ARD 3.6.1 broken in Mac OS X 10.7.5

I upgraded my client from 10.7.4 to 10.7.5.
ARD 3.6.1 can't connect anymore to a Mac OS X server 10.6.8.
Someone an idea how I an fix that?

Try removing the 10.6.8 machine from your All Computers list. Quit/Relaunch the app, and re-add the machine.
Then see if you can connect.

Time detection is broken in Mac OS 10.9.1. I'm living in Minsk (GMT +3). Time zone detects correctly, updating time from servers is turned on. But time is always leads +3 hours. How to fix it? Maybe time settings conflics with Windows 7?

    Set" TimeZone Support" to OFF.

  • Firefox is simply broken on mac os 10.4.11

I made what seems like the mistake of upgrading to firefox 3.6.8 and suddenly nothing worked, so I downgraded to 3.5.11 and found that everything that didn't work about 3.6.8 still didn't work.
I've been using firefox for years, but I'm getting frustrated.
Running OSX 10.4.11 on a G4 PPC powerbook
    What happens:
Cannot navigate to a web page by typing in the address in the nav bar and hitting enter.
    Preference menu appears blank
When trying to find updates for plugins, I'm told download is disabled, "click button to enable" I click the button, and get the same exact message again.
    Links do not work
Google search function does not work
I tried downloading adobe flash 10.1 for mac using a different browser, and it didn't improve anything.

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Cmd+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
(You also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
    Firefox > Preferences > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now")
    (2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:
Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
If you open about:crashes, you should get links to online crash reports. You could post some of the crash IDs for review by volunteers here.
Given the timing, another issue might be some ads or media in the page. There are some add-ons to block such things...

  • Web based admin pages broken on Mac?

    Have new WRT54GL v 1.1, 4.30.7 firmware.
I have noticed intermittent problems with the web-based admin pages, using both Firefox and Safari on the Mac. Odd bit is these don't happen all the time and I'm not sure yet what triggers the problems.
Most commonly seen in Firefox: On the page for basic wireless settings, drop-down menu for selecting the channel will not work. It will display the currently selected channel, but clicking on the menu will either not drop down at all, or it will drop down briefly with no channel selections visible.
In Safari: Many of the drop-down titles and item will shows the intended text prefixed with the word "Capture" or bracketed in "Capture(itemName)." I've seen a few variations on this. Also, many item titles and text are simply missing from many of the pages when viewed in Safari.
    Questions (some rhetorical, some practical):
    * Anybody else seen these or similar problems?
    * Known solutions/work-arounds?
    * Does this happen with any browsers on the PC?
    * Is there something fundamentally wrong with how WRT54GL's scripting builds these user interface items - or is the problem more related to how the Mac browser handles the rendering?
    -Lee

I don't have any problems with this firmware on my WRT54Gv2 using MacOS or Windows and any browser I have.
Those problems are usually either cache problems, i.e. there are some incomplete files in the browser cache.
Could be disabled JavaScript. (It is worth to check the JavaScript error log to see if there is problem)
Could be a hardware/memory problem. Sometimes this happens after a firmware upgrade which did not correctly go through. A re-flash of the same firmware could help then.
The Safari texts you see are normal. There JavaScript works a little different. I have the same on mine. (but I must admit I cannot tell you if I can configure the router with Safari as I have never tried it so far. I usually use only Firefox.)
You can try a PC and see if it is the same there. I guess it is.
Anyway, you are not alone with this problem. I would try to clear the cache, if that makes no difference, download the 4.30.7 firmware and re-flash the router. If that still makes no difference return it to the store if you can and get a replacement. You could ask them to hook it up there to a computer to see if it is any better there...

  • Quicktime Player (10.0) broken after Mac OS 10.6.6. update

Quicktime Player, version 10, no longer works after upgrade. App icon is no longer appearing properly, movies in iPhoto will not open.
    Apps were never moved.
I have a Quicktime pro license.
Will not allow 7.6.9 install because of Quicktime Player X is installed. Very confusuing as there is not download for Quicktime Player X to reinstall.
I have had this happen to both my Mac Mini and my Mac Pro.

Issue resolved with a download of the 10.6.6 Combined Update and install. One thing I just remembered that could be the issue. I have another partition on both macs that have 10.6.x server that I use for training.
This could have been a factor.
Now, when I open a movie file in iMovie, QuickTime Player opens. If I "View In Finder" it shows the app on the OS X Server partition. Not fully resolved if this is the case, but currently functional in the current config of these two Macs.

