ARD 3.7 full screen annoyances

Folks,
After the upgrade to ARD 3.7 I get a couple of annoyances when I switch to full screen:
Cannot switch back to window mode
The floating toolbar disappeared
Does anybody know how to solve these?

Found the way out by accident. When in full screen mode, move the mouse cursor to the very top side of the screen (not the corners). After a short delay the local menu bar and the remote desktop toolbar appear and from there one can use toolbar button or exit the fulll screen mode from the menu.
Hope this helps the others

  • Preview.app Full screen annoyance

I really like the full screen mode to read documents. There's one problem which
I found really irritating. Here it is:
    1. On page 1 of a pdf file, I move to fullscreen
    2. I read on to page 50 say in full screen
    3. Now I want to mark up something, so I exit full screen by pressing escape
    4. But this lands me back to page 1 !?
Is there a fix for this? I am considering moving to Acrobat which works all right, but wanted to
check if the preview can be made to work before I do that.
    THanks.

Do you click the green ( + ) button top left? Works for me.

OK I go to page 20 (short document)

Not me, I am still on the page 20.

  • When running full screen apps - dock is slow, difficult to appear

This is on a new MBP with an additional external monitor.  The primary display is still the laptop display.  When apps are in full screen, simply bringing the cursor to the bottom of the screen does NOT bring up the dock.  I have to continually pull down on the mouse to get it to appear.  Or I have to pull the mouse down to the bottom, stop, then pull it down again.  This seems to be in place to allow access to features at the very bottom of the window of a full screen app...whithout accidentally bumping the dock.  Maybe there's a setting for this but in it's current state, I hate it - I'm not going to use full screen apps if this is how they act.

Revealing the Dock while in a full-screen app requires not only moving the cursor to the bottom of the screen, but keeping your finger on it or moving the cursor along the bottom edge (or other "tricks") to reveal the Dock.
    SUPER ANNOYING TO ME
Many users may like that way of operation, perhaps a great majority. But hundreds of thousands may find it annoying to have this cognitive pause imposed and would rather have the dock appear accidently once in a while when moving the cursor close to the bottom area of the display.
    This worked before Mavericks:
Setting the Dock autohide delay to zero (in Terminal, with write defaults...) removed this annoyance. As soon as your cursor's at the bottom of the screen, the Dock's there.
In Mavericks: Nothing to do! (so far)
APPLE: "You" make WRONG design decisions, "you" make professional users spend dozens of hours investigating how to tweak basic features behind the scenes. And THEN, "you" quietly invalidate those changes. Please, the best design decision that "you" could make is to give the user more choice. Please, give us a section in Preferences where these things may be changed. The religious dumbing down of the interface in favour of supposedly clean esthetics is plain WRONG.
It is also quite unacceptable that APPLE does read these pages but never responds.

  • Preview full screen mode/slideshow is great, except one thing

As an owner of a 13 inch screen Macbook Air, I love the full screen slideshow mode. It's especially cool to page through a PDF with the three-fingered side swipe motion. But one annoyance is that every time I go into full screen mode with a PDF, I have to click the Maximize Size icon. Is there any way to set a preference to maximize automatically when entering full screen mode? If this isn't possible, I hope this becomes a feature soon.

I don't know, since I rarely use it w/19" monitor, but you can file an enhancement report (or bug report) with Apple, via its Bug Reporter system. Join the Apple Developer Connection (ADC)—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report/enhancement request. You'll get a get a Bug (ER) ID number; thus, starting a dialog directly with engineering.

  • Photoshop CS4 Zoom and Full Screen problems

At certain zoom percentages, my art looks fuzzy.  What could be causing this?  It looks like I need to Threshold the art, but if I tap the Zoom Tool on the page it clears up and looks like it's supposed to.  It usually looks fuzzy after I've zoomed using the Zoom Tool to select an area, not just tapped it on the screen.  Also, after going to Full Screen mode, and after taking a snapshot (using Snapz Pro X) when I hit command F again, resize the snapshot and close it, my windows are out of order.  The document I took a pic of is in the background.  It's still "hight lighted" by which I mean if I hit command W (Close) it closes it, even though it might be behind three other open windows.  It would be like if you have three Safari windows open and when you hit close, it closed the very back window, not the one you were looking at and meant to close.  Any help?  I attached an example of the behind files.  It's just like that after I get out of the zoom.  The one that is actually in "front" is the darker gray bar one that's actually behind two other files.  Says (Layer 14, Alpha 1 copy 2/8)

My video card is NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT.  I tried turning off the OpenGL and that does seem to help.  Is my video card not good enough for the new Photoshop?  Also, any suggestions on why when I go to full screen, take a snapshot (Snapz Pro X), go out of full screen and save the snapshot and close it, the next file that is "in front" is behind two or three other files?  I've hit close several times and accidentally closed the wrong file because I didn't realize it was the front file, since sometimes I can't even see it.  It hasn't been a major problem, since it will ask me to Save if I haven't saved, just an annoyance.  I have to reopen the file and am not longer able to use my history if I want to go back and make changes.  Plus if it is a large file, I have to wait for it to open.  And it makes it a hassle for me because they are all out of order then, there is no rhyme or reason to what will actually be the front file, so I close more than one I don't mean to.  I watch now, but it's a hassle I shouldn't have to deal with.  And since Expose no longer brings all the files of a program to the front, it is even more frustrating, since they can even be behind Finder windows.  It may be a Snow Leopard issue, but I don't know.  Any suggestions appreciated.  Thanks.

