Might be wrong but I think these may have the FM software disabled,
Likely whoever sold you yours flashed the local software to the device, but left the product code unchanged,
When you updated to anna, your phone picked up the Chinese variant firmware and the FM was again disabled
    Your options
    1) Take it to a nokia care point and ask them to flash woth the local firmware and change your product code, there may be a charge for this and they may refuse to do it
    2) go back to the retailer you bought it from and see what he can do
Any other methods you may spot on the web about fixing this issue with hong kong variant phones cannot be discussed here as there use voids the phones warenty

  • I updated my Ipad 2 last night, and now my Kobo application is not working. Any ideas?

So, last night, updated my Ipad 2, it took ages, but went smoothly. Two things I noticed right away--my Kobo application is not working (opens, but bookmarked screen is blank), and when I went to the App store to see if I had missed a Kobo update perhaps, the APP update screen was frozen and wouldn't allow me to select ANY updates.  Anyone have some advice?

Try giving it a reset. Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot and see if that helps.

  • Upgraded to ios 6 Apple Tv not working! How do I Fix this?

The apple tv is connected to a Sony Bravia using a HDMI lead.
So the upgrading was complete (I think) and it came up with a picture of a cable and an itunes store icon.(What Does this Mean?)Now(about 4hrs later) the apple tv has a white flashing light,  when I change from having the tv on to the HDMI where the apple tv is connected it showed up at first with the picture of the cable and the itunes icon but now nothing shows up. I have tried unplugging the apple tv from the power and HDMI. The Airplay (aka playing things through apple tv) feature is usually avalible automatically when a video is played our ipad, ipod and MacBook but this is not working. The apple tv doesn't show up in the itunes devices on MacBook or Ipad. It would really be appreciated if this was answered. The apple tv doesn't respond to the silver remote either.
P.S. I am not 100% sure if it is Apple TV 2 or Apple TV 3

OK so I went to the Apple Store and they said my cable was a third party cable. We tried an apple cable and it worked! So Apple changed the pin out configuration on the OS 5.1 upgrade so only Apple cables will work! So I had to shell out another $40.00 to get that cable!

  • My iPad air won't charge at all and I don't know if it's the charger or port help!i have had a new port put in before and it worked fine after but it's not working now! I have spent way to much trying to fix this thing one problem after another?

My iPad air won't change at all, and I don't know if it's the port or charger cable it is charging normally but it just won't charge. I have had a new port put in before after a charger getting stuck in there but it worked fine after and now it's not working at all! I don't know if maybe it's the charger getting old but I have spent far too much money on this iPad then I should have as it's one problem after another witch is causing me lots of stress.

Try giving your iPad a reset. Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot and try again.
How are you charging it? its's best charged plugged into the wall  not via USB. So if you're trying via USB, try using the supplied power block plugged into the wall.

  • Mac os 10.4.10 software update problem -- my mac does not work anymore :(

    hello!
i have a powerbook G4- PPC. just today, i did a software update of my OS to 10.4.10 (it was the available update version according to the automatic uptae) and during the final stage of the installation, it says "a problem was encountered...installation package is moved to trash"
when i browsed my mac, my apps does not work anymore!!! they just bounce from the dock when i clicked it but it won't open any window. i emptied the trash and restarted my mac but sadly, it just boot but won't continue to the log in part, only in the silver window with the apple logo and mac os x tiger... and the mouse just turns into the color wheel. i waited for 30 mins and nothing happened.
i don't have a startup disc because the mac is a gift and it was long time ago. is ther a software i can use to fix or revert the changes of the unsuccessful OS update? why is there always a problem when i do OS update? isn't apple software stable?
My mac problems' driving me crazy!!!

