Are apple loops copyright protected?

If for example i use a sample in the apple loops folder, im not talking guitar lines im talking sound effects or software instruments, am i breaching copyright if i were to release a song that included these?
thanks

You can use the loops and sound effects in your own work, only not re-distribute them:

  • Apple Loops rights

An other Apple Loops copyright question:
Let's say I use some Apple Loops in a 5 min contest video in order to sell it to the contest host (So he has a reference for this years contest). Might be uploaded on youtube + their site.. Would that be a problem?
    Description of usage:
I have two Apple Loops and one of my own samples playing on and off, but the two Apple Loops have more playtime and they're at a low volume when people speak and such which is for the most part of the video. They fade out come in again etc.
These two audio files (Apple Loops) including my own sample, have nothing done to them other than being mixed and arranged in one track.
Other than that, no further self compositions added. And if it makes any difference, my own sample is played in the middle of the video.
So, one Apple Loop in the beginning section mine in the middle and another Apple Loop at the end section.
Is this to repackage them as music beds (Illegal)?
Or is the "soundtrack" original (Am I cleared)?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Can Not Find Apple Loops files that came with Logic 7

I recently reinstalled my system and upgraded to leopard but am still running Logic 7.
My problem is that all of the apple loops that came with the application are no longer accessable for some reason.
I can view all of the loops in the loop browser, but any time I click on one to preview, it comes up with this error message: "Club Dance Beat 038.caf" - what kind of file is this?" It seems like all of the files are .caf.
When I search my system to try and find the loops, I cant find any loops that seem to go with logic. There are apple loops for garage band and soundtrack pro but not logic.
Can anyone help me in accessing my apple loops for logic? Shouldnt these things just come with the application when I install it? That does not seem to be the case here for whatever reason.
    thanks much

Your "problem" is that you now own the Garageband Loops, which are in the new .caf format.
Your version of Logic cannot open these files.
These .caf files were introduced with Logic 8. You would do good to upgrade Logic, if you really need to use those files.
    Cheers

  • HT200183 If I wanted to include apple loops in the assets of Logic project folders that are part of a tutorial available for download on a paid educational website would that be ok?

If I wanted to include apple loops in the assets of Logic project folders that are part of a song that follows a tutorial available for download on a paid educational website would that be ok? No one would be paying for the file itself that's part of the membership. I don't want to get into any copyright problems. I understand that they are royalty free and you can include them in your music no problem but the individual loops would be in the audio folder if I saved all the assets to the project file.
Also, would it be ok to include screen shots I take myself of apple programs in my downloadable content?
Just trying to figure out exactly how I should go about it to avoid any legal issues.

My gut reaction is that you may well run into © issues if you re-distribute the original AppleLoops. If your customers are paying for the training, they are also paying for the content you provide, so I feel that you would be re-selling the loops.
Given that anyone who has a copy of Logic would likely have installed all the loop content, there should be no need to distribute them with the project files. Alternatively, make your own loops.

  • All drum loops in LE 8 are greyed out and Apple loops utility 'can't be installed'

    Hi
I installed Logic Express 8 and have loads of loops missing, especially the drum loops.
Even the Apple loops utility is giving me problems. It looks like the Apple loops utility was installed (because I have the icon for it now), but everything inside that utility is greyed out. When I try to re-install it, i get the error message 'Apple Loops Utility can’t be installed on this computer. The specified message could not be found for the index 0.'
    I have a new MAC Mini OS X 10.6.7
    Help would be appreciated.
UPDATE: I have looked through other related discussions here but could not find the naswer.
I also just checked in /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/User Loops to see if the files are  there and of course they are not.
In fact, funnily enough, there are 0 files in the apple loops (although I do have plenty of loops that do play in LE8, just not the drum loops), which is strange. Where are all the files?????
I also found the following interesting point in the discussions here:
'The standard installation doesn't install all the loops. You'll have to do a custom installation and check the GB extras.'
The problem is that I am never given any option to do a custom installation when I install. It only offers the normal installation mode.

    Hi,
    1. On the newer Macs, iLife 11 or so, only a part of the loops is being installed, and the other part must be downloaded via software update. GB will tell you so if you select a greyed out loop.
    2. Loops should all be in "(your HD)/library/audio/apple loops/apple", not in the user library.
    3. If you find the loops are installed there but aren't shown in LE or in GB, you might want to re-index the loops.
    4. If loops are still missing after re-indexing, drag the loops folder straight above your loop browser and drop them there - this should add the missing loops.

  • Apple loops are greyed out

okay first off, if you try to give me a link to other FAQs it will not help as i have searched them already, only to find that they have helped me not in the least...
    here is my problem
    1. i make a new project 2. i go to the show loops in browser 3. when i go to the browser where the loops are they are there but greyed out 4. when i try to click on them it says "The Software instrument or Apple Loop selected is not currenlty installed on your computer. Would you like to install the complete set of GarageBand instruments and loops?" 5. i click yes to download now 6. it check for updates and then says your software is up to date 7. i try again and still the loops are greyed out.
at this point i am extremely mad and decided to look online for help
i followed some FAQs and decided to locate my loops folder which low and behold
EXISTS!! i decide to play the loops in quicktime and turns out they are working fine all 501 of them.
So why the DARN doesnt garageband recognize that these loops are installed and on mymac?
    Please help

no man!! did you even read my post i said dont give me links!!!

    which would be very lame

  • Apple Loops Are Gone, But Still In Folder

All my apple loops have disappeared from Logic Pro, as well as a lot of plugin presets.
However they're still in the "/Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/" folder in the following folders
    Apple Loops For Soundtrack Pro
    iLife Sound Effects
    Jam Pack 1
    Jam Pack Remix Tools
However Re-indexing the loops inside of Logic doesn't re-index them and can't find any loops.
Any suggestions? Would there be like a cache file I have to delete or something?
This happened around the time of the 9.1 update

Maybe your Spotlight index is corrupt or disabled for the drive where the files are? People have ben running to this problem when disabling Spotlight. Try reindex using a program called OnyX. Maybe there is other ways to do this.

