Are application icons embedded objects?

I'm using Access 2010 with an .accdb format file. I tried to add a custom icon as the application icon in options. This works fine on my machine but does not appear to transfer to other machines, i.e., the .accdb when opened on another machine
displays the default Access icon. I had assumed that the icon was embedded once it was set in options. Must the actual icon file be present and accessible at the path specified for it in options for all users? That would seem rather silly.
As per usual with Access 2010 I can't find any good documentation on this.

That icon is indeed not embedded. I always put my application icon in a shared folder on a server...usually the same folder as the back end. I'm talking about a split database with the users having a local front end and linked tables to the back end.
If you haven't got to that step yet make sure you have the icon in the same folder as the database and give the icon's path the full path.

They got pushed to another page of the Home screen. Scroll from left to right to find them. You can then move them to where you want them.

A 2003 iMac cannot support Snow Leopard 10.6; you'd need an Intel processor and that cannot be retrofitted to your Mac. What does "About this Mac" in your Apple menu say for your processor speed? What does it say about how much RAM you have?
If the processor is 1ghz or faster, you can run OS 10.5; otherwise, you are maxed out at 10.4.11.
Also, are you running any commercial ("pay for") anti-virus or security software? They are notorious for slowing most Macs to a fraction of their speed potential.
A too-full hard drive can drag down performance, especially if you don't have a lot of physical RAM installed. If you single-click your hard drive icon and then do command i, you'll see the disk usage. Looks like this:
The value for "Used" should be no more than about 90 percent of "Capacity." In the example image, that drive has about 34 percent of its space used and 66 percent free--more than enough. Please post what you see for your Capacity and Used numbers
There are a few more things we might check but this is a good start.

Application icons have been deleted, but applications are still installed on phone

Hello~
The majority of my application icons have disappeared from my BB's main home screen, and I can't seem to access the applications themselves, even though they are still apparently installed on the phone. I can't dial any number on my home screen, so if I haven't got a number that I need to dial, im either screwed or have to go into messages, write a new message of the number and then say that I want to call it....long!
I turned my phone on silent last night and haven't been able to turn it onto loud as the little volume icon at the top (and from the main screen) has also gone, so I don't know if anyone is calling or not until I check my phone later! My camera doesn't even work when I press the button at the side...it's such a nightmare
The phone froze today while I was at an event so I left it to see what it would do and it remained frozen, so I did a battery pull and it seemed to be fine but then it froze again not long after so I turned it off and turned it back on again and this took me to a white screen, and then a red screen with the vodafone (my network provider) logo in the middle. The phone then turned itself off by itself, so I turned it back on, and again, the red screen. If I want to get my main screen showing properly, I have to hold down the power button until it sayd "phone shutting down, press any key to abort" and I have to press any button, then do this a couple of times and then the phone decides to show me the main screen... I spoke to my network provider and they said I should send it off...I probably will, but want to know if anyone else has had the same or a similar problem?

Cannot start the source application for this object - Embedded PDF in Excel 2007

I am having a real issue which unfortunately is intermittant and I cannot pinpoint what is causing the problem. Basically I am inserting a PDF object into an Excel worksheet and immediately after I insert it, it will open fine. If you click off into another cell and save the sheet, then try to reopen the embedded PDF, you get the error "cannot start the source application for this object".
Any help would be very much appreciated! Has anyone else run into this?

I got that problem with one of my client after updating from Adobe Reader 8.2 to 9.3.1. Excel version was 2002 and not 2007 but this is Adobe problem.
Check that registry key for you Acrobat Document key points to right AcroRead32.exe path at HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{B801CA65-A1FC-11D0-85AD-444553540000}\LocalServer32
of whatever key points to your Acrobat Document.
I used Sysinternals Procmon to monitor registry activity and found a line and opened that registry location and found out Adobe Reader 8.0 path there.

I have seen that Adobe Reader 9.3 doesn't update that registry and leaves Adobe Reader 8.0 values there. Same problem may be in other upgrade scenarios too.
In addition to that my Windows 7 with Office 2007 that has never had anything but Adobe Reader 9.x versions didn't had anything on that registry location and it gave me same "cannot start the source application for this object" error. Putting that path "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" to LocalSever Default value fixed that too. Maybe Adobe should do something with this issue?

Application icon remain in the dock after apps are closed

I have Mac OS 10.8.4. I notice that after I quit apps, their icon seems to stay in the Dock afterwards.
How can I keep the Finder from leaving closed apps icons on the dock?

First of all, note that some applications are not close just by pressing the red button at the top left corner of the application window. If this is the case, press Command and Q keys to close the app, so the application icon should disappear from the Dock.
If this doesn't happen, the app is selected to appear in the Dock, so just drag the application icon off the Dock when it's closed, or right-click it and go to Options, and untick "Keep in Dock" or press "Remove from Dock"

Application Icon are not displayed during Clickonce installation in WPF Application

During Clickonce installation of WPF application, Icon File(ico) is not displayed in the start Menu and installed applications list in control panel..
Default icon only gets displayed.

