ARD not active.

I have enabled Apple Remote Management sharing in my Mac OSX Server Leopard, and i can control it from my machine and everything works fine, but when i restart the machine and when it leads to the login window, the apple remote desktop shows me "ARD not active" and i cant Observe and Control until i go physically to that machine and type it in and then i can observe & control.. is there anything i have to enable it to let me Observe login window!!

I have recently begun to have the same problem.
I have a computer I work with that just began to return these indicators:
When first turned on, "Access Denied" and after a time, it switches to "ARD not active." I have checked both in person and by having the person on site check to see that none of the shortname/passwords have been changed. We have also tried restarting the cable modem and router.
This setup has worked for over a year, and now it is impossible to connect with. I had someone bring in their personal iBook and hook it up to the network. I was able to 'see' (list the computer in ARD, but they were running an older version of the Client so I was unable to "Control") their computer as well as access their HD via "Connect To Server." Even after that, I was still unable to connect the original computer.
Assuming nothing has changed since I was last able to connect, what should I try?
The remote computer:
G4/400MHz Running OS X 10.3.9 (with the updated ARD Client)
My computer:
Dual 2G/G5 Running OS X 10.4.5 (with ARD 2.2)

  • ARD 3.1 and ARD Not Active on Clients

    I have ARD 3.1 installed on a PPX X-serve running 10.4.8. The client I am managing are core duo minis also running version 3.1 and 10.4.8.
    Lately when ever I try to see the clients throuh ARD I get the message that ARD isn't active on the client or the client is offline.
    I tesetd this on site and ADR is enabled on all the clients and all had working ip connections.
    Any ideas where to start?

    Yea same here....our machines (250) can be sitting at the login windows and ARD is running and I can do pretty much anything with them that I want using ARD on them. Thats on a local network though....not using wireless, not that should matter though. Also using ARD 3.1.
    When you have users logging off at the clients ARD Agent or something with ARD shutsdown for a moment until the machine gets back to the login window and then the Agent should restart and be waiting for ARD like normal again.

  • "ARD Not Active" after Archive and Install

    I had to Reinstall the system on a MacPro, Final Cut issues. Since then I can't get ARD to work on that machine. Everything is setup the same as it was. What am I missing.

    It won't let me add a new account. I am locked out and when I try to unlock it gives me the beachball and becomes non responsive after it tries to authenticate.
    I looked at the log file, I am not sure what exactly to look for. I am no programer. I see an awful lot of negative wording. I see some errors like "error (-4956) locating menu extra but they are mostly under system preferences...I see some stuff in the loginwindow that says is not a full path... Otherwise, the only reference I see to the finder is when I have force quit the finder.

  • ARD 3 'not active' despite System Preferences saying it is!

    The setup - a network of 54 Macs of various configurations on a Windows 2003 network running 10.3.9 have ARD 3 installed. All is well.
    The change - due to a Microsoft patch on our network, we were forced to upgrade to Tiger. We purchased 10.4.6 on DVD from CDW and installed. But 10.4.6 is problematic with Adobe CS - so we were forced to downgrade to 10.4.5
    The problem - after this downgrade to 10.4.5, we made sure ARD was still turned on in the System Preferences. But when I look with the application, every single one says the ARD is not activated!
    What do I have to do to get them back?

    No, all the of the users were active.
    Despite the OS reinstall putting ARD 2.2 back into the system, ARD wasn't active. So I went back into the Previous system and found the ARDAgent that was removed by the reinstall. I copied the RemoteManagement folder from the System/Library/CoreServices folder and replaced the new RemoteManagement folder that had been recreated.
    Voila - ARD is working perfectly again.
    So because I had ARD 3 installed, when we did the OS reinstall it put in ARD 2.2 which my ARD software couldn't recognize anymore. It didn't even recognize that it was 2.2 - just said ARD not active. I replaced the 2.2 ARDAgent with the 3 ARDAgent from the Previous system folder and all is well.

