ARD 3 + bootcamp issue

Is there any way to set a bootcamp volume as the default startup disk in a remote machine from Apple Remote Desktop 3? ARD allows me to choose the bootcamp volume, but it won't boot into windows. It keeps returning to Mac OS X. Any ideas? Thank you

After replying I found another thred in this forum that described how to navigate around the issue. I followed the instructions and am happy to report that all worked - and worked well.
Alright, I found a workaround on another thread (although I am unable to use ARD 3.0, it forced me to upgrade to 3.1 before I could use the program.

A big thanks to David Whitely!
According to David Whitely:
"If you have upgraded your client, you need to upgrade your admin as well; it's simple as that. Trying to downgrade is not a good idea any better than downgrading 10.4.8 to 10.4.7 - you're better off backing up and re-installing.
You should upgrade your client at the same time as your admin by using the 3.1 admin updater. It will keep the two in sync. If you have updated your client separately, it's time to update the admin as well.
Since 3.1 is an updater, if you are trying to setup ARD 3.0 (as a new admin machine) which has already been updated to 3.1 client, you will get an error about the client being too new. You need to do this:
Right-click the ARD 3.0 installer package.
Navigate to Contents > Installers
Run the Admin and RMDB installers, but not the client (it's the one that's preventing the ARD 3.0 super-installer from wanting to install)
Now update to ARD 3.1. "

  • MacBook Pro Core i7 + Windows 7 Bootcamp issues

I recently bought a brand new MacBook Pro Core i7 2.66Ghz with 8GB Ram and 500GB 7200rpm HD and Hi-Res display.
When I received it, I updated all Mac OS X software via software update.
I then created a 70GB Bootcamp partition to install a new full copy of Window 7 Ultimate.
I started with the 64bit version of Win 7, but as has been noted here there are some issues with the driver packages and even after managing to get the 64bit version of the Bootcamp 3.1 driver package update to install in Windows (having first installed Bootcamp 3.0 drivers), the wireless driver would not install or work, nor would the NVidia driver, so I had a very odd display aspect and low res support. There may well have been other drivers not working either, but these two really stood out.
Despite the Bootcamp 3.1 driver package apparently being installed (as reported by "About Bootcamp", the 3.1 package was still being offered to me in Apple Software Update. I tried to install again, and again it still showed as being available to install. Obviously some issue's here.
So I decided to try the Windows 7 32bit edition instead, as I don't necessarily need the 64bit version to run the Windows apps I need.
I deleted the Bootcamp partition and started again. I ended up in the exact same situation with Windows 7 32bit as I had done with Windows 7 64bit - wireless device without a driver, NVidia drivers not installed. This time I had used the Bootcamp 32bit driver packages.
In the end I've opted to just install it via VMware as a pure virtual machine. This works fine, but for what I do in Windows, I prefer to have a Bootcamp setup.
Is there a general issue with the new MacBook Pro's and Windows 7 despite Apple releasing updated driver packages? Do these new driver packages handle the dual GPU setup properly?
I have read a number of "How to's..." for installing Windows 7 on the a MacBook Pro, but none have been successful for me. Am I wasting my time for now and need to wait for Apple to update Bootcamp for the 2010 MacBook Pro's, or am I just missing something in the way I'm doing this? I can't believe it shouldn't be this hard?

Running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on my brand new 15" MBP right now.
The only problem I'm having is the USB controller issue that is reported in the following thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2411685&start=30&tstart=0
I ran the Boot Camp assistant, made the partition, rebooted with my 7 DVD, formatted the partition, performed a clean installation, & then installed the drivers from the OSX DVD when Windows booted the first time.
Replaced the NVIDIA drivers with the latest Verde release. 258.96notebook_winvista_win7_64bit_internationalwhql.exe
Everything seems to be running just fine at this point.

