Are applications developed in Apex 3.1 compatible on Apex 4.1.0?

Hi guys,
I've only started working on Oracle Apex since version 4.1 and currently working on an application in DEV (apex 3.1) to be moved to prod (in APEX 4.1).
I got no idea regarding compatibility, whether the whole application wont work or certain documented features doesn't work.
Could any APEX gurus who developed application 3.1 and deployed in 4.1, could you please share your experience if there is anything I should be watching out for?

Hello,
Marc advised you:
>> and I would advice against developing on 3.x and deploying to 4.x.
Just in case you don’t know, Marc is a member of the development team and responsible, among other things, to the Tabular Forms development. This feature was considerably enhanced between 3.x and 4.x. Although, as Marc pointed out, things you develop on 3.x should work well on 4.x, but by developing on 3.x you are missing a lot of great new features that can make your life much easier, and Tabular Form is just one example. You should read the What’s New section of the 4.x documentation to get a clue on what you might be missing by continue developing on 3.x.
Regards,
Arie.

  • Application Developed in Apex 3.2 is not working Apex 4.1

    Hi,
We have few application developed using oracle apex 3.2 and oracle 10g enterprise edition as the database also have a Apache tomcat server configured in the system. These application are running fine have no issue in production instance.
I recently installed Oracle Apex 4.1 and Oracle 10g Express Edition in my local machine to test these application in oracle 4.1. I took the same database dump and installed in the local machine no issues with the database side. I installed the application that are developed in 3.2 and installed in new local instance but this is not working.
It show >>Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
Please suggest me what might be the issue how to trouble shoot this issue.
    Thanks

  • Import an application developed in apex 4.2 to apex 4.1

I imported my application that i've been developing in 4.1 into 4.2 apex.oracle. I didn't realize it's only forward compatible so when I tried to import back to 4.1, i wasn't able to.
Is there any way I can import the app back to apex 4.1?
    help is greatly appreciately.
    jadu

No.. Once you import an application into HIGHER version of APEX, it is modified to that version.. This is a suggestion, but I would advise having some sort of version control in this case, so you can go back to a prior version easily...

Except the commercial application list on the official Oracle APEX web-site, anyone can give more information regarding commercial application developed using Oracle APEX?
One I can find: XPinventory (http://xp4each.wordpress.com).

I'm curious - is there a problem with the 15 commercial applications listed at http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/apex_com_commercial_apps.html? What are you specifically looking for?

    hi jack...
You can use ibm's wsdd(websphere device developer) as plugin to wsad(websphere application developer) for developing web applications which can be run on palm devices. It uses j9(ibm's implemention of jvm).

  • APEX Import Not Compatible

Hello, we are trying to import our test APEX application (Application Express 4.1.1.00.23) into our production environment (Application Express version 4.0.2.00.07). We get the following error when trying to import our application:
    1 error has occurred
NOT COMPATIBLE (Your export may contain calls not supported by your application version.)
Can we import version 4.1.1.00.23 into version 4.0.2.00.07 ???
Is version 4.1.1.00.23 compatible with version 4.0.2.00.07 or do we have other issues.
This is new to me. Any feedback or comments would greatly be appreciated. Thanks for your time.

APEX does not look forward. You will need to upgrade your target environment to be equal to your source environment.

  • Mobile Media Application Development

I have been given 24 hours to conduct some preliminary research on the potential of a company wide mobile wide application development project.
We are looking to synchronise pictures taken on our agents phones with the head office server.
We use a variety of different phones and manufacturers.
Ideally we need one application that we can install which will transfer all images on the phone over WAP to a service we will write.
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to write an application which will sit on any phone and if it is feasible for it to access the file system of the mobile to grab the images?
Any help on this would be appreciated.

    Hi h3gg3m,
It's certainly possible to take photo's from within an application and have them sent to a server. An example of an application that takes the photographs can be found here http://developers.sun.com/techtopics/mobility/midp/articles/picture/index.html and there are numerous other examples of apps that will send data via http to a webserver (I just found this on a quick search http://www.kablog.org/).
As for taking the photos outside of the application (i.e. using the phone's native camera app) and having the application then upload them, this will be device specific as it requires an optional package (JSR75 - PIM and FileConnection) to be present and you've also then got the problem of navigating to wherever the device stores it's photos (if they're available to the app) etc. I'm afraid that I've never used that particular API so I'm not speaking from experience.
In short, the option that would be compatible with the most devices, if it suits your requirements, is to go for an all in one application that takes the photo, stores it, and uploads it via. an http POST to a standard web form. The only potential problem with this solution is that without the optional JSR75 package (access to the native file system), all photos would be stored in Java's record store (RMS) which could be fairly small on some devices (I think the spec says 8k minimum).
    Hope this helps,

  • Is Apex 3.1 compatible with 2.2?