  • 10.4.11 update has broken my mac mini core duo

I got a rather odd error near the end of my update to .11, and went ahead and downloaded the standalone installer. I ran it, and it appeared to work properly. I later rebooted to complete, and the machine never restarted.
I did a 'press power to shut off' followed by power to start.
    * stuck at gray apple screen with spinning progress wheel.
I forced off again and reset PRAM (cmdopt+PR).
    * chimed, restarted, stuck at gray apple with spinning progress wheel.
Attempted safe start (shift after chime till spinning wheel)
    * stuck at gray apple with spinning progress wheel.
    Attempted single user (cmd+S)
    * stops at:
"CSRHIDTransitionDriver::probe booting in single user .. do not match"
    Attempted verbose (cmd+v)
    * stops at:
    "IOBluetoothHCIController::start Idle Timer Stopped"
    Attempted open firmware (cmdopt+of):
    * stuck at gray apple with spinning progress wheel.
I've attempted to use the OSX Tiger DVD pressing C at start:
    * disk audibly whirs, but never progresses beyond gray apple with spinning progress wheel.
Same for restart pressing D with disk in.
I do not have access to another mac, and do not have any way to install OSX onto an external drive to try to boot my mac.
Edit to add: Filevault is enabled, did not run "repair permissions"
(have to comment: if its so important, why does the installer not force it to happen?)
Do I have any other options to try or do I own a $500 paperweight?
    edits to add additional info

I am on my way to a possible cure. I located in the attic the original (still in their sealed box) Official Mac Mini Install Disks after calling Apple SuUpport. (I had been trying to resurrect using an OSX Tiger Black box install dvd set). The machine just would not boot from that black Tiger OSX DVD...However:
The mac support rep (Dan - great job) had me use that original disk, and said: hold the C key - from the chime all the way until a dialog box came up to do an archive and install. It took a good 4 or 5 minutes of holding.
But - the end result was that I am now doing a complete archive and install, so I get to keep everything (many gigs of music) and reinstall third party stuff. Suitable punishment I suppose for being a Mac snob and not backing up for eons compared to backing my PC up with an automated process weekly.
For others: Dan said that the install must have encountered a glitch and was left in an incomplete state with some critical bit of software malformed. He could not explain that it would not boot to open firmware, or what the glitch might have been.
I will post again once i have a working system and once again attempt to get current in version and security updates...after a complete backup to a nice new external drive
    Oh well, live and learn.

  • Mac OSX 10.8 has broken my mac pro 2010

I downloaded and installed 10.8 on to my Mac Pro desktop 5.1 (2010) and now cannot boot the machine.
    Cntrol R doesn't work
    Safe mode doesn't work
    Option doesn't work
This Mountain Lion has destroyed my disk drive and now I have a useless metal box.
ML works fine on my macbook air - it came installed - but this software cannot AND MUST NOT be used as an upgrade - unless you have apple care agreement and can wait for Amsys to get round to giving you a call
Has anyone else had such a total failure?
Shouldn't there be a warning on this mac version of windows vista?

    hk richard wrote:
By process of elimination ML was the cause. System works fine with 10.6.8. I have perfectly good original HD (2010) and backup drives with time machine for this machine and household macbooks (wife and daughter). I download Lion, run install - and hey presto - Grey screen.
So we have tried start - option. No use but getting better. Can actually get to device select, I can insert original disk and select it - but it will not load. I have tried the recovery drive - that goes girectly to grey
We have tried control R and we can actually get the apple logo for a minute - before we go to grey
shift for safe mode - similar result
reset pram - no luck there
Given machine worked beautifully before this update - am pretty sure ML IS the cause. Of course begs the question - why did I upgrade?! I think to mirror the macbooks where ML works as the original software.
I believe I might not be alone with upgrade problems - but perhaps not quite so severe
Make an appointment with your local Genius Bar at your local Apple Store. Sounds like Hardware Issues. As I stated, this is not happening to 99.9% of usures, so you have a problem with your individual Mac by the sounds of it.
    Good Luck

  • Has today's Safari Security Update 2015-02 broken my Mac?

Since installing the update at lunchtime, my Mac has become almost unusable.  Safari is freezing constantly, meaning I can use it for barely a minute at a time.  I am experiencing severe keyboard input problems, with deletions, spaces and letters appearing randomly.  Mail is behaving very erratically.  When I tried to download the iMovie update, the login claimed my password was wrong: STATUS-CODE-ERROR.  The fan is working overtime on my machine, suggesting that the problem is using up a huge amount of CPU.
I have only been able to post this by typing it up in Text Edit and then copy and pasting it into this field during a small window of Safari operability.
    I am running OS10.10.2 on a 2011 MacBook Pro.
Anyone else suffering?  This is catastrophic and Apple has to fix it ASAP.

Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the box marked Safari.

  • Set Report Orientation VI Broken on Mac

I am making a cross platform VI in Labview 7.0. It uses the Set Report Orientation.vi to make the page landscape. The VI works fine on the PC. On the Mac there is a corresponding Set Report Orientation.vi, that does nothing, however the VI comes up with errors (Wire has loose ends) When I try to edit the block diagram to fix it, it asks for a password. Where will I find this password?

    Hi Kirk,
This is a known issue with the Set Report Orientation.vi on the Mac. According to notes written by R&D, the VI was not supposed to be included on the palette. The reasons were not indicated, but I have contacted the engineer regarding this issue and will try to get more information for you.
Thanks again for contacting National Instruments and have a great day!

  • AAM Broken on MAC OSX

I'm having a ton of issues with the AAM on my macbook pro.
Last week all of a sudden when I tried to open Photoshop, PS shut down mid startup and the AAM icon popped up on my mac toolbar and started bouncing, it spawned 2 more of itself, bouncing like a bunch of 12 year olds at a biirthday bouncey castle but did nothing. I had to force quit out of all of them. Only some of my Adobe apps would work after this but things like Illustrator and Photoshop would do this bouncy AAM do nothing problem
So I went to remove all Adobe from my computer as I couldn't get into the AAM and found that all of the Uninstalls woudl either open and crash or would pop up saying their alis was missing. Great so I can't uninstall properly. So I ran the Adobe Cleaner Tool, which apparently did nothign as all the applications were still on my machine and in the Applications folder. So I manually removed them all.
I managed to download the standalone AAM from a different page on the Adobe site other than creative.cloud.com and then managed to get it to run and install the apps I needed immediately (keep in mind this is after a whole day of dealing with this and having clients getting pretty anxious at the fact their work wasn't getting done).
So PS and AI run after this, cue a week later, today. I need Premiere Pro, so I go to launch the AAM. Gues who shows up? The bunch of bouncing AAM icons on my toolbar and ne'er can I actually get to the AAM interface to isntall anything.
So I go to creative.cloud.com and try to download from there. Nope, just tries to launch AAM and we get the same old crash. Then I proceed to uninstall everything, all over again in an attempt to redo what had worked before. Except now. The AAM installer, just sits on the loading screen. Doing nothing. Absoutely nothing, so I can't get any applications installed on my workstation and I'm pretty upset at this point considering the grief this is causing me right now as I have a tight deadline for tomorrow morning which I am more than likely going to miss. Not cool.

OK so I've finally gotten the AAM to install and run, I don't know if tha pps will work after this but if they don't, I'm probably going to throw something. If anyone has issues with this, this is what I actually had to do to get the AAM to work.
    1. Uninstall what you can using the Uninstall files
    2. For whatever you can't uninstall, delete it outright
    3. I deleted the entire Adobe folder under Library/Application Support
    4. Restart
    5. Run the Adobe Cleaner Tool
    6. Restart
    7. Run the AAM installer from here http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4774 it will do an update first
    8. If step 7 works; restart your computer (AAM still won't run after the install), if it didn't I can't help you... sorry
    9. After Restart, run Adobe Application Manager from Applications in Finder
    10. Install your apps.
    11. Profit?
I don't know why this happened (twice) and I'm pretty angry about it considering I've got a good 2-3 hour wait for all my adobe apps to re-downlaod and install which means I'm going to be up all night in order to get my work done. This whole convoluted process to get this to work is insane, I can't afford a reformat just to resolve this (2-3 days rebuilding, installing, setting up a highly complex software development environment) which seems to be the immediate recommendation.

  • ARD & Shared file with cluster of macs

I want to share my teaching resources and want to have each emac in the cluster to have a folder for each year group & each student within that to save their work.
I intend to create the folders on my machine and then copy over to each machine using ARD.
If I set this up on my machine and then copy over items do I need to change any of the permissions for each user to save into their shared area??
Before you ask - we do not have the funds at the moment to buy a server!!!!
    Many thanks

put the items in your users/shared folder. This should give them the correct permissions. Otherwise run the unix command line item to repair permissions after the copy.

