ARD Sound Question?

Hi, I have a ARD setup working from my computer at home to my editing studio, and I was planning on doing some video editing remotely. So my question is whether there is a way for the admin computer to hear the sound coming from the client computer through an internet connection ARD connection. I am able to see Final Cut running but I need to hear the client computer to edit. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
-Thanks in advance.

Sound transmitting is not a feature of ARD. You cannot do it.

  • Simple Java Sound Question...

Can I draw waveforms while capturing data? If yes, how. If no, why.
Thanks. I need the answer ASAP, please help.

    Hi nfactorial,
Can I draw waveforms while capturing data?If you would like to do that in Java you would need to know about how to use the Java language in general and especially about the Java Sound and Java2D APIs.
If yes, how.It would be too much to explain to answer such a general question. A general answer is, you need to use the Java Sound API to capture the data for which a waveform should be drawn. The Sound API delivers data as a stream of bytes typically encoded in pulse coded modulation (PCM) format. The data stream has digital samples each representing a level of sound pressure for a certain point in time. The stream of samples in the amplitude/time domain need to be transformed to a spectrum of samples in the amplitude/frequency domain, i.e. a number of PCM samples need to be mapped to the frequencies that should be displayed. This is done with the fast fourier transformation algorithm. Each set of amplitude/frequency values can then be displayed as a waveform by using some line drawing logic. The entire process would need to run constantly, i.e. as bytes are received from the sound data stream transformation and drawing is triggered.

  • Surround Sound Question

what is the best surround sound system w/ towers and that will support xbox 360, ps3 and tv all at the same time, and for the best price

    Hey themarine472,
Honestly, the answer to your question is really dependent on what you’re looking for in a home theater system.  Before anything else, you may want to ask yourself the following things:
      1)    How many speakers do I want?
    2)    What kind of connections do I need?
    3)    Do I need an upconvert DVD player?
    4)    Do I have a brand preference?
For starters, you’ll probably find that most common home theater system configurations will consist of two front channel speakers, two surround speakers, one center channel speaker and one subwoofer.  Other configurations do exist, but the difference in price between four, six and eight-speaker systems can often prove to be quite significant.  On the other hand, you aren’t necessarily limited to buying bundled packages.  Most retailers, including Best Buy®, will sell individual components so that you can pick and mix your speakers.  Keep in mind though that there is a trade-off for being able to do this: purchasing individual components often proves to be much more expensive than buying pre-packaged bundles.
Next, you’ll need to know what kinds of cables are used to connect your video game consoles to your TV.  Most newer video game consoles will make connections for audio signals using digital optical or HDMI cables, but it’s recommended to double-check yours just to be safe.  Once you know the cable types, you’ll probably want to look for a home theater system that has the same kind of inputs.  For example: if you want to use HDMI cables to connect both your PS3 and Xbox 360 to your TV, the receiver should have at least two HDMI inputs.
Then the question becomes whether you should purchase a system with an upconvert DVD player.  A good number of home theater bundles will include one of these players, which is great if you have an HDTV and want to watch older movies in a higher resolution.  The downside however, is that whenever the player itself (or one of your speakers) needs repairs, you may find yourself packing your entire home theater back up – speakers, receiver, DVD player and all – just to obtain service.
Last, but not least, having a brand preference may be able to help you guide your purchase.  After all, if everything else in your home is one brand, it might make sense to start by looking at the home theater systems offered by that same company.  Many manufacturers even offer features that enable several devices of theirs to be operated simultaneously using your TV remote, as long as they are connected using HDMI cables.
While I can’t make any specific brand recommendations myself, one of the other forum users may be able to give you some feedback regarding a model that they purchased.

  • ARD Admin Question

    Hi everyone,
I have a few clients using ARD Client (configured sucessfully).
    I have two questions:
    1) Can Clients pull up the Chat Window to initiate a Chat Session with the Admin (Me)
    2) Should I login to each Client's system using their username/password (aka user account) - or should I create a Universal Administrator UN/PW to access Clients from my ARD Admin console. And if the latter, what's the best way to do this.
    Thanks in advance

    1)
In System Prefrences, Sharing, Remote Management, Computer Settings, if you check "Show Remote Management Status in menu", then regardless if your observing them or not the user can click on the menu, and see what ARD administrators are online. they can use that menu to request to chat with said ARD admin.
On the ARD computer it pops up as a request to chat in ARD.
I seem to remember some settings in ARD for client initiated chat.
if you uncheck Show Remote managment status in menu bar, and you uncheck show when being observed. Then the client will not show the menu for remote desktop; making it much harder for a user to try and start a ARD chat.
    2)
The easy thing to do, is to have one account, witch is deticated to ARD access on every computer. That way you don't have to know every user's name, and paassowrd and you don't loose access every time a user changes their password. I keep the user name the same. For added security you could use a diffrent password for each machine; but then you need to keep track the password.