  • ARD not working after updating to 10.6.4

    Just updated my server from 10.6.3 to 10.6.4. Everything is still fine - except the fact that my Remote Management seems to be dead now...
    "Remote Management" is definitely on. But on my Client(s), the server is not recognized and its status is either "ARD not activated" or not even visible (just the black icon with the server's IP; but without its hostname). But DNS is fine...
    I can use Server Admin and SSH as usual. Even restarted the agent with "sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/k ickstart -restart -agent" which reported back that it has restarted.
    But still no signs of my server in ARD. So it seems that VNS crashed on the server?!
    Did not find any hints in the log files. Firewall is off by the way.

    I started having this exact same problem with the update 10.6.4, in that ARD access did not work at all. I'd get a "connection failed" message every time I tried to connect.
    Kickstart did not solve the problem.
    Finally, I gave up and decided to wait for 10.6.5 in hopes that the problem would go away after THAT update.
    I have now updated to 10.6.5, and no dice.
    ARD still doesn't work.
    Kickstart still doesn't help.
    Any advice?

  • Remote desktop client software not active

    I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I'm a bit bewildered by this errormessage (and I couldn't get a hit when I searched for it) when I try to drag a file from the xserv to the macbook pro desktop, remote desktop client software not active.
    The macbook has the ard server and connects to the xserv ppc. It connects over the internet.
    The xserv is behind a iptables fw and I have forwarded 3283 tcp/udp plus 5900 udp/tcp to the server. Have I forgotten a port ?

    and tried to find out more from the discsussions here.
    The macbook pro sits behind an airport which is hooked into the dsl modem. Do I need to configure port forward in the airport as well.
    Connecting to the xserv and working on it works great but the copy file transfer fails.

    Hi there I took new try at this and this is what finally solved it for me.
    The earlier answer I got was very good advise but I had already done that bit, actually I might have overdone it a bit I had checked all the boxes under the useraccount on sharing.
    Back to business.
    Firewalling. I realised I need to open and portforward at both locations and remeber it's booth tcp and udp.
    So at the xserve location I needed to forward 3283 and 5900 both tcp and udp from outside to the IPnumber of the xserve.
    At home with my macbook I needed to do the same.
    However this did not solve it, I had forgotten one software on the macbook. On the xserve I had installed ARD upgraded it to 3.1 AND installed the upgrade for ARD 3.1 client. The client part I had forgotten at home. So once my ARD and ARD client software matched I could connect to the xserve and drag and drop files booth ways.
    ARD wasn't running on the xserve I just had it installed along with the client software.
    So portforwarding in firewalls and the same software and versions in all locations seems to have solved it for me.
    A small note enabling/disabling the firewall in macbookpro did nothing for me since when enabled ARD rules were in place and active so it still worked.
    I hope I made some sense.

  • Client "not active"

    I am trying to work on a remote client that has ARD 2.2 installed. My admin is 3.2.
    I am able to do screen sharing fine, but when I try to Upgrade Client Software, Copy a file to the client, or Install software on the client, I get the message "The Remote Desktop Client software is not active [on the client computer]".
    Any idea on what I need to do to administer this remote client. It is an iMac that is several years old, I think.

    Either you need to open port 3283 on all routers and firewalls used at both ends of the connection, or you need to have the client software updated manually.

    I just downloaded ARD from the App store. I installed ARD Client 3.4 on the Client machines. Activated the machines in Sharing. All Users with everything checked except for "Show when being observed"
    I am able to Observe, Control, Curtain and Lock.
    I just tried to start a chat with a client and got the following error:
    Unable to Chat with “WebVantage’s iMac”. The Remote Desktop Client software is not active.
    I try to send a Message and get the following error:
    This task will fail. This task is not supported on “WebVantage’s iMac”.
    ...with the choices Continue or Go Back
    Try to run reports and it just seems to go on forever and says "Waiting for report data."
    Many of the other choices won't work either, like Sleep, Wake, etc.
    Am I missing something?

