ARD Slow to Authenticate Connection

Hi All I was wondering if any one could help with an issue that is not critical but is bugging me and slowing me down
When I start Up ARD and select a room the MAC Clients are sat at ‘Authenticating’ this takes about 5 to 10 minutes to complete a room of 20 clients, at that point I’m able to run task, queries or deploy software till I’m blue in the face.
As you can imagine this delay makes it very hard to schedule tasks.
The Setup:
OS X Server 10.6.8 on Vlan 22 running 3.5.1 ARD
OS X Clients 10.6.8 on Vlan 11 running 3.5.1 ARD (clients are set not to sleep just turn off monitor)
OS X Server is bound to our AD (DC01)
OS X Clients are bound to both OD and AD
With my limited knowledge I think the issues is DNS related (but not ruling out I’m wrong) as the OS X server can ping any of the client IPs but not names it can not even resolve the name of DC01 unless the FQDN is stated (DC01.College.Local), I have confirmed that the Clients are listed on the windows DNS server also I have looked at the DNS settings on the OS X Server and the OS X Clients they are set the following way:
OS X Server: DNS Service is off and the Network configuration is set to use the Windows DNS on DC01.
OS X Clients: Network configuration is set to use the Windows DNS on DC01.
Anyone have any idea why I have such a delay when first connecting ???
Thanks Simon

How many clients do you have in ARD in total?
Have you considered leaving ARD running on your computer? That way, when you need it, all you have to do is un-mimize ARD without the wait time.
On average, how many of the  20 clients take more then 1-2 minutes to get past 'Authenticating' ? I ask because if it's just one or two computers, You could try deleting the IP address in the computer record to force ARD to reconnect to a client.
When a client is displaying Authenticating can you still connect to it?

  • IPad slow in re-connecting to a known WiFi network

    Hi all,
I have noticed that my iPad is sometimes slow in re-connecting to a known wi-fi network (my home network).
I have been doing some online research and it seems like it's an issue apple acknowledged.
Normally it connects right away, other times it takes about 4-5 seconds.
In rare occasions it takes up to a minute...
    Is this normal?

The only times mine does not instant connect is when it has been away from the network for a period of time...and then it seems like only a second or two. Safari opens immediately but mail can take several seconds to figure out the connection. If I stay within the router signal, and sleep the iPad, when it wakes it is on the network with no delay.
    Hope this helps.

    dovdov2,
are you saying that when you connect your MacBook Pro to a monitor, your Internet connection slows down, but when you disconnect the monitor, it speeds up again, and that this is reproducible from one day to another?
Does this happen both under OS X and under Windows 7, or only under one of them?
How are you currently connecting your MacBook Pro to your monitor?

  • Can others on a shared wi-fi slow down my connection or block my connection with software or special hardware?

Hi, Can others on a shared wi-fi slow down my connection or block my connection with software or special hardware?  My connection has been very spotty and many times cuts off.  The router is in our upstairs living room only 70 feet from my room, but it just seems like recent connections have been horrible.  Also, I noticed the following image when trying to access the apple webpage.  Anyone know what that might be?  It's not the usual apple icon next to the address.
    thanks
    Dave

    Welcome,
Indeed, by definition other users would "share" the bandwith and hence slow you down - but not cut you off.
More likely is that there are other devices (e.g. cordless phones) are causing interference. You don't specify which AP you have but if it an 802.11n one you should get better reception as the 5GHz range does get so much interference.
Try utilities like NetSpot or iStumbler to see what's in range.
The icon on the web page is probably something else not related to WiFi

  • Can the wireless card in my mac wear out and slow down internet connection??

can the wireless card in my mac wear out and slow down internet connection??

Yes the WiFi card can wear out but not what you would really call wearing out like a pair of pants do. It can start to fail causing the connection between your computer and your Wifi router to slow down, IE transmit and receive less data in a given time period. And then it will fail completely.
But as to your internet connection being affected by a failing WiFi card no that can't happen.
If you turn the WiFi off and connect the computer to your router with an Ethernet cable does your internet browsing and downloading speed increase? If it does then there may be something wrong with the WiFi card in your computer or the WiFi section of your router. Hard to say which.
If after connecting the computer to your router with an Ethernet cable and your speeds do not increase then it is a problem with the router or on your ISPs end.

  • Internet speed slows down when connected via airport express

Internet speed slows down when connecting via airport express. When connecting directly via the timecapsulethe internet speed is ok, when connecting via the airport express the speed slows down. What can I do to change that? Any suggestions?

