Are all features available in Power BI for office 365 available in On-Premise Excel, SQL server etc

Are all features available in Power BI for office 365 available in On-Premise Excel, SQL server etc
Thanks
Nate

No. The tools used to create Power BI reports are available in the on premises versions:
Power Query
Power Pivot
Power Map
Power View
To take advantage of these in a PowerBI site, or to use Q&A you need a subscription to Office365 with a PowerBI license.

  • Not received promotional code when registered for "Microsoft Power BI for Office 365 preview!"

    Hi,
I have registered for "Microsoft Power BI for Office 365 preview!" and received the welcome mail from Microsoft Office 365 <[email protected]>
But their is nowhere mention of any promotional code
Further as per the steps given in the welcome mail I created the unique tenant for Power BI and now provisioning Power BI for office 365. Here as per the snapshot provided in the provisioning document I am not able to see the specific license
i.e "Microsoft Power BI for Office 365" which I have to assign to my tenant. Instead I see the License "Microsoft Office 365 Plan E3". Is this acceptible?
Further i have assigned this license (Microsoft Office 365 Plan E3) and added Power Bi app to the Site Contents
Now when I try to open Power Bi app to open the reports I have uploaded to office 365, I get the following error
    *********Error**************
No Power BI for Office 365 License
Looks like you do not have a user subscription license for Power BI for Office 365.
Want to find out what you're missing?
Learn more about Power BI for Office 365.
     Here are a few ideas:
Please ask your Office 365 admin to assign you a user subscription license for Power BI for Office 365.
If you have a different account, try signing in with that account.
It will be great help if anyone can help me resolve this issue?
    Thanks in Advance!

My userID is : [email protected]
After I registered, I got a welcome email with a url to login from office 365. Url is - https://portal.microsoftonline.com/admin/default.aspx.
I am able to login successfully. But I am not able to see the Power BI option anywhere after I login.
Please suggest me If I miss something. Your help is really appreciated.

  • No Power BI for Office 365 License???

    Hi,
we have installed the free Power BI SharePoint App. We have assigned the free license to two users.
It now says correctly that we have 999998 of 1000000 licenses left. So far, so good :-)
But...when I click "Power BI" in the left navigation pane, the App seems to start but then:
"Keine Power BI für Office 365-Lizenz
Sie besitzen anscheinend keine Benutzerabonnementlizenz für Power BI für Office 365."
Which means in english: "No Power BI for Office 365 License...You don't have a user subscription license for Power BI for Office 365".
But we do have assigend the license to these two users!
Anybody have an idea what I can do?
We would even pay for Power BI but there is no link where we can buy the full license?
    Thanks
    Malte

I have the same problem as Jamie
I added Power BI to my E4 subscription.  However, when trying to access Power BI link on the left side of the screen, i get "No Power BI for Office 365 License" ask your admin.
I'm one of the office 365 admins and have a license assigned to myself already. I have deleted the app and re-added it with no luck so far.
Can you help please and suggest how to fix this?
Thank you so much in advance for your help

  • Public API for - Power BI for Office 365

    Hello,
Where could I find the Public API for - Power BI for Office 365? Is there any related documents?
    Thanks,

    Paul,
    The APIs at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/powerbi/dn874029.aspx only
seem to work for the new Power BI and not Power BI for Office 365. Am I correct in saying this?
Can I find an API for Power BI for Office 365?

  • Can Power Map publish to Power BI for Offcie 365, and how...?

I've try to publish workbook containing Power Map tour to Power BI for Offcie 365, I get nothing...
So Power Map is only work  on-premise? Any plan to view Power Map tour in Power BI for Office 365?
    AsiaMiner, CTO

    Hello,
I can confirm that the current version of Power Map does not feature Office 365 integration with Power BI. It is on-premise only for now, and we are planning for Office 365 integration in the future.
In the meantime, you might consider exporting your Power Map tours to video or capturing Power Map scenes and sharing those on your Office 365 site.
    I hope this helps!