  • Installation of Windows 8.1 in the Maverick Bootcamp Issues

When installin the Windows 8.1 on the Bootcamp partition of the OS X Mavericks. I have removed the original optic drive and placed it in a seperate case connected USB. The Bootcamp 5.1 (and 5) have both been used to attempt the installation. The Bootcamp partition is created. Once the two check boxes have been selected (I have assumed that the first check box must only be done once in order to save this to the USB flash drive). Upon the Bootcamp Assistant recognizing this installation a pop up will tell you to give the disc a few seconds to recognize the you click the OKAY box. The desktop will fade out and the Apple loader (circle will be in view). The desktop will then reboot to what appears to be the installing of the windows disc. Upon the self reboot the screen will go to a quick gray (5-10 seconds) then default to a Blackout screen with a flashing cursor in the top left corner (this is the same quick screen that occurs whenever WIndows 7 or 8 is in it's boot initial start). Now from hear the installation never continues. At this point I have tried the methods and have spent 8 hours with both the LeveL 2 technicians at APPLE and MICROSOFT. To no avail!!!! There would appear to be a conflict between the Windows EFI files at booting the windows and the Bootcamp assistant installation commands for the partition booting for install. Nobody as of yet has come up with the solution or answer/fix. If anyone has seen this or has found a work around for this issue. Please feel free to post. I feel this is either a very simple issue that we are all overlooking or this has not been addressed as of yet. As I understand both parties are saying that they have been getting many calls regarding this issue but have not understood why it is occurring. I will be will to post different scenarios that have been attemted. Again if anyone has seen this and/or found a way to make this work please post you methods and/or thoughts. Oh by the way, all of the installations directions dealing with the Windows step by step instruction from both Windows and Apple have not worked. If the hard reboot is done and holding the option key (therefore giving you your drive selection options) you can see the Windows disc in the external drive but it will not boot to that drive. This leads us to believe that the USB is the conflict with the Windows EFI files. We have attempet this also from the Flash drive installation using the .iso but upon the hard reboot/option start the flash drive .iso file is not available for disc selection. This has led me to think that a .iso copy could be placed on the new bootcamp partion (in the Disk utility application) but I am uncertain if this could be booted form the hard reboot/option startup. Just some thoughts. So again, our final stage is staring at a Black screen with a cursor flashing, oh and there is no keyboard entry recognized at this point. In order to exit you must hard reboot/option restart to get back to the Mac HD. Looking forward to your ideas folks!

Okay, new update! As of today, I have been able to finally create a .ISO bootable flash drive that contains the new Windows 8.1 Pro. Once the bootcamp partition has been made I can now interrupt the reboot process and using the Option Key select the new EFI bootable Windows disk (on USB) it's orange. The Windows begins to load and takes me through a few steps of selecting language and enter the product key. Then we move on to the selection of the partition that is to be used for the installation of Windows. Here is where I have tried several different types of things but have not been able to get through to the installing. Depending on what selection was made during the Bootcamp partitioning installation from my Utilities in Mavericks will depend on the faults that I get. If I choose to erase and make a new installation on the new bootcamp partition then during the Windows installation (at the partitioning step) I will get the error that Windows cannot be installed on the MBR disk (Master Boot) and must be done on the GPT disk. If I try any of the disk options at this point it will either delete the partition (and cannot ADD a new partion) therefore I am forced to return back out to the Mac HD OS and restart the Bootcamp process OR If in the Bootcamp set up I choose the first option to make a partition for the Windows installation then once I get into the partitioning set up for the Windows install it says the same thing. Now I have also attempted all of the other options even the load drivers option (assuming that maybe this will allow me to load disk drivers to read the Bootcamp HD) Nope, still no continuing on to installation. I have read many days on several other methods used in the Forum. By the way, thanks for all the posts it has allowed me to be able try just about everything to include the cloning of the Info.plist files and teminal authorizations for USB and so on. I'm not a supertech but have been able to find my way around with some difficulties. The real issue here is that Apple and Microsoft have yet to make this process  very easy even for someone who has some experience with this. I have loaded Windows 7 on several other Macbook Pros operating earlier versions of the OS X but this has become absolutely too time consumming to ever wish to continue to operate MAC products in my preferred Windows. I have used other 3rd party boot patitioning programs such as Parallels and VMware. My experience with these types of programs make the install process much easier but in time as different OS software updates are applied these programs tend to have different problems forcing the user to make odd corrections at the most in opportune times. If there is anyone that has any information to further my progress I am all ears to see what may be the fix!

  • Bootcamp issue. I recently ran bootcamp on my late 09 macbook pro, and my Nvidia 9400m driver keeps crashing? Any ideas?

So I have a late 09 macbok pro, with 2.25ghz or so core 2 duo processor, 8 gb of ram, and the nvidia geforce 9400m graphics card. I just recently used bootcamp to install windows, so I can run AutoDesk Revit, however every time I go to open Revit, I am informed that my graphics driver kernal failed and has made a full recovery. What am I doing wrong?? I really need this to work for school. Thank you all.