Turn off the AirPort Express completely as a test, and move your computer very close to the location of the Express.
As I said before, the Express can only extend the bandwidth (speed) that it receives from the Time Capsule, so the speed that you see there with the Express powered off will be the fastest speed of which the Express is capable.
The Express will make the signal go further when it extends....but it will not make the signal go faster.
A good location for a device that extends wirelessly is a point that is about half the distance from the Time Capsule and the general area that needs more wireless coverage.
If you locate the AirPort Express too far from the Time Capsule or there are more than a couple of walls in the signal path, the signal will be very slow by the time that it reaches the Express....and the Express simply extends a signal that has already slowed down significantly.
If you already have the Express located about half the distance between the Time Capsule and general area that needs more wireless coverage, how many walls, ceilings or other obstructions are there in the signal path between the Time Capsule, the AirPort Express and the area that needs more coverage?
Often, due to obstructions, it is just not possible to achieve good performance when you try to extend a network wirelessly. The solution is connect the AirPort Express to the Time Capsule using a wired Ethernet connection.
There is virtually no signal loss with this type of connection, so the Express can be located exactly where it is needed and it will produce a much faster wireless signal in this type of setup.

  • Slow Wi-Fi connection with both Extreme and Express

    Hi all,
I have problems with slow Wi-Fi connection at home. With my 100/100 Mbit/s fiber I have an Airport Extreme 802.11ac connected by Ethernet cable directly into the cable modem.
With only the Extreme as a router I was not satisfied with the Wi-Fi range and therefore also bought an Airport Express 802.11n (2nd generation ) to extend the network with.
The range got better but I'm facing real slow Wi-Fi connection both on the Extreme and the Express.
Example - When connected to the Extreme less than 1 meter from it I normally get a down speed on 30 Mbit/s and on the Express (placed 8 meters from the Extreme) I normally get between 2 to 8 Mbit/s down speed.
I have a couple of questions about this issue below that I hope someone can answer.
    1. The Extreme and the Express are connected wireless. If I connect them together with cable instead, will I then get the same speed from the Express that I have on the Extreme?
    2. I've read in several forums that the latest versions on the Extreme and Express causes bad Wi-Fi connections and an downgrade to earlier version is recommended. My problem is that Airport Utility only can find the latest versions when trying to downgrade (bought both of them recently).
How can I downgrade to earlier versions when Airport Utility can't find them? If possible, is this still recommended to do?
    Current versions:
    Extreme - 7.7.3
    Express - 7.6.4
    3. Could it cause problems if the Extreme and Express doesn't have the same versions, or is this normal?
    4. Any suggestions to improve the down speed on my Wi-Fi connection?
    Thanks in advance!

    1. Cable connections are always better.
But test first.. turn off the express.. reboot or even factory reset the extreme and have another go with it.
On a computer plugged in by ethernet test the speed.. wireless should be off..
So the most important thing is .. do you get full speed by ethernet.. if not you will never get it by wireless.. always less.. and sometimes much less.
    2. You cannot downgrade either of those models. So you are stuck with them as is..
    3. I think wireless links are always problematic.. by the very nature of the beast you will drop your speed by half.. so if the links were perfect.. and the Extreme wireless gives you 30Mbit then the best the express could ever give you is 15Mbit.. it is the nature of wireless.
    4. Yes.. we can make suggestions.
But give me the pure wired network speed first. If that is low then tell me what modem you are using, which you mentioned.. normally a fibre system has no modem just a fibre converter to ethernet called ONT. Optical Network Terminal

  • Slow and dropping connection WRT300n v 2/WMP300 v 2

    Slow an dropping connections on WRT300n v 2/WMP300 v 2 updated with latest firmware/driver.
Before update it gave a speed of 3-4 mbit/s and after update about 30 mbit/s, this is just a bit better(10-13%) than the D-link products (604/AP2000+/DWL-G510) i intended too let go of old age.
For E-mail and surfing the web this speed is ok, but sharing files and use a mediacenter its not ok.
Next problem is that after about 30-40 min of full load the router just dropps all connections and reboots or what ever.
The Linksys products WRT300N/WMP300 is not a what a expected it too be

  • WIM Chat Slow but still connected

    Hi Everyone,
During the chat session Agent usually see the alert on the close “Slow but still connected” as per the document it’s a connection speed issue between Customer and the Web Server (Please correct me if I am wrong)
If this is the then can anybody advise what is the minimum bandwidth requirement for this link or is there any workaround for this. I know this check can be disabled but is there anything else we can do about this.
    Thanks,
    Atif

Bandwidth for agent is at http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cust_contact/contact_center/cisco_interaction_manager/cim_432/reference/guide/cim441bom.pdf.pdf
    page 8
work with tac, slow connections can be analyzed through logs and we can tweak the polling intervals. Also if connection of customer is slow there is nothing you can do to speeden up chat but you can tweak the length of polling to allow these chats without it being disconnected. Web server can also be optimized by following best practices

  • Slowness in the connection attempt

    Hello all!
I have Cisco AP 1200 Series configured with 802.1x with Cisco ACS working integrated with MS Active Directory. Always that I lose connection the Win XP get slowness in the connection attempt. Have somebody here that has adjusted this type of problem?
    Thanks.

So when you loose your connection, however that may be... And then your laptop attempts to associate, it take an abnormal amount of time only on XP and not say on windows2000?
Have you reviewd your ACS Failed attempt logs? Do you possibly have more than one ACS server configured on the AP?