  • Embedded OC4J broken on Mac OS X

I've now installed JDeveloper on two separate machines; one a Powerbook G4, and the other an iMac G5. Even when not using a data connection (let's say you just want to see a .jsp page), the following error is generated when starting up the embedded OC4J server:
    06/02/15 18:44:22 Exception in thread "OC4J Launcher" java.lang.NoSuchFieldError: isOracleDataSource
    06/02/15 18:44:22 at oracle.oc4j.sql.DataSourceConnectionPoolImpl.initConnectionCache(DataSourceConnectionPoolImpl.java:122)
    06/02/15 18:44:22 at oracle.oc4j.sql.DataSourceConnectionPoolImpl.<init>(DataSourceConnectionPoolImpl.java:109)
    06/02/15 18:44:22 at oracle.oc4j.sql.spi.ResourceAdapterImpl.createDataSourceConnectionPool(ResourceAdapterImpl.java:99)
I had replied to this post with a fix disabling datasources.rar in the oc4j-connectors.xml file:
    Embedded OC4J Server won't start
This then allows the server to startup - but I think it's the source of my second problem - ie. the inability to see a database by it's JNDI name:
Need help connecting to Oracle 8i db
I hope this get's fixed; because for now; the embedded OC4J server is not usable on OS X.

The version reported in the About box under JDeveloper says 1.5.0_05.
java -version in the terminal was returning 1.4.2_04; so I relinked it to 1.5.0 to make sure it wasn't the issue and restarted JDeveloper. Regardless, oc4j always starts up with 1.5.0 java executable:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5.0/Home/bin/java -client -classpath /Volumes/fox/Applications/developer_apps/JDeveloper.app/Contents/Resources/jdev/j2ee/home/oc4j.jar:/Volumes/fox/Applications/developer_apps/JDeveloper.app/Contents/Resources/jdev/jdev/lib/jdev-oc4j-embedded.jar -Xverify:none -DcheckForUpdates=adminClientOnly -Doracle.application.environment=development -Doracle.j2ee.dont.use.memory.archive=true -Doracle.j2ee.http.socket.timeout=500 -Doc4j.jms.usePersistenceLockFiles=false oracle.oc4j.loader.boot.BootStrap -config /Volumes/fox/mishra/jdevhome/system/oracle.j2ee.10.1.3.36.73/embedded-oc4j/config/server.xml

  • Can I upgrade mac OS 10.7 to 10.8 remotely through ARD?

Can I upgrade mac OS 10.7 to 10.8 remotely through ARD?

    Yes. Sort of.
Using ARD, you can copy an Install Mac OS X.app to the target machine. Then launch the application and start the installation process. At this point, the machine will "go dark" and will eventually reappear in ARD once the installation is complete.

  • MAC OS X Lion performance problem - broken memory management

Starting with OS X 10.5 there are evident memory management problems in MAC OS X. The web was already then cluttered with complaints about system slowing down dramatically after some time. Back then i had slower machine, Mac Mini with 1GB RAM, so i (wrongly) concluded that it was due to inferior hardware.
Now i have 2010 MBP, core i7, 8 GB RAM, dual GPU.
Mac os X Snow Leopard was pain, but after migrating to OS X Lion, working some serious stuff on MAC started to be a nightmare.
I finally managed to reproduce the problematic scenario, so i run the test and recorded the screen, into video.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5wZwZh61_4
I run the tar+bzip command, which is basic unix stuff, on the large amount of picture files, in my Pictures/ folder. Just before start, i run the "purge" command, to delete inactive/cached program data.
You can see on the video that free memory starts to drop very fast, and inactive is constantly rising. If you take a look at "bsdtar" command, it takes only a fragment of RAM, so the problem is not in this process. You cannot say that it is a program memory leak, because then the problem would not be in inactive ram, rather in active/wired.
When the free memory dropped below 100mb, i started some apps, like Safari, iPhoto and MS Word, and you can see in the video, that it takes even minutes to start an app, when normally (when there is free RAM), it would take some 3-5 secs to load.
I run the same scenario and the same commands on my Linux Centos 6 box, no problem there ! Memory usage is some 10-20mb, no problems with cache/buffer.
The memory management must be very broken in Mac OS X !

    Broken?  That's a bit harsh.
Immature?  That's perhaps a better explanation.
This paper describes Priority Paging as implemented in Solaris 2.7 back in 1998, and that's essentially what Mac OS X is in need of today:
The problem is that when pages are needed, no differentiation is made between system file cache pages and application pages, and worse, the file cache can actually steal pages needed by applications.
Finally when Dynamic Pager starts up and needs to start swapping things out, it's fairly heavy weight in operation, and causes the UI not responding cursor (aka the spinning beach ball) to appear.

  • ARD, Leopard and Intel Macs

I can't get ARD to load on my intel mac. Works fine on a power pc mac but not on an intel. I am using the latest version of ARD. Is anyone using ARD with an intel Mac?

    Many people are.
Did you migrate your ARD install from a PPC machine to the Intel machine? This is known to cause problems. Your best bet is to remove all of the various plist files and, effectively, start clean.