  • How do you activate full screen mode in safari on ipad ios7???!!!!

I've spent an hour trying to figure this out!!!!! It's working well on my iPhone but not on ipad!!
    Please help!

I completely agree, the full screen should be an option on iOS 7, which I was warned about getting. I hope they roll out an update soon. I went to this device to streamline and simplify my life and the clutter bothers me when on Safari.
There are other 3rd party apps out there I'm sure, but I don't like google anymore and try to minimize my use of them wherever possible.
The biggest annoyance is watching an embedded youtube video on safari. Solution: download Mc Tube and open the video there. While there, you get the true fullscreen view, no clutter.
Google search solution: duckduckgo better results, not revenue based & a clean interface.
I moved away from the android pack to get this seamless apple experience where you just intuitively interace with your passion, or whatever it says on the apple ipad marketing. This is being typed on an iphone keyboard from an ipad mini that all I wanted to do was run Safari in fullscreen as well as sort through the tabs like you can on the macbook.
otherwise very satisfied and awaiting some logical updates to iO7, that if not released would have Mr. Jobs rolling over in his grave!

  • Full Screen View - Browser Strip

Is there any way to prevent the browser strip from appearing while viewing a single image in full screen mode, when the cursor get close to the bottom of the screen?  I do my editing in full screen mode, and often times when I go to make an editing adjustment using the Adjustment HUD, the filmstrip appears, and it can be a little annoying.  I prefer to cycle between the browser grid view and single picture view when I'm editing, and would rather not see the filmstrip view at all.
    Thanks!

No there is no way to avoid this. What I have done is to move the film strip to the left hand edge of the screen instead of having it at the bottom. Seems to be less of a problem when placed there.
The other thing you can do is to pin the film strip to the screen, You lose a bit of screen but if the constant appearing and disappearing in an annoyance it might be worth it.

  • Dock won't appear when app in full screen

Installed Mavericks on a 2011 Mac Mini - first strange bug - Dock (I have it across the bottom) will not appear when the app is in Full Screen (Safari and Mail both act this way) - Take it out of full screen, and dock pops up like normal.  Bug?

Revealing the Dock while in a full-screen app requires not only moving the cursor to the bottom of the screen, but keeping your finger on it or moving the cursor along the bottom edge (or other "tricks") to reveal the Dock.

  • Full screen quirk with dictionary...

    Hi Everyone,
Been a long time since I posted here, just been too busy working on the next book. Anyway I found a bit of a quirk with full screen mode, which I love by the way as it takes all the distractions away when I'm writing. If you are in full screen mode and you use the writing tools to look up a word in the dictionary and thesaurus it exits full screen mode, which I expected, but it also sends your document all the way back to page one, which is a bit of an annoyance when you have a document approaching the 1000 page mark...
Anyway thought I share that one. I'm loving everything else about Pages 09, it's really been worth the wait...
    Regards
    Chris

  • Second screen blacked out when full screen with dual displays

I have a MacBook Pro connected to an LCD display. I use both screens. When working from home I'd like to have my local machine showing on the LCD monitor and my work machine showing in the MBP screen. I can do this, however I can't have the work machine in full screen mode because ARD blacks out my main LCD monitor. This frankly drives me nuts as there doesn't appear to be a preference within ARD to change this.
iTunes does the same thing. If I want to watch a video full screen in one monitor it blacks out the other. C'mon Apple, Quicktime doesn't do this and has a preferences tab just for display settings!
Does someone have a suggestion, work around, or want to point me to what I might be missing to solve this issue?

I understand what you are doing, but when you are running as full-screen the second display is blacked out because your making your station only the target at that moment. You are telling ARD that you want nothing to do with your Admin station. Also because the target doesn't have a second screen, your is blank. This avoids any confusion as to what screen belongs to what machine. ARD is working as it was designed to.
iTunes does the same thing to hid extra screens that are not part of the presentation so they don't detract from the show.
With your Observe or Control in Windowed mode, make the window of you client to fill the display as much as possible. This is the best you can do. Besides, when you are Controlling a client in Full-Screen, you can't move files and such with drag-n-drop. So if you want to work on both at the same time, you need to stay in windowed mode.