You also set the ico file as the project icon.
Since that's under the Icon and Manifest I guess you did that.
Also
The main window ought to have it's icon set to thee icon.
The main window is the first window you open - which of course may or may not be called MainWindow.

Embedded objects when converting a word document

Hello ng,
a word document contains other documents as embedded objects shown as a symbol. When converting this document with Acrobat Standard or Professional the symbols are converted as non functional picture. So the embeddes document can't be opened.
So here's my question: Is it possible to convert embedded objects shown as symbol to functional embedded object within PDF?

It cannot be done. For all intents remember that creating the pdf is akin to printing the document out. If you were to print document to your printer, you would not expect to be able to click on the paper to launch the object. Now it is true that one can have things like hyperlinks preserved, but specialized coding was created for this functionality and is not available in all applications nor on all platforms. However, your wish is a reasonable feature request. I suggest you might ask here:

Background:
I wrote a large piece of VBA code in an Excel workbook to help handle a lot of repeating jobs. I found it is painful to maintain and modify the code by using the "pool" VBA Editor. Then, I decided to move those VBA code to C# solutions, which I
suppose I can benefit from the modern editor - Visual Studio.
Problem:
Although I don't know too much about VBA, I know even less about C#. Hence I got some problem when I try to "translate" my VBA code to C#, and here is one of them:
I create a document-level solution for Excel. I need to embed some files (.cab, .exe) into the solution, so when I run a method (e.g. by clicking a button), those files will be copied to the file system, and do some job.
In VBA, I embedded those files in the Excel workbook, then I can copy the embedded objects to the clipboard by using the following VBA code:
Sheet1.OLEObjects("obj_cab").COpy
And then I can paste the object to the file system by using the following VBA code:
CreateObject("Shell.Application").Namespace("C:\Sample\").Self.InvokeVerb "Paste"
In the C# solution, I can use the following equivalent method to copy the embedded object to the clipboard:
Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.OLEObject OLEobj = (Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.OLEObject)sheet1.OLEObjects("obj_cab");
OLEobj.Copy();
Then I stuck here, I don't know how to get this object from clipboard and put it to the file system. The 'CreateObject' method does not exist in C#.
Anyone can help? Either a better way to embed those files or a working way to paste those objects (files) from clipboard to the file system?

It's possible to save the oleobject to the disk. But it's not very simple. Because when you call the Copy method of OLEObject to clipboard, it's actually not the exact the oleobject file itself, it's actually a wrapper of the file, it means that it has different
file headers and some other information from the original oleobject file.
To save oleobject on the disk, you need to analyze the byte array by yourself, this would be a little complicated. You could check the answer in this thread for the code sample:

I have a Word document with embedded objects (other word & pdf files) which are clickable links to these files displayed as icons.
How can I maintain these clickable icons when converting to a pdf.

Have you created the file using the PDF printer or the PDFMaker plugin? You need to use the latter.

Embedded object stripped message

I want to send an html email with an embedded video. I have created a web page on my server with the embedded video object. When i open the webpage in Safari to displays correctly. When I chose email contents of this webpage from Safari it creates an email with the embedded object (video) and the video plays.
When the message is saved (sent or draft) the embedded object is stripped from the message.

How can I send this video so that it plays within the email?

What is it about this embedding code that cause mail to reject or strip it out. When I send other web pages that include embedded video content they are not stripped out so it must be something in the code above that Mail doesn't like.
Anyone have a clue?

Applescript problems with character offsets and embedded objects in Pages

The above discussion is archived, but I've noticed a problem witht he solution it proposes.
Essentially, the problem seems to be that the character offset of a selection becomes either inaccessible or out of sync when embedded objects are present in the file.

I've slightly modified the script fromt he previous thread, so here's my own script:

This script is supposed to select the next paragraph in a document, when given a selection. The intention is to call it recursively to get each paragraph of the document in turn.
At the start of the document, it functions correctly, however when it gets to the embedded pictures, lines and table of contents, things start to break. This wouldn't be so bad, because I could simply ignore paragraphs that contains those embedded objects, but the real problems arise in the normal text below these objects.
If you place the cursor on the 3rd page of that document, in an ordinary paragraph, for example, this script will simply return the same paragraph over and over. The reason for this is that the character offset of the paragraphs is being thrown off, so the if statement gets hit too early. You can also see this if you look at the character offsets of the word "Introduction" in the heading at the top of the 3rd page. You'll notice that the character offset is duplicated for a couple of letters, and is out of sync with the index of the character itself.
What I need is a script that will take a selection (of any type), and simply return the correct index of the paragraph containing it every time. It doesn't seem like a difficult thing to do, and since the paragraphs are accessible by index, they should be able to return their index to the user. I have a feeling Apple need to add this functionality to the Pages Applescript dictionary, and they definitely need to fix the bug where the character offsets go out of sync after embedded objects. These are really quite bad problems.

You cannot do this natively - .NET does not natively support
AX controls.
You can achieve this with CFCOM

Alternatively, it is possible to build your own COM wrapper
using C++ but I
don't know how to achieve this.