    WOW! It's been over a month and not one reply? First time this ever happened.
    I am finding that I cannot lock the other Macs now. I get:

    Have you opened Photoshop or any other Adobe app that Bridge works with?  You need to do this if you've upgraded PS or just signed up for CC.

    I transported a Web Dynpro application from source system to target system. When starting the application via browser I'm getting this error message:
    "Component XXX_BDB is not active"
    But the component is active in source and in target system. When I try to activate the component in target system there comes this error:
    Component XXX_BDB can't be generated because of errors: see long text.
    (Message no. SWDP_WB_TOOL100)
    According to the long text, there is a heavy error and I should check the component in order to eliminate the errors. Checking the syntax is OK and strangely, the component controller is also active. But when I want to start WebDynpro-Component, the error message "Component is not active" is displayed.
    I have checked this thread [Problems when activating ComponentController   |Problems when activating ComponentController; without any effect....
    Does someone have any ideas?

    where can I check the generation load limit?
    I've done an extended syntax check (in source system, is that okay or should I do the check on both systems?), there are some errors regarding strings, field properties and structure extensions and some warnings regarding field properties.
    But this errors are on an other wd component as well, but this other component is running, so I'm not sure if these errors are crucial. However I'm going to fix the errors now.
    Baskaran, I will check the component controller and component usage as well but how can I identify the errors or should I just check it in general?
    And what about the fact that both applications are running on the source system?
    Additional info: the source system is ECC 6.0, the target system is Solution Manager 7.0

    Try to activate the transfer structure using Pogram RS_TRANSTRU_ACTIVATE_ALL in SE 38. Give the Infosource & Source system name there & then execute.

    we are having a migration and just after migration we are finding the the transfer structure is not active. Hence in order to activate the same we ran <b>RS_TRANSTRU_ACTIVATE_ALL</b> program but still in the job log finding some problems like <b>0BP_RELTYPES_TEXT</b> is not available in source system. Kindly help in this regard since this is a critical issue and we are not able to run our daily loads because of this.
    Can any one also tell me if it is a migration problem?

    Hi Sriram,
    This is the First time ur loading data from that system, If yes u need to do full extraction steps like transfer data source in RSA5 ..etc.
    After that u need to replicate those DS from their respective sources systems in BW.
    After doing those all actions, then u need to run the program 'RS_TRANSTRU_ACTIVATE_ALL'.
    If u have multiple TS to be activated from one source system ---> u can enter Source system name and put * in Info source column after executing the program, it will activate all transfer structures which are linked to that source system at a time.

    For a Particular material, Material Ledger is active or not? Can be checked in Accountig view of Material Master.
    Why we need Material Ledger?
    A fundamental task of the material ledger is carrying inventories in multiple currencies and/or
    valuations.
    Material inventory values are normally carried by the SAP system in one currency. The material
    ledger component enables the R/3 System to carry inventory values in two additional
    currencies/valuations. Therefore, all goods movements in the material ledger are performed in up
    to 3 currencies or valuations. Currency amounts are translated into foreign currencies at
    historical exchange rates directly at the time of posting. Businesses such as those in highinflation
    countries can therefore carry their inventories in a more stable currency (such as US
    dollars). This reveals inflationary effects on inventory values.
    If you use transfer prices to represent value flows in your company in different
    valuation views, you must use the material ledger. This allows you to carry your
    inventories in three different valuations (legal valuation, valuation for reporting
    purposes, and profit center valuation).
    Before activating the material ledger, make sure you know which currencies and valuations
    you want to use, because you cannot go back and change the setting.
    Activating the material ledger is a prerequisite for using multiple valuations.

    Please check your Material Ledger Activation  setting for the Valuation AreaC002 in T-code OMX1. The Check box for the ML activation against the Valuation Area-S001 may be ticked.  After activation/ticking this box, T-code CKMSTART was not executed to complete the ML activation.  If you want the activation of Material Ledger, you have to run T-code CKMSTART to complete this ML activation or Otherwise uncheck this box.  I hope this step will resolve your issue.