  • ARD Newbie questions

    Please pardon my silly questions:
Can the computer that I use to administer also be Managed by ARD? I'm in charge or 7 Macs including mine? Do I need to install the client software on it?
Also regarding the license, can I have ARD installed on my laptop as well as my desktop machine? I use the desktop mostly when I'm in the office and the laptop from home. Of course I would only use one or the other at any given time.

Can the computer that I use to administer also be Managed by ARD?
    Yes
Do I need to install the client software on it?
    No. it's already installed.
can I have ARD installed on my laptop as well as my desktop machine?
If you buy 2 copies, yes.

  • Very good surround sound question

Some of my instruments I use are in stereo, of course. But when mixing in surround sound, all those different speakers used are actually just outputting mono sounds, which I guess if sounds are placed properly it woud make the sound in stereo, maybe. My question is i this. Say you have a lead vocal on one track and a track with either background vocals or maybe a stereo piano. While panning in surround sound, you pan the lead vocals to the center. You pan the other track to the center, but behind the lead vocals so that it appears that the lead vocals are in front. Since surround sound mixing seems to be the art of playing sounds in positions to be picked up by different mono speakers, will the backgrounds vocals actually seem to be wider than the lead vocals or not? I can not analyze the stereo spread of the background vocals. While i was panning my background vocals and stereo piano in the stereo field, the only thing I have to analyze the stereo image was the Waves PAZ positioner plug-in and the Logic Multimeter plug-in using the Goniometer window. When I move the sound around in the surround sound paning box, there is no change in graphic representavie in either of those two plug-ins. So my guess is that eventhough my back ground vocals and pianos have a much wider stereo field then by lead vocals, I'm guessing that I'm not going to here the wider representaive. Is there a way to analyze surround sound graphically like we do stereo, or am I going to have to split my stereo sound into two mono sounds and pan them wide in the surround sound field. If you don't the answer, write back and say, "I don't know, that's a good one" If you do know, then write back.

That's certainly one technique you could use if you wanted to preserve the front stereo field only, or if you wanted to move the stereo field to a different angle. When you assign a stereo track to Surround, panned dead center, it feeds the front pair and rear pair equally. But left is still left and right is still right. Unfortunately, when you pan left or right, it's really more of a balance control. As you pan left, the right channel attenuates until it's completely gone when you pan hard left.
Normally, a stereo instrument wouldn't get panned, other than forward or back. Moving a stereo instrument angle left or right by using 2 mono files does work, but wouldn't translate well when downmixed to stereo. Fine for "surround exclusive" recordings. Watch your center channel feed. Any stereo instrument panned hard front will be mixed to mono on the center channel.
If you create audio objects for your outputs in the environment, you can easily see what's going on. Especially if you use a test stereo file with one channel blank.

    I haven't heard of this..
You might be able to stream only one speaker system at a time, but I'm not totally sure about this.
I have more HP devices than you'd expect.
1 HP TouchPad 32 GB with Android
    2 HP Touchsmarts (310-1000z and IQ527)
    2 HP Printers (J6480 and J5750)
    1 Laptop (HP DV6253CL)
Have at least some experience in each of those devices, and i'll do my best to help you.

  • X99S Gaming 9 AC sound question

I got a new headset and discovered that the sound on the mic seems to increase after I adjust it down.
And since I'm trying to keep the volum down, so background noices are less of a problem, so is that quite a dilema.
Sennheiser G4ME ONE, is the headset in question, but it should not be the headset, since it dont got any software with it.

I think it might be a problem, since it might have firmware or driver build inside...
Maybe, since the noice canceling works without a program, but I fail to see the reason for it to adjust the volum by itself.
    Win 8.1 64bit
Realtek High Definition Audio Driver 6.0.1.7293
I adjust the volum straight in the settings.
    Both front and back panel.
Havent noticed it with my other mic.

  • Locally displayed resolution of a remote ARD client question.

