Are *all* of my photos in iCloud?

Hi,
I have just over 13,000 photos in iPhoto. I have Photos checked in System Preferences->iCloud(see below).
Is there a way I can ensure that all of my photos are safely backed up in iCloud? Do I have to do something specific to make that happen?
Thank you in advance!
BT

My main concern is fire and/or theft.
I keep an additional backup drive in my office at my place of work. You could also simply store an additional backup drive outside your home or in your car. So, if your house should burn down or the a burglar steels your mac, you will still have the backup drive outside the house.
But iCloud Photo Library, that mende1 mentioned,  will be available soon. It already works for the mobile devices with iOS 8, and is currently beta tested for Photos.app on Yosemite.  You will soon be able to move your whole iPhoto Library to iCloud, but it will be a paid service, if the 5GB free iCloud storage do not suffice for your library.

  • How do I move all my ipad photos to icloud? .

How do I move all my ipad photos to icloud? Since the last software update none of my ipad pictures upload to the cloud. i just want to empty all the picture to the cloud and free up the ipad.

You turn iCloud Photo Library on in Settings > iCloud > Photos. However it doesn't "empty" the pictures to the cloud. The most you can do to free up space using iCloud is to turn on Optimize Storage to keep a smaller device-sized version of the photos on your iPad. See the quote below from iCloud Photo Library FAQ - Apple Support
Can I use iCloud Photo Library to save space on my device?
iCloud Photo Library automatically keeps all your photos and videos in the original, high-resolution version. Follow these steps to choose how you store your photos and videos on your device:
In iOS, tap Settings > iCloud > Photos or Settings > Photos & Camera, then select a storage setting.
In OS X, click Photos > Preferences > iCloud, then select a storage setting.
If you turn on Optimize [device] Storage, iCloud Photo Library will automatically manage the size of your library on your device, so you can make the most of your device's storage and access more photos than ever. All of your original, full-resolution photos and videos are stored in iCloud while device-size versions are kept on your device. You can download the original photos and videos over Wi-Fi or cellular when you need them.
If you turn on Download Originals, iCloud Photo Library will keep your original, full-resolution photos and videos in iCloud and on your device. Download Originals is the default setting for iOS devices with the free 5 GB storage plan and for all Mac devices.

  • Where are all of my photo albums?

I just updated my computer & found that Iphoto is now gone & that Photos has replaced it. Where are all of my photo albums that I spent so much time organizing in Iphoto now? I can't find them anywhere in Photos. It's a very badly, designed system!

    Hi Eric,
Thank you for taking the time to respond.
I have a time capsule doing automatic backups on my iMac.  I would not know which date to restore from as I just happened to notice the missing mail when I went to look for one of the old messages.
I tried your suggestion of checking the Mail/V2 files in finder, but it did not work.  There are messages there, but they too only go back a year.
If you have any other suggestions, please let me know.

  • I should know, but I don't. If I upload all of my photos to iCloud and then delete them off of my iPhone (for more storage space), will they all remain in iCloud or am I missing the point of iCloud?

Right now, there is no way to upload and access photos in iCloud. You need to import them to a computer if you want to be able to retrieve them later:

  • Where are all the phantom photos located?

I am using iPhoto 5. I delte photos, or edit photos. My iPhoto albums reflect the changes. I am using my photos as a screem saver. The photos I deleted or edited keep coming up on my screen. Where are they and how do I get rid of them?
    Deanna

    Deanna,
Instead of using the iPhoto Library folder by choosing that folder within the screensaver preference pane...within iPhoto, choose and album or highlight the library in the source column and then click the screensaver icon in the toolbar.
You now will only get the edited photos and the originals that you have not edited for the screensaver.
The originals of the edited photos will not show up in the screensaver this way.
If you still want to get rid of the originals of the edited photos, use this program but read all the info on the site first.
To get back some of the space your iPhoto Library is taking up on your hard drive you can use http://pages.cpsc.ucalgary.ca/~fuhrer/personal/freestuff/iphotodiet/iPhoto Diet
    Quoted from the web site:
iPhoto Diet is a utility that helps to slim down your iPhoto library by manipulating your photos in the following ways:
*eliminate duplicate photos created internally by iPhoto or imported by yourself
*remove iPhoto's backups of rotated or modified photos
*strip the thumbnail icons of your photos
*remove thumbnail photos that have become mixed up with your high resolution photos
*identify photos which have not been added to albums
weed out unnecessary folders and files from the library
    and more!
I suggest you read through the entire page because it expalins what iPhoto does and how it does it.
If you say to yourself "I can go through the originals folders right in the Finder and get rid of the images I no longer want" then you need to read On iPhoto 5, Originals, and GUI Scripting which will explain what happens if you do it yourself.

  • Where are all of my photos?

Only 9 of my roughly 3500 JPEG photos have moved from Photoshop to Revel. Where are my photos??