  • I have GarageBand for iPad 2 and noticed that there are far fewer loops for iPad than for apple laptops. Is there a library available of apple loops? I haven't been able to find any if there are. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Update: An Apple rep called me today to update the status of my return. I was told that the replacements for the BLACK iPad 2's was still another 3 weeks out (at least) so they offered me a brand new WHITE 16GB iPad 2. I could have that or continue waiting. I opted to go ahead and accept the offer of a new white one. Worst case scenario if I don't like the white one I have buddy that just bought a 16GB black one that he would be willing to swap it.

  • Apple Loops not dropping onto track area

I hope someone can help.  I just upgraded to GB 11 and downloaded over a gig of apple loops. But whenever I drag a loop onto the blank track area it absolutely will not drop and creat the track as it is supposed to.   I can demo all loops, and I can drag one over, but it "sticks" to my cursor and will not drop.
    I have a MB Pro 2.4 GHz with 8GB ram, running OS X 10.6.8
Anybody know a possible solution to my problem?
    Thank you.

Weird. The same thing just started happening to me, but the loop sticks to my cursor and won't drop. I have to force-quit GB for christ sake. As I write this I see the small title of the loop superimposed onto my Safari window. What a weird glitch.

  • My Apple Loops are not selectable. Can anyone help me with this please?

Whenever I open up my Apple Loops on Logic Pro X, they are not selectable.
I have tried reinstalling the program and reinstalling the loops, but that did not work.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

What do you mean.. nothing happened?
Make sure you followed the instructions exactly.....
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
    Click Spotlight.
    Click the Privacy tab.
Drag a folder or an entire volume (your hard drive) to the list.
If prompted for confirmation, click OK.
Remove the item or volume you just added to the list by clicking it and then clicking the minus ("-") button.
    Close Spotlight preferences.
Spotlight will re-index the contents of the folder or volume.

  • Apple loops are not there

Hello , I have garageband 08 ,I hope this wasn't a mistake {as imovie 08 was} there are no apple loops.I ant understand how they did not come with it . Can anyone tell me how to get them ? Thanks, Freezer

OK, and then how do I get them to be loops in garage band? It still says there are no loops installed when I try to open them there.
    First,
    Find your Loops.
    Default is:
    /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/
    They may also be in:
    Users/~/Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/
    or
    /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Apple Loops/.
    Then,
Do a search for this folder: "Apple Loops Index".
There will likely be more than one, although only one folder probably has all your Indexed Loops.
So, when you find the one with the "Search Index..." files, delete them.
Then, open a project in GarageBand, open the Loops Browser, and drag your Loops folder(s) onto the Loops Browser.
Wait for it to index them, and you should be good to go.

  • Hi, I have small problem, for some time in music area I had two folders to use 1. Apple loops for soundtrack pro 2. Final Cut pro sound effects now both are gray and with out content may I know what happend

I just went through this and it appears that my Focusrite Saffire was the culprit. I connected all the outputs on the focusrite according to the way the jacsk on the back were labeled and then set up the multichannel speaker setup to match. Then I went into STP, created a pink noise clip and panned it around, the LFE, center and rears were not in the right place.
I reconnected the hardware to match the 5.1 pan pot in STP then changed the multichannel speaker setup to match. Everything appears to be correct now but I would have loved to have been able to just assigned the output busses to correct outputs in the saffire.
Next step is to pan that pink noise around with my SPL meter to calibrate the room.

  • Why are Vocal Lyric found loops under Sound Effects in Apple Loops

Was About to explore what Vocal lyrics are available in Apple Loops of Logic Pro when I realised that a lot are duplicated in Sound Effects filter as well as Vocals filter.
Also, some vocals Lyrics are only in Sound Effects.
Why aren't Vocal Lyric loops filed only under Vocals?  After all, they are not what I would consider to be Sound Effects.

I think iWeb and iPhoto both use the iTunes Library as their default source for music. You could try going to iTunes, change the iTunes preference to NOT copy files (there's a check box in Preferences->Advanced/General) into the Library, or else have it import the aif files as mp3s (also in Advanced, click the Importing tab), then add the music files to iTunes.

  • What are:  LiveType Media 1 & 2 - And Apple Loops?

    Hello Hello
I just bought and installed the 'FCE HD Version 3.5' Upgrade - looks nice
Apple bundled with it, 'LiveType Media 1 & 2' - And 'Apple Loops'.
Before I install these programs, can you guys give me a brief description of what these programs do you for?
    Why do I ask?
Well, I already have Sound Studio 2.2.4, and iLife 6. I just didn't want to install these new programs until I can find out if they're really worth it?
I guess the 'Apple Loops' will add some addtional sound effects to my Garage Band Sound Effects Library?
    Thank you my friends
    Mike

    Hi Tom
Thanx so much for replying to my questions
Yes I see what happened - I 'UNCHECKED' those applications when I installed FCE HD, because I wanted to ask you guys about it's usefulness first. So I'd have to go back and re-insert the install disc to install them. But that's ok..
Tom - could you please tell me a little more about what 'Sond Track' offers?
I mean, can you do the same things that you can do in Garage Band?
    EQ, Effects, Presets etc... ?
And are there any cool sound effects on that Apple LOOP Disc? Like the ones that Garage Band gives you?
    Thanx Tom
    Mike