  • Anyone else having slow or dropped connections in ARD admin 3.2 & Leopard?

Installed Leopard on my MBP Intel Core Duo 2.0, as an update not an A&I,
and I've had funny things happen with ARD 3.2 since. I can launch ARD,
and have it scan for my list of computers, but it seems to take either
a long time to scan, or spins and never finds the computer listing.
IF I Force Quit ARD 3.2, then re-launch, it then scrolls and starts populating
my lists, but then tells me access denied on several computers,
and others that it does find, it tells me they are are valid to connect, but
double clicking to connect causes the error " Failed to Connect to Computer XXXXXX".
Force Quitting again, and then relaunching ARD may bring full functionality
back, or may not, causing me to re-boot the whole MBP, which then seems
to fix the issue, until I quit ARD or the MBP goes to sleep.
    Then, the nightmare happens again.
I'm thinking at this point an A&I of Leopard would fix the issue, but to be sure
    any other thoughts?

I am having the same problems on a brand new Macbookpro. Installed and update ARD and the scanning is real slow and only populates a couple random computers and then finnishes.

  • Slow Airport Express connectivity

My Comcast Blast service is consistently giving me 95-99mbps download speeds and 9.99 upload speeds on ehternet. I understand wifi will be slower than this, sometimes by half. My problem is the airport express (latest model) seems to max out at 20.5 mbps download and usually acheives 9-12mbps uploads. I doubt the upload speeds are correct (who cares it is close to 10). The download speeds being only 20% of my hardwired speeds seems extreme though. The channel the wifi is running on doesn't see too crowded or anything and I cannot account for the large disparity. The item that is hardwired with ethernet is a PC with Windows 7 and everything on wifi (iPhone 5, iPhone 6, 2 ipad mini with retina displays and a 2013 MBA) all are consistent at 20up/10down on wifi.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Apple's Wireless Diagnostics may supply some additional helpful information. Run it while you're having trouble remaining connected.
To use it, hold an option key while you click your Mac's Wi-Fi icon, and choose Open Wireless Diagnostics...
The following authentication dialog will appear:
Authenticate with your Admin password, then click the Continue button in the following:
The network analysis and diagnostic tests will take several minutes to complete:
When it completes, if your wireless network is functioning properly the following will result:
If something is amiss, supposedly the results will be different and you will be presented with helpful information.
Assuming your connection is "working as expected" select Continue to summary and click Continue:
Ignore the pre-populated text field, which is provided as a place for you to type in additional information should Apple ask for it in the course of obtaining technical assistance from them. Apple has no way of knowing where your router is located in your home, and certainly doesn't know if you even have an upstairs bedroom closet.
    Click Continue.
The next step will also take a few minutes:
When it finishes, you will be presented with a summary that may or may not be useful to you:
The above result is uninteresting, but if there are additional actions for you to consider they would be included in the screenshot above.
The WirelessDiagnostics-xxx.tar.gz file deposited on your Desktop can be dragged to the Trash, or you may wish to expand it and examine its contents. It's up to you. The files in it contain extensive information about your system and are primarily intended for use by Apple in the course of troubleshooting. If you want to examine them yourself, the information I personally find most useful may be found in the file named wireless_diagnostics-nnnnnn.log where nnnnnn = some random characters. If you want to post the contents of that file here for others to examine, omit or obscure any information you might consider personal.

  • Slow speedes and connection issues within home net...

    Hi.
I have the black home hub and the white modem... So it's not the latest equipmet. I have to restart the router a couple of times a day due to the following problems......
Slow connection to the Internet and unable to play video etc.
Also I'm unable to locate my Apple TV for AirPlay as well as locate my chromecast.
I've not done any real testing apart check the wifi channels in this area and the channel I use seems the be the best option.
I'm assuming there is a problem with the BT hub, as when I reset it my iPads find the Apple TV when the BT hub has been restarted. My chromecast then also works a bit better and general web browsing may work a little better for a while.
It looks like my BT Hub is slowing my LAN down as connection is not being made to the Chromecase or the Apple TV is not found.
What do I need to do now? Can I have one of the new BT Hubs please?
    Thanks,
    Ian.

    Hi Ian_watson
Thanks for posting, that does sound like a wireless problem as restarting the hub refreshes the wireless channel but this is not recommended as the restarts may cause DLM to think there is a fault on your connection and slow it down.
Have you tried manually changing the channel and switching off smart set up in the hub manager to see if this helps?
Alternatively if you need to refresh the wireless channel try these steps instead of restarting the hub.
Enter http://bthomehub.home in your web browser
If this is the first time you have visited the Hub Manager you'll be asked to change the password.
Click on Settings and enter your password if required.
    Click on Wireless.
In the Wireless Channel section click on Refresh.
The Hub will check the wireless channels and after about a minute will have chosen the best one.
    Thanks
    Neil
