You can still share an iTunes account for purchasing and downloading content. Just create a new Apple ID for iCloud to use for Messaging. If you try to create a new Apple ID for music and content, everything on their phone is tied to the Apple ID used for purchases, and would then require the password for that Apple ID to update. The way I described is easier.

No and no - to both questions. ooMikeoo's reply is not correct, you cannot install all Apps.
Every App in the Store lists the requirements on its page and your Touch will only install the ones it can run. Some Apps need the functions of the iPhone, so they will not work on a Touch. Some other Apps only work on the iPad, so again they will not work on your Touch, but unfortunately the Store currently lists iPad Apps together with iPhone/Touch Apps.
See *Jolly Giant's* screenshot in his (her) reply. (Sorry Jolly G - I don't know!) If it does not state iPod Touch, it will not work on your Touch and (usually) it will not install onto your Touch.
Also notice the OS version number. Your Touch needs to have the minimum version of the OS shown. Your Touch runs iPhone software - and an App may state that it requires either *iPhone OS X.X* or *iOS X.X,* which mean the same thing.
So that gives a detailed answer about your first question.
There are more Apps in the Store than you can think of - (I don't think anyone knows how many) but you can be sure that there are hundreds of Apps that will run on the Touch. I think I have 160 Apps on my Touch - and I'm fussy!

It's not the iTunes account, it's Apple ID that iMessages gets distributed.

Upgrading the OS does not remove your apps and purchases.

Library Apps are all Updated but iTunes says Updates Available

Apple could you please fix this bug? It is very very annoying and keeps coming back.
Sometimes updates on a certain iPhone or iPad get into iTunes and aren't able to update but are able to show as needing an update and there is no way to see which App is causing it.
I have 4 GB of apps in iTunes and the only workaround I know of is below but it really stinks for that many apps and it seems to happen every month or two...
1) Copy all the .ipa files in iTunes\Mobile Applications to a temporary folder.
2) Select all apps in my iTunes Library and then delete them
3) Close iTunes
4) Make sure iTunes\Mobile Applications is really all deleted
4) Open iTunes and make sure no Apps show up there either
5) Drag all the .ipa files from the temporary folder into iTunes and wait from them to install 1 by 1
6) When a warning dialog pops up saying "There is a more recent version of this.ipa that you are trying to add should i use that instead?" I have to manually click the [Yes] button (seriously why are you asking me this question?)
If you can tell which ipa is out of date while adding them then why can't you loop through them and highlight them or something so I can see which app is saying it is out of date while not being able to update at the same time.
Better yet since you are Apple give me a check box that says Automatically update all free Apps so I don't have to manage this in the first place. I have zero reason to not have the latest updates for all my Apps all the time so please just take care of it and stop asking if I want the latest and greatest. It is such a silly question. Apple is better than that.

You should be able to see which apps need updating by using the Check for updates tool in iTunes (bottom right of the Apps window) or using the Apps Store app on the device and looking at the Updates tab.
New users can't report posts, and nobody can report their own. I can report your post for removal at your request if you insist, but the general idea is that your question, and any responses it gets, may help the next person who comes along with the same problem.
BTW Sometimes updates remove features or add unwanted ones. It is rare, but there may be occasions when you want to keep an older version of an app.

Update all apps on iTunes on my laptop won't update

I have a laptop that I usually keep shutdown until I go travel.   I use iTunes for Macintosh, version 11.2.2 (3), 64 bits for both computers.
I have a desk top computer at home that is networked with the laptop through the finder and I transfer music and newly acquired apps using iTunes.
When I have the App Library open, and the Update tab set, I see that I have 200 apps to be updated.   When I selected UPDATE ALL, my laptop starts downloading apps. When the downloads are done, I see that the same apps are in the Update All window.
My internet provider warned me that I have downloaded too many Gigabites.   My internet bill is large enough, I don't want to keep downloading the same app updates and still have the apps un-updated.   I also don't want my ISP to charge me for over use.
What can I do to update the apps on my laptop.
Also, In order to keep the downloads to a minimum, I'd rather just update my desktop then transfer the updated apps to the laptop from the desktop. Is that possible.   I want the laptop to mirror the desktop with regards to music, podcasts and apps as much as possible.

