Are car chargers bad for the iPod battery?

There are a lot of companies that sell iPod chargers that plug into your car's cig lighter to charge the battery. Do car charges mess up the batteries?

I don't know why they would. Many people use them on a daily basis and i haven't heard any complaints.

  • Are these Chargers good for an iPod?

Hey everyone. Listen, today I went in town and had some time to buy some stuff.
Now i needed a charger for my iPod Touch 4G. I didn't buy the one from apple with 30 euro, i just got something else, that should do the same job.
But I'm a bit unsure that it's working well.
On the back if I can read:
    Input: 100-240VAC
              0.3A 50-60HZ
    Output: 5VDC---1A
And the one for the car is like:
    Input: 12-24Vdc
    Output: 5.0Vdc --- 700mA
Now I don't know if this is healthy for the iPod. Is it? o.O
I used the one for the car (and i think the iPod is heating). That doesn't look good...
Is this my imagination? or do these things really hurt the iPod?
One other funny thing that happens. When I used these chargers, for some reason, the Audio disappears. If I open up music and so on, the volume level bar is vanished.... is that normal?
Anyway, the main question is: Are these things safe??? o.O
    Thanks

I use a basic Samsung phone charger for my Ipod Touch. It outputs the same 5.0v --- .7 A.
When it overheats, thats just the battery charging.
I've used the same charger on all my ipods for 3 years now.... and they all have continued to work just fine...
    You can use them safely.
Other then that, I have absolutley no idea why your audio bar may dissapear. It's most likely a powersaving feature... In otherwords, check your settings.
    Hope This Helps

  • Visualizers For The iPod. (Not for iTunes)

We all know the many different visualizers for the iTunes, but are there any visualizers for the iPod itself?
I've got the 5th Gen 30GB Video by the way.
Can you tell me what site I can get them at, if such visualizers exists!
Like how u download mp3 player software for your cell phone, its like that i wanna do with my iPod.
    THANK YOU EVRY1 In advance!!

Well it might not be an issue NOW, but certainly when the battery goes asplode your gonna have to run on over to the apple store(and they tend to be very snobby with unhappy customers) and then when u ask to get it fixed, they'll say fine, we'll have it done by tommroow, and then they'll chuck it in this little basket for the poor guy in the back who is already swamped tp fx it. Then you gona have to run over again and fetch your iPod. And all that just aint neccassary.
And if it's in your car, why in the nine blazing hells would you want visualizers?! You need to be paying attention to the road!
And I would imagine, that using such a featurw ould deplete a battery in a little over 2 hours, because it's like watching a movie accept worse:)

  • Is it bad for my ipod to be always plugged to my bose sound dock?

I have it always plugged, and when I unplug it, it won't turn off and I have to reset it. Is it bad for the battery or for the ipod itself to be always plugged??
    Thanks a lot.

It isn't bad for the battery
since the charging circuit will only charge the
battery if needed and turn off charging when not
needed, so it won't trickle charge the whole time.
My concern would be for the LCD backlight. It is on
all the time? Like any light, they have a limited
number of hours, either getting dimmer with time or
burning out. So you could be putting unnecessary life
time on the backlight. If it is on, can you go into
the settings of the iPod and turn it off? Or like
when syncing the computer, does the backlight stay on
regardless of the LCD backlight setting on the iPod?
    Patrick
    Hi Patrick,
Thanks for your answer. No, the backlight is not on, actually it turns off about two seconds after starting to play music or whatever.
My concern was because when I take the ipod off the speakers, I have to reset it to turn it off, but I guess it's something not bad for the ipod¿?
    Thanks again.

  • Speakers for the iPod running on batt, do they cut battery use in half?

I know that volume has a lot to do with battery drain on a battery radio, and I imagine it is the same with the iPod. How much drain do speakers (the kind specifically made for the iPod) cause? Do they cut the battery useful time down to 2 hours? 1 hour? before needing to be re-charged?
I'm interested, but not if they are a huge drain on battery life. How do they compare with drain caused by ear buds?
Let's say all of this would be at a moderate volume, not loud.
Thanks for any input on this,
    Ken

No one can give you a definite answer on this. Every speaker uses electricity at a different level so the only way to know is to call the manufacturer and test them out yourself. I can say that it will drain a lot of your iPod's batteries if it uses your iPods batteries in the first place. Usually speakers have a power source of its own so you can plug the speaker's adaptor to a outlet on the wall.