Hi - When I connect to a remote OSX system via ARD, am I limited to the max resolution of the client when displayed on the local system?  It seems as if I am.  There is no configuration on the local system for what resolution one wished the remote system to be displayed in.  As it is, my remote server has a 1024x768 resolution which works fine for its local display.  However, when I connect from my system which has 2 30" cinema displays, the 1024x768 is way too tiny.  I can actually go in via ARD and change the resolution up to 1600x1900, but then that's what it is set at.
You can do this in Windows by just scaling the window - this does not affect the remote system.  VMWare Fusion also allows one to recale VMs in the same way.  Does anyone know how I can set the locally displayed ARD window to be whatever I want it to be irrespective of the remote system's actual harware-set resolution?  Thanks.

    Hi Bob,
Thanks for your input. You're right I have used network streams.
I implimented more or less what I said in my original post. It works. My main objective was to keep all the config stuff, and data for the particular target on the target's SDCard. On reflection that did make my life much harder than keeping stuff on the host.
It is more (quite a lot more) involved to keep the config files on the target and send directory info etc. back to the host on demand. If I was to do this again I would probably keep the config files on the host machine and keep them in Dropbox or a Google drive so that if I had more than one host to work from (Work PC, Home PC and Laptop...) I would have all my files with little effort. Still I didn't konw that when I started.
    Thanks,
    James

  • Record & sound questions

Apart from a message appearing briefly on the top of the screen is there any visual way that the youview box shows that it is recording?
Also my TV remote & youview remote are set to different sound levels, Is it necessary to match the youview to your TV ?
    Insert code ?

I am a bit disappointed that unlike the BT Vision box the power button on the Youview Humax box doesnt change colour from blue to red when a programme is recording. A very minor gripe i know, the only indication i have noticed so far is that 'rec' lights up on the box readout in very small letters above the channel text.

  • Sound Question for K8N Neo2 Platinum

    Here's my current setup:
    AMD FX-53
    XP-120 heatsink
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum Mobo.
    1 GB Crucial Ballistix (Slots 1 & 2)
    NVidia 6800 GT 256 MB
200 GB SATA SEAGATE HDD (SATA3)
    Lite-on Dual Layer  (Model# SOHW-1633S BLK)
    Ultra X-Connect 500W PSU
I am presently using the onboard sound, and I am able to hear left and right channels of sound when using media player, winamp, etc.  I can play both music and dvds.
I'm using the optical output on my mobo, and sending it to my Sony Home Theatre amplifier with an internal 5.1 decoder.  No matter what I do, I can't seem to get 5.1 surround sound.  I set the MSI Sound effect manager Speaker configuration to 6 Speakers, and I have my CD player transmitting sound via the normal 2 pin cd rom audio cable.
Does anyone know why I cannot get 5.1 surround sound when listening to DVD's???  Do I need to connect the digital output on my DVD burner?  If so, where does it connect to the mobo?

My DVD drive didn't come with any kind of driver CD.  I'm trying to use Media Player to run the DVD's.  Is it compatible with Dolby Digital?
Has anyone ever used PowerDVD?  This software came with the DVD burner, but I haven't installed it as I don't know much about it.

  • Sound question.  Adobe Connect and MacBook Pro.

A colleague will be presenting a webinar using a MacBook Pro and I will be facilitating from our office.  This is the third in a series she is doing and we have had no problems in the past.  However, when we did our dry run yesterday I could hear her but she could not hear me.  She is currently travelling in Europe, so I tested the sound on another colleague's laptop (also a MacBook) and there were no problems.  Any ideas as to why my colleague in Europe could not hear me?  She said her speakers were on and she was not using a headset.

    Hi,
I have purchased CS3 and I have a G5 Tower and a MBP dual 2 core (bought it 2 months ago)
Let me tell you that I am very unpleased with CS3 on both machines.
On the G5 it is 10 times slower than CS1 for some reason it takes a lot of processing power and RAM wich the G5 does poorly.
On the MBP it processes fine but I only have 1 Gig of RAM and I feel that I don't have enough. Plus it doesn't help that a laptop HD is slower at opening files so it really makes it look like it runs slow...I should of bought the 24in imac instead due to the fact that it doesn't cost 900$ to buy a extra 2 Gigs of RAM
    and the HD is faster

Building a waveform from a formula requires special syntax.  The mathscript node is trying to output a 1-D array.  Rather than trying to fold your formula into something the waveform generator can understand, I recommend just building the waveform directly.
I tested it, and did not get the straight line.  Dunno if the sound is working properly, as I do not have a soundcard.
