Are all DVDs produced in 29.97?

I have footage encoded in 23.98 fps, but it seems that the final DVD will always be in 29.97. While I can easily produce a 23.98 Blu Ray, I don't see how to do so with a DVD. Any wisdom?

Also, the 29.97 FPS is for NTSC, and it's 25 FPS for PAL.
BD offers more options. See this FAQ Entry for the allowed specs.
Good luck,

Try a hard reset:- hold the home button AND the power switch - ignore the red "Slide to power off" and wait ubntil the iPhone powers down, and then restarts - at the Apple logo, release all the buttons and see if your contacts reappear.

  • All DVDs are "Damaged?"

I have a first generation, 1.83 Ghz MacBook with a DVD/CDRW drive. Just in the last month, it seems to think all DVDs are damaged. I got the "skipping over damaged part" when watching a new movie, even though it works fine in every other DVD player I own. I needed to reinstall Leopard, and had to go to an external drive--it kept dieing on me. Likewise, an install of X-Plane took multiple attempts.
Any suggestions on what can be done?
The computer is 16 months old, so it is out of warrantee. I also hate to give it up for an extended period.

I recently bought a used (though superficially pristine) MacBook which exhibited the exact symptoms described here. I used a can of computer cleaning air to clean any potential dust off the lens in the drive. I used the long, skinny tube that comes with the can, inserted only far enough to get past the brushes that cover the door. I aimed three short "sprays" one at 90 degrees (in the center of the opening) and one at each side (about a 45 degree angle to the centerline). Since this time, the drive has worked perfectly. YMMV...just be sure not to insert the tube too far.

  • Recently I bought a Mac book pro online, but I was surprised when I received it because there are no DVDs at all with it. Is this normal?

Recently I bought a Mac book pro online, but I was surprised when I received it because there are no DVDs at all with it. Is this normal?

    Ziatron-
That is a really great question! It took some digging to find the answer!
On an older Mac, about 2010 or older, you need access to one of:
    • The Mac App Store ( such as on a Mac with a working 10.6.8 or better)
    • working Recovery HD
    • a bootable 10.7 Installer, on thumb drive, Hard drive, or DVD
So for ONE 2010 or older Mac with a bad drive, you would have to buy the US$70 Apple thumb drive, or have previously made a DVD or Hard Drive when you previously downloaded 10.7. Or you re-install 10.6.8 then overwrite it with the downloaded 10.7.
    • another Mac with 10.7 installed so you could transfer Recovery HD to the down Mac with "Lion Recovery Disk Assistant"
OS X Lion: About Lion Recovery Disk Assistant
On some 2010 and most 2011 models, if Recovery HD is messed up or not Installed, but you have a working Broadband connection [with DHCP enabled], the Firmware has been upgraded so it will boot from the Internet and do the whole job using "Lion Internet Recovery" as described in the second section of this glossy article:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/recovery/
If no DHCP is available [no Router upstream, either yours or your ISP's], it may not work.

  • CD/DVD drive does not read all DVD formats and regions

    Hi
My Teac-dw-224e-a does not read all DVDs formats and regions.
It does read CDs but no DVDs at all.
Not DVD-R and not even regular DVDs. I have checked the region of the DVD.
I have reinstalled the driver and also tried with different software.
    What can I do?
    Please help!

    Hi
It is possible that your DVD drive has wrong region settings.
In this case it is not able to watch all possible DVD movies from different regions.
Of course you can change the settings 4 times. But after this changing the settings are fixed and its not possible to change it anymore.

  • My MacBook Pro retina 2013 won't charge. I've checked all connections which are all ok. Little red light shows on magnetic plug, instead of usual green.

My MacBook Pro retina 2013 won't charge. I've checked all connections which are all ok. Little red light shows on magnetic plug, instead of usual green.

If you are seeing a Red LED, you may have a faulty MagSafe Adapter.
I remember reading that the orange light is produced by a combination of a Red and Green LED. If that's the case, It seems that the adapter isn't lighting the green LED properly at that time.
I would suggest you seek service with your nearest Genius Bar (Apple Retail Store) or Apple Authorised Service Provider as they have access to diagnostics which may assist in isolating any hardware issues you may be experiencing.
    Cheers.

  • Video images are garbled and colors are all run together

Just got a new computer and downloaded newest version of quicktime. I can't watch any videos/webcasts etc. The sound is fine and the video plays but the screen is "garbled" and the colors are all off/run together?
I can play a dvd fine
Dont know much about computers and Dell would not help me....any ideas?

I am having a similar problem and tried the same fix and it did not work for me either. In my case the video plays for a few seconds then get choppy but the audio is fine. Someone on this site suggested that my machine does not have enough to play the H.264 codec. I do have an older machine a compaq 1.20 GHz , 512 MB Ram running XP home sp2. It should be able to run a video. After all I am not on a 486 machine. I finally had to back out of the QT 7.1.6 and currently running QT 6.5.2. It works fine for me at least at this point. But of course now that means I cannot look at videos using the latest format.