Have you made sure you have all the bootcamp drivers installed and updated? If not, get them here. Download them from the mac side, put them on a flash drive, then restart onto the windows side. When you're in windows, run the setup off the flash drive, and when it's done, restart your computer, then log back into your windows partition, and see if the issue still exists. You might've just used bootcamp to install windows, but you might not've gotten the updated drivers.

  • Mbpr 15" bootcamp issues

So basically I keep having issues with bootcamp, yet osx seems to function fine. I have reinstalled windows too many times to count yet keep getting performance issues as well as wifi issues. I had a defective motherboard, had it replaced, yet am still getting issues. I have read that if you have a defective motherboard it can mess up formatting on your harddrive, which may cause issues like this. Is reformatting the solution and how is this even done on an apple notebook?
I have taken in my computer more several times and they have replaced a few things (resolving other issues) but not fixing this. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have been told this is a windows compatibility issue but I find that hard to believe given the very limited variety of hardware in apple notebooks. Who do I even ask for support in this case, since it seems to involve both apple (bootcamp) and ms products?

Win 7/64 doesn't work fine on my late 2011 MB Pro. It crashes frerquently. I don't know if this is because of Apple's drivers or whatelse. Surely Thunderbolt is not well supported: if you have a RAID Thunderbolt external HD it woun't be "seen" by Win 7... and I have some partitions in RAID format I woul like to read/write. But this, is another question...
    Cheers

  • Another bootcamp issue

Hey everyone. I'm having an issue running windows 7 on bootcamp. I install it, everything works install a few things restart it then suddenly when I go on it the computer gets stuck at the 'starting windows' screen. The first time I installed the drivers from snow leopard and while it was logging off it froze so I had to press the manual off button. When it turned back on it was freexing on 'starting windows'. The next time I after reinstalled bootcamp etc the drivers installed perfectly, installed a few games. When I was installing Age of Empires 3 while it was installing it kind of froze. This happened on my windows pc doe to compatibility and pressing ctrlaltdel usually fixed it. But it froze on this and everything else started freezing. I then had to manually press the off button which I did, and then I got the problem again. I was wondering if anyone knew the answer to my problem? By the way Windows boots up in safe mode but not normal.
Help would be appreciated. By the way this is boot camp installation for the second latest macbook pro.

Hey again! I'm actually having another problem now. I'm trying to play Star Wars Battlefront II but it pops up with a tnl error. After a bit of research tnl stood for texture and lighting and I needed 3d graphics which requires nvidia drivers which I just deleted because they caused errors on my system (post 1).
Is there a safr Nvidia card or another way to fix this? Thanks guys.

  • Any Bootcamp issues with the new MBP? What about right clicking?

Tried out the new MBP at the Apple store... was wondering how Bootcamp would work with it. I use Bootcamp all the time for work so I'm interested to here the pro's and con's for the new models. Seems like the new trackpad clicking would be cause issues with the "two-finger click" in Bootcamp.

    Right clicking issues galore!
(at least in the windows side of things...)
    The 64bit windows worked fine....
The 32bit windows had many issues, even after 2 attempts. (via boot camp)
The main issue: the functions keys are locked on. Normally, I would hold down "fn" and push "f10" to mute but that doesn't work. All I have to do is hit "f10" and its muted. That is all good until I have to right-click using the "shift+f10" method since the bottom-right-of-trackpad and two-finger-clicking doesn't work whatsover. The "shift+f10" method won't work now since the fn keys are locked on. We have NO IDEA what the problem is. Could it be a driver issue...though it works fine with x64bit and OS X side of things.
Oh, and mac doesn't give support if one installs Vista and Microsoft won't give support since it isn't on a 'native' pc, so we are screwed. They have both protected themselves and blamed it on the other and the customer is left out to dry.

  • Built in iSight failure... is it a Bootcamp issue?

Anybody think that this blog topic may be working on the right lines (see link below) - is it a driver/ firmware issue that came in with Bootcamp 1.1? My System Profiler, when it does actually detect the inbuilt iSight shows a firmware of 1.82. What shows up on somebody's brand new machines that have never had Bootcamp installed? You can get the information from system profiler under the USB section.
I would love to have this confirmed. The suggested fix on the blog thread is to hunt for the iSight driver included with 1.1 Bootcamp Beta - frustrating as this has now gone up to 1.1.1 so I can't get hold of it.
    http://www.cyberhq.nl/2006/08/20/built-in-isight-problems.html
I do have AppleCare for 3 years - I just think that this may be an unresolvable issue - I hope they will replace the MacBook Pro...