  • Power View in Office 365 vs. Power View in SharePoint

    Hi all,
I am trying to find the best method to get PowerView reports into Dynamics AX. So far, I've simply created a form as ActiveX and navigated to the link to the excel file, but this is not desirable. I read that it is possible to have them embedded into Role
Centers/Enterprise Portal, but I need to have PowerView in "SharePoint" mode.
What are the differences between SharePoint mode and Office 365? Is there no way to export the PowerViews to PowerPoint or as Menu Items from Office 365?
Also, any information or tips on integrating PowerViews/Power BI with Dynamics AX would be great!
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Hi Mark,
Power View comes in two different flavors:
    1. Power View as an Excel add-in (free with Excel 2013 Professional Plus)
If you have Office 365 with Power BI enabled, you can create visualizations(Charts etc) in Excel using Power View and publish them to a Power BI site which lets you share, view, and interact with reports. At the time of this posting, there is no way
to export a Power View Report (created in Excel) to Power Point.
    2. Power View, as a Reporting Services(SSRS) Add-in for SharePoint Server(Enterprise Edition).
If you don't have Office 365(with Power BI), you can still publish Power View reports(created in Excel) to an on-premise SharePoint site. You can definitely
Export a report from Power View in SharePoint to PowerPoint
Integration with Dynamics AX - There are several options for integration and here is one of them.
    1. Use Power Query to Discover all the data you need from Dynamics AX (SQL Server database),
Transform and Mashup the data. Create a data model in Power Pivot and then use Power View to create your visualizations and publish them to either an on-premise SharePoint environment or to a Power BI site in Office 365.
I have a Dynamics AX client and they wanted to use Power View. They have a Data Warehouse built on top of their AX database and an SSAS cube (Multidimensional) on top of their Data Warehouse. Since they don't have an Enterprise instance of SharePoint, we
extracted all the data from the Data Warehouse into a Power Pivot model, then used Power View(the Excel add-in) to create the visualizations.
Please take a look at this technet article
Microsoft Dynamics AX integration with Power BI for Office 365
Hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Just subscribed to CC for educators and my apps are all working as trials and asking for for a key.
I had a trial before subscribing yet even after logging in with my email which is used for the CC account I continue to get a count down or an expression for applications who should already be unlocked.
How do I go about correcting this? Uninstalling and reinstalling has not made a difference.
I'm able to log into my adobe account and get promoted "You're already subscribed to the Creative Cloud Student and Teacher edition (one-year)" when prompted to "BUY" by the app

    There is no billing issue.
The CC does not needs any serial number, it is based on Adobe ID.
In case you are being asked for serial number then you can refer to.

  • Adding Licenses for Office 365 Pro Plus and Power BI

Hello. I have one license for Office 365 Pro Plus and one Power BI license. I want to buy another Power BI license to assign to a prospective client so he can log on to my Power BI site and view Power Pivot reports in the browser. I think that I need to
purchase an additional Office 365 Pro Plus license ($12/mo) as well as an additional Power BI license ($40/mo). Is this correct?
My other question has to do with what I believe is referred to as my Organizational account. I have one for Office 365 and a different one for Power BI. That is, my logins are different for the two subscriptions. I'm not sure how this happened or even if
it's important. I have had no issues installing Office 365 on my desktop, laptop and tablet and I can upload files to my Power BI site and access them. Does it matter that my organizational accounts are different?
Finally, if I have it correct in paragraph 1 that I need an additional license for both Office 365 Pro Plus and Power BI, do I just login to the two separate organizational accounts and add a license to each one?
    Thank you.
    Regards
    Arthur

Hi Guy. I went ahead and purchased both licenses. The Office 365 is only $12/mo so it's not a big deal.
After getting that great information from you on the other post, I contacted Microsoft support and got this issue straightened out. I did have two accounts (domains). They had me cancel my Office 365 subscriptions on the account that I purchased those subcriptions
on and then resubcribed to Office 365 on the Power BI account.
Thanks again for all of your help.