  • Is it bad for the battery if i leave my nano 5th on the charger all the time?

Is it bad for the battery if i leave my nano 5th on the charger all the time?

No, it's actually what you're supposed to do. To prolong the battery life, try to keep its level high or full as much as you can.
I don't know for sure, but I think the iPod does not draw current from the charging battery but from the charger itself.

have an ipod and then got the wife an iphone4. all passwords are screwed up. she can not access playstore cuz she doesn't have password. i can not get find any help on how to get or update a password for the ipod. and then get her a separate password for her iphone. we need to save her photos, music, etc to ? icloud and the phone stuff to verizon cloud? so when she gets her new Iphone6 she can have all her "stuff" back on the new phone. hope this makes sense. please offer suggestions here or at [email protected] thanks for your help!

Oh no! I'm sorry to see there's a lot of confusion here and data shared, x-rayDon. We can definitely work to fix. This happens when two devices share the same Apple ID, so she will need to reset hers. She can do so by assessing this link Apple - My Apple ID. You will need to decide who will keep the account if want separate Apple IDs since purchases cannot be shared unless you do Family Sharing.

  • Is continuous charging bad for the battery?

Will it harm or decrease the battery life of my iPod if I leave it on charge continuously? I normally have my iPod connected to my home stereo via a dock. It is convenient to leave the iPod in the dock, which means that it always has power supplied. I think it stops charging when it is fully charged, but will leaving it connected in any way damage the battery? Thank you.

No, this shouldn't harm the battery. You are right, the iPod battery does stop charging when it's full.

  • When will Apple give the Battery Percentage option for the iPod?

When will Apple give the Battery Percentage option for the iPod?

It's hard to tell since Apple has never included it in all generations of the iPod and I assume you mean the iPod Touch.
Apple could place it in the sixth generation iPod Touch but Apple has been pretty tight lipped on the possiblity of one coming. It's been since 2012 when the fifth generation arrived in the fall so the iPod lineup is due for an upgrade. Some reports say it won't come this year and others say different. But with the new iPhone expected to debut with larger screen it is still possible the new iPod will come with a larger screen alongside the new iPhone. It happened back in 2012.
But no one really knows. Until then download an app to measure your battery percentage. I have battery doctor and it's really useful to determine how much battery my iPod has left and it also can clean up your memory and any junk files.

  • How much does it cost to replace a battery for the iPod classic?

How much does it cost to replace a battery for the ipod classic?

Depends on if you have Apple do the job or a third party repair company.  Apple will charge you $59 to swap the battery out.

You may be able to find 3rd party service centers that do it for less.

  • Can i set up an access password for the ipod on my ipad 2?

I purchased an Ipad 2 for my son to use in his therapy for autism. He knows how to use it and knows that we have purchased shows and movies for him to watch in the car. Well now that is all he wants to do. I am wondering if there is a way that I can set up a password to access the ipod. If he cant get into the ipod to see shows and movies he will be fine with just playing the games we have for his therapy. I have looked online and have not had much luck finding an answer to this question. So again can someone please tell me if there is a way to set up an access password for the ipod on the ipad2??????

Have you got Home Sharing set up (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3819) ? i.e. he may be viewing the content from your computer, not on the actual iPad. If that is the case (which would explain to me him being able to access the videos via the iPod app), then the Restrictions settings that I've already mentioned should also work on that 'remote' content.
Edit : your last reply appeared whilst I was typing/checking this. And no, the Videos/iPod apps can't be passcode protected, you will need to go back into Restrictions and remove the restriction, or if the films are only on your computer and not on the iPad itself you could turn off home sharing on the iPad whilst he's playing the games : Settings > iPod and tap on your account id and/or password on the right under Home Sharing and delete it/ them (re-enter them when you want to re-enable it).