    Hi Gordon,
Thanks for your response. Actually I have already asked my work buddies not to use manager for a while so I can address the problem.
BTW, I also want to know if there is a way to monitor that kind of session in SAP. I will post it in another thread.

  • Bootcamp issue with new iMac

Hi - I just purchased a new 21.5 inch iMac with Intel Core i7.  I used Bootcamp to partition a new drive, and I installed 32bit Windows 2007 Home Premium.  Everything worked without a problem, until I tried to install Bootcamp in the Windows environment.  It says that "the version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you are running".  I searched the forums for similar issues - I tried to re-download the Bootcamp update in OSX; I tried to use the command prompt to go right to the msi file, and nothing worked.  Unfortunately, I cannot connect to the internet through Windows until I instal all the drivers, so I am stuck.
Does anyone know if the Bootcamp drivers are supported on the new iMac i7?

Hi, ta know, they don't mention it here, but I'm wondering if 10.8 might not require 64 bit Win7?

    MacBookPro unibody 2.66... 10.5.8
i want to swap a larger drive into my laptop... old 320g for a 7200rpm 500g...
i cloned my internal drive to the larger externally enclosed drive... it took 4.5 hours with copycatx...
before i physically swap the two drives, i want to be sure i can do the following...
i'll need to use the new available free space (167g...) for at least one new mac partition to run as a separate boot-up...
i understand there are issues with bootcamp when either resizing or partitioning....
i took a look with disk utility to see the free space and perhaps format that space for the other mac bootup... i saw a warning that bootcamp might get affected...
i then took a look with drive genius.... when i looked at the repartitioning page, i saw no warning...
i formatted the free space as journaled hfs+...
when i attempt to run "vmware fusion" to launch the windows partition i get an error of the partition not meeting it's original specs... something like that... i tried a few things from within "vmware fusion"... reassigning the windows partition... importing... nothing doing...!
my question is for someone who has specifically done a cloning of a dual boot disk drive onto a larger drive, swapped out the drives and has successfully commandeered the remaining free space as a new mac partition...
seems like something that should be easy enuff to do....?
but perhaps it needs a more exact path for success...
    help....?
    thank you...

    Hi M,
a later done partitioning to add additional partitions to a harddisk alters the position of the BootCamp partition in the partition table so that the Windows Bootloader can not 'find' the Windows partition.
With Windows XP it helped to simply edit the Boot.Ini file and point it to the WIndows partition.
With Vista and Windows 7 there no longer is a boot.ini but EasyBCD http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1 can do the same.
One thing to remember though is, that even Vista and Windows 7 'suffer' from the limitation of four partitions on one harddisk immenent to the Master Boot Record (MBR) since Apple EFI/GPT/MBR emulation can not handle Extended Partitions and Logical Partitions inside an Extended Partition.

  • Windows 7 bootcamp issues for new iMac 27

I bought an iMac 27 on Friday. Have used bootcamp on an older mac previously with no issues. I've tried now for several days to instal windows 7 without success. I've tried to 32 and 64 bit versions and both lead to either a blue or black screen freeze. I've also tried deleting the ATI.sys file but this also hasn't worked.
Would appreciate a walkthrough of how I can sort this (please put it in
Laymans terms as I am not particularly systems literate.)

  • Repairing Disk/bootcamp Issues

I tried extending my Windows hard drive capacity using Disk Utility but it said my disk needed to be repaired. I read that i could re-install bootcamp and just select a larger GB capacity for the windows partition to increase its capacity but will i have issues since my disk needs repairing? I really need the windows partition so i want to be sure before i try to re-install bootcamp. and everything has been backed up already.
either way ill probably have to repair my disk but Ive lost my Installation disks for my macbook pro Im running OS X Snow Leopard, so i was wondering if i would be able to upgrade to Mountain Lion. Mountain Lion can repair disks without the need for CD's which is what i would like to do but since my disk needs to be repaired would it allow me to uninstall snow leopard and install Mountain Lion or will i run into issues? Again just trying to make sure that mountain lion will work before i buy it. Dont want to spend 20 bucks on it and end up having to buy the Snow Leopard installation CD's. Thanks for all your help.

A Clean install would be the plan then. So im guessing that will repair the disk since my laptop will start fresh and new with the new Mountain Lion System.