I do not recommend this action, but have to ask the question. Our test database has Apex 3.1. I have developed an application in 3.1, tested it, user tested it, user accepted it and ready to move the application to production. Our dba asks, if necessary, could I make modifications to the application, because the production server has Apex 2.2 and something went wrong with the deployment.
My IT manager asks whether the application is backwards compatible. First, I do not understand why the dba can not upgrade production to match test and staging environments. But, will Apex 3.1 work on Apex 2.2? The application is an email type system. I do not know whether the email configuration is set up on production, but I will assume it is. If it is, will my version 3.1 work on version 2.2?

APEX is upward compatible, meaning that your 2.2 app should work okay in 3.x, now saying that, you probably will not even be able to install your 3.1 app in a 2.2 workspace...
What exactly happened to your 3.x production install?
    Thank you,

  • JSP application developed for PC does not work on IPAQ

    Hi all,
I have developed a database/web application using JSP, Apache Tomcat, MS Access. It works great on Windows PC. Now I want to make sure that it works on PDAs also.
I tried using an IPAQ which runs Win CE 3.0 but I get some errors while interacting with the database.
One of the webpages in the application has a form through which the user can submit a text message and upload a file. Following are the problems that I am facing:
    1. The 'UPLOAD' button through which the user can browse his local hard drive and select a file is invisible if I am browsing with an IPAQ. I am using multipart formdata (MultipartRequest.java provided by Oreilly) for submitting a message and uploading the file. What could be the problem?
    2. If I forget about the attachment file and just try to submit a text message (which works on PCs) , I get the error message: "IOEXception: submitted data is not multipart formdata".
I am very new to PDA application development, and any inputs will be very valuable.
    Thanks in advance.
    m_asu.

I was wondering if anybody can give me some pointers as to how can I make an application developed for PCs work on IPaqs.
    Thanks

  • Rational Application Developer support

I found a workaround for installing NitroX as a plugin for Rational Application Developer 6.
Initially, during the installation I tried to install NitroX as a plugin to WSAD but I received an error message that RAD 6 was not a valid WSAD installation. I then noticed that if I try to install NitroX as an Eclipse plugin to RAD 6, it continued with the install and seems to work fine.
Here are the specific steps that I followed:
    1. Launch the NitroX installer
    2. Choose to install NitroX as a plugin to Eclipse
    3. When prompted for an Eclipse installation, use the eclipse folder inside of Rational Application Developer.
    (ie: C:\Program Files\IBM\Rational\ADTrial\6.0\eclipse)
    4. Launch RAD and open the NitroX web perspective by going to Window | Open Perspective | Other.
    5. Choose the NitroX Web perspective (the Web icon with the "X" through it).
Seems to be working great for editing jsp, struts, and debugging.
Hope you find this useful - Mark

First of all it's java (based on eclipse), secondly - I think Mac OS is based on UNIX so some apps should work, maybe with help of macports or fink - but I can't manage to do so
    Thanks anyway

  • Running an application developed in Oracle Forms and reports

    Hi Folks,
Does anyone know or have an opinion on whether an application developed in Oracle Forms/Reports can run on Oracle Cloud as it is a supported product?
It is also possible to 'mix' adf and forms , but on the cloud.....?
    Thanks
    Alex

    Hi,
Oracle supports three types of cloud deployments
(Private) where by applications runs on premises fully controlled by customers.
(Public) where by applications runs at oracle data centers and managed by dedicated team of experts.
(Hybrid) partial applications runs on premises "Customer Site" and rest on oracle public cloud.
in your scenario of using forms/reports and ADF , i personally recommend to have your private cloud as the forms / reports are the previous generation of oracle development tools , everything in oracle public cloud is now based on Oracle fusions and fusion middle ware where the development tools are Jdeveloper , XML , etc...

Oracle SQL Developer 1.2 – Automatic - is compatible with Oracle 11g?
    Thanks in advance!
    -Babu

So I'm taking it the question is -
Is 1.2 Sql Developer compatible with 11g DB?
The short answer is Yes. We are constantly adding new functionality and better support for the newer Databases. For Example to use the real time Sql monitoring that became available in 11g you will have to be on at least 2.1 Sql Dev. Is there some reason you don't want to upgrade to the latest Sql Dev? If not the current EA version then at least the current production version?

    Hi,
I have a webdynpro java application developed using NWDS 7.01.12 with jdk1.4. This portal application is not working when accessed using IE11 browser. The action on buttons and selection from a drop down list in this application is not responding in IE11. Its working well with mozila fire fox vrs 31. The above mentioned errors are being pointed to sapUrMapi_ie6.js file.
Is there any solution to over come these issues other than setting "user agent string" value in the browser?
Can this be resolved with any changes in the application or is there any SAP provided solution?
Please help me to resolve this issue.
Similar issues are also pointed to popup_ie6.js files at "window.attachEvent("onload",sapPopup_init)" and
    "window.document.attachEvent("onmousemove",resetMouseOver)".
    Thankyou.

    Hi Karthika,
It is mentioned in Ervin's famous doc, that NWDS version must match that of RunTime System.
    NWDI vs. NWDI content
I thought the NWDS must be updated via update sites, but surprisingly I could find the patch in service market place.
I do not know how to get the download link directly for you.