  • Remaining Installs Available on Project Pro for Office 365

    Hello All,
I downloaded a demo version of Project Pro for Office 365 as I am looking to test/implement the software in my company. I have looked everywhere on the internet to solve my issue but I am unlucky, and therefore I am kindly asking your guidance on my issue.
I am looking forward to install Project Pro, but I am only limited to install up to 5 users on my login. What is this limitation, and is there any way around it. My company setup is quite simple, I want to able to install 10 Project Pro for Office 365 licenses
on 10 manager desktops, and I would like to link the primary account (1 licencse) to Project Online for portfolio management and other related PMO services.
Am I doing it wrong? is there any other alternative to my situation?
We already have MS Project 2007 installed in the system, but we are looking to have more collaboration and sharing services between users. Any other PM offering from Microsoft is welcome.
    Thank you very much

  • Power BI Add-On for Office 365 Promo SKU

I have a customer who is trying to purchase the Power BI Add-on for Office 365 but is unable to do so without adding additional Office 365 licenses first. This customer already owns 1,000 Office 365 E3 licenses purchased some time ago based on an existing
promotion at the time.  Any insight as to what the reason might be behind this?
    Thank you for your help.

There is currently an issue where add-ons can not be purchased for pre-paid base offers. This might be the issue depending on what the original E3 promotion was. I'd recommend contacting Customer Support for assistance.

  • PowerShell for Office 365 is here – here's how to use it

    Hi, almightywiz,
Sorry for the delayed response. I was away from office for one day and did not have access to the files.
And you are right, column 11 is text and column 26 is date (i.e., numeric). And indeed, those visually blank cell in column 11 are not null but have zero length. Java can tell the difference but not by visually inspecting the cells in the spreadsheet.
I also checked the POI API documents, and found that org.apache.poi.ss.usermodel.Cell interface, which has those cell types, is implemented by both HSSFCell and XSSFCell. The question is under what condition the cell type of a cell becomes Cell.CELL_TYPE_BLANK.
While that is not yet clear, I will catch cells missing data in column 11 by checking three things: first check if(cell == null), then if(cell.getCellType() != Cell.CELL_TYPE_STRING), and then if(cell.getStringCellValue().length() == 0). And that solves my problem.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience and solving my problem.
I have another problem that may more serious, at Can I process Excel BIFF5 files, or simply abandon Apache POI? It would be very much appreciated if you had time to look at it.
    Best regards,

  • How to install Project Online and Project Pro for Office 365

    Hello,
Can someone please explain where can I find reliable and exploitable step by step process to install
Project Online and Project Pro for Office 365. I tried for several weeks with no avail.
All the links I followed led to
    an impasse.
    Thanks for your help

    WLID1966,
I am not sure if there is a step by step process detailed anywhere, but that possible because it is fairly easy to get started. The steps below may vary sligtly because I am using a preview version..
    1) you would sign up for Project Pro for Office 365 from this link (or pursue through your organization) : http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/project/enterprise-project-and-portfolio-management-subscription-project-online-with-project-pro-for-office-365-FX104002972.aspx
    2) Once you are setup with Office 365 account and project online, you would go into the settings as shown below
    3) Once you click on software, you should see the below, and then click Install to install Project Pro.

  • Building the case for Office 365!

Have you noticed that the pace of technology is evolving so rapidly that we struggle to remember a time when we didn’t rely on our smart phones, laptops or tablets and the applications that are available on these devices; email, video conferencing, instant messaging? Although it may seem that we should be even more efficient as we’re always connected no matter how remote we are, I’m sure you’ll agree this is not always the case. Having multiple platforms and operating systems that are not unified together could actually be making us less productive, especially when communications look set to rise with the prediction that in 2018 we’ll be seeing average email traffic of 227.7 emails a day*. This is where the benefits of unified communications can really shine through. Did you know that Eclipse can work with you to create a solution that...

It is my understanding that Dashboards will augment, not replace Power BI in Office 365. That is to say that in order to use the dashboards feature, you won't require Office 365. If you have it, however, you'll be able to use dashboards in addition to the
capability that you already see. It also won't require Excel, but will continue to work with it.
If you look carefully, you'll see that the current incarnation of Power BI runs almost completely outside of Office 365 at URLs like xxx.powerbi.com.
    Hope this helps.