There are no guarantees, but following this procedure when installing updates and upgrades on your Mac will go a long way towards avoiding unpleasant after effects and ‘post-update stress disorder’.
It is also worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
    1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
    2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
    3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site. If your car runs on gasoline you would not want to fill the tank with diesel, so don’t try to install the PPC updater on an Intel Mac!
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.4.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.4.9 to 10.4.10. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
    Now proceed as follows:
    4. Close all applications.
    5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
    6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
    7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
    8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious!
    9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them 10.4.10. compliant. Give them a weeks or two while you regularly check their websites for updates. This applies particularly to plug-ins for Safari 3.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.

  • IPOD Color- Corrupted- restored- black/white menu+not working (WinXP)

I got an iPOD Color Display last year, few days ago, it started going nuts. Windows were not recognizing etc.
After the restart-reboot-restore it has a Black/White GUI and still windows can not recognize it. Windows say that it is a generic USB hard drivem iTunes say that it needs to be restored (and after every restoration, it needs to be restored again, and it is not working anymore, even if it is alive).
iPOD's screen shows the exclamation mark over an envelope.
    HELP!!!
Is there any advance utility, which for example, could make iPOD an image of a filesystem, in order to everything be overwritten (factory settings)

    Hello,
If a sad iPod icon or an exclamation point and folder icon appears on your iPod’s screen, or with sounds of clicking or HD whirring, it is usually the sign of a hard drive problem and you have the power to do something about it now. Your silver bullet of resolving your iPod issue – is to restore your iPod to factory settings.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
If you're having trouble, try these steps at different levels one at a time until the issue is resolved. These steps will often whip your iPod back into shape.
Make sure you do all the following “TRYs”
    A. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    B. Try another FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    C. Try another FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    D. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    E. Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
For old and other versions of iPod updater for window you can get here
    http://www.ipodwizard.net/showthread.php?t=7369
    F. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    G. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
If none of these steps address the issue, you may need to go to Intermediate level listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the lists to see if that is what keeping iPod from appearing on your computer in order for doing the Restore.
    Intermediate Level
    A. Try to connect your iPod with another computer with the iPod updater pre-installed.
    B. Still can’t see your iPod, put it in Disk Mode and connect with a computer, instead of doing a Restore on iPod Updater. Go and format the iPod instead.
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool”.

    C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iTunes 7.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

    Advance Level
    A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
    B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.
Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ at your own risk
    http://www.ipodresq.com/index.php
Just in case that you are at the following situation
    Your iPod warranty is expired
You don’t want to pay any service charges
You are prepared to buy a new one
You can’t accept the re-sell value of your broken iPod
Rather than leave your iPod as paper-weight or throw it away.
You can try the following, but again, only do it as your last resort and at your own risk.
Warning !!!! – It may or may not manage to solve your problem, and with a risk that you may further damage your iPod, which end up as an expensive paper weight or you need to pay more higher repairing cost. Therefore, please re-consider again whether you want to try the next level
    Last Resort Level
    1. . Disconnecting the Hard Drive and battery inside the iPod – Warning !! Your iPod warranty will be waived once you open the iPod.
In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery and HDD replacement (with Quicktimes)
    http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/index.cfm?page=Video/directory.html
2.Press the reset button on the Hard Drive inside the iPod – Suggestion from Kill8joy
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2438774#2438774
Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.

I am not suggesting that you should follow as well, but just read them as your reference. You are the person to make the call.
Finally, I read a fair comments from dwb, regarding of slapping the back of the iPod multiple times
Quote “This has been discussed numerous times as a 'fix'. It does work, at least for a while. In fact I remember using the same basic trick to revive Seagate and Quantam drives back in the mid to late 1980's. Why these tiny hard drives go bad I don't know - could be the actuator gets stuck in place or misaligned. Could be the platter gets stuck or the motor gets stuck. 'Stiction' was a problem for drives back in the 80's. Unfortunately the fix can cause damage to the platter so we temporarily fix one problem by creating another. But I know of two instances where a little slap onto the table revived the iPods and they are still worked a year or more later.”UnQuote