  • "skipping over damaged area" on DVD player

I keep getting this message while trying to play DVD's. Is this a problem with the drive or with Leopard?

    Hi benrmay18,
Unfortunately, this is a user-to-user discussion board so no one from Apple is going to respond directly to your inquiry. Do all DVDs give you this error message or only specific ones? Have you tried movie DVDs or data DVDs?
If ALL DVDs are giving you this error message it's probably worth bringing the machine into an AASP or Genius Bar for additional diagnosis. It's possible that the drive (or the laser in the drive) is the problem.

  • Can't play all DVDs

I have a SONY DVD RW DW-U10A in my imac 17". It won't play all DVDs films brought frm shops. Most of them won't play and others just crash at the same time on each disc. I know all the disc are alright as they work on other machines. My disc drive reads other types of cds and dvds fine. what is going on

    Hi,
    I found this fantastic guide:
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/
which has a step by step instructions with detailed pictures for replacement of many MacBook parts. I followed optical drive replacement one, after which I simply opened optical drive (required to remove warranty sticker!) and used cotton bud and alcohol, cleaned the lens.

  • Bootcamp woes, unable to boot from USB and DVD drive reads all DVDs blank

My partner and I are completely unable to install Windows using Bootcamp.  We have tried dozens of solutions on the internet.
2011 iMac (purchased in by me and my partner 2012) reads all DVDs as blank.  We have (hilariously) another Mac, an MBP, that has the same exact problem.  You'd almost think "Superdrives" eventually just stop working or something.  So obviously we can't install Bootcamp on the iMac using a DVD.
But what about a USB stick?  Well after modifying the plist file and writing a bootable Windows USB and trying to boot from that, we were greeted with the mysterious and apparently yet-unsolved "no bootable device" error.
So our iMac can't boot from USB drives or read DVDs.  We've only owned it for two years.  And this is the second Mac we've owned where the Superdrive has died.  And we don't even use DVDs more than like once a year.
But anyway, can someone tell me what we're supposed to do if we want to install Windows aside from throwing money away to buy another Superdrive that is probably going to die again in a year?  Maybe a way to make our mac boot from our USB stick?  Something?
    Thanks.

Should you have another drive with a MBR, use it to rule that issue out. Alternatively create a GPT on the flash drive and try to boot from it.
What options are there for the usb controller/boot priorities/order/options? Does the laptop recognize the usb flash when already in bios setup? Should there be any form of choosing the device to boot, use that with the flash drive in the socket, then switch it with the external drive.

  • Trying to update iMac G5 with OS X Snow Leopard and unable due to no Intel proccesor. Are all new upgrades going to be unavailable? What is the last available upgrade?

I'm trying to update my parent's iMac G5 with OS X Snow Leopard and unable to do so because it doesn't have an Intel processor. Are all new upgrades going to be unavailable? What is the last available upgrade? Is it possible to get an Intel processor installed?
    Thank you
    Lindsay

Actually you can upgrade to snow leopard.  I have an iMac G4 and upgraded to snow leopard by installing it using an external DVD RW drive.  It was complicated but it worked.  I ended up going back to using tiger though.  I liked it better the simple old school way.

  • All DVD's eject automatically

    Hi
All DVD's are ejecting after few seconds. Macbook white 13".
    Thanks

    Mac OS X 10.6 Help
If you have trouble inserting a CD or DVD
If you can’t insert a CD or DVD, or if the disc is ejected after you insert it, there are several things you can try.
    Try these suggestions:
Clean the disc. The drive may eject a disc if it’s dirty.
To clean a CD or DVD, wipe the shiny surface with a soft, damp cloth, working from center to edge.
Check the surface of the disc for scratches. If it’s scratched, it may be unreadable.
Try using the disc in another drive to see if the disc can be read.
Try to insert another disc in the drive. If you can insert other discs, the disc you originally tried to insert may be damaged.
Check whether the optical drive is plugged in and turned on. Refer to the documentation that came with the drive for more information.
If you’re using a MacBook Air SuperDrive, connect it directly to a MacBook Air. It won’t work correctly if it’s connected to any computer other than a MacBook Air, or if it’s connected to a hub.
When handling discs, be careful not to leave fingerprints, place other materials on the discs, or add labels to the discs that may cause them to become unbalanced when spinning. Don’t write on the shiny side of the disc. Instead, write on the side that has a label or other text.

    Cricket,
your iMac is years newer than the ones this forum covers and has a different optical drive. You would be best served by starting a new thread in teh forums for the Intel iMacs here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=189
Make a new post; tagging onto an existing one dilutes the help both you and the original poster can get. If you are having trouble figuring out how to start a new thread, please refer to this article:

If the computer is new, you should take it in so the problem is documented by Apple as soon as possible.