  • Can not properly view cover flow in full screen in external display

My mac is the new Mac book pro 15.4 inch screen and I connect my mac pro to external display e.g. Samsung LCD monitor 24 inches.
The bug is that I can not PROPERLY view full screen (in external display) for some application e.g. iTunes, and Front Row.
    - When I use iTunes, I can not properly view Cover Flow view in full screen (in the external display screen) except the case of mirror display.
    - For Front Row, I can not view full screen in external display but only my mac display.
However, for other DVD or VDO players, I can view movie on external display in full screen and I still be able to do other works on my mac screen.
Please let me know how to solve it.

found the likely issue!  are you participating in youtube's html5 trial?  go here and it will tell you if you are:

exit the trial and it should fix the issue.  it worked for me!

  • Who do I complain to regarding an Apple iPhone upgrade that has taken my my full screen contact picture and turned it into a tiny circle that is hard to see at a glance!!!

I'm trying to find an outlet for the frustration I feel regarding the "upgrade" that replaced my full screen picture for my contact numbers to a tiny, little dot in the right hand corner.  Are they going to give us an option to go back or did someone  just need to justify their job by making  changes??

  • How can i print an Excel file when in the full screen mode (no print options on toolbar or right clk

using Vista, sometimes after creating and saving an excel file, the document is not visible when the file is reopened.
selecting full screen mode makes the document visible, but the toolbars disappear and the print option does not show up on a right click.  How can i print the document and see the document in some other mode than full screen?

In order to print, you can click the CTRL+P keys to launch the print dialog,
Regarding the missing toolbar, try clicking the ALT key to shouw the software menu, then look around under the view option for any available toolbar settings,
If you cannot find it, i would recommend you to try the Microsoft support forums, as they have some more knowledge with their software features

  • Any ideas for smooth scrolling of full-screen panels for iPad?

I'm working on an app that is basically just a grid of full screen panels that the user can go through by swiping left, right, up, down. I want it to lock to a singled direction once a user starts swiping so I've got it set to only start scrolling in a direction when the swipe direction has been moved by a few percent - i.e. if delta (x or y) > 5% and delta x > delta y then scroll in the x direction. I'm using a method that detects 'fast swipes' to switch between panels but can also use 'slow swipes' where if the panel is moved more than 50% of the screen then it switches.
To do all this, I'm using MouseEvents - up, down, enter frame etc and TweenLite. It just isn't working right at the moment - seems to work fine when testing on a computer but on my iPad it's just not working right. The locking doesn't seem to work quite right and it's jumpy. It is an iPad 3 so it's a retina display iPad with the weakest CPU/GPU but I want to make it work fine across all iPads so catering for the weakest setup would be best. I'm running my app at 60 fps and the stage is set to 1024x768 with images that are quite high resolution (more than retina). Would 30 fps make a better choice? Should I resize my imagery so that it fits 2048x1536 exactly or is the Flash Builder clever enough to do that on the fly? (I had assumed that it would be best to let it do its thing so that when I try porting this app to iPhones and other tablets, it would be easier).
Is there anything 'out there' already that does what I'm trying to do already? I'd like to get my solution to work but if I'm just reinventing the wheel and there are existing code solutions that do exactly this then I'd appreciate being pointed in the right direction!

If you are using a stage size of 1024x768 then you should use images of that size - that will make things faster as AIR won't have to scale the bitmap itself and images will take up less memory.
If you are targeting retina screens then you could consider setting the stage to 2048x1536 - upscaling from 1024x768 works ok but depending on what you are displaying users on retina might notice a slight blur.
If you are just using sprites then performance will be poor - AIR has to do a lot of visible area calculation on sprites which really slows it down on iPad.  If you haven't already then I would suggest looking at either starling/feathers or doing your own blitting via bitmapData.draw.  Probably Starling will be best - it is quite easy to get up and running and the difference in performance can be significant (things suddenly start working like you want them to!).  There might even be something in Feathers (which is a UI component library built on Starling) that does what you want already (I don't use it so can't comment).  I am using Starling for an iPad app at the moment that involves shifting whole screens around and performance is fine with very little coding effort from iPad1 up.

  • Reader and Windows 8.1 FULL SCREEN?

Is there a way to view a document in Reader and Windows 8.1 other than on FULL SCREEN.  In previous versions, I could look at a.pdf file while working on another file on my computer screen.  This allowed me to get info from the .pdf file and input into the other program.

It might  be that you're viewing with an app written to Microsoft's new and exciting "modern" interface which is always full screen. Apparently it's much better and more exciting.
Microsoft Reader comes with Windows 8 and runs that way. Adobe also offer "Adobe Reader Touch" which runs that way.
Some of us old dinosaurs who think it might be neat to arrange multiple apps so we can do more than one thing at once like to run the "legacy" apps like Adobe Reader.