Hi! These issues are more annoying than problematic because they arent really causing me issues persay. The first is.. my Macbook has a Intel GMA 950 card.. but on WinXP it has 2 GMA 945 Cards installed for display adapters.. Weird eh? Secondly when I run this Windows game called Maple Story, my F keys for adjusting brightness, volume, and the eject disc key dont work, and my numlock key doesnt work anymore. I have to reinstall the BootCamp drivers to get them to work again. Is this because the game uses F keys for something? The game uses the F keys to make my character make faces and stuff. Thanks!

  • Several bootcamp issues and os version

I just did a clean install of my macbook pro led 15". I just used the osx install disc, not the app disc.
I then did software update to update everything including to 10.5.6. I ran bootcamp and selected 45gb for windows. I booted from my retail windows vista ultimate and installed ultimate 32bit. When inside vista bootcamp doesn't seem to work. I ran the installer from the osx disc and bootcamp install installed fine and i rebooted windows fine too. video is terrible with a score of 1.0, keyboard keys don't seem to darken or anything. They just stay lit and won't dim or anything. Trackpad won't right click at all even though bootcamp is checked for two fingers for the right click. Scrolling in windows and IE etc is extremely fast and is in fact backwards. I have to scroll up to go down and down to go up.
windows says new hardware and i need to refresh the windows score. i refresh and it just stays the same saying i need to refresh cus there's new hardware.
I have no clue why this is so messed up nor how to fix it.
Oh yeah. Why can't you use 64bit windows and why do the instructions say you must have windows xp sp2 and nothing else? this is ridiculous. it shouldn't matter what version of windows xp or vista you use.

!.) Boot Camp is installation software - once it partitions the drive and starts your installer it no longer operates. It is done. Since Apple went to Intel, the Mac is no different than a PC when Windows is installed.
2.) You have a drivers problem. You need more and better drivers.
3.) Boot Camp is poor in that it gets finished too soon. The drivers on your OSX DVD will get you started, but they are inadequate for a satisfying OS install.
4.) Apple doesn't update these drivers automatically - another failure. You have to find them - you install them from the Apple website WHILE in Windows.
5.) Some of us get these updated drivers faster and better straight from the manufacturer.
6.) The drivers for the strictly Apple hardware (Trackpad iSight etc) only can be had from the Apple website THROUGH your Windows booted machine.
    For example:http://support.apple.com/downloads/MultiTouch_Trackpad_Update_for_Windows_XP__Vista
7.) The example I just posted is a December 2008 Apple Windows Trackpad driver update. If your OSX disk is older than that, then your Apple-supplied Windows drivers from your disk are out of date and have not recieved the latest driver fix from Apple (and Apple won't prompt you on this).
8.) Driver fixes contain both Vista and XP software - your Windows hardware installer KNOWS which one to use (Vista) and will leave the other one (XP).
9.) All is not perfect in the Windows-on-Apple world. There is a thread in this forum that has anguished over the Trackpad issue for OVER one year now AND it is still going - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1433222&tstart=0
It is a good idea to see what others have tried first before starting from scratch on your own.
The hatter - you made an error: he has a Pro (thus needs the video driver you speak of)
NOTE I had VISTA! It sucked, and I asked for my money back - XP rules.

  • 15"MBP(late 2011): Bootcamp Issue - Black screen on reboot

    Hi,
Im running into this issue that I can't fix no matter what I do.
I run bootcamp assistant to attempt to install windows 7 (even though I tried with win xp and another win 7 dvd with the same result) when I click "Start Installation" and my computer reboots it goes straight to a black screen with a blinking cursor at the top left and then nothing. I've left it for hours and nothing happens.
I searched for people who had a similar issue and tried what they've suggested. I've tried fixing the drive in disk utility, removing the windows partiton and creating it again, reseting the smc, reseting the pram and still I get the black screen.
Im am using an external optical drive.
I hope somebody can help me.
    Thanks,
    Atanas

If Boot Camp Assistant won’t open because you haven’t updated your firmware or system software Boot Camp requires that you have Mac OS X v10.5 or later, and the latest firmware, installed on your computer. Some computers may require more than one firmware update.
To update your computer’s system software:
1 From the Apple menu, choose Software Update. 2 If an update for Mac OS X appears in the list, select it. 3 Click Install.
    To update your computer’s firmware:
1 Go to www.apple.com/support/downloads. 2 Search for the firmware updates for your computer.
For example, search for “Mac mini firmware update.”
Important: Some computers may require more than one firmware update. See docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303880 for the current updates available for your computer.
3 Download all applicable firmware update packages. 4 Open each package and follow the onscreen instructions.
    Hope this Helps!