This link may help regarding starter edition:
Photoshop Album Starter Edition support withdrawal FAQ
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/photoshop-album-starter-edition-support.html
Only files in Photoshop.com were migrated so if you did not have files there then nothing would migrate to Revel.

  • I don't want all my my photos on iCloud

I am saddened by the way in which Apple is now prompting a change in Photo storage, encouraging valued customers to start paying additional fees for using Cloud Based Servers (that I personally don't trust)!
In the past I had used Aperture for my professional Archives, making use of iPhoto for personal albums. Now with the new 'Photo' App. it would appear the default is going to encourage images to be stored and shared on the Cloud.
I had been delighted to change from Microsoft after years of frustration, witnessing the disappearance and loss of support for Windows software programmes. Apple as the worlds largest and most successful company are now forcing me to abandon my own preferences in file storage.
What are other professional users doing with regards image archival programming?

I think there is a difference between "default" and "forcing."

  • Where do old calendar entries go? They are all gone since i installed icloud...

Where do old calendar entries go? They where always on my ipod. But ever since I installed icloud most of my old entries are gone, except for birthdays and other repeated entries. Is there a way to get these old entries back? Or can you find them somewhere on icloud?

  • I have multiple iphones at my business that we take photos with and upload to one icloud account.  Is there anyway to tell the difference between the phones?  I tried the info tab but they are all iphone 4's?

I have multiple iphones at my business that we take photos with they are all uploaded to the same icloud account.  Is there anyway to tell which phone the photo came from?  The info tab doesn't help because they are all iphone 4's.

NNot with the regular MY Photo Stream. You could use individual Shared Photo Streams instead for each iPhone, if the iOS versions support shared streams. upload to a shared stream is not automatic however. You will have to share them manually.

  • My computer has not updated my photo to icloud since April 4.  Why?

Why has my computer not updated the current pictures on icloud since April 4, 2015?

Hi. I just saw your post so checked my photos in iCloud and found that the last uploads were March 20th.
Earlier today, I updated my iPad Air to IOS 8.3.   I disconnected from iCloud, then logged in again under the Control Panel, Settings, iCloud.  I then clicked the Photos icon under it and under iCloud Photo Library (turned on) it listed Uploading 605 photos (currently reading Uploading 60 photos as I write this).  Now it has finished as it now reads "Updated Just Now".
Re-checking iCloud Photos in iCloud, they are all now ("605 photos and videos") with the latest photos dated April 7, 2015 (the same as my iPad), so the sync seems to be working properly now.  Out of interest, I use Waterfox Version 36.0.4 (this is the 64-bit version using the same Mozilla base as Firefox) which is not listed as supported, but appears to work fine for me.
    Hope this helps?

  • Delete photos from icloud

With the new photos app, I have attempted to make the switch to storing all of my photos in icloud/photos. Previously I had my older photos stored elsewhere whilst my newer photos were stored in iphoto.
Over the past couple of weeks i have been uploading my 100gb photos database to icloud whilst importing my older photos. I was also organising them into new albums instead of the old iphotos events.
What has happened though is that icloud hasnt synced correctly, and there seems to be a mishmash of the old organisation with the new. There also seems to be a disconnect between how many photos have uploaded in icloud vs how many are present in photos on the mac.
I think the best option would be to delete the photos in icloud and then re-upload my photos library, as that contains the photos and structures i want.
Is there an easy way to do this?
I have disconnected both my phone and mac from icloud photos at the moment.

Try turning off Photo Stream in Settings > iCloud > Photo Stream.
    Reset your device.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Turn Photo Stream back on from Settings.
Make sure Wi-Fi is turned on. Settings > Wi-Fi
Now try the instructions here >  iCloud: Photoho Stream Troubleshooting

  • HT4847 Photos on icloud

My phone says my pictures are using most of my icloud.  when i try to manage it the only option I get is (backup camera roll on/off). Are all of my pictures on icloud? And if so how do I see which ones so I can manage them?

Thank you very much for the reply, it currently says I am using 4.5 GB from photos and I only have 144 picture on my camera roll I have had more on there in the past but have taken them off thats why I wondered if there was another place that icloud stores them so I could see what they kept for me?

  • HT201317 Accidently turn off the photo stream on my iPhone. How do I recover all my old photos in the photo stream?

I accidently the. Off photo stream and then when I turn it back on all the old photos were gone. How can I recover my all the previous photos?

iCloud only keeps photo stream photos for 30 days, even though a rolling collecting of up to 1000 photos will stay on your devices until deleted (such as by turning off photo stream).  These photos can't be recovered because they are no longer in iCloud.  If they were in your camera roll when you last backed up, restoring the backup should recover them; otherwise there gone.
In the future, to save them permanently, be sure to import them to your computer while they are still in the camera roll as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.  If they aren't in the camera roll, save them to the camera roll by tapping Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll.  Then they can be imported to your computer.

You should call Apple Support and give them your Apple ID so that they can verify how many photos you actually do have backed up in iCloud...
Also, are you able to do an iTunes backup at all? Because that would save all of the photos and allow you to get them onto the new device.