That will void any support from Apple. If you take the device to an Apple store you would be able to get an out of warranty replacement. A third party shop may make things worse and end up costing you more. Apple does not sell parts so all the third party shop will be able to use are parts from damaged or stolen devices. If the third party shop cannot fix the device you will have to pay full price for a replacement phone rather than the discounted price from Apple.

"Update All Apps" in iTunes only downloads one at a time.

From Library / Apps (left pane), clicking "Update All Apps" button (bottom-right), I'm prompted for my Apple ID password, I enter it, it's accepted…and only one app update downloads. I click the button again, and the next downloads.

With some notable exceptions like audio apps that actually run in the background, most apps on the task bar are not actually running. They are not actually doing anything, just sitting there in a suspended state until the next time you execute them by bringing them up on the screen. There really is no need nor reason to be constantly clearing them away.

Missing All Apps in iTunes AND can't update iphone software

APP PROBLEM- just happened today
There are zero apps showing in my app folder all of the sudden. My phone shows that 77 updates are available, and yet, not a single app shows up in the apps folder itself. When I click "check for updates" in the app folder, again nothing.
IPHONE SOFTWARE PROBLEM- been happening for months
When I plug in my phone to update and sync it says I have software version 4.1 and "A newer version of the iphone software is available (v 4.2). Click to update" so I click "update" and then it says "This version of itunes (9.2) is the current version". Well I didn't click update itunes, i clicked update for the iphone software. So I can't update the software. I have a 2nd gen iphone.
The only change that's happened is I think I tried downloading the newest version of itunes and it said my operating system is too old for it. So, itunes 9 opens fine, my music is in there. All of my apps have disappeared and I can't update my iphone software. Please help.

Yes, I tried restarting my computer to see if they would reappear. I just checked the library on my hard drive and I can't see any applications there. They are still not coming up in the apps folder in the itunes library either.

Since you reformatted your computer and re-installed the OS, your iPod will not recognize the new library because it will still be associated with the older one. When you plug in your iPod nano, iTunes will tell you the iPod is synced with another library, and will ask you if you would like to "Erase and Sync." Otherwise, yes, everything on your iPod will be wiped off.
If you did not have your iTunes library backed up, there are several ways you can pull the music off your iPod and onto iTunes. The first link after the Apple support document below provides step-by-step instructions for the direct method if you have a PC as well as a few third party applications (for both the Mac and PC) if you choose to go that route instead. You can also do a simple Google search for "copy music from iPod to computer" and you should receive a number of sites that can help you out.
Just make sure that when you have your iPod plugged into your computer, that you don't hit "Erase and Sync" before completing the task of copying your music over.
Also, if you have any purchased music, you will probably have to re-authorize your computer by heading to the Store drop down menu and choosing "Authorize computer."

I had same problem with my 3g. It was caused by 2 different iTunes accounts. If you have 2 accts, (on your computer) sign out of your active acct and sign on again with the other acct and then try synch.

No. The iCloud storage feature is only for mobile devices. If you need more space get an external HD formatted OS X Extended (journaled) and drag your iPhoto Library to it. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and select the library on the EHD to open. Once you've confirmed that the library is OK and working properly you can delete the library from your boot driver.
However, if you don't have a backup strategy in place you should consider doing so as soon as possible. A second EHD that's about 2X the size of your boot and first EHD is needed so you can use Time Machine to make hourly backups. Remember there's only 2 type of hard drives: 1 - those that have crashed and 2 - those that will.

I dont think I explained my question v well. When I sink my iphone all the apps that are in the category of iphone, ipod and Ipad sync. I understand this however is there any way of changing the category the app is listed under so that I have a separate category for ipad and separate for iphone. Its so frustrating.
